The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“People need to be aware of that. Those heat lamps can be very dangerous. They’re another heat source. Just like any other heat source, you need to keep those away from anything that can burn, especially the blankets and straw that they use in dog houses and things. That’s just not a good option,” Batt. Chief Benny Fulkerson, with the Oklahoma City Fire Department

Quote II

“We now need a full accounting of what happened. Think about seniors who—their lives were in the balance and their families just desperate to get them the help they needed. We need to know exactly what happened here. We need to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.” NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio

Quote III

“Ultimately, we were really informed by Jesus' calling for us to love our neighbors and the most loving thing we could do was to continue to meet virtually.” Clay Scroggins, lead pastor at Buckhead Church in Atlanta

Quote IV

Injustice in the end produces independence. Voltaire

Quote V

We aren’t better because we want to be. Because the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Because all the do gooders in the world whether they’re doing good for others or doing it for themselves are troublemakers. On the basis of ‘kindly let me help you or you’ll drown’, said the Monkey putting the fish safely up a tree. Alan Watts

Quote VI

"We’re not there yet. We wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the milestone along the way. But our job is not done. We’re working as hard as today as we were yesterday, and we’re going to work harder tomorrow," Randy Economy, the senior adviser and official media spokesman for Recall Gavin 2020

As many of you know, I live in the frozen tundra. Some outdoor activities this time of year include, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling. As I am accident prone, here is one winter sport I'll pass on. Circular saw blade bicycling.

Types. Deletes. Types. Deletes. LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an internal investigation after an officer reported that a photo of George Floyd with the words “You take my breath away” in a Valentine-like format was being “passed around” by other officers, Chief Michel Moore said Saturday.

***SNORT*** People Who Moved To Texas From California Finally Feeling At Home Now That Power Is Out

AUSTIN, TX—Thousands of people who escaped the desolate wasteland of California have found new opportunities by moving to Texas. To help them feel right at home, even the weather is extending some Texas hospitality by knocking out power stations-- giving the former Californians a taste of the blackouts they're used to.

"Ah... just like old Gavin Newsom used to do back in Cali," said local resident Alice Muggins while lighting candles around the house. "I just wasn't used to having electrical power all the time and it felt really weird. Now, it feels a little more like home!"

According to sources, former Californians are helping people in their Texas communities who have never experienced something like this before. From how to prepare food without electricity to how to use an emergency generator, the Californian immigrants to Texas have been instrumental in keeping their communities alive in the midst of the outages.

Can't he just go back to Microsoft and produce an inferior product? Bill Gates tells us how he wants us to live. Sorry Bill, I aint eating the shit you want me to.

Microsoft founder Bill Gates is pushing drastic and 'fundamental' changes to the economy in order to immediately halt the release of greenhouse gasses - primarily carbon dioxide - and 'go to zero' in order to save the planet from long-prognosticated (and consistently wrong) environmental disaster.

Changes we'll need to make in order to realize Gates' vision include:

Allocating $35 billion per year on climate and clean energy research.
Electric everything.

Widespread consumption of fake meat, since cows account for '4% of all greenhouse gases.'

Retooling the steel and cement industries, which Gates says account for 16% of all carbon dioxide emissions, to inject up to 30% of captured C02 into concrete, and create a different type of steel.
Widespread adoption of next generation nuclear energy to supplement wind and solar.

And since producing plants to make fake meat emits gases as well, Gates has backed a company which uses fungus to make sausage and yogurt, which the billionaire calls "pretty amazing."

Please do not have a heart attack. At the moment, we are not the burr under Kevin D. Williamson's saddle. Ezra Klein is.

The Golden State is in such deep trouble that even Klein can dimly recognize the crisis. But he can't or won't recognize its causes.

Anewspaper editor once described journalists as people who have the bad taste to learn in public. Ezra Klein, a rhetorician who poses as a policy analyst, is doing some learning in public, and learning the hard way.

But what would we do without him? Who but Ezra Klein could survey the wreck left-wing Democrats have made of California and conclude that the state’s problem is its excessive conservatism?

No mention of Orangeman Bad.

If you were looking for a job in law enforcement, would you apply in Minneapolis?

Minneapolis to spend $6.4M to recruit more police officers

Minneapolis will spend $6.4 million to hire dozens of police officers, even as some City Council members and activist groups are advocating to replace the police department following George Floyd's death

It wasn't all that long ago the politicians of Minneapolis wanted to defund the police.

Dear city council you can not serve two masters. Either you protect your city or you serve the irresponsible and criminal.

Methane gas is a viable product. Why not bacteria from urine?

The world population is estimated to reach 9.5 billion by 2050. Given that most of our current energy is generated from fossil fuels, this creates significant challenges when it comes to providing enough sustainable electricity while mitigating climate change.

One idea that has gained traction over recent years is generating electricity using bacteria in devices called microbial fuel cells (MFCs). These fuel cells rely on the ability of certain naturally occurring microorganisms that have the ability to “breathe” metals, exchanging electrons to create electricity. This process can be fuelled using substances called substrates, which include organic materials found in wastewater.

At the moment microbial fuel cells are able to generate electricity to power small devices such as calculators, small fans, and LEDs – in our lab we powered the lights on a mini Christmas tree using “simulated wastewater.” But if the technology is scaled up, it holds great promise.

Reason Number 217 average Joe hates government and all of those employed by it. ‘If you do not comply with the protocols we can and will have your ABC license revoked.’ As they left, their parting words to us were, “Well, the good news is we don’t have to write you a citation today.'”

A Day In The Life Of A Brewery Being Crushed By LA’s Ever-Shifting COVID Rules
The county even regulates what meets the standard of a 'bonafide meal' each group of customers is required to buy if they would like to order beer. All this, we're told, fights COVID.

Bart Avery started Bravery Brewing Company just 10 years ago, in 2011. Today, his son does the brewing, and it’s a full-on family business. You can find their beers in restaurants, liquor stores, gas stations, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes in the surrounding area, but the main profits come from happy customers enjoying beer on tap in the tasting room. And that’s where the problems start.

With even New York City beginning in-house dining, Los Angeles County remains one of the few hold-outs to demand people sit outside. In sunny downtown Los Angeles, this is often a more bearable burden, but in the high desert to the north of the country, winter temperatures routinely hover around 10 degrees colder, and that’s before the winds come in.

An interesting read by a "Progressive Parent" on getting kids back to school.

If parents or anyone else could fill in so easily, why should we pay teachers more? Why should we value them as professionals? Real valuing of your profession means admitting remote learning is a poor substitute for face-to-face, interpersonal contact and that parents can’t do teachers’ jobs, and trying to get back to that as soon as possible.

Just another reason to break the Teacher Unions, ala former WI Governor Scott Walker.

I enjoy to cook. I enjoy CBD's Sunday "Food Thread". I also get regular emailings from Epicurious. They are becoming more and more unbearable. Not only are the recipes getting downright snooty and snobbish, they are becoming totally SJW.

This is how insane leftist culture is becoming in the US: Bon Appetit magazine and the recipe website Epicurious, which share the same parent company, are editing recipes in their archives to make them politically correct.

Politically correct recipes. You read that right. HuffPost wrote about the Archive Repair Project. Excerpts:

Politically correct recipes. You read that right. HuffPost wrote about the Archive Repair Project. Excerpts:

The bulk of Epicurious site traffic goes to the archive, mostly recipes but also articles and other editorial work, Tamarkin and Chopra said.

“Being such an old site, we’re full of a lot of ideas about American cooking that really go through a white lens,” Tamarkin said. “We know that American cooking is Mexican American cooking and Indian American cooking and Nigerian American cooking, that that’s the kind of cooking that’s really happening in this country every day.”

One of the first issues “repaired,” he said, was use of the word “exotic.”

“I can’t think of any situation where that word would be appropriate, and yet it’s all over the site,” Tamarkin said. “That’s painful for me and I’m sure others.”

“Painful”? This guy David Tamarkin finds the word “exotic” when used in a recipe to be hurtful? If I were so thin-skinned, I would be embarrassed to tell people about it. This is total neuroticism, but its progressive, so it’s ballyhooed.

Boner-licious!!!

The Lincoln Project donation page is down amid multiple scandals and alleged misappropriation of funds.

The donation page on the Lincoln Project website has listed as inactive since Saturday after a number of its founders resigned amid reports of sexual misconduct and misappropriation of funds.

The anti-Trump PAC consisted of a group of Republican strategists working to unseat former President Donald Trump, after criticizing him in media appearances throughout his term.

I guess the US Navy is not expected to kill people and break things.

As a key member of Task Force One Navy I will invest the time, attention and empathy required to analyze and evaluate Navywide issues related to racism, sexism, ableism and other structural and interpersonal biases.

I pledge to be actively inclusive in the public and private spheres where I live and work, and proactively encourage others to do the same.

I pledge to advocate for and acknowledge all lived experiences and intersectional identities of every Sailor in the Navy.

I pledge to engage in ongoing self-reflection, education and knowledge sharing to better myself and my communities.

I pledge to be an example in establishing healthy, inclusive and team-oriented environments.

I pledge to constructively share all experiences and information gained from activities above to inform the development of Navywide reforms.

The navy talks like fags and their shit is retarded.

Anger is a luxury most of us can't afford unless you are a Genius Award Winner, 1st Runner-Up.

A man has been charged in Chicago, Illinois after video showed him poking and shoving a gym staffer over mask policy. He is Anthony Myers, 30, police said in a statement obtained by Law&Crime.

“If you had just kept your fucking mouth shut, and not played games, I’d be working out and you’d be minding your own business, but you want to be a big guy, and you want to play games,” said the defendant in video posted to Facebook. He had a mask strapped to his ears, but it was resting below his chin while other people in the footage had their masks on.

Helping the less fortunate without all of the virtue signaling. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

This Restaurant in Denham Springs Has A Wall With Prepaid Meal Tickets For The Hungry

Papis Fajita Factory in Denham Springs, Louisiana, has a wall with prepaid tickets for people that are hungry but can't afford to buy food.

The person in need can simply grab a ticket with a meal they would like, which has already been paid for by a previous customer.

According to customers, the restaurant owners have been doing this for many years.

Above the free meal tickets is an excerpt from the book of Matthew.

"'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

17 Willowed, but I'm so super pissed off about this that I'm reposting.

Alright, dammit. Delivery has become completely insane. Virtually anyone you call these days has "delivery" listed on their Google business. But they don't really mean it. Most places have shifted over to the "UberEats/GrubHub/Postmates" model. That is far from the "delivery" I consider to be actual delivery.

For one thing, cash is not an option, and I like cash. For another, these services, knowing they have America over a barrel in this Great Enstupiding caused by the Big Bad Sniffles, have jacked up their rates to a truly ludicrous degree. I can count on a delivery from one of these companies costing nearly as much, if not more, than the meal itself.

Gone are the times, not so long ago, when even in my hillbilly bumpkin hometown, I could just *call* a guy at some building where they cook food, and he'd put the food in another guy's car, and that guy would drive it to myself in exchange for a nice tip. That's gone.

It's just "fill down a g-ddamn credit application and pay us $25, and maybe, just maybe, we'll bring you a box of lo mein, you fucking peasant. If you're lucky."

49 I hate that woke Navy pledge, but many such turds have come down the pipe over the years and sailors have always scoffed at them.

The only pledge that matters is the oath that states "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed."

91 I dont care how Gates chooses to spend his own money but just once I'd like them to explain how CO2 traps heat when it can only absorb shortwave radiation in a very narrow band and is already at near saturation. It's right in all the IPCC reports where all the projections are based on a doubling of concentration.

Sorry to violate the no math clause but in order for a linear increase of 1 degree Celsius in temperature the CO2 would need to double from 400 ppm to 800 ppm. Every single bullshit model requires some mythical forcing that never shows up in real data.

It would also be helpful if they could explain how ignoring 20k weather stations that stopped providing data across the former Soviet union may have impacted their global averages which are completely meaningless.

We had a terrible one about 10 years ago. More than two inches of solid ice. The electrical mast was pulled all the way off the house 3 stories) from huge pine branches falling, and the power line was buried under 2 inches of ice in the back yard.

93 If Gates want to fund the first three years at $35b a pop, he'll still be a decibillionaire. But maybe then I'd listen and consider helping with the next tranche. A drop in a lake, but still. Likely best case is that he's merely virtue signalling, but we can't rule out megalomania and that he gets off on sticking it to the average human.

It's a couple years old, but finished off Nicolas Nassim Taleb's "Antifragile" and while a significant percentage of the text went over my head, the concept of skin in the game needs to be applied much more broadly, as opposed to technocrat diktat.

The prevailing emote in those in America who voted for Biden is: "Yeah, some people may have fucked a few children, but what's a little child-diddling among friends? It's not like they voted for TRUMP or something."

The media, the corporate boardrooms, and all the social climbers will furiously protect their tribe as long as they prevent Orangemanbad from "getting a win." Even if it means having their own children raped and/or murdered. How does one get past all that brainwashing? The mind boggles.

290 I hope whatever remains of the Stinkin Project are genuinely horrified at what is happening to them.

I hope they are surprised and confused at how they could ever be betrayed like this. After all their hard work, it's all falling apart. And so suddenly! What about the book deals? What about all the promises? You said we'd be protected if we played along! You said we'd be rich and happy! We still hate Orange Man! Isn't that good enough? Orange Man Bad!!!! Insurrection! Crazy people!!! Violent!!! It was good enough for you last month!!!! We were loyal!!!! Don't leave us like this!!!

I give no fucks about these people - and yet the very thought envelops me like a warm set of alpaca pajamas (or how I imagine they would be, to a woman, not me, shut up).

309 287 In its infinite wisdom the WA state legislature is considering a billionaire tax. 1% after the first billion on all assets. That will cost Bezos $2 billion per year. Gates, 1.35 billion per year. Balmer $750,000,000. and Bezos ex wife, $600,000.000. per year.
Sure, they aren't going to relocate their primary residence somewhere else. Nah... They love it here.
I think being brain dead is a requirement to be in the legislature.
Posted by: Winston, GOPe, not one dime, not one vote at February 15, 2021 11:18 PM (z985I)

The billionaires, all 4 of them, just have to reside somewhere else for 183 days a year, and the tax is moot.

The Olympia Democrat majorities are also restricting horrible Black semi-auto Rifles to 10 round magazines, restricting where you can carry (even with a CCW) and going to tax all drivers 2.4 cents a mile for every car, truck, and bus.
Except, there are exemptions for the poor, and public transportation buses. Because, "fairness".

314 Thank you for noting the anniversary of Mike Bloomfield's death. How sad, how terribly sad. As I type this, I'm listening to Bloomfield's solo on "You Can't Lose What You Never Had" from the album "Fathers and Sons" - the Chess Records classic that had the then-young bluesmen Bloomfield and Paul Butterfield (and "Duck" Dunn on bass) playing with the classic bluesmen Muddy Waters, Otis Span, and Sam Lay. They target this, but what about the other 96% of greenhouse gases? As for Agriculture, the site says sources of gases come from "livestock..., agricultural soils, and rice production". Rice production makes greenhouse gases (methane)! https://tinyurl.com/4q4pcjsq

Hi Winston. With Demo control, the problem is they can screw with funding counties that don't cow down like a beaten slave.
I've already been emailing my state legislators about the gun grabbing. waguns.org is the local group that has some people who are organizing the campaign to fight back. Under the 2A section (members only, free to sign up) there are daily updates, which legislators are on the committees, and email and phone contacts.
Also there are some people there who have laid out easy talking points that anyone can cut and paste. Good points with some respectful email goes a long way.

Anyone in WA should go to waguns.org and send a couple of emails, if they value their gun rights.

This guy has a small following, lots of people that have had it rough in life, drugs, divorce, homelessness, etc. and for a few years in an old building, just broke even at best, paying utilities and overhead. Maybe 250 - 300 before, now nearing 900 who Zoom in, IIRC he mentioned once.
But now there is money coming in, and he has been able to fund some efforts to help people out. Basic stuff, food, job training, clothing for young kids, etc.
But it has grown because of his messaging that focuses on understanding Jesus teachings to figure out how to help yourself, no matter how messed up your life has been in the past. Now with the donations, he can fund a few things to help some people.
He's a good dude.

There are a couple of "find a Mass" sites for Catholic shut-ins that have a lot of traffic. I "attended" my Tennessean friend's church one Sunday; another weekend, I watched both my home parish and a little church in Louisiana with a young priest who gave a great homily on grace.

408 My main concern with online church is that many small congregations don't have anyone tech savvy in the congregation.

I fear these churches fall away, which leads to a consolidation of the church body.

As we have seen with tech and corporations, narrowing the channels of conversation and commerce rarely works well.

I also worry about what happens when Zoom decides that the reprobate mind is 'hate speech' and decides to deplatform churches that dare discuss homosexuality or abortion.

So I asked them a question: What do you think of a bunch of guys who dress up in Nazi uniforms, and Nazi flags, and march right through a small city in the midwest that is majority Jewish? Do you think it should be allowed?
One of them was so unnerved, the look on his face was horrid, like "how dare you say something so evil?", and the other guy said, "that could never happen in America, old man." yes, I was called an old man.

That is a lie that teachers tell themselves to elevate their self-concept beyond their worth. In truth, parents can do teachers' jobs, and in many instances, they are better situated to give them a superior education, for less.

In the case of my parents, they taught me to read before schools deigned that it was time to do so. They did this with my older sis, who in turn helped my middle sis, so when it was my turn, I had four people working on my ability to read.
Are teachers important? Sure, but they aren't everything. What elementary school did George Washington go to? What HS did TJ graduate from?

Blizzards on the road, white out conditions really suck. It's even more fun at night, when the flakes run sideways and/or start making optical illusions as if your car or truck isn't moving. Then the realization "I can't go any farther, but if I stop, someone will plow into me."

Always get off the highways before it gets bad.

Lucky! In the western quadrant, we only going to 15. But that's a sight better than yesterday's one. And the sun will be good to see.

With the new dry snowfall and direct north winds last night, we have four foot high drifts over parts of the driveway again.

Hubby is using another precious vacation day to deal with the drifts. We're supposed to get propane this week, and the truck couldn't get in as is.

We didn't get too much snow, but we got it ALL from ten miles upfield to the north. Blew til it hit our hovel, then landed in the drive.

Once the sun melts the top layer and contains the stuff, the drifting will end.

600 I missed my chance to shout into the wind yesterday. Maybe they have even got me. For years, I have posted my reminder that the holiday is not President's Day. The Federal Holiday is Washington's Birthday. I know most here know that, but someone out there doesn't

My state celebrates George Washington Day. At least half the states don't celebrate "President's Day". And some big ones like MA, IL,MI, NY, VA, CA, etc make a point of not celebrating President's Day.

I have my own theories as to why everyone thinks it is called President's Day. It starts with diminishing G. Washington and ends with people learning history from mattress commercials. Still pissed that Texas has a President's Day. My guess is they wanted to include LBJ when he was the only one. They should have stomped the breaks on LBJ and acknowledged Ike imo.

I don't think you have to look any farther than the FBI and state and local law enforcement for the answer.

Add to that how it wouldn't be "local" folks at the business end, just strangers who are domestic terrorists. Add to THAT how you'd only need three to six drone operators to pull the trigger, and those victories would be used to boost morale and reinforce "other ism"

The first thing I did when I bought my house was install a generator inlet and a back feed breaker and interlock.

Total cost was less than 500 dollars via an electrician.

Literally worth every penny.

I've lived a life of dashed hopes and dreams so I'm pretty sure to within a high degree of certainty that a new party to take on the GOP will not arise.

So when I say, a new party needs to arise to take out the GOP, it's to be understood as ironic in nature.

Texas has more large blue cities than any other state. Sure it is still a Red State, but beneath the surface, there are some very troubling things going on. I used to brag that that Texas had some of the largest cities in the country. Last I checked, 5 of the top 13 are in Texas. All are deep blue and that is the problem.

President Biden has expressed a preference for a fire built in the Oval Office fireplace, and sometimes adds a log himself to keep it going.

Unlike his recent predecessors, he's more of an early-to-bed type. Here's how Biden is settling into his new job.

Over the years, I've gotten different generators but you can pick a 10-12kw generator up for anywhere from 1000 to 2500.

Current generator is a dual fuel 12kw.

I mainly run it on gasoline.

And I have to use it several times a year as I live in a heavily forested area and storms like Sandy have taken power out for days at a time.

No power since 6:00 yesterday evening. We have two generators running so we have a little heat and can string up a few more things.

Definitely getting a transfer switch so we can hook the big one up to the breaker box and have the well and septic running.

Never depend on anyone for anything.
