The Morning Report - 2/11/21 [J.J. Sefton]

trelaynepros.jpg

Good morning, kids. Thursday and in thinking over the absolutely disgusting nature over the debate about Mark Cuban being forced by the NBA to play the National Anthem at games, and the reaction of junta mouthpiece Jen "Piss-Hockey" Psaki siding with Cuban because, essentially, the nation formerly known as the United States of America is - or was before it was finally overthrown last month - irredeemably flawed, maybe it's better not having "The Star Spangled Banner" played in public anymore. Think about it; the official policy of the alleged (nudge-nudge wink-wink) 'president' is to smear the nation of which he now leads; that is to say, rules.

That said, assuming anyone with half a brain is even watching an NBA game, it's better not to give a bunch of sub-literate multi-millionaire thug pituitary cases a forum to defecate on a symbol of what we cherish and paid for so dearly while demanding our respect. Not so long ago, professional athletes were once admired for their athletic abilities and achievements and as role models. Professional sports were also an escape as well as an opportunity to come together and share a common cultural bond that transcended our differences. All of that, now, is part of a vanished world. So let the PA systems in the arenas and stadia remain silent. The tin ears and thick skulls of these goon-stooge useful idiots who do nothing but shoot, throw, hit or otherwise place whatever object into whatever receptacle while blood-libeling the birthright that gave them their opportunity in the first place are unworthy of the words and music of Francis Scott Key. Put the staves away for safekeeping along with the flag of a now deceased nation.

While that little drama played out, the debasing and defiling of the rule of law continued in the Senate with the Soviet show trial of President-in-Exile Donald Trump. The highlight, or lowlight was a ruckus between Jamie Raskin and Mike Lee.

Lee was clearly of the belief that that characterization of events and of comments -- as attributed to him in particular -- was inaccurate. As the Senate moved to wrap up business on the impeachment trial for the day, Lee sought to have those Cicilline comments stricken from the record...

...This led to a remarkable moment where Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT), the president pro tempore of the U.S. Senate who is also presiding over the impeachment trial of Trump since Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts declined to preside, given that Trump is no longer in office, made an unclear ruling apparently rejecting Lee's motion. Lee then appealed his ruling and sought a vote in the Senate to override Leahy, and after several confusing moments the Senate began voting on Lee's objection to Leahy's unclear ruling. After a couple senators' names were called when the clerk began calling the roll of Senators to vote on Lee's objection, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke up and intervened to stop the vote. Schumer used a tactic called noting the absence of a quorum -- essentially pausing the Senate's formal business as televised for the nation while senators and staff handle a dispute or negotiation off camera -- to "work this out."

Moments later, they came back into action and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD -- the House Democrats' lead impeachment manager -- admitted that Cicilline's characterization of Lee as it related to the Trump-Tuberville phone call, while based on news reports, was inaccurate, and then he withdrew the matter from the record himself without a Senate vote...

...These fireworks on the Senate floor closed out the first full day of opening arguments in the impeachment trial of Trump in the Senate, the second such trial Trump has faced. He was acquitted last year in his first impeachment trial. While this mistake by House impeachment managers is unlikely to change any votes in either direction -- it is pretty widely known Trump seems headed for another acquittal -- this drew the attention away from the core facts of the case being offered by the managers and onto personal drama in the U.S. Senate, a clear boon to Trump's legal case.

It draws attention to the fact that Leahy, not Roberts, is presiding over the trial while also serving as a juror -- and a witness, since he is a senator and was there on Jan. 6 -- meaning that a Democrat senator and political opponent of the accused, Trump, is serving as judge, jury, and witness in a trial.

Amazing. They can't even conduct a high-tech lynching without stepping on a rake. I'd laugh my ass off were it not for the weeping and rending of garments. I have no love lost for Mike Lee because of his record on a number of issues, specifically immigration and his general Trump aversion over the past four years. But what the Democrats are doing here is beyond the pale. Meh, what have they got to lose? They stole the 2020 election, are doing everything they can to keep in place the apparatus to steal every other election going forward and are now engaged, with the eager assistance of large swathes of the financial, information technology and business sectors, in structurally dismantling a free market based economy and open society, with the concomitant freedoms and individual rights of the citizens, and erecting in its place a monolithic, corporate/fascistic command and control state in its place.

Whatever the outcome of this garbage (and a conviction is highly unlikely), PIEOTUS Trump is at least going to be seen as a victim and, if they continue with the persecutions and smearing of not just him but of ordinary citizens who support him and in point of fact support the notion of America as founded, they will have created a martyr and energized a movement. The 75 million who voted for him and perhaps double that number who either support him or are scared shitless of what's happened to the country are going to be a force to be reckoned with. One way or another.

76 Glad to see JJS recognizing Gina Carano. Lots here may not follow her fight, or care about a Hollywood actress, but (as Breitbart said) "politics is downstream from culture", so her fight is an important one. Not forgetting also that very few people here have been faced with surrendering their livelihoods, like she was, and she bravely told the bastards LOLGF.

I salute Gina Carano. Hot, tough as nails, and unwilling to let the shitheels tell her how to live. I hope she made plenty on Mandalorian and can survive in style.

81 And "trans" women are biological men, Jen, no matter how much make-up or pretty dresses they wear. They're biological men, and they're competing in women's sports, and that's not fair to women. In fact, you might even say that it is an obvious violation of women's human rights.

Unless you're saying that biological women aren't human? Is that the official position of the fraudulent Biden faux-admistration now, Jen?

Posted by: TrivialPursuer at February 11, 2021 07:48 AM (k4dH2)

Back when sports were well run, which was a long time ago, commissioners like Pete Rozelle did their best to weave sports into the fabric of the country. I knew it was a good marketing ploy but it still bugged me because I figured they'd eventually bend cities over to build stadiums for them, which they did. Then they started playing games overseas which none of the fans wanted and it gave ex jock announcers an extra opportunity to look like retards with that ignorant "across the pond" stupid phrase with a fake brit accent. I think the Texas teams play a game in Mexico for REASONS because I stopped paying attention by then. Anyway playing the anthem for that unAmerican clown show has been a big mistake and an insult to the country.

All Progressives seem to believe they are without sin, and therefore, have the right - nay, the duty - to cast the first stone.

When Jen Piss-hockey says the US has failed to live up to its ideals, it really pisses me off. Name one country, one PERSON, who has ever lived up to its/his/her ideals. The US is never given credit by Progressives for its progress and status on a huge range of human rights, and its desire and work to do still better. No, the US must be executed, then resurrected so it can totally live up to the Progressive ideals (of this micro-second). Progressives love to talk about human rights, but they never think or talk about humans, unless it serves their lust for power and control: George Floyd, tragedy; shot-dead children in South Chicago, merely a cost of doing Democrat Machine business.

111 The anthem mess with Mark Cuban and Jen Psaki is merely a microcosm. It is indicative of the underlying problem. The state does not wish to defend its symbols. Indeed, the state is actively conspiring to destroy its symbols. It isn't just the Cuban anthem kerfuffle, it is also things like the statue desecration and removal and various other elements.

If the state is actively colluding with groups to destroy its own symbols, then those activities have only one meaning: they are no longer state symbols. So what does that mean in turn? Sadly, this is very simple. It means that the state as it exists now is not the state that created or protected those symbols in the first place.

These conflicts over the past few years are clear evidence that, despite the commonality of things like names and terms, the current state is *not* the United States that anyone here recognizes. It is itself now the tool of usurpers. No state actively aids the destruction of its symbols. If it does, then those things are no longer its symbols. If that is the case, it is no longer the same state, names notwithstanding.

Then he came out as a Trumpist, and his stock rose with me. Wins yet another SB with a different team, stock still going up. Then, the other day, he strode through that airport maskless like a goddam boss and his stock rose even higher.

In just a month we've gone from being respected, perhaps even begrudgingly to becoming a worrisome global spectacle teetering on the edge of irrelevance as a nation. Our citizens had largely restored a sense of pride in America and we're fighting their way back from a global takeover by nations like China. Democrats, led by China Joe and his sellout spawn Have now set us back on the path of being owned by China, bowing to their demands and under the thumb of the US collaborators and Chinaphiles. What a disgusting and distressing turn of events.

BREAKING: Georgia Sen. Warnock Under Investigation For Voter Registration Misconduct

Forbes:

The Georgia State Election Board voted unanimously Wednesday to move forward with an investigation of U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) for his role serving as board chairman of a voter registration organization founded by Stacey Abrams that election officials say failed to follow deadlines, in what appears to be the latest legal step in the ongoing feud between the progressive Abrams and the state's Republican election officials.

Eventually, as the rings piled up, I had to come around and admit the guy was a stone-cold winner, and even if I didn't like him, I had to respect him.

Then he came out as a Trumpist, and his stock rose with me. Wins yet another SB with a different team, stock still going up. Then, the other day, he strode through that airport maskless like a goddam boss and his stock rose even higher.

And then came the boat-to-boat Lombardi Trophy-toss to Gronk and that does it. I am officially a Tom Brady fan for life now. Still feels weird to say it though

281 More from the AP article about the Lincoln Project:

Since its creation, the Lincoln Project has raised $90 million. But only about a third of the money, roughly $27 million, directly paid for advertisements that aired on broadcast and cable, or appeared online, during the 2020 campaign, according to an analysis of campaign finance disclosures and data from the ad tracking firm Kantar/CMAG.

That leaves tens of millions of dollars that went toward expenses like production costs, overhead -- and exorbitant consulting fees collected by members of the group.

315 The train debate also misses something else. Europeans in cities live in apartments close to the city center. They can get to the city center via public transportation easily. Train station are in the city center. So for Euro city dwellers it is easier to get to a train station than it is to get to the airport which is way out in the boonies.

Here it is the reverse. Most people live in the burbs and to get downtown is a PIA. If the train station is downtown it is hard to get to va getting to the airport. Add to that parking issues, ie no parking at a downtown train station.

Interesting tidbit- in the state of WA, the libs still have fevered wet dreams about light rail and connecting olympia to everett. It's hard to do because of the geography and the fact that BNSF owns the main rail lines along the puget sound. They commissioned a study and our genius senator patty murray wanted the train from Tacoma to seattle. it was gonna cost something on the order of a billion dollars a mile of track. Of course, astronomical. she thought it was just fine. voters said no. We ended up with Sound Transit- which was a forced "yes" and it still doesn't meet their end states for optimum use.

The Chinese movie industry makes movies for Chinese audiences with shared cultural touchstones and values. It's not Hollywood making movies in America with hopes of throwing in some crumbs to make the CCP happy.

Hollywood's going to be relying more and more on American audiences to float their expensive productions, but just as their executives have become extremely comfortable with doing whatever their Chinese paymasters want.

Those in charge will manage the decline of Hollywood as they produce stuff to make the CCP happy but has no appeal to its actual audience.

Trains only really are popular on short routes that have high speed like Paris to Lyon or Madrid to Barcelona. But anything more than a few hundred miles is a flight.

And despite what most leftists think not every rail line in Europe is 200 MPH billet trains. The vast majority of trains are still the slow type.

Lizzy- yep, familiar with the OBOR initiative. But hadn't considered your point. Be interesting now to look at future contracts at the city, county and state level that you can trace back to CHICOM companies and holdings that will get business here in the US. Of course, that would probably require some kind of oversight from State, Commerce, or DHS. And my guess is, with the husk occupying the White House, those agencies will be told to "stand down!" and not do their due diligence in stopping future construction deals or will simply not enforce anti-CHICOM policy.

When I lived in CA for about 2 years I had a 200 mile round trip commute; from Monterey to Menlo Park. CalTrain went as far south as Gilroy. I could drive up there, then take the train to Menlo Park and walk the 2.5 miles to my office.

Or simply drive the whole way in the comfort of my own vehicle and arrive/leave when I wanted.

I think it was convenient, but the thought of being chained to a particular schedule and not being able to freely move about once at work was not what I wanted.

396 Gina Carono was quite right comparing the present persecution of conservatives (in Hollywood, she was specifying, but it's spread out to the wider world) to how the Nazis trained their people to persecute Jews. She wasn't referring to the Holocaust; she was alluding to the 1933 Nuremburg Laws, which started to strip Jews of legal protection and rights.

It's bad when a lady martial arts practitioner knows more history than 90% of the population. We used to study History to LEARN from it, right? To see what went wrong in early ages, and try to avoid going down the same path? Now the History of Europe in the 1930s is like the Ark of the Covenant: don't look at it! Don't touch it! Don't do anything or you'll be struck dead on the spot! Just saying the word "Jew" or "Nazi" has some magic power that strikes madness into the hearers.

The Chinese state-owned company offered transit officials a bargain, but time has proven that it came at a big cost.

The Boston Globe reported over the weekend on the mounting issues facing the new line of Red and Orange Line subway cars being built by Chinese-state owned company CRRC for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

The MBTA announced earlier this month that the delivery of the 400+ rail cars for the two lines would be a year late, with the last set of trains now set to be delivered in late 2024. The Globe's investigation highlights a myriad of reasons why, from missing supplies and parts sent to the wrong worksite to installation and vehicle testing delays to unfinished cars stalling on the assembly line. . .

"Poorly written novel" is a stupid take on the Bible, whether you're a believer or not. Even if you take it as pure allegory, it is brilliant and it describes the human condition at a very fundamental level. Jordan Peterson has something like a 14 hour lecture series on it, as a psychological allegory. It's brilliant if not theological.

412 190 Cpt. Hate,
Cruz's problem is excess ambition which leads him to indefensible positions.
The two Senate examples of prior impeachment trials after the person left office are not applicable to the current situation. In the Blount case, he was already expelled as a senator in accordance with the Constitution so the subsequent impeachment trial was simply to bar him from running again. Even the Senate decided this was a bad idea and acquitted Blount.
The second was during the Grant administration and dealt with a Sec. of War, Belknap, who resigned a few minutes before the House impeached. The House decided to go ahead and impeach anyway, then the Senate had a brief trial. Belknap was acquitted as well, in part, because Senators believed that the impeachment was moot (as did the former Senator heading Belknap's impeachment representation).
There is serious doubt as well whether former officeholder can be barred from seeking elective office. Seth Tillman and Josh Blackman, due in part to prior research on emoluments cases, have concluded that impeachment penalties only apply to federal appointive offices, not elective ones.

419 354 Fenelon,
You cannot reason someone out of a position they hold based on emotions. I'm sure in your job that you have seen people target others for anger because they resolutely refuse to examine their own lives and mistakes.

I think that is what is happening here: e.g. Good people cannot be Trumpists by definition therefore I can say or do anything to bad people regardless of the facts.

Any attempt by you to address factual issues will simply be dismissed as you are a Trumpist and therefore a bad person. Anything you say would be disqualified as coming from an impure source.

420 Thanks; It's hard to know where to begin. Even from a non religious perspective, even many Atheist scholars think Christ existed and as for "poorly written "novel" they used to have classes in college of the Bible as literature. You didn't have to be a religious person to appreciate that t has has some of the most beautiful poetic language ever written.

History for Atheists is a pretty good blog which debunks the "Christ as Myth" narrative. The writer is an atheist, but does a fairly good job defending Christianity against stupid atheist attacks. He'd rather have a discussion based on historical accuracy and not on whatever tropes are popular on Slashdot today.

422 I just finished re-reading "The Periodic Table" by Primo Levi, a Jewish Chemist who survived Auschwitz. It has profiles and scenes from his life as Italy sunk into Fascism, then into Nazi control, and then into the camps.
The othering of Jews became so intense and personal (and it started with denying them access to jobs) that the Germans used the ashes of dead Jews on winter roads. In their contempt and hatred, the German used the prayer shawls taken from captured Jews and turned them into underwear for the Jews in camps.
I used to wonder how such unreasoning and virulent hatred could exist in individuals, let alone in a society. I don't wonder anymore.

FWIW (not much) Francis Scott Key set new lyrics to an existing song called, "The Anacreontic Song," AKA "To Anacreon in Heaven," which came from an eighteenth century men's drinking club in London.
