I was just thinkin'... EABOD (bag) has become a popular expression. 'Specially 'round these parts lately.

I'm from the midwest and nothing about the term ever made sense. It's the mid period stop. Not the midwest unless your a writer for the New Yorker where the middle is western New York. And it is composed of many different cultures, climates, geography. I'm from Kansas which is mid-mid. We'd call this guy and his accent a northerner.

The surgery went well, but recovery is going to take some time. He is staying with his daughter for the time being. He managed to walk a mile yesterday, which sounds promising.

We were gifted a 2.5 ft deep plastic circle pool thing this summer. I got to make use of gorilla glue, except in strip form. It worked very well for repairing the holes the kids would make.

Did you ever attend the pro-fan comic book trivia games at conventions? Back when I still went to the San Diego con, I used to enjoy the hell out of them. Len Wein was not the most nerdy of the pros (probably Mark Waid or Kurt Busiek) but he did pretty well--except for questions about comics he wrote.

As late as the '80s at least there was a local (I assume) soda company in CT called the Pop Shop or possibly Pop Shoppe. But soda was definitely the preferred nomenclature. (I grew up in Hartford county, FWIW) Bubble water is presumably seltzer?

That's because it's "coke". A soda fountain, is where you get "coke" with ice cream mixed into it. Pop, is just sick and wrong.
This is why lunch is the noon meal, and dinner is the big meal. If you have dinner at mid-day, then the following lighter meal, is "supper".

Whereabouts? I grew up in Hartford but family moved to West Hartford just before I went off to college in MA. Still have family in Connecticut.
And,yes, seltzer iis bubble water but I would also put Club Soda, and unsweetened flavored carbonated water in that category. Never liked sweetened soda like Coke and especially dislike artificially sweetened stuff.

There's never a bad time for Blazing Saddles. I'd do it before bedtime, but for some reason the F'IN NEW RECEIVER IN THE BEDROOM keeps shutting down all the HDMI inputs every time it's fired up, the only way you can get anything to work is to restart everything (Xfinity box, Chromecast, Fire stick) at the same time then whichever input was last selected will work on startup. Serious debugging required, beyond my mental scope tonight.

The reason is because it is usually/always/characteristically weak, and as every schoolboy knows, weak coffee is basically a sin against nature. I don't ordinarily eat at places like McDs anymore, but when I order coffee on the road there is a reason. Meaning I need the caffeine.
When they had "cheap" coffee, it was strong enough to drive straight across Montana west to east.

Again, for a few cents more per large unit of beans, MCD can brew a coffee that does not have to be kept at a very high temperature. The problem is that only MCD can avoid the problem because -- you can't fix stupid.

I'm on the fence. I like the new party option, but that's a tough road with centuries of failure as evidence against. Trying to overthrow the GOP establishment with Trump-style supporters also seems like an impossible task. I kinda hope the Senate convicts Trump, the party goes crazy trying to purge holes supporters, and it pisses Trump off enough to fully engage in a third party. It may not work, but it'll be a wild ride.
That, or we fall apart as a nation, Yugoslavia 2.0 style. Working in the Balkans, I'd like to avoid that option, too, as the results are suboptimal.

Yeah, Charlie Sykes and some of his guests on the Bulwark podcast were discussing this idea, too. They've been all over the place on how to handle the GOP in a post-Trump era. At first, they sounded defeated, and wanted to help Dems (respectable, centrist, return to normalcy dems like Biden) crush the GOP and return order. Then, they talked purging Trump supporters from the party and reclaiming it. Now, there's bubbling talk of a third party. I don't think that will go anywhere, as they don't actually have any voter support (unlike a Trump third party would).

bottom line: the first morning, someone poured out the coffee i had carefully made, as no one had told young aspiring lifer that we were going to have coffee ready for them. (i had used the LAST of the coffee they had to brew that too!) much unhappiness occurred that morning.
i was bulletproof, because my officer stood by me, and said he had watched me carefully make the pot that was thrown away.
the next two nights saw me making a pot of rocket fuel.
the third night we were informed that they would be making their own coffee from now on, because what i made was too strong for everyone involved, starting with Col Muy Importante, who was an insecure little prick, even before he got his star.

Buy bean coffee and roast your own. Any variety practically at random, will blow away the canned crap. It isn't expensive and won't cause you gastro-intestinal discomfort. I roast in a frying pan or on a cookie sheet in the oven.
I use the TLAR method of coffee brewing. "That looks about right". Pour over does make a good cup but most people want to get more "mileage" out of the grounds. Hobos used to call the first run battery acid, and would boil coffee grounds pretty much indefinitely. Then they donated it to Church basements everywhere, apparently.

They had a few good hit recently. Picked up a modest 10# of both Panama geisha variety and of a five year old Sumatra, before that they had available of a rare harvest from Yemen and I picked up 20# of that.
Of these three, the taste difference is noticeable to everyone except those who destroy their coffee with cream and sugar.
The aged Sumatra has the strangest smell in roasting, brewing and consuming.

You should be able to get a $5 air popcorn popper down at Salvation Army that will work as well as commercial roasters on your average bean.
You can take it a few seconds after first crack and make the best coffee yet.
For those with stomachs that argue with the roast, choose something NOT from high altitude, as those tend to be "brighter" (ie 'acidic').
Sweet Marias has a spider chart that will give clues to what beans are bright.

One thing, they aren't designed for it. They don't *quite* get hot enough either, which isba tease, and the machine will likely soon burn up anyway and self destruct. And they only make a half cup at a time.
I roast a pound or more at a time. Trust me, I tried all the different methods. The fancy electronic bespoke units are junk. "Pour 1/3rd cup of beans into roaster..."
Who wants to roast twice a day?? The machine was like $200 bucks and soon died. Digital LED display - electronic controls + heat = expensive paperwieight. Better off with a Black and Decker heat gun.
Like I said, way too much wankery in the coffee world.

It's supposed to be great when people are talking about your ad.
However, when the only thing they're saying about it is that your company sucks and your product sucks and your insulting sucky commercial has convinced them that they'll never, ever buy your sucky product, it may be time to pull the thing.
But at least the ad company got paid, right?

Yep, I know they would. It just really pisses me off that they think nothing about saying shit like this to reporters. The people forming what is supposed to be the American government don't even pretend to give a damn about Americans or our interests.
