Lee Smith: The "Former CIA Officer" Who Called for Americans to be Treated Like Foreign Terrorists Is... Affiliated With the Lincoln Project, aka The National Man-Boy Lincoln Association
This was that vicious article that ran in the corporate neoliberal Washington Examiner, a nasty piece-of-shit trash sheet funded by neoliberal corporate supremacist billionaire Phil Anschutz, who previously funded the Weekly Standard, and currently funds Seth Mandel's Peephole Closet.
Weird that editor Philip Klein forgot to tell us that the "former CIA officer" they were publishing just happened to be an associate of the partisan smear organization/gay teen dating app Lincoln Project. Whoops! Whoopsie!
The campaign to define supporters of opposition leader Donald Trump as "domestic terrorists" took a new turn this week when a center-right publication argued that American citizens should be treated like the Islamic extremists responsible for the 2001 World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks. "We defeated al Qaeda and can do the same to the fascist thugs who attacked our democracy last month," former CIA officer Kevin Carroll wrote in the Washington Examiner. "But only if we take similar hard measures against the enemy within." The Jan. 6 protest, which saw sporadic violence, has been used by left-wing media organizations, segments of the national security establishment, and other Democratic Party institutions as a pretext to send federal law enforcement after the more than 74 million Americans who did not vote for Joe Biden. The ghoulish campaign is nakedly partisan, or the same institutions would have pushed to define as domestic terror groups the Black Lives Matter and Antifa networks responsible for the spring and summer’s nationwide George Floyd riots that led to hundreds of felonies, including arson, theft, assault, and murder. But those two organizations are aligned with parts of the Democratic Party. BLM, according to its own website, is a Democratic Party fundraising mechanism. That's where the Washington Examiner comes in: By reinforcing from the right the false narrative about the events of Jan. 6, the conservative publication legitimized the Democratic Party's campaign to use law enforcement to target the right. Carroll is a former CIA officer and affiliated with the Lincoln Project, the anti-Trump organization whose co-founder reportedly attempted to groom underage boys for sex. Among other methods that might be used to break Americans, Carroll recommends: bringing "the heaviest felony charges possible on as many participants" in the Jan. 6 protests; using internet chatrooms to entrap American citizens; and compelling fire and police departments to require loyalty oaths of their employees. "We ruthlessly hunted down foreign terrorists after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks," argues Carroll, "and must do the same to their domestic equivalents." Emails to the Examiner's top editors and spokesman requesting comment regarding the ethics and probity of publishing an article arguing that Americans should be treated like foreign terrorists responsible for nearly 3,000 deaths in one day went unanswered. Requests for comment from the Examiner’s owner Phillip Anschutz were also not answered by press time. It should come as little surprise that the U.S. national security establishment wants to refit the counterterrorism industry to go after Americans.Read the whole thing. Smith gets into the implications of what, exactly, fighting 75 (or more!) million American citizens "as if they're Al Qaeda" will entail. By the way: When the government begins abducting and assassinating American citizens with drones, will it be okay to oppose the government then? Or will it still be "extremist"? The NeverTrump Rockefeller "Republicans" are now straight up saying: Let us run the party again or we will eagerly join with the left to demand the government literally KILL you. Isn't it wonderful we're purging the party of the "authoritarian," "fascism-friendly" elements? And just keeping the corporate supremacists and uniparty rentboys who agitate for the government to imprison and assassinate their political enemies? I have to admit, ashamedly, that while I bought it the first week out, I soon forgot about it and haven't read it yet. But it's got five stars.

Its a mistake to think of them as businesses that put out comic books. They aren't. That's kind of their side gig, they do that as a consequence of their real job. Their real job is to come up with IP for the film studios to use to make money with. At its absolute best, Marvel pulled in a couple hundred million a year in the early 90s. That's peak Comic Book business.
Every movie MCU puts out lately makes a billion dollars. One movie.
Obviously Time/Warner doesn't want DC to lose money, but they really don't need the piddly pocket change that comic books produce. Disney doesn't want Marvel to lose money, but the amount they pull in on a good year is what Disney finds in the couch cushions.
They're about making movies now, so how well the comics do or how stupid the characters are is irrelevant. Their job is to create characters and stories that the studios can make films out of.

There's no reason why the military would somehow magically be different than the world it pulls from. I would guess that on average the people who sign up deliberately for military service are a different cross section from the general public, or at least a certain culture of the public.
But the idea that all serving military are gung ho patriots and America-loving Trump voters is mistaken, for sure.

My Dad got me interested and turned me on to a B-lister named Iron Man. In the late 80's I built up quite a collection of Silver Age Iron Man and the various different comics he appeared in. I liked him. He was just smart. That was his entire schtick. If a baddy got the better of him and beat the crap out of him, he'd go to the drawing board and make a new, better suit. It kind of reinforced my idea of America in a way. You could beat him, but he was never defeated.
I did not like the Robert Downey JR version when the movies came out. As Marvel movies got bigger and bigger, I sometimes wondered how much my little old collection would be worth (especially around the time just before Endgame.) Never even seriously looked into it, because the whole idea seemed... wrong. Like I would be selling a cherished memory of childhood.

In total, yes. But..they are allegedly better organized, have radios, have a chain of command, and logistics.

We are many, but difuse. We are not organized, do not have secure coms, and no logistics, save whatever individuals had squirreled away in their houses.
We also have no heavy weapons, we do not have crew served automatic weapons, artillery or air power.
