The Morning Report - 1/29/21 [J.J. Sefton]

lurchleft.jpg

Good morning, kids. Friday and the weekend is here, for whatever temporary respite from this nightmare will bring us. While the big story is the little guys breaking the rigged casino in the GameStop/Robinhood saga, there are other things going on of equal importance that are probably not going to be getting the attention they deserve. Beyond the schadenfreude of watching actual vulture capitalists get taken down as well as the rage-inducing actions of the junta and its cronies rushing in to illegally shut down thousands of ordinary folks to protect the racket while at the same time threatening to go after those same ordinary folks for merely beating the house by playing the game by its own rules (sound familiar?), there are these items that came over the transom within the past 12 hours as I was aggregating the links:

Democrat Lawmakers Introduce Bill for Nationwide Mail-in Voting: Necessary to "Make Real Progress"

The bill, introduced by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), is designed to "fight voter suppression" as detailed by Wyden's press release. The measure would "massively expand vote-at-home ballot access, provide voters with pre-paid ballot envelopes and enact automatic voter registration"...

...The lawmakers point to the unprecedented number of Americans who voted by mail in the 2020 presidential election -- a move Democrats vehemently pushed. While progressives largely used the coronavirus pandemic as justification for opening the doors for mass mail-in voting, which many critics warn leads to mass fraud, universal vote-by-mail has existed as a primary goal for the Democrat Party, even prior to the pandemic. The measure introduced on Thursday essentially updates the vote-by-mail measure the two lawmakers introduced in 2017, long before the Wuhan virus struck.

Abrupt changes in state election laws, coupled with existing concerns of fraud and irregularities, led to a heated post-election battle, which essentially ended January 6 after Congress certified the electoral votes despite challenges from GOP lawmakers and ongoing concerns from millions of Americans who continue to question the integrity of the election.

Number two on the hit parade:

Senate Judiciary Chairman Says Gun Control Is "Top Priority"

After winning control of the committee chairmanship on Wednesday, Durbin said he had met with a group of activists and promised to prioritize action on guns.

"Today I had the chance to speak with a group of gun violence prevention advocates from across the country," Durbin tweeted. "I told them that reducing gun violence will be a top priority of the Senate Judiciary Committee. And I will never stop fighting for gun safety."

Democrats enjoy a slim majority in the Senate with Vice President Kamala Harris able to cast tie-breaking votes, a partisan split that makes sweeping, new gun-control legislation difficult to pass. Durbin's control of the Judiciary Committee, however, will allow him to shape America's legal landscape. His ability to shepherd President Joe Biden's judicial nominees to federal courts could play a decisive role in numerous gun-rights cases. The committee also oversees federal law that regulates firearms, including the federal gun background check system.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa), the committee's top Republican, said he hopes Durbin will pursue similar gun initiatives to the past Congress instead of attempting to push through sweeping liberal changes.

"Unduly abridging or regulating those rights, especially if it's through a strictly partisan process, is wrong," Grassley told the Washington Free Beacon. "I hope, if Senator Durbin chooses to focus on this issue, it will be with a bipartisan, consensus-building approach."

Yes, once again, if we're going to disarm private citizens let's make sure we preserve a fig leaf of an illusion of a fairy tale that it's completely kosher. Chuck Grassley is a fossil and a fraud. Then again, it's not as if regular order means anything anymore. And with the courts about to be packed so tight Roman Polanski will wrestle Biden to see who can marry it, at least 100 million people now labeled as insurrectionist will be reclassified as armed terrorists. As an aside, Malig-Nancy Pelosi bitching about Rep. Lauren Boebert carrying in the halls of Congress is quite rich considering she (Pelosi) was supposedly fearing for her life because of the "rioters."

Finally, John Kerry, a man who made his fortune the old fashioned way, by shacking up with wealthy broads impressed with his phony Crackerjack box medals, farted out this little gem:

Climate Czar John Kerry Says Tens of Thousands of Jobs Will Be Cut for Zero Benefit

"He [Biden] knows [the] Paris [Accord target] alone is not enough. Not when almost 90 percent of all of the planet's emissions, global emissions come from outside of U.S. borders. We could go to zero tomorrow and the problem isn't solved."

Beyond the obvious problems of using low-density energy sources like wind and solar to power high-density living in urban and suburban areas, the assertions the administration is making about workforce opportunities and even U.S. manufacturing are absurd. We are going to kill millions of jobs for absolutely nothing. Canceling the Keystone XL project was a gift to Vladimir Putin and his petrol economy, just as no new leases on federal land will be. Pushing a rapid transition to green will be a boon for the Chinese Communist Party while they continue to pollute at alarming rates and lie about it.

Welcome back to leading from behind, only worse. Climate Czar John Kerry, who has gotten almost nothing right in his entire career, will drag the economy down with him this time. After all, not everyone can marry a ketchup heiress.

Add these items to the elimination of our borders and amnesty for upwards of 30 million illegal aliens already here, the move to once again prop up the mad Muslim mullahs in Iran and let them build an A-bomb - which will touch off a war in the Gulf, the aiding and abetting of the Chi-Coms to seize global economic and geo-political domination, and the ramping up of political persecution and repression here in the former United States of America and we are looking at a situation, folks.

The reality is, even if we had a political party to try and fight this - which we do not - there is nothing they can do to prevent or even slow down any of this. The Grassley attitude of "if I'm going to get gang-raped by AIDS-infected chimpanzees, at least they better take me to dinner first" is fully on display. If anyone thinks that 2022 and 2024 are going to make any difference whatsoever, they're delusional. I guess it comes full circle back to l'affaire GameStop. While the system may very well have always been rigged, Donald J. Trump came along in 2016 and in essence "beat the house." And for four years, he singlehandedly exposed those who are back in power now as the frauds, poseurs and incompetents that they were, just by enacting policies that made Americans more prosperous, more secure and more free than at any time since the end of the Second World War -- which not coincidentally was when the malignant cancer of Globalism first metastasized.

So, what can we do? For starters, I would say while you still have the opportunity arm yourself to the teeth. Start developing and strengthening social ties with family and friends who you know have the same political bent and can be trusted, and figure out how to communicate in a way that is as private as you can make it. It would be nice if red states went the full on nullification route, if not secession. The states where Keystone XL runs should tell Biden to go fuck himself and build the damn pipeline anyway.

Try and stay positive; seek out G-d or find some sort of way towards inner peace and calm (stay away from AOSHQ, right?). I think for the first time, thanks to the actions of this illegal, criminal junta, a very large swathe of the citizenry are going to face a situation where, stripped of an income and perhaps facing serious economic hardship will collectively have nothing to lose. I hope and pray that it never comes to this, but to not see the signposts that this is indeed the direction we are headed is to be blind.

Those in power right now are not only playing with matches, but they're doing so inside of a gasoline refinery. Pun intended.

I kinda get that, but if you had told me six months ago that reasonably intelligent fund managers would refuse to take a loss on one short sale until they lost billions, I wouldn't have believed you. They will not stop. Finding more ways to hurt their trades theoretically (because they won't listen) says that the retail investors with a plan will not stop either.

I saw a FaceBoot meme recently - "At a certain age, a life sentence doesn't seem so threatening."

Elections have consequences, yes. Stolen elections could have even more dangerous consequences. I hope there's no Tim McV out there, but I'm pretty certain there might be.

Which is one gigantic reason the Dems should get on board with REAL election integrity. States with predominate (R) legislatures should 'carve out' the electoral votes of the huge cities that decided the outcome of this election. Sure, give them 2 or 3 EV's - but not 16, 18, or 20.

It was said here yesterday that the Bidumb "commission" on remaking the SCOTUS and federal court system was just to mollify the crazies. I vehemently disagree. They are removing every last protection that the Constitution still provides Americans, so that all of their radical agenda can get enacted and there won't be a damned thing, short of war, we can do to stop it. Citation needed, Dick. Please point to one example of gun control legislation and enforcement tracking with a reduction in "gun violence." Once you've done that, show me the statistical analysis that implies causation. After that's done, do it 11 more times. If you can't come up with a dozen examples in the vast corpus of federal firearms law, you're a fraud and this has nothing to do with "violence" and everything to do with your own tyrannical aspirations.

I'll wait. I suspect I'll wait until long after you and I are both dead.

I do not share your optimism, JJ. They will use UBI to plug the gaps and allow the population to drift away into oblivion. It's part and parcel with the rest of their strategy. Use abortion, destruction of family law and family normality, indoctrinate kids to drive misery and subsequent suicide, destroy working people to drive misery and subsequent suicide, throw welfare pittances around to breed dependence, misery and conformity - in other words, transform human beings into merely humans existing.

Let interrupted reproduction and increased suicide solve over a couple of generations what they've identified as the real problem: people in general. This is all the same underlying strategy and goal to kill off a lot or most people. Everything they do is anti-human. That's why they'll do UBI next.

_____________

The big attraction of mail-in voting for Dims is that it makes it so very easy to cheat.

Jimmy Carter's commission on voting, years ago, noted that mail-in voting is the type of voting most susceptible to fraud.

Several European nations have banned mail-in voting because it is so susceptible to fraud.

Yet the Dims in this country can't get enough of mail-in voting.

Not surprising, since they just used mail-in voting fraud to steal a presidential election.

If they had even a modicum of humility or introspection, then yes - you would be right. But they don't. They are all-in on "this time, it will be different." They are smarter, more capable, more ideologically competent, have better data, have better systems and are, of course, purer than anyone who came before them. Their towering arrogance and depths-plumbing evil are astonishing. I think they think they will "make it work" this time and win.

Once the electric cars become mandatory with self driving for our "safety" they will be able to control where the car goes.

==================

I imagine you're not alone in considering that action. Lots of reasons to think it wise. Main point to consider is what is your LONG TERM strategy. I'm in a similar time-phase as you -- 15-20 years until I expect to retire and start using funds from my retirement plan (401K equivalent). I fully expect ups and downs -- including some extremes in both directions. As of now, I think there are enough "safe" options as far as interfund transfers in my plan. Hopefully you have some too.

Just use extreme caution when pondering a bold move like liquidating your account and taking a hit. Yes, things look dire right now. But thus far, "the market" doesn't appear to care.

Final point -- Can you be sure you know how to identify what "things of actual value" are good LONG TERM investments?

Sucks that we have gotten to the point where you/we have to consider doing what you are considering.

A thousand times this. The only goal is tracking and eliminating locomotive privacy. There is a much simpler way to handle a mileage tax if they want to do one and voters approve it. It's so easy even a caveman can do it: just fucking subtract. There's an odometer on every car in the country. Y - X == miles driven during the interval.

Why pick a complicated and expensive approach over a simple and cheap approach? It's the same answer as always: there's a different goal, and they're trying to get away with something.

In CO, they floated the idea of a mileage tax (complete with always-on GPS tracking!) a few years ago because of declining gas tax revenues due to hybrids and E85 (which is taxed at a different rate, apparently). Someone made the mistake of asking, "if this is such a problem, then just change the fee schedule to register a hybrid or flex fuel vehicle to make those registrations more expensive to offset the drop in gas tax revenue."

The committee was horrified at the suggestion, because it would "punish people who do the right thing" and disincentivize the purchase of alternative-fuel vehicles.

Your betters, everyone. Your. Betters.

223 The mileage tax is simply a way for them to put in vehicle tracking devices on each car. They know where you are going, where you've been.

That, and its a way to tax the EVs and alternate fuel vehicles.

You thought you could escape by not paying the fuel excise tax?

I don't know how they expect this to work. LOTS of cars and motorcycles out there. Going to be expensive, there will be a massive play for the obvious rent seeking in providing the licensed and approved plug-in mileage monitors, and it will force local police to be the enforcement of this stupidity.

Due to working remote and the CoViD stimulus to have home deliveries of practically everything, I racked up fewer than 1000 miles in 2020 - most of that in Q1.

One is land enough to support one's self and family plus the skills to effectively use it to support one's diet year around.

Second, you need to be able to provide yourself light and heat absent central power. Passive solar heating devices, high insulation, fireplaces or stoves, solar cells and wind generators, and inverters and tri fuel generators might be a good start. Start small.

Third, learn how to fix and repair what you have, gas motors, etc.

Fourth, you need a store of value--booze, silver, food, medicines, gold, ammunition, etc. Tips from other countries going through burning times indicate that coins that are worthless collector wise are actually a good store of gold or silver value. The bullion and new collector types might get you robbed or get your hoard confiscated. Old worn coins, are less obvious that you have a stash.

Fifth, get physical books, etc. that explain how to do stuff and if you have children, basic educational books for home schooling and deprogramming.

I defer to much smarter Morons here than I, but my thoughts wonder...yes, failure for them became reality because of a variety of factors. How big a part did it play that places like America, the free superpower, still existed and could lend credence to those repressed people? When the world becomes enveloped in tyrannical rule (and the world is well on its way, by appearances), who will be there if America is no more? Just tossing around some thoughts. It'll fix a whole lot of employment, that's for sure. Raising the minimum wage above its natural level is a sure-fire way to get unemployment. Synthetically boosting wages at the same time that you synthetically cheapen capital is a double-whammy. These people *really* hate wage earners earning under about $75k per year.

If they really wanted more employment, they'd raise interest rates up to something approaching the natural level. But nope, can't have that.

292 Very few if any new cars have a throttle cable.

All of that stuff exists as a workaround for previous government meddling. Meeting EPA/California emission standards on an all-mechanical car gets you the gutless wonders of the late 70s, vs today where 300 HP is fairly common because of fast ECUs and associated equipment. Toyota and Mazda both passed the 40% thermal efficiency mark in the last decade, which was considered impossible for a long time.

So of course the government's going to use a bunch of technologies invented to work around their previous meddling as the enabler for future meddling.

Gun control measures, beyond symbolic nothings, are the least likely legislation to pass because there are at least two Democratic senators who would sign their own death warrants if they signed onto it.

The real action will be with these measures to promote voter fraud via illegal immigration and nationally mandated mail-in ballots. The latter is strictly unconstitutional, which means nothing now.

It is a lot worse than that. Gasoline engines came about because up until the ICE, Rockefeller and other oil producers considered gasoline as a waste product.

The point being, is that if a large segment of petroleum production is made obsolete, then the recovery costs become much higher for other oil based products.

Take a look at a list of products that require oil. Obviously plastics, but also medicine, fertilizer and a myriad of other things.

336 277 Doof,
Not hard to do right now if you start small. Start with two weeks worth of emergency food and water and gradually extend to three weeks, then four, etc.

Buy an inverter generator--if you have a car, you will then have some power to run a few items in an emergency. These are pretty cheap. A small 3-4 kw generator is also useful and less than a stimulus check as backup. Some cheap foldable solar cells for charging electronic devices are also useful.

Get a water bob and remember that if you have a tanked water heater, it too is a source for clean water. You can also buy a couple of rain barrels for storing water coming off the roof through the gutters. With a reverse osmosis water pump with a filter, it can even supply drinking water in a pinch.

There are books on gardening by the square inch. Replace your grass or scenic plants with plants you can eat and learn how to raise stuff at the same time. Start with with a couple of plants per season.

The key is self education and buying bit by bit to increase your insulation from society.

None of those wars 'moved' the American people nor changed society much, they were more like wars to keep the generals and the military industrial complex in grift. Roman emperors did the same back in the day--let the generals do small wars for their fun and profit.

A war with Russia or China (perhaps even a large scale war in the Middle East) is a different matter altogether. The Romanovs paid with their lives for going along with a stupid war over Serbia.

The whole narrative of Scripture, and thus the Gospel, is based on the fact that no one can obey the law perfectly.

The great Dutch Tulip craze. This time it's personal.

In some sense, yes, but I believe the price had been over 400 during the trading day before the brokerages halted buying and started selling shares without authorization. The run back up to 338 reflects the continued buying pressure that the brokerages were no longer stopping since it was coming from overseas.

Yeah, it's funny isn't it? The hedge funds that have failed or may fail are just object lessons in the old adage that "pigs get fed, but hogs get slaughtered." No one put a gun to their heads to make them short more than 100% of available shares. They were reckless and stupid and they got broken. The problem isn't even that they got broken, by the way. That happens semi-frequently and hedge funds destroy or cripple each other for sport. The problem is that they got turfed by the rubes. That is unacceptable.

yes ... but imo, (even though I constantly call it a coup, and now a junta) .. it was not really a coup against Trump, because they held the real power the whole time. They got rid of Gorka, Bannon, Lewandoski early on ... and the Mueller machine had the knee on the throat of Trump from the start. ---Yes Trump accomplished some things, but the Swamp/Cartel never really relinquished control, as we saw when they decided to just up front steal the landslide victory from Trump, and hand it to their leftist puppets. @politico

In the midst of his 2020 campaign, Joe Biden took his younger brother, Frank, aside to issue a warning.

"For Christ's sake, watch yourself," Biden said of his brother's potential business dealings, according to a person with knowledge of the conversation

Biden, according to the person, seemed to know then what is becoming plainly obvious now: His family's business ties threatened to undermine an administration whose messaging is centered on restoring integrity in the White House

Relatives' money-making ventures, most prominently his son Hunter's overseas dealings, have long dogged Biden. But it's taking on a new dimension now that he's in the White House.

He already has had to answer for matters related to his family.

That is because there was still a residual amount of trust in the system. Ultimately, it won't end well and repression in a coup usually results in losing even more population support.

People will tolerate a repressive regime if life is getting materially better (China). Even more toleration exists if the regime is genuinely democratic and shares the pain equally (think England during WWII). Repression and open naked high level corruption in high places with the population getting poorer by the minute, these are the things that revolutions are made of.

425 423 It occurred to me that Obama at least understood the importance of appearing moderate and a more go-slow approach to fundamentally transforming the US and not rile up the natives too much. No so with Biden. He may not be a far left radical at heart but he is barely cognizant of what is going on around him and has no sense of how much his radical puppeteers are tearing up the country. They don't give a damn either and only care about implementing their leftist utopia as fast as possible, especially now they don't have to worry about elections.

Amazon didn't kill Gamestop. Gamestop killed Gamestop. They were the K-Mart, Sears, Toys-R-Us, etc. of the video game market.

WAY overpriced, and offering very little incentive to shop there. Their one "hook" was buying and selling used games, but they'd give you a couple of bucks for a massively popular title and then turn around and try to sell it for 3% less than the same thing new.

They were going under regardless.

He's never had to answer for one fucking thing during his long career of graft and corruption. Even that worthless clown, Chris Wallace, kept Drumpf from pointing that out in the fake debate. The only time he'll answer for his corruption is when his puppet masters have decided he's of no further use, which should be fairly soon.

A. Why is this just now being reported, instead of before the election?

2. Biden has been in DC for 47 years, and during all that time as Senator, as VP for 8 years, he never felt compelled to tell his brother to "watch himself" before fall of 2020? Are we really supposed to consider Biden concerned about appearances of corruption, or somehow prescent that after 47 years maybe -- just maybe -- this gives the impression he and his family are corrupt AF???

502 478 illiniwek,
There is a difference what people express on polls and what they actually do. Often a very substantial difference. In real life, people undermine all authority--think of teenagers and parents if you will. We have cultivated an elite of know nothings that think because they are elites--that they are smarter than the general populace. The rectification will not be pleasant but Karens and their behavior won't survive it. In East Germany, roughly 10 percent of the population were informers and the regime fell in months after the Soviet troops were pulled out.

514 most of those short selling losses are (imo) due to the fed gorilla throwing its weight (trillions in QE) to prop up zombie companies. The legit use of shorting is squashed. It is the Greenspan Put writ large. Markets must be propped up (even as private small business must be squashed with shut down).

The GME thing sounds like it is finally the small guy winning (maybe it is) ... BUT the fed is propping up failures ... zombies get their bonds bought, to "save the markets". imo that breaks before DOW 50k, but the real pro shorters are staying away, for the most part ... because of the fed gorilla.

That point varies quite a bit depending on plant species, but about at 150 ppm CO2 plant growth is reduced from "normal". Interestingly, we were at around 180 ppm about 200 years ago and now were at around 414 ppm. So, its not hard to imagine that plant growth may have been limited for a while.

People with actual greenhouses boost the CO2 to around 700-1500 ppm to stimulate plant growth and production. They use natural gas or propane burners or chemical reactions. This makes the greenhouse warmer more than the sunlight through the glass effect.

Diversification. I wouldn't put a fortune in crypto. But I am thinking about spreading a couple of hundred bucks on some small coin just to see what happens over time.

I think the trend will be for the younger folks to distrust regular money. Demographically, there will be pressure for crypto to increase in value - until the government steps in to make it illegal.
