The only places I’m aware of that magical “networking” makes that much difference is that you are on the Yale rowing/golf team and friends with Chad Moneybags who can put in a good word with his dad who is on the board at FuckYou, FuckYou, and PayMe on Wall/K Street so you can get that sweet six figure right out of school venture capital/think tank job. For the vast vast majority of the rest of us who aren’t anywhere near those social circles (and who don’t want to be!) the “prestige” of the place you got your degree from only matters when applying to your first job because the rest of your resume is garbage, and from that point on literally nobody gives a shit, and they’re going to judge you on the quality of your actual work.

Doctors in Japan say a man’s accidental ingestion of a toothpick left him dealing with months of pain in his back and leg—all caused by said toothpick getting stuck in his rectum. Once the toothpick was removed, the man’s troubles fortunately went away. The strange medical tale was detailed this week in BMJ Case Reports. According to the report, the 67-year-old man first reached out for help when he had been experiencing two months of pain along his right buttock and thigh. MRI scans suggested that the source of this pain was stenosis around the lower back, a condition where the spaces within our spine begin to narrow—this narrowing can then pinch the surrounding nerves, leading to painful or numbing sensations. Though stenosis can be managed conservatively with drugs and physical therapy, the doctors opted for surgery to treat it.
When they performed a CT scan on the man just before the operation, though, they found a surprise in his rectum: a 7-centimeter-long rod eventually determined to be a toothpick that the man had accidentally swallowed. Six days after the find, the man’s pain in his right leg quickly got worse, prompting doctors to remove the toothpick from its hiding place as soon as possible. Thankfully, after they did, his pain went away and hasn’t come back since, all but confirming the toothpick as the real cause of his symptoms.

I do think mushrooms have potential in this regard, but if you have underlying mental disorders anxiety, even a low dose of a mild hallucinogen can make them worse in the short term. Or, it can help. It's down to the person. I've only occasionally seen people go sideways on mushrooms, but it can happen.
One thing I can say is that less-than-intelligent people seem to be more prone to a bad reaction. Not an insult, just an observation, and smart people can react poorly too. But, slower people can get really scared by the experience.
In any event, if I were a doctor, I would not clinically recommend it. Maybe off the books, for an individual I knew well, under my very unofficial supervision, at least the first couple times. Again, low-dose. Maybe 1.25g of decent ones.

I rebuilt the whole place after 2008's Hurricane Ike. Engineered hardwood, tile, trim and more. Much more. It's not that I've not done it before, as much as it is I really didn't want to do it again. Alas, between an HVAC leak that rotted out some of it, and then the failure of it's factory gloss finish, it all has to come up. No choice. At least insurance paid off due to the water damage. But oh, my already aching knees and back, and I haven't even started yet.

I've never done that but I'm so paranoid about how strong weed is now. People tell me it's way stronger than when I was young and you'd take a hit at a party. My friends that smoke weed always tell me it will help my back problems. There is no way I'd smoke any or eat edibles.

My wife no longer does, but has worked as a therapist at a residential facility and a post-residential sort of halfway house. Many schizophrenics have severe drug and alcohol problems. It's impossible to say which came first, or whether they have some other cause. Think about the homeless guy down on the corner panhandling who has voices talking to him all day, and when he's done for the day he goes and buys a case of beer and bag of Cheetos. They have a whole crapload of other health problems too. It is often literally one day at a time, in some cases one hour at a time. The best they can do is try to teach behavior modification, because all the drug/alcohol/mental illness/health issues are so intertwined.

Back in the old days, I actually did the Rim to Rim to Rim hike once. (3 days, right at 50 miles) Beautiful hike, no way my knees would let me even attempt anything like that now. Being in the Canyon is one of the only places I know where you feel like you're in a completely different world when you're inside it, a world completely separate from this one. It's a wonderful place.

My nightly toddle is a bit of Tom Sims 4 Year Aged Straight Kentucky Bourbon. Very much in the Jim Beam flavor profile, but easily twice as smooth. And Jim Beam is always OK. Spending a bit more Weller 11 is a fine Bourbon, but a bit spendy for a nightly libation. Largely, I've found the "Super Premium" bourbons to be, frankly, just not worth THAT much of an extra cost.

It certainly wasn't a good idea for me. Four stints at mental hospitals before I was 30, and I guarantee the acid in my late teens did bad things to my brain. So did the psychs and *their* drugs, but that's another story. Almost 50 now, and only through Christ is my brain and my mind over all that, and re-wired, so to speak. I'm incredibly lucky, despite what I've said about my gambling luck.
You can't imagine how much I hate hearing Phish, now. No, I don't recommend LSD to anybody. It's quite possibly the most powerful drug known to man. I also believe it's evil in a very real theological sense, that it opens up the mind to very real spiritual forces, and never good ones.

Vanessa had some rough times in Nov and Dec. Three surgeries in Dec. We had her home shortly before Thanksgiving, though, before she had to go back, so she got to have her first one with us. She got sprung again after New Year's, and she's doing good so far.
We go for the 1mo. follow-up MRI on 2.3, so I'm waiting with bated breath.

I mentioned once to my CEO's son that I don't vote in most elections. He's a college aged kid, so probably a liberal, probably not a Leftist (given his dad and mom), but he clearly assumed I'm in agreement with him because everyone else is, where he comes from.
He started lecturing me about how if I don't vote I'm not doing my civic duty, I have no right to complain, etc. College kid crap. I told him I don't vote for most things because I've withdrawn my consent to be governed and I refuse to enable criminals who ask for my vote. He was surprised.

It might happen more than people realize. While in recovery after a surgery, it felt like I was losing my mind. There were two demons taunting me. The prednisone was stopped and the demons didn't come back.
It would certainly appear that drugs can open doors to unwanted spiritual experiences.
On the other hand, I knew a guy who did recreational drugs and he knew there was a heaven because he'd seen it on one of his trips.

I sucked in HS. Partly because I hated it. Passionately. The only thing that mattered was how much of your waking life you could devote to the place and I had no stomach or patience for it. So I did NOT have the grades to be accepted anywhere but a community college. A history teacher recognized that I wasn't exactly a total blithering idiot and said that I should start there and transfer to a university. I wound up doing that. Continuing momentarily...
