The Morning Report - 1/26/21 [J.J. Sefton]

Good morning, kids. Tuesday and the beat (down) goes on. I'm still numb from everything that's happened since last November, sort of like having my legs amputated at the thigh and yet still feeling like I can run the 100-yard dash. Just one short year ago, which seems like an eternity, Iran was on the ropes like a headless chicken after it's terror mastermind was dispatched, thousands of Hong Kongers were waving the American flag, as well as p-shopped images of Donald Trump's face on the body of Rocky Balboa while singing the Star Spangled Banner, we had virtual full employment while the welfare and food stamp roles lost millions of formerly lost Democrat souls, we were for the first time in decades the world's leading oil exporter, and every attempt to oust the President - forever my president - or otherwise smear, besmirch or otherwise destroy his voting base failed spectacularly.

Intellectually, I of course fully realize what happened in the intervening year and as noted, particularly since last November. But I just cannot accept it. I will never accept it. And, for lack of a better word, I'm happy about it. To accept what happened from a moral standpoint is almost every bit as reprehensible as those who perpetrated it upon us. I know we each live our own life and have to be concerned with the day-to-day challenges, now about to become exponentially more difficult, of keeping our families fed and with a roof over their heads. What will make it difficult will not only be because of the policy edicts handed down by those pulling the rotting cat-gut marionette strings of Zhou Bai-Din that will put a bullet in the head of the already comatose economy, but more crucially the erosion of our G-d given right to speak freely in protest. It's bad enough when the IRS latches on to you or you get the 3:00AM Paul Manafort treatment from the FBI for some crime real or imagined (but mostly imagined), but it will be infinitely worse when your employers, co-workers, neighbors, the local bank and even your own children turn into Donald Sutherland at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and denounce you for "wrong-think" to your condo board's NKVD/Twitter politruk.

Yeah, I get it. Self-preservation is a thing. Keep your head down, don't talk above a whisper and take your beating. It builds character. There's the makings of an Arbeit Macht Frei-ish slogan for some young Jack Dorsey acolyte to noodle around with. But at some point that cannot stand. There has to be a point where you have much more to gain than you do to lose before you openly, proudly declare you have had enough. It reminds me of the last act in The Longest Yard when Paul Crewe, now ostracized by his teammates who know he's throwing the game for the warden, asks the old guy if it was worth 30 years for belting the warden in the mouth. "To me it was."

What is your freedom worth? Your dignity? Is it better to live on your knees than die on your feet? In many ways small and large, we are going to have to confront ourselves with that question. It was never supposed to be that way. Then again, maybe it was. It is human nature we are dealing with, after all. Big time.

Noticed that on the Rand Paul v. Stephanopoulos clip that went viral: Steph saying "Why won't you just say [latest Left narrative]?"

The MSM has really ramped up this line of "questioning in the last few years -- they get a GOP/conservative guest on and demand they say a certain phrase, and they keep demanding it - "Why won't you admit Russia interfered with the 2016 electin?" "Why won't you say Trump's cobid failure cost 100's of thousands of lives?"

Not the media anymore. Tools of the state demanding you repeat their propaganda on live tv or else.

Yeah, I know. It was reported. It may not be true. It may be a story pitched by advisers.

But the fact remains that the somehow there is a rift between the new administration and the rest of the Heroes of the Left.

That isn't fair to broad brush the blame.

Granted, there are many who look at schools as being nothing more than a kennel for their spawn.

There are a number who discovered you can't fight the system and just went with private or home schooling.

Many people did fight, they volunteered, they were elected to school boards, but the professional management ignored them or ran them out.

The unions made it impossible to get rid of garbage teachers or to even make credible standards. The massive increase in administrative staff to do nothing more than cram down communism into the classrooms made any effort by citizens moot.

Its a different kind of battle because it takes years to win, and no one wants their children to be destroyed in the war that may or may not see victory decades from now, so they home school.

Not true. My wife got involved with the PTA and saw up close what a shit show it was and how any input by the taxpayers was actively resented. I said fuck it and sent my youngest to a private school at a not insignificant personal expense (the older wanted to stay in the public school; she subsequently was advised to consult a tutor in college to remedy her terrible grammar, which performed miracles).

You touched on one reason. Practically, the downsides are counter-narrative and thus mustn't be covered.

There's also the existential angle. The enviro/tech Left share a mutual goal: they want 90% of us dead. They want themselves on top and just enough of a servile class to keep them happy. They don't want anyone else. Getting kids to kill themselves (not just lockdowns, but youth suicide has been candling up in a close match to social media consumption by youth), destroying marriage and family, encouraging abortion and more all help reduce population over time. If they can double down on that, they will. They'd rather not gas a few billion people themselves if they can avoid it. That's unpleasant business.

It wouldn't surprise me. It is common in new software. Computing power is so cheap and plentiful that efficiency goes out the window. This is why if you want *really* efficient software, you try to find a Russian man of a certain age (or from the former Warsaw Pact) - usually in his 40s or 50s now. They cam of age professionally toward the end (or just after) of the Soviet Union. Computer time was rare, expensive and hard to get. They learned to program efficiently and reliably due to their catastrophic resource constraints. Middle-aged Russians are, as a group, the most talented programmers I have ever worked with.

Something happened, and it was very fast and very spooky. I graduated from college in the spring of 2008. When I started in 2004 until about February or March of 2008, my college was a hard-left institution where I could disagree with people (with the notable exception of a couple of individual professors) and not have it lead to ostracism and retaliation. I spoke up in class a lot, challenging bullshit where I saw it. It was actually fairly fun in a lot of cases.

The Obama came onto the scene. By early 2008 when he was starting to do well on the national stage, something shifted into a dark place very quickly.

My school went from an extremely Leftist but generally tolerant place to an intellectual gulag in the space of about a year. I was there for the first half of it and saw it happen in real time. Something about Obama made them know they could let their tyrannical freak flags fly. It was their time and they knew it and they capitalized immediately.

My brother turned on a dime in his mid-30s. Suddenly, out of the blue, he called us all (my parents and then me) and told us we weren't good enough for him, we were awful people, etc. etc. He also stopped talking to our sister. Of course, it doesn't help that he got wrapped up with the Church of Satan. Anyway, that was in 2018. None of us have spoken to him since then. I say good riddance. And when my parents die, I'm not calling him and will implore my sister to not call him. He's been stricken from their wills as well.

As far as I'm concerned, he's dead.

I have 2 SIL's that did this and ALL their kids came out just as conservative as they went in.
This method seems to work as I have friends that are doing the same thing with their younger children. The children are reporting back to the parents whenever they feel their teacher's are teaching something that goes against what their parents have taught.

Maybe, maybe not. When I was still working the stated Army policy regarding trannies was that it was still a "mental" thing and not some mickey mouse life choice. There was a whole list of things they had to go through before they'd be allowed to; 1) enter a combat unit or 2) have some surgery to "fix" whatever it was they thought needed fixing.

I've no doubt the leftists running the country will work around all that tho'.

Kids and young adults are easily persuaded especially by peers. Yep, free will, but free will will choose having friends and social connections over being called "raycisss" every time. Now add the prospect of poor grades and non-entry into a profession into that equation and you have the picture. Girls are stuck on the concept of "fairness" and are probably more peer driven than boys. This continues well into old age.

Our local public schools suck because covid. It is now an excuse for a year of non-achievement. I bought many workbooks and gave them the assignments the school refused to give. Discussing this with neighbors, doing extra work or hiring tutors was deemed "unfair" as "not everybody can". Well yeah, they can, they choose not to. If you can afford lots of new cars, vacations, and home improvements like large pools, you can choose to cut back on these and focus on the kids' learning. Sorry, biches, you're shitty parents

With my daughters its like any "contact' with the "outside world" and your doing damage control. They have grown up in a conservative household. That pull on the outside is a strong one with the girls.

391 Same with mine. Very little TV, homeschooled. It was college what done 'em in. But life is full of twists and turns. I thought I knew it all at their age too. I just wasn't as disrespectful and kept my feelings to myself.

That's good! Mine were already out on their own when this stuff started. And honestly, I am okay with it. VERY difficult and bewildering the first go-round, but it loses a bit of its sting each time they pull this stuff. I honestly feel badly for them, and wish they were stronger people.
