The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

A compliant and deferential press is a powerful tool for dictators; how else do they communicate the wonderful news that gasoline is dropping in price from $2/gallon to $5/gallon! President Trump's term was marred by a viciously antagonistic media that minimized or hid his myriad accomplishments and inflated his real or imagined flaws and missteps into huge issues. They did a disservice to America, and they have destroyed their own credibility with the American people.

This is nothing new of course; the media have been left-wing whores ever since I can remember. Walter Cronkite's anti-American defeatist rhetoric during the Vietnam War was a shot across the bow. But compared to the frothing and frantic vitriol pouring out of the mouths of our current media, it was almost evenhanded!

But rest assured, the media will now bring a faithful and fair tone to the reporting on the current (mis)administration.

“We expect reporters covering the White House to operate in good faith and tell their audience the truth, and this White House will do the same. We are moving forward with that mutual understanding,” said T.J. Ducklo, the deputy White House press secretary. “Organizations or individuals who traffic in conspiracy theories, propaganda and lies to spread disinformation will not be tolerated, and we’ll work with the WHCA to decide how to handle those instances moving forward.”
The quotation is from Politico, and I won't link to them. But it is a chilling concept that the Biden kleptocracy will actively control who gets access to its propaganda. I guess it's not enough to attack the right-of-center media...they will take the next step and deplatform them.

In a sane world any media outlet that is denied access would sue and win, based on the recent court holding that the administration cannot deny access to particular journalists, but in a post-Constitutional era I have no confidence that the judicial branch will respect the precedent.

So look forward to glowing articles about Jill Biden's favorite designer and three -part articles on the new carpet in the East Wing. But probing or uncomfortable questions are a thing of the past, because the Fourth Estate is now a lapdog of the Biden regime.

He's just continuing what Obama butt-boy Ben Rhodes codified into formal practice. What they started with the "shut up and report what we say, when we say it, and offer no objections" policy, Biden's puppeteers are extending to include "and if you don't, we'll end you ."

The thing is, when it's 50-50, it's not just Manchin and Sinema. Every single D senator is in a position to demand a payoff. Every one of them. Schumer knows that he can actually count on about 35-40 loyal Democrats, but he can't count on all of them. Mark Kelly is up for election again in 2 years. Schumer is not going to press the issue, because the stakes are too high.

There are two countries on this continent. One is the formal country - a country of lawlessness, corruption, aggression against its enemies, oppression, political purity and lockstep conformity and compliance. In that formal country, he's right.

The other one is an in-situ country in exile. He's not right in that country.

This is why I never get worked up about this shit. In a way, all of this was completely necessary. Trump had to be thrown out of the White House, using fraud, the media had to do their complete about face, and Big Tech had to take their victory lap while cracking down on Free Speech even more.

It's hard for a lot of people to accept, and I get it, but none of this would be happening if Trump was still in the White House. So the general truism is being observed here, which is that we often can't tell when something good is happening, when we're right in the middle of it.

right ... I'm no legal scholar, but the point is to specifically cage in the beast of a strong centralized government. They are necessary for certain things, dangerous in other things (sovereign individual rights being most threatened, as we see now).

The anti-trust laws are another level of protection against another form of centralized power, the "capitalist" (or corporation) that becomes The Dominant Power. Posted by: creeper at January 26, 2021 11:26 AM (XxJt1)

Simple answer: Ever known anyone who has just gotten out of prison? They don't have credit cards, they haven't bought anything for years/decades, they aren't paying into the system via Social Security taxes... they don't have a rent history, haven't bought a car, don't have a cell phone, aren't using hospitals and doctors offices, etc, etc, etc.

169 135 Agreed. Most of all, the filibuster gives them power. They aren't going to give it up for nothing, and everyone else can see whatever bribe they're getting and demand it too. It will literally take 60 senators to agree to end the filibuster, and if there are 60 for it, then what's the point?

Point of order. They can kill it with just 51 votes.
Posted by: WisRich at January 26, 2021 11:27 AM (G0vdT)

Yes, they can. But when it's 50-50, every senator is potentially that 51st vote, so the price of the vote gets astronomical because that senator is literally screwing all his buddies. So one or more of the majority votes no, to preserve everyone's power.

175 To me, the test on filibusters will come when the Senate takes up a) Biden's addition of semi auto rifles to the NFA and/or b) the electoral cheating act mandating all sorts of requirements that essentially make elections useless going forward, and c) expanding the Supreme Court and lower courts to overwhelm opposition.

If the Dems try to ram those through, then it is obvious that our political institutions will fail. Dunno what is next but historically, it is not pretty when this sort of thing comes up.

The treatment of the South was incredibly lenient by historical standards of "conquest". The population losses by comparison to both sides were fairly small.

Disproportionately the United States has been freer, more peaceful, and wealthier than human history generally. American Warring States period, going by the historical record of such things, wouldn't have been very pretty.

And again, a central state always forms and eventually collapses. Having many powers balanced against each other is the best period of time for the populace, but it must be understood that this is impermanent. Aiming for immortality is a fool's game.

You seem to be arguing that the Articles of Confederation would've prevented it. Or avoiding the ratification of the Constitution. I believe things would've gone overall more poorly that route.

I don't disagree regarding re-implementation. Obviously it's not doing a whole lot of good in the modern era, but it does give us a great cassus belli and importantly the 2nd amendment means we're still armed. The Constitution wasn't only a good run but the best observed run we've seen. It'd be wise to borrow from many of its principles extensively.

Hence the soon-to-be permanent installation of the military at DC and the purging of wrong-thinking troops; battlespace prep for the inevitable revolt.

At some point within the next four years, there will be a massive demonstration against the left (whether or not it is an FBI false flag is irrelevant at this point), and the military will fire and will kill massive numbers of Americans.

Hear me now and believe me later.

Related (and unrelated), last year when I was carrying two mortgages, and trying to sell the one, I was heavily leveraged due to all the fun things one has to do to get a house on the market. Paying all my bills on time and all that, not missing a beat, but good golly if those numbers (meaning debt) go up even a little bit, that credit score goes WAY down.

Which I guess makes sense, but currently I have zero debt, other than the one mortgage. Where's my bump back up? Haven't seen it yet (but haven't had a report in more than a month, so we'll see).

You remind me of an old thesis of mine - that the European Union is perpetually disorganized, disunited, and in trouble because their "union" mimics the Articles of Confederation very closely. The White House has the right to issue or revoke any press pass any time. They took Acosta's away because he physically assaulted a female staffer. CNN and the leftist shithole media threw a collective hissy fit and screamed "FREEDOM OF THE PRESS" which has no standing in that instance. Yeah, there's an internal logic to it, but it's a shitty system, because people are people, and if we value things like frugality, then this lousy system makes it look like you're doing it wrong. We naturally take it as an affront to our values system, and it causes "corrective behavior."

Just more power and control, concentrated in the hands of the usual suspects.

they also don't control river banking, at least on those rivers too small to be navigable.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has called on President Joe Biden to declare a national emergency in order to tackle climate change and criticized former President Donald Trump's previous use of the measure.

"Now, Trump used this emergency for a stupid wall, which wasn't an emergency," Schumer said. "But if there ever was an emergency, climate is one. So I would suggest that they explore looking at climate as an emergency, which would give them more flexibility."

304 I am a member of a very large family that has had a military presence since the Revolutionary War. We span all the Branches and the service ranges from one and done to a career. I mention this to show that I can speak with some assurance on the matter of the military shooting at civilians.

Kent State OR mass slaughter of American citizens ain't gonna happen. The NCO class, for too many years, has drummed pride and professionalism into the ranks. We're the premier military in the world for a reason.

That Oath COUNTS. And that is the extent of my discussing the matter.

Useful, like value is too subjective for the green eye shade crowd. You are either potentially a source of profit or you are an ineffective use of resources.

Chico plays with Chicks? (actually accurate by old press accounts).
Posted by: Romeo13 at January 26, 2021 12:01 PM (oHd/0)

The names were given to the brothers by a vaudeville comic and based on a current comic strip, The Monk Family.

"Harpo" and "Chico" were, of course, based on the harp and the brother being a horndog. "Groucho" came either from his being a serious type, or from the "grouch bag" worn around his neck (what vaudevillians used to keep their money in, so it wouldn't get stolen). "Gummo" came from his habit of wearing gum-soled (we would say rubber-soled) shoes. I don't remember where "Zeppo" came from.

None of us alone do have the resources but if the Grameen bank can start and the knights Templar could become the bankers of the Crusades and the pilgrim, we can join together and get something started. In that, though, is the realization that we are going to have to explicitly reject the illegitimate government's rules and regulations.

319 How would we even know what the media reports?. Half the country stopped consuming their propaganda years ago. We don't even look at it. The closest we come is seeing a stray headline when we're trying to pull up the real news sites (AOS, etc.) , or the weather. I guess that's something we should concentrate on making advertisers aware of.
