69 Last month, the New Yorker ran a cover story with associated artwork that touched a nerve, especially among younger Millennials for how it depicted the trashy, addled, superficial lifestyle of the modern young dazzling urbanites. I have no idea what the article was about or if it was positive or negative because it was the cover art that became the story.

When I see today's art post, I am reminded of it. It strikes me as a superficial, hard-edged, joyless and cynical reinterpretation of a common theme.

86 I never cared for Munch and his style although the use of color can be interesting. There always seems to be a negative, perhaps nihilistic, sense that repels me. Instead of the details and subtle coloration of the Dutch Masters, Preraphaelites, or Hudson School, Munch's style is simplistic and muddy. Not much appeal for me.

No; No as far as being institutionalized. Plenty of people have depression w/out being hospitalized.

So many artists have mental health issues. This is a subject of a book "Fire in the brain" (or something like that) by a woman who is a psychiatristand I believe is affected by bipolar disorder herself. Name of writer is Kay Redfied Jamison.

Nervous breakdown is another of those olde tymey phrases, I'm not really sure what it means.

Presumably it was used to try to describe a real phenomenon, in some sort of medical jargony way, but honestly, I don't think it corresponds very accurately to anything I know.

174 So today's story kind of fits in with the painting. It has a Christmas theme, I guess should have posted it last month, but in this surreal tragic twisted timeline we occupy, who's counting?
Little kallisto's first grade Christmas was marked by her noticing many of the little kiddos were presenting gifts to Sister Prettylady. (She was a young nun.)So I rushed home in a panic, telling my mom we had to go shopping for Sister, because!!! Mom had only been in the states about seven years, she wasn't really accustomed to these school customs, but my anxiety caused her to get us to the store.

Mom didn't really know what to get the nun. She had not been Catholic school educated. So she asked the saleslady and the woman suggested a pair of stockings. So mom picked the sheerest black sexy thigh stockings, and that's what we wrapped up to present to Sister.
Mom was only 25 yrs old and I guess she figured if she wears this type of hose, a young Catholic nun would like them also??

Isn't it ironic ? Society mocks ancient man for making up stories to explain things they couldn't understand. Although I'm not in the least bit spiritual - that doesn't mean those things can't exist.

That's an interesting and complicated subject. Part of the problem being, someone ELSE deciding if one's experiences are a "disorder" or not. The language associated with modern diagnosis SHOULD include the concept that the person experiencing whatever, sees it as a disorder, or there's some objective evidence WE have that something's not working in their life.

So if one "sees" visions, who is to say it's a disorder? The doctor? Clergy? The state?

Yet, this is from the E-Mail spam they sent me this week:
President-elect Biden is already pushing a radical left-wing agenda. Despite his calls for "unity," his first 100 days in office could be some of the divisive in U.S. presidential history. At home he has signaled plans for amnesty-based immigration measures, declared war on American energy by sabotaging the Keystone XL pipeline, and proposed a bloated $1.9 trillion job-killing wish list masquerading as a COVID-relief bill.

And yet, they don't see the connection. I wonder what it's like to be completely insane.

That's a shame. I'm not sick of my book, but retrofitting it so that how it ends fits in with the beginning is hard. And once I get past the mid-point, a lot of it is stream of consciousness which I have to turn into dialogue and set pieces. And I don't really have a lot of writer's block, which I did before - my problem is that my schedule / hours are such that I can't set aside the same time every day to sit down and write for at least an hour.

And the temptation to get loaded on Saturday and then sleep on Sunday? Well, that's another problem, too.

Yep, that's how I'm leaning. This was a special case. The land adjoined mine. I got a deal on the house and added the property to my homestead. I only need one more acre for a Agricultural valuation on the land (Part of my fuckem all
pay no tax plan). So I'm thinking of subdividing the plot, selling off the house and 1/3rd acre plot for profit and then I'm still only shy 1.3 acres . I will bide my time until some more adjacent property comes up for sale.

475 I'm still a small time landlord, and when you have good people it's one of the easiest jobs in the world. One key - i'm able to drive by and eyeball each property at least every other day, and I try to talk to each one of my tenants personally at least once or twice a week. Having a personal relationship makes it much easier to know about and deal with problems. For instance I have a fourplex - if any one of them acts up, I've got 3 phone calls the next morning telling me exactly what went down.

476 I'm currently renting a townhome and have been worried that the owner will decide to sell and I'll have to search for another place. Hard to do with two pets in my town. There are only 4 units and so far we've all been able to work and pay rent on time.

People are flocking to the area from the West Coast to flee what is ruined there and as a result home prices and rents have gone sky high. Ugh, I should have bought when the timing was right.
