Quarantine Cafe: The Grifties Edition

Someone calling himself "Hotep Jesus" will be doing a "Grifties" award show on January 21.

Oh, there have been so many outstanding grifters this year. Can't they all just win?!!

Women, Minorities hardest hit:

Magic!

For those of you who read the disclosures that John Weaver of the Lincoln Project sexually harassed young men online and said, "I bet he plays the Jim McGreevey/Kevin Spacey card and declares he will Live His Truth as a gay American," collect your winnings.

Caveat: The winnings are immeasurably tiny. Because this shit was obvo.

We make them a few different. The old reliable Southern style with biscuits, and for breakfast, lunch, or dinner is salt and pepper the rinsed pork chop before dredging it through a plate of flour with a fair amount of salt, pepper, and garlic mixed into it. Heat oil in the skillet, fry, put a couple of pats of butter into the pan before flipping, flip onto the butter, and finish cooking. Mmm.

I like mine with a pinch of cayenne pepper in the flour but it's too much for the kids.

Dad had a AAA policy for years. I have an option with my insurance for a roadside rider. $5 a year. 1 free tow per year and unlimited jumps or run out of gas rescue. In ten years I have used the tow twice and the jump once. The first tow, kidlet and I were camping about 40 miles from town off an old dirt road. I tied a grocery bag on the closet marker. We walked out 11 miles in the rain until we had a signal. Tow to my preferred shop was gratis. Turned out to be the fuel pump which, of course was in the gas tank. I tried the jumper box, fuses, anything I could think of. No go. I think the tow bill was about $700. My last camping trip.

They need to keep reminding the idiots that this happened, they're already forgetting. This makes me think even more they've got something planned, and need to keep this front and center for the coming narrative.

I've had AAA for 40 something years now, both insurance and roadside crap. I can't say enough good things about the company for insurance. The roadside service is good, but you need to weigh what you do. A few years back they changed the distance they'll tow with the standard service, so I upgraded. 10 miles ain't shit. I sure won't change, they've always done everything I've asked and been fast. Usually wind up having to use annually for me or somebody. Also, you can get good hotel rates through them.

345 I've been using AAA since 1976. They've been great. I have the premium package which has tows up to 100 miles. They also have a package with tows up to 200 miles for free. Nice thing is if you need a tow but the mechanic is closed. They'll drop it off at home then come back later and take it to the mechanic when they are open. All on the same tow.

Just watched the Hostiles on. Netflix (yeah, I know but grandkids). The story is of a retiring cavalry captain forced to return his nemesis, an old Cheyenne Indian chief, back to his home valley in Montana. Along the way they encounter rampaging Comanches, fur trappers and more. Very well done with a number of realistic gun battles.

353 AAA is great, although they will only give you 3 free tows a year. We've always bought the premium plan. We were on vacation one year and on our way to visit my wife's friend in Maine. Our car broke down in Foxboro, Mass. We got a tow all the way to Saco-Biddiford, Maine where her friend lives. 103 miles. We rode with the wrecker driver and paid the toll so he let us have the 3 extra miles.

I've used it numerous times since then. I've got more than my money's worth out of it.

Posted by: Mr. Gray at January 15, 2021 08:39 PM (9nwlC)

I get limited use in a fight scene, but really, it makes it look like you're viewing through a camera. But when 2 guys are SITTING at a table, talking and the camera is jumping around and zooming (clunkily) in and out, just stop. Stop already.

I tried to watch a transformers movie (think it had like, an 8 on IMBD) and just couldn't. I have no fucking idea what was going on, same sort of thing but with CGI. Which, makes it even worse in a lot of ways. Blurry, choppy, bad frame rate (get a new graphics card for crying out loud) and explosions. I blame Blair Witch. But THAT had a reason for being that way. But now $200M movies are supposed to look like a found-footage film? Fuck off.

Well, one of the best ways to ensure continuity of service with vehicles is to have at least one backup. And since I have a car trailer to tote the hobby cars around, it can also be my emergency tow vehicle. Now if I was a long way from home, say southern Utah, well then if the rig broke down, and a roadside repair was impossible, then I'd have it towed to the nearest decent-sized town, and then weigh my options.

I didn't see that one.

The 'action' cinematography that grinds my gears is this type:

Hero begins throwing a punch. Camera is a fish-eye lens, 6.2 miles from the action. Duration of cut: 0.7 seconds. Hero lands the punch. Camera is a mini-go-pro inside the punch-ee's left nostril. Duration of cut: 0.1 seconds. Punch-ee goes flying. Camera is the fish-eye thing again. Duration of cut: 0.8 seconds. Punch-ee lands. Camera is in a gopher hole where his head lands. Duration of cut: 0.3 seconds.

Nobody had to act at all. Or do any stunts. I think "the matrix" started it, but at least they had shots that lasted a few seconds and switched from "bullet time" to super-speed.

I have snow and summer tires on their own rims and change my tires spring and fall. Maybe it is the cheap rims these days, but over the course of a season several of them will fuse to the hubs and require very heavy blows with a rubber mallet to free them. After I put the snows on last fall I came in and told wifey we needed an auto club membership because there is no way I want to be laying on the pavement on Interstate 80 pounding away on a tire trying to free it when we are on a trip to visit a kid. I've got no problem calling AAA (or USAA in my case) in that situation.

I never needed them for my own bikes thank god, but one year a couple from kentucky that was staying at our hotel blew the trans on their bike. The dude says yeah I can get a trans in town, but you need so many specialty tools. He looked like he saw jesus when I walked him over to the truck and told him, everything you need is right there. Sure enough, he got the trans in town and spent the day swapping it out. It was a cool place, it had a 4 car garage that we kept the bikes in, and the owner had a compressor to run the air tools. 417 I don't blame DC businesses boarding up -- after the past 8 mos. of BLM-antifa riots, looting, arson, and people not being able to access the National Mall, *if* there are rioters, it will be directed at the nearby shops.

Think boarding up shops just in case has become the "new normal."

423 Common cold. Cause a space faring race that had been monitoring the Earth for years (centuries?) wouldn't have groked on the concept of microbes, what Mars totally wouldn't have.

Was the original ending of the book. Mankind was doomed, nobody had the power or tech to stop the Martians but the lowliest earth inhabitant took them down.

Its not completely unreasonable, Mars might be too hostile for earth-style microbes and virii to survive. Was better than Signs at least.

We have a phenomena around here called swelling lug nuts. While it sounds vaguely pornographic what happens is salt gets under the coating on the nuts, the steel rusts and swells and in very short order your socket will not fit. I have a 25" breaker bar with me also, but useless when the socket won't fit. Actually thought it was just a story until I had it happen to me switching a snow tire out in the spring.

A neighbor had some good advice about pickups. If you get a new truck that you plan to actually use, just take it and drive it through the brush and bang some stuff around in the bed and put the first scratches and dings in it right off the bat.

494 one of my favorite anthology sci fi stories was time travelers. they went back in tiem, had this special path set out to not stray from all precautions taken. The big rich guy wanted to hunt a T-Rex so he got just the right gun and everything, went back ind time and ... shot the thing to death, what a kill!

...until all the ticks and parasites leaped off of the thing and ate the hunting party alive.

Similar story but instead of ticks the hunters accidentally step on a butterfly and when they return to the present it's now a Nazi like world. So when people say something about the butterfly effect I think of the story and that a butterfly flaps its wings and changes something on the other side of the world.

Had dinner at the bar in that town, which is open at 1/2 capacity. Actually felt normal for a change.
Came back to SPI, where we currently live, only to see that the state is warning all it's employees to stay out of downtown and the Capitol area through Wednesday because of "anticipated protests". WTH? They didn't do that back in June during the George Floyd fiasco when we got scared enough of the BLM/Antifa crowd to pack up and get outta Dodge for a couple of days... 574 Wow, a 72 Chevy with 300,000 would bring $1500.

Check underneath.

Is he mad at you?

I know, prices on used trucks are insane, I have been looking. The one he just bought new was 80k. They only wanted to give him $1400 trade in, and he said he didn't feel like dealing with having to sell it with all the shit he has to deal with getting out of the house. He has to have a 5th wheel hitch done on the new truck, so as soon as that gets done he'll drive the old one to the house. yeah 1400, I was shit yeah. truck is in nice shape too, he's fanatical with everything he owns. Thats why I'm buying his house. I take care of his 3 harleys, and just seeing how he is with those is a clue. I drove the truck, he just did all new brakes, tires, and shocks. It drives great.

575 So what's more likely to happen: a) no one shows up for any of these alleged demonstrations and nothing happens or b) Antifa shows up disguised as MAGA supporters and raise all kinds of havoc? Our local rag, er, newspaper claims there's a "Save Our State" rally planned at noon tomorrow, doesn't say by whom and I've never heard of it, so now hubby wants to head back out to the house tomorrow with our daughter (not a bad idea as there's still a lot more work to be done). Can't stay there overnight yet because there's no furniture...

582 Remember that the founders gave us a Constitutional
Republic, not mob-rule democracy. Getting it back just may require
another revolution.

Perhaps more in the tradition of the Duchess of Argyle.

Although given the story as told in Wiki, perhaps not that far off...

586 I never thought i could smile and be in a happy marriage again if not for the help of DR.Moses Buba. I got the doctors Emailsbuba.herbalmiraclemedicine@gmail.com ) on the internet and i emailed him, and he got back to me with some encouraging words, he got me some herbs cream which i use for just 8 days and i began to feel the enlargement of my penis, and without surgery. This went on for a little period of about 10 days and to my surprise my wife keeps screaming that she loves my big dick now. Now my wife no longer cheats on me, and my penis is now about 10.5 inches long on erection and off course very large round. And now my wife uses breasts, hips and bums enlargement. I and my wife are very happy for the help rendered to me by DR.Moses Buba, and I want to say a big thanks to the Doctor for the help. You can contact the Doctor now on his Email buba.herbalmiraclemedicine@gmail.com ) OR WHATSAPP +2349060529305
