A Serious Question: What Makes The Most Sense, Switching Party Affiliation To Independent, Or to Something (Anything) Other Than Republican?

It's all done except for the check mark in the "Independent" box or one of the other minor parties that my state recognizes as a viable political organization.

Strangely, I see on the form that one of the choices is "Republican," but I don't see them as a viable political party as much as a funnel for money from the unwise to the head grifters. If I had hired a contractor or a car mechanic and got the kind of shoddy work I have received for my support of the Republican party in NJ (and nationally), I would have fired him that day and asked for my money back.

So...Conservative is tempting, but judging by the state of the website, I might be quite lonely.

And what about registering as a Democrat just to vote for the most idiotic and outrageous of their candidates? That would be fun but unproductive.

The U.S. Constitution Party is another option. That sounds like fun! But I might need a custom-made tinfoil hat. I mean, they are correct that our government is corrupt, but their perspective is right out of left field.

I can't see myself as a Green Party member. I just don't dig chicks with hairy armpits.

Libertarian? Yeah...no. I am not a stoner, and I want the damned borders closed.

Ooh! here's one! The Natural Law Party. I like their platform, all seven planks! It's nice and short and hasn't been touched since 2002.

In reality, it doesn't matter at all. the important message is that I am leaving the Republican party, not that I am going anywhere else. And it's not just that I am leaving them; I want to hurt them. They need to suffer; they need to bleed; they need to be driven from the public square, metaphorically chased by patriots with whips.

16 Party affiliation has always struck me as a sinister way to get people to conform.

Most of my voting life was spent in Missouri, and there was never any point to register. You could vote in whichever primary you wanted, and there didn't seem to be a problem. I suppose occasionally there might be a concerted effort to infiltrate the other's primary, but... eh.

I think a LOT more harm than good has been done, by parties essentially locking in voters.

Posted by: BurtTC at January 17, 2021 12:08 PM (oQ94s)

20 Register as a democrat.

In open primaries, vote for the worst democrat candidate.

In closed primaries, write in your candidate of choice. I use "Richard Nixon" but will now use "Donald Trump".

In the general elections, don't vote except for local and state races which impact you directly and vote for the one who will do you the least harm.

42 Meh, I'm checking out of politics altogether. If the District of China (or DC for short) is as corrupt as it appears to be, then the country is beyond hope unless we have a true revolution. Their platform is what we see going on around us: freedom and American values being swept away daily.

Allow me to start by saying that pot, ass sex, and Mexicans is not all libertarians (or the Libertarian Party) is about.

But, as a libertarian myself, I would suggest just listing yourself as an Independent.
That's what I do. Unless you live in a state with a closed primary and have a strong interest in a party's candidate choice there's really no advantage to declaring a party 'loyalty'. Its just a way to influence your thinking - 'I'm a Republican' therefore 'I should vote party line'.

And we've seen a lot of what parties do to constituencies they think are 'safe'.

Lots of people have put a lot of thought into this, and have concluded that democracy itself is cancer. It's loaded with the avaricious desire to control others. With a majority of one, massive amounts of power are transferred from one faction to another, and the one simple majority that has ALWAYS been present, in this country at least, is a majority of citizens who DON'T vote at all.

Allegedly, in the '06 Senate race, the Democrat candidate, Clear McCatshit, urged her voters to switch over and vote for Rapin' Akin in the primary, so she could run against him, and not have to deal with the other two candidates. One was the state R party chairperson (I think), and the other a popular businessman, with clear conservative positions.

Needless to say, Akin won.

However, rather than a big push by McCatshit's voters, I think the easier explanation is, Akin was a sitting Congressman, and the other two relative unknowns. It was a very close race, and the fact he came out on top was almost just dumb luck.

116 I started voting when Reagan was running for his first term. Although my entire family was Dem (all union workers), I registered GOP.

GHW Bush forced me to reconsider, and then when Perot formed his Reform Party, I thought "Ah, HAH!" but we know how that went.

I then dipped my toes into the Libertarians, but yeah,..bunch of stoners. Some good ideas, but too many stoners.

So after 2004 election, I went undeclared or independent depending on state I was living in at the time.

Prior to the 2010 election, I thought I saw signs of life in the GOP, especially with the Tea Party faction pushing them in the right direction. Trump brought a light to this effort, and made me feel like FINALLY a party was paying attention.

The last 2 years have left me greatly disappointed, but I think I'll stay GOP for at least the next election, only so I can vote AGAINST whatever GOPe cuck the establishment put up.

As Jonathan Swift said, you cannot reason someone out of a position that was not come to by reason.

The loudmouth bint who took his place is part of The Squad mentality. Radical lefty, and she's gotten awfully mouthy about some of the current comings and goings.

I assume she'll hold the seat as long as she wants to. These types are voted in, and the formula is, be annoying, go crazy with the leftist slogans and platitudes. Meanwhile, consolidate your power.

Antifa is not a political party, yet they cause things to happen. BLM/ Black Bloc, same. Yes, they're horrible people, but that's irrelevant to the point.

Tossing out an idea: Pan American Union (or whatever sounds good). If voting doesn't matter on the national level, then building a mutual support network through and across communities outside the established political spectrum becomes a way forward. Try to take over local offices, especially law enforcement (elected sheriffs, etc) because as we've established they can have a lot of influence. On Wednesday, following his inauguration, Biden will end Trump's restriction on immigration to the U.S. from some Muslim-majority countries, move to rejoin the Paris climate accord and mandate mask-wearing on federal property and during interstate travel. Those are among roughly a dozen actions Biden will take on his first day in the White House, his incoming chief of staff, Ron Klain, said in a memo to senior staff.

Providing a path to citizenship for millions of immigrants in the U.S. illegally will be part of Biden's agenda, according to people briefed on his plans. There would be a faster track for those in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which shields people from deportation who came to the U.S. as children, and for those from strife-torn countries with temporary status.

In the following week, Klain said, Biden would take additional actions relating to criminal justice reform, climate change and immigration - including a directive to speed the reuniting of families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border under Trump's policies.

Not sure what I'll do in Tennessee. In fairness to the TN Republicans they've kept the state stable and open for business when many others haven't, but TN Democrats are also sometimes not as terrible as they are in other states (it was a pro-business D that spiked this state's disastrous attempt at healthcare meddling). The KNK also trains poll-watchers to election sites during voting and counting, to ensure the integrity of all elections. 323 I am a libertarian who is not a stoner and wants the borders closed. So I guess that means i am not a libertarian. I used to be a self described libertarian - conservative with the emphasis on conservative. The libertarian part is to describe my area of conservatism. It was really to draw myself far from W, Frist, and Goode.

i am not libertarian, they are statist. As for parties, my state doesn't register by party so I can't do anything about the. I know I have voted libertarian and Dem over the years. But before you guys banish me, the libertarian was way better than the R what was going to lose. And the one Dem I voted for in my life was well to the right of the Repub and the only issue at hand was 2A.

And the donks parrot antifa dogma. Antifa is totally on board with critical race theory, "fa" is just a convenient usage, as nazis are universally despised. If you can label your opponent a nazi, they will be hated. I always thought that was part of why an obviously totalitarian hate organization chose "antifa" as a title and it turns out to be true. Bray makes it very clear that the delight people see in the hollywood destruction of the nazi villain was a determining factor.

I wish we could stop cranking out new nazi movies, and nazi dystopia films and books and just stick to history. There is however an absolute addiction to this format. It's worse than the revulsion I feel at the Jane Austen industry, which I hate. The continued new nazi books, movies, tv shows only add to the national ignorance of history and helped create this monster.

328 Yesterday B'Gal and I were discussing our reactions to having the election stolen and getting away with it. I mentioned that we owe Donald Trump a debt we can never repay because he showed us the truth about our country and just how corrupt the progs are who infest it.
There's nothing wrong with the system. As originally envisioned, it contains everything needed for success, which we proved for many years. As we've seen over the summer, the only thing that progs needed to do to collapse they system was not abide by the rules. By ordering their police departments to stand down during the BLM/Panty-fa riots, prog mayors and governors paved the way for the Great Steal.

331 to be strategic, I guess "it depends". If primaries are open, change to independent (or whatever), and vote any party where you can have an influence. If not open, depending on the area, it might be better to register as R or D and help choose their primary candidate, depending on which is more vulnerable.

Strong Republican areas ... might be good to vote against a GOPe in the primary, since he has no worries in the general. Those should be where the best America First candidates are, not the establishment goons.

The KNK advocates for smaller, local prisons. The most violent can be segregated from other, younger, still salvagable offenders. 341 Look, politics is war by other means. Politics, like war, is a *social* activity. Groups of people get together and organize (a social activity) to do it.

Groups that organize, and hence socialize, better, will be more successful at either for of war: kinetic or political.

The types of people who tend to be conservatives tend to be more individualistic, and prefer to socialize less, and indeed are often not very good at it. Guess what? We get out-organized. So we get our asses beat. And we will CONTINUE to get our asses beat until we organize.

Those resident but not yet citizens must be in classes for English fluency, civics, and basic economics. Migrants, identity thieves, scab-laborers, and other aliens present without paperwork will be treated under international law as pirates and terrorists.

If the Establishment insists on running one of the usual worms, and they can win without our support then so be it.

I would extend the Great American label to journalists , websites, and authors too.

But the traitor moves amongst those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not to be a traitor as he rots the soul of a nation.

396 291 You either work to take over the GOP or you give up on politics. Taking over the GOP would be probably two orders of magnitude easier than starting up a new nationwide party, and making it big enough to matter.

Frickin people couldn't even be bothered to go to the local Republican Club meetings, but they're going to start a new party? It is to laugh.

Then win additional state legislatures in 2022 so that they can protect their citizens from the left's hatred. It's bound to happen, given how insane the left is today.

Math is hard, isn't it ? History as well. Combining the two ? Damn near impossible - apparently.

Two attempts have failed at taking over the GOP. The Tea Party - where assuming a sudden 1/3 membership in GOP seats was nullified by leadership in less than eight years. And Trump - where leadership threw the House majority in 2018 and then the White House in 2020 by not opposing obvious fraud.

To take over the GOP - you have to instantly, in one election, take over the majority of GOP positions. Which can't happen - as they will always hold the Senate. Numbskull.

This is generally a good plan: go local. Much of the functional power still resides at the local level, as Trump found out the hard way when he tried to enforce his immigration policy. One of the best critical analyses I've run across on why non-leftists are currently on the ropes is that for decades they've been totally laser-focused on the White House to the exclusion of every other institution, which one by one got subverted by the leftists. Unless that changes the leftists will just keep rolling up more and more power at all levels.

497 In my state there is no chance of a third party candidate winning an election.

The most credible way to influence who becomes a candidate is to participate. The way it works here is: one hour after the election is closed party participants gather at the designated precinct place and bring forth ideas, vote on officer who will be precinct delegates to the county.

Infiltrate and be as aggressive as the communists.

505 Speaking of 6 to 3, SCOTUS Roberts needs to burn in hell.
Recall that he was the swing vote in ruling that Team Trump hadn't complied with the Administrative Procedure Act to knock out Obama's DACA EO (even Obama says that what he did was illegal). Trump was never going to deport 98% of Dreamers. So what Roberts did was to kill Trump's leverage to cut a universal immigration deal that was fair to legal citizens.

So now we'll get a plethora of illegal Biden EOs written by CoS Ron Klain.

EOs should be limited to what's strictly in the purview of POTUS, not policy. Truman could desegregate the military by EO because he was commander in chief.

522 Taking over the GOP requires one to work within the party -- by, for example, take over the precinct committeeman slots, and then move onward. Take over the GOP machinery on a county-by-county level (and then, state-by-state, and then, nationally).

Your opponents will be entrenched GOP party poohbahs (even at the local level) who will lie to your face, subvert your attempts to internal reform, and who will seek to destroy you for your temerity in trying to oust them.

Once you wrest the party machinery away from those who control it, you manipulate the machine to engineer the ouster of GOPe candidates from within (e.g. changing nominating contests from primaries to conventions to guarantee that your "smoke-filled room" picks the candidate you want, and trashes the incumbent), and promote MAGA-type candidates.

It will be a long slog against extremely bitter opposition.

The NeverTrumpers wanted to sabotage Trump and 'take the party back'. Well, I say let them have it. That way we know who all the Vichy-types are, and where we can find them.

Taking over the Republican Party will only imbed the traitors like ticks in the organization, much in the same way the Deep State stayed within the bureaucracy to stymie Trump. Let the parasite consume that old host, and we either co-opt an existing party (like the Constitution Party) or start a new one. If Nigel Farage can do it in the UK, so can we.

543 There is a lot of wreckage in a country. Look at how long Venezuela continues to linger on and on and on. America is damaged, but there is a considerably more undamaged in the nation; we've begun the road to perdition, but that journey is still in the early stages.

Because of the way the election laws and commissions are set up, it is nearly impossible to dislodge an incumbent through the conventional processes. But we need to do just that: we need to destroy the concept of the professional legislator, and revert to the citizen legislator.

Since we cannot dislodge incumbents through the normal primary / election process, the only way to be rid of them is to withhold our votes for the GOP in sufficient numbers for them to lose federal elections across the board. Does it work to let the freakin' Dems have Congress for another go-around, if we can unseat a huge swath of GOPe types?

I believe recovery of the ensuing damage will be more easily accomplished and more permanently established if the GOP corruptocracy can be dislodged en masse from Congress. And it isn't going to happen without a drastic, dramatic excision.

Posted by: LCMS Rulz! at January 17, 2021 02:53 PM (YPZzQ)

544 Party branding has the same problem as personal reputation. Trump had the reputation -- earned, to some degree -- of being a loud-mouthed abuser of women, individual home-owners, and foreigners. ANY policy he put forward was critiqued through a lens of finding his supposedly evil motives. He appointed a woman -- the media says -- who he would like to grab by the privates. He restricted migration -- the media says -- because he hates brown people. Etc. It's WRONG and unhelpful.

SOMEHOW it is necessary to get to a point where we discuss problems and issues and priorities and solutions irrespective of the people and party participating in the discussion.

If Hannibal Lector takes a side on an issue, do we -- must we -- take the other side? If Lector says FBI agents should make audio recordings of all interviews, do we then insist that the FD-302 is time-honored, sufficient, and beyond question? If Lector advocates zinc and HCQ as treatment for Covid, do we flush our medicine cabinets of the stuff?

But, it is difficult to start a new party. State laws are written to make it hard for new parties to get on the ballot - sometimes it can take years to get ballot access on the same grounds as the D or R. It may be more efficient and feasible for MAGA to just take over the GOP. That just means MAGA people have to start by organizing and going to low-level Precinct Meetings, ejecting the current officeholders, and putting in reliable folks. It probably wouldn't take but a handful of MAGA people to show up to a precinct meeting to take over.
Otherwise, I'm with you 100%. I'm not going to give a damn dollar to the national GOP, and I won't be giving to any money to any congresscritter who didn't object to the EV's. Saving some donations to support primary opponents of coward state legislators in GA, MI, PA, AZ, and WI, too.

Posted by: Snidely Whiplash at January 17, 2021 04:59 PM (dVp8a)

But see this:

91 The problem with voting for the craziest Democrat in the primary is that Democrats like crazy. See Kamala Harris.

LOL. Tough crowd.

562 I look at my choices and say,"What do I want?"
The answer is "less government". Actually, a hell of a lot less government.

Of all the choices, only the Libertarian party professes that. Every other party has no problem with telling me how to live my life, they simply differ in what direction they wish to force me. So, I register L. Every year they have a convention/ caucus, which I ignore. Every once in awhile, I'll get a "please give us money" letter, which I also ignore.

Practical advantage: nobody else sends me pleas for money. Friends with "I" registration get begging letters from both D and R.

563 As a life-long Republican, living in a Hard-Blue-Progressive state, I finally switched my registration to Democrat. That way I have the pleasure of voting against each and every Democrat incumbent at each and every opportunity.
While I generally support the Republican candidates, they are simply hopeless against the Democrat incumbent, so there's not much point in trying to pick the "best" one in the Primary Election.

Posted by: DaveK at January 17, 2021 05:45 PM (4g9jU)

564 I'm registering with the CheatWare/Mail-In Fraud Party.

That way, I can vote 400,000 times. After midnight. In five states.

Posted by: The Gipper Lives at January 17, 2021 05:50 PM (Ndje9)

565 I am thinking of not voting ever again. If my vote will be stolen what is the point? I'm never voting Dem so why bother.

Posted by: Sally at January 17, 2021 05:58 PM (DEGXS)

566 For a liberty loving patriot to change registration away from Republican is, in my opinion, the moral equivalent of voting for Ross Perot. The defections gave us Clinton as a plurality president...and how did that work to further your deepest held values? Dennis Prager has a video out that characterizes the Left as children who, believing parents to be perfect, discard their values when they learn that their parents are flawed humans. Yes, there are Republicans who have been intimidated, who are corrupt - but I chose not to abandon my party for what?

The Republican Party ought not be judged by the most corrupt members, but rather, by the ideals it seeks to promote. Take your marbles if you must, they are yours to do with as you please. But I invite you to join me in a struggle to redeem that which is great in our party, to hold leadership to account, and continue to deliver my contribution in fulfillment of the values I hold and in support of the other Liberty-Loving Republicans here in California.

567 Timely piece! I was just looking up contact information for as5-fu**ing halfwit Kevin McCarthy, to let him know what I think of GOP House "leadership". Presumably Wyoming voters will end the outsized ambitions of Dick's fat, stupid daughter in a primary next year, and Grand Rapids, MI conservatives will send Meijer back to his family money and grocery clerk career - either by nominating a conservative or staying home on election day to elect a leftist.
Piss off, RINOs.

568 2 weeks ago I changed my party to No Party. I doubt my little drop will matter in the ocean but it gives me emotional satisfaction to know that my name is no longer affiliated with that bunch of embarrassing, spineless, turncoat, Mitt-Romney-loving bitches.

569 I'm done waiting for the Republican Party to step up and become what they say they are. Last week did it for me. Done, done, done. They destroyed themselves.

570 566 "...The Republican Party ought not be judged by the most corrupt members, but rather, by the ideals it seeks to promote. Take your marbles if you must, they are yours to do with as you please."

I didn't realize Ben Sasse read AoS.

Seriously, no. Hell no. Fuck no!

Judged by ideals? Pull your head out of your ass. Political parties are judged by how well they *use the power given to them by their voters.*

Loserthink, that's what is inside your head.

572 For those of you who have no idea of what Q is besides what the media says: it is an internet thing where a supposed government insider with top security clearance drops hints and clues in posts about what an evil cabal Ia doing and the efforts to expose and fight them. Anons are people who research things and post their findings. Q may or may not react to these findings. The basic themes are that the people associated with Q are executing their plan, and readers should sit back and "enjoy the show". At no point does Q call for anyone to commit any violence or go any further than posting memes. Constant calls for patience and "trusting the plan". No idea why the MSM wants to make Q out to be a "dangerous terrorist" thing. Obvious lie.

573 I would suggest signing up as a Democrat as there really is only one party. Then vote for the worst primary candidate (any non incumbent will do). I move to a Red county, in a red state(Virginia) and a red country in 2001 and sadly they are all cancer filled blue.

578 Just attempting to replace RINOs has failed. The RNC fights people they can't control. It needs to be a fight from both sides - primary them where possible, and if the candidate is a uniparty stooge, run a third party candidate hard and vote for them even if it means the D's win. Our way or the highway.

Of course, this will only be effective where they don't control the electoral system, but that isn't everywhere and this organizes us for peaceful resistance.

580 I withdrew my voter registration 10 days ago. I may never vote again unless we go to paper ballots, have voter ID, and signature verifications on mail in ballots. That will never happen. Also, in my state, we now give all our electoral votes to the whomever wins the popular vote. My local government is controlled by Democrats. I'm done with it here.

Posted by: Watchdog at January 17, 2021 09:06 PM (L+jCO)

581 I'm in NJ too. I think I'll register as a Dem and pick the worst candidate in this state.,

582 A practical reason for switching from Republican is this. During the 2018 mid-term elections I requested a absentee ballot via email, about four weeks before the election. I got the ballot the day before the election and it was due the following evening before 7:00pm. Since I was out of state this was problematic. After returning home I changed my party affiliation from Republican to Independent. Fast forward to 2020. During this election cycle I received a mail in ballot and two post card reminders to vote, as my vote had not yet been cast. My wife, still registered as a Republican, never got a mail in ballot or any reminder post cards in the mail. What do you think would happen if the county election board was Republican controlled and this happened to a Democrat?

Posted by: Mark Felt at January 17, 2021 11:22 PM (nzew1)

583 Why are you talking about this bullshit? The country was just overthrown by the communists and we're going to have a one-party system going forward.

Call yourself anything you want; it won't mean a goddam thing.

584 I left the GOP after Mitt the Moral (tm) just couldn't bring himself to say that the GOP way was better than the Barackster's socialism.

Posted by: Kdizzleydoo at January 18, 2021 09:10 AM (hv82i)

587 Just don't vote, it doesn't count unless it is for a democrat and besides votes don't win elections, vote counters do and they work for the democrats.
I see one party now, democrat, in the future the candidates will be elected in a landslide with 110% turn out whether anyone votes or not.
Yes it is that corrupt.
No matter who wins, the government gets their man or woman.

Posted by: obsidian at January 18, 2021 10:51 AM (7+yqP)

588 Calm down everyone there is no need to leave Republican party we need to entrench and demand better candidates who will take action and if the candidates nominated do not we withhold our vote. Taking your ball and going home is the kind of childish crap the Never Trumpers and Con INC. grifters do we are better than that.
