Twitter, Facebook Lose $51.2 Billion in Combined Market Value Since Purging Conservatives Last Week

LOLGF.

Social media giants Facebook and Twitter have collectively seen $51.2 billion in combined market value wiped out over the last two trading sessions since they banned President Donald Trump from their platforms following the U.S. Capitol breach.

Large tech firms and a number Democratic political figures have claimed Trump incited violence at the U.S. Capitol last week. The incident disrupted debates in both the House and Senate as lawmakers were forced to shelter in place while police and security attempted to seize back control.

And right now, lawyers are scanning prior declarations by Dorsey and Zuckerberg about their censorship policies, and planning shareholder suits due to big losses in stock price based on false claims made by Dorsey and Zuckerberg.

Any stockholders who lost money, arguably due to reliance on their false representations, can sue the companies.

I'd really like to hear from those self-identified "conservatives" in Conservative, Inc. who still think that corporations are our frenz.

Or are they still claiming to be conservatives? Are they nearly ready to admit what they are, pro-monopoly social liberals and staunch defenders of the political elite's right to rule?

63 I don't know why conservatives take every point of stock fluctuation as a sign a company is in deep trouble, but Facebook is not going to be concerned. Nike stock is near a 5 year high, for instance.

Now, the companies ARE worried about the seething hatred to the point Facebook employees are advised not to wear their swag in public, and they should really be worried that Trump looks so calm. But even if they lost all their customers, they have enough blackmail material to stay as a going concern until the heat death of the universe, or until Donald Trump declares himself American Emperor.

I have been listening to the History of Rome podcast. It is excellent and I highly recommend it to anyone and I am thankful to whomever it was here who recommended it.

I do not agree with the guy's viewpoint all the time. His relation of history and anecdotes is good, however his analysis can be... off. Not biased per se.

He said something in the bit on the transition from the middle Republic to the late republic that caught my interest and got me thinking. He said that the ruling group of patrician families after the Punic wars and the loss of an existential and unifying enemy, turned their attention more toward their own enrichment than the well being of the State. In his words, it transitioned from being a republic controlled by powerful oligarchs into a true oligarchy.

Sound familiar?

Jack Dorsey is weird to watch speak at any length. He always has a mealy-mouthed, noncommittal, future-based love for fairness, with some mealy mouthed, noncommittal justification for draconian speech control at present.

If it's not just a soundbite, and particularly if he takes any questions, he just repeats the same exact word-salad in slightly different order over and over again. Like a phony, disingenuous robot. And you very quickly realize that nothing he says make a lick of logical sense.

I can't dump twitter, I think I have an account, but I cant remember thing one about it, I could not get the hang of it when I signed on to follow Ace all those years ago but never closed out the acct. Maybe they close inactive accounts after X years, and hopefully advertisers give them no $ for non-active accts if that is not the case.

But they let Facebook run the: "We're not biased, we even have true conservatives like [some corporatist shill so hungry for a payday they'll do whatever we want without even being explicitly asked] doing our factchecking."

That's a great observation, and one that our side needs to hear. We were trained on a model that was woefully incomplete. Market forces break down completely when your side has captured the heights of academia, culture, banking, and the government. You don't have to serve the needs of the market, just perform in a way that pleases your masters. They will always keep you afloat as long as you are doing their bidding. We'll see that in action soon when the Fed Gov Death Star goes fully operational next week and starts blasting cash at every good little prog organization and state.

Microsoft made a lot of people early on millionaires that were poorly paid but got stock options as partial pay but as their growth in stock stalled due to growth issues, their best talent went elsewhere or Microsoft had to pay the market rate for it.

Facebook's and Twitter's halcyon growth days are over, they are now considered mature companies and you will see the competent leave for better opportunities due to stalled stock option values and the barely competent take over. If you have a business model that relies on either, best to start exit strategies now.

Same thing happened to Walmart as they flounder to meet new challenges. It will happen to Amazon--they are probably as powerful as they are ever going to be and ready to decline.
Basically, trying to run too many businesses under one roof through conglomeration means mediocrity and turf fighting internally. Intel for example is dead in the water as a result of this.

People are enemies. Dorsey, Zuckerberg, Gates, Bezos, et al. are enemies. Many (particularly smaller) corporations are run by friends (like Mike Lindell). 280 Drop in the bucket.
On January 4th:
- Facebook's market cap was $766.02 billion
- Twitter's market cap was $43.37 billion
- Their combined total was $809.39 billion

So an aggregate basis, this $51.2 billion decline amounts to around 6.33%. That's significant, but it is by no means cataclysmic. Add in to that the likelihood that most of the damage is now done (most people who quit have), and the continued erosion of user base is going to start tapering very soon if it hasn't already started. This is just share price, though. We'll see in a few quarters what effect this has on revenues.

Would you give up 6.33% of your net worth to destroy the Left? I would. These companies made that bet in the other direction. It might get to as high as 10% when all is said and done, but I doubt it even goes that high. The raw figures are staggering, but the proportions just aren't.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at January 14, 2021 01:38 PM (UZVEt)

281 115 One of the presumptions in pro-market ideology is that actors in the market will respond to monetary incentives - it cannot account for actors which are so large (monopolies) and market dominant that they can ignore substantial economic losses for non-business reasons. It's not "the market" at work here - it's really something else entirely.
-------
That is a good point. A monopoly, especially a State-granted or State-permitted one, can run on a loss for a while in order to profit from being the only game in town. Facebook & Twitter are acting like an ideological trust, banning users in order to create an ideological monopoly of their services, which are competitors for the #1 USA (and hence world) social media provider.

They are hurting--they took the hit to get OrangeManBad out but the problems are systemic for many of these. Sports is entertainment and make it unentertaining, you lose. As it becomes less of a thing due to divisiveness, it spirals downward and each move to solidify the remainder core pisses off the externals. In a major metro area, a lot of metro govts are on the hook for bond payments for shiny new stadiums. As they repudiate the debt, borrowing costs go up, leagues have less bargaining clout to get govt subsidies, and so on.

Most of the airlines are in a controlled monopoly but loosing buttloads of money. Doesn't take much to push them into bankruptcy again. Same for Marriott--lodging is taking a beating and pissing off prospective customers for virtue signalling might just tip them over the line.

Hard times for corporations means HR and virtue signallers will be dumped. Same as for the corporate oligarchs funding the cheating etc. Start to affect their legacy, the politicians and interest groups will be dumped. That is where the fight in the coalition of the left gets interesting. Corporate drones versus activist left.

There is a way for them to get EVERYTHING they need right now, although I don't know when it's gonna happen.

They're priming us for it.

It involves "someone doing something" and letting MAGA take the blame. They will have a patsy, likely with a social media history to back it up.

And if you think about the outcomes of this "something", it's perfect for them. Too perfect. It shuts everyone up forever, and restructures their hierarchy in the most beneficial way imaginable.

I don't even want to think about it. And yet I feel it's coming and we can't stop it.

I was a huge fan of the TV show growing up. I'll never forgive Laugh In, probably because they were the summer replacement for Man From UNCLE, but they never went away, and it never came back. . . . Man From UNCLE's mistake . . . was trying to get camp because of Batman. They tried to turn it around, but it was too late. Killed by the silly.

The movie was ok, but couldn't be that great because I don't remember jack shit. Except they tried to make Illya the star, which happened organically on the TV show. Well, his popularity anyway. The first 2 years in B&W were really cool. Thrush rocked, or more specifically, their infra-red rifles. 60's cool.
Posted by: clutch cargo - processed in a facility that may contain lead

I was 14 when the show ended -- low ratings killed it mid-season, in January of '68. Gunsmoke was too popular. Laugh-In took over its slot. Unfortunately there was only 1 B&W season, the first; gave the show almost a documentary feel. The movie captured the spirit for sure. Depressing to hear that Hammer is apparently a major weirdo.

Look... I get it. Beating the stuffing out of a Facebook soyboy would be a lot of fun, but also pointless and counterproductive, and I think most people know that... the guy might make 120K a year, but he's in SV, so he's basically hovering above the poverty-line and has as much real influence in this world as a janitor or waitress.

The people in these corporations who would actually be high-value targets don't wear the company gear except at corporate events. The directive comes from them, because they are projecting their own fear on to people who are likely in no danger.

That has the potential to seriously rend their business model, setting them back decades (which in the tech business might as well be all the way to the Middle Ages), back when they were a partial platform for familial correspondence.

Look for whatever Facebook competitors that arise to be targeted for cancelling to keep business and groups off of competitions to protect facebooks market value.

That will actually be HI - LAR - IOUS to watch these BLM/Antifa pawns line up to protect corporations and rich peoples money. While never even suspecting...."we're the fascists"

Posted by: mikethemoose at January 14, 2021 02:03 PM (Y6UV7)

463 OK, so Twitter and Facebook aren't going away anytime soon without robust replacements and for now I'm still keeping my accounts on both. Here's why and also that challenges that a replacement will have to face.

FACEBOOK: Facebook Marketplace has become the replacement to Craigslist. It's easier to use and is less sketchy. I've monetized it pretty well and it would be a pain to give it up. As least for me, there needs to be another widely used social media site with a market component. There are other markets like Letgo and Offerup, but they're not as popular with my major customer base.

TWITTER: I don't follow or care about political Twitter. I follow my daughter and make Dad jokes on some of her posts. I also follow the very local paper and read the Police Blotter and whatever other local news there is. Also IOWAHAWKBLOG, since he's a national treasure.

For GAB or whatever to succeed, they need a preference cascade large enough to draw non political people and local news reporting. I have a GAB and a Parlor, but never used them since they were kind of boring and I don't need to follow more political content.

The left wants you to do so. And even talking about doing stupid things really isn't great
We need some kind of organization, and then plans can be made. But going off half cocked? That's what they want.

And yeah the revolutionary war is a good example of this. Whoever fired the first shot for the Patriots in 1775 only did so after there was a whole organization designed to get liberty from the British that they were part of.

Which is fine. But the Cahokia Mounds site in IL, just across the river from St. Louis, has all these mounds that can't be explored, so you basically have a civilization that died out less than 200 years ago, and nobody really understands how or why, or who these people really were.

It wasn't even his idea. He stole it. The Winklevoss brothers had the idea for the site, and they hired Zuckerberg to write code for it. They had him sign a confidentiality agreement saying that he wouldn't blab their ideas for the site, which he violated. Zuckerberg lied to them for months that he was working on writing the codes for their site, when in fact he had stolen their ideas and was using his time setting up a competing site using their ideas.

Sure. Of course it would. But that cuts both ways. A National Divorce would inevitably end in a war. And both sides would be able to bring their A game when the bell rings.

I see the upshot to that as this: Having already dissolved into separate political entities, the victor can treat the vanquished as a conquered foreign enemy. With absolutely no mercy. No Reconstruction, no restoration to full citizenship, no legal rights except as dictated, etc.

That provides motivation to win.

Almost daily I post a variety of things that would help.
What are you viewing AoSHQ on? A phone? Change browsers, go to duck duck go's browser. Sadly, this blog is not what I'd call device friendly. It's just older tech.

You on windows?
There's one thing you can do that would make a world of difference. Modify your HOSTS file. Just install this, and watch your entire world of browsing change.

https://winhelp2002.mvps.org/

All you need to do is double click, and it will self install. IF for some reason you don't like what it did, go to your HOSTS folder, and empty it entirely of files (it has none default). I'd also highly recommend getting on a proper browser, NOT Chrome or Firefox. They block sites that don't measure up, and mess with others. Purely, accidental, I'm sure.

I was wondering, if one is not on Twitter, does that sort of immunize one from cancelling? I mean, if someone on Twitter picked out something I wrote and started trying to raise a Twitter mob against me, I literally wouldn't know, because I don't have the program on my computer. They could call for apologies all they want, I'd never hear them. I couldn't be intimidated by all their curses and threats, because they'd never reach me.

That provides motivation to win.

I'm not sure that a question phrased thusly would make it to the podium.

602 "I'd really like to hear from those self-identified "conservatives" in Conservative, Inc. who still think that corporations are our frenz."

Adam Smith laid it out in The Wealth of Nations, and Thomas Sowell says it directly in Basic Economics:
Capitalism is overall the best system, Capitalists are people.
But certain individuals have a vested interest in confusing the two.

603 Gateway Pundit has an article stating a New Jersey
gym owner that defied orders and stayed open had the government take out
$165,000 from his bank account.

That is how you make friends and influence people...

Banks are the next choke point and they have already started using them as a hammer. This news plus Signature Bank and Deutsche Bank "ending their relationship" with Trump plus HSBC telling its UK customers today that no mask wearing== your accounts being closed means that your money is in enemy hands if it is in a bank. Plan accordingly people.

605 How about we find ways to divest from some of these media companies. Like move the bulk of your 401k to small or medium cap funds. Apple, Microsoft, Twitter, Facebook are huuuge cap. If enough people did this they would notice.
Or is this just a wealthy person problem?

606 LMK when Ben Shapiro feels like taking up the courage of his convictions and deactivating his Twitter. Losers like us with no followers won't make waves the same way popular figures among conservatives with 2m+ followers can.

607 Yep, getting rid of their competition under the guise of stopping hate speech or incitement to violence, considering the filth liberal social media allow daily from the left.

609 Personally I would like to see the twitter and facebook stock values go down to zero as I now consider them to be utterly worthless.

A former sr administration official tells me President Trump has slew of pardons ready to go, as well as executive orders, plans to declassify Ukraine info and appoint special counsels on Hunter Biden and possibly Dominion voting machines as well. Unclear which he will do.
