Some Perspective

Lots of people doing the "oh look at me, those bad Trump supporters" posts now. Today was unacceptable. Absolutely.
But what just happened? The Mayor of DC ordered police to stand down and a handful of idiots entered the Capitol...

Just last night, a violent mob surrounded a Senators wife at home with their newborn baby. They tried to force themselves into the home. In the last four years, Congresspersons were shot at and Rand Paul and Steve Scalise were almost killed.
This year, whole cities were destroyed and cops were targeted and killed.
Today at the Capitol, a woman--unarmed--was shot and killed. Nobody cares, apparently.
If your outrage only flows in one direction, which is even true of many GOP people, you are not the solution.
Why are we drawing the line at office buildings where Congress works as opposed to people's homes and businesses?
Whole city blocks were destroyed this summer. Anyone who isn't equally incensed at both is not a patriot.
Also, nobody is going to change anyone’s mind. The "GOP people" blaming Trump have always hated Trump. People who like Trump will point to stuff from this summer.
Maybe the answer is a Conservative/Traditionalist party that actually reflects working people (the base).
I can say with absolute assurance that the current GOP ("yay corporate tax cuts and staying in Afghanistan another 5 years") does not reflect the base, let alone a good chunk of the country.

10 NB, have you heard even one single member of Congress defend the people occupying the building briefly in order to demand a redress of grievances, which has been denied through every other legal channel tried so far? Because I remember more than a few of them defending the Burn, Loot, Murder this summer, and some of them even tossed some coin to the bail funds of those arrested for such.

I have to assume that this was rhetorical. We all know the answer.

And it isn't even as straightforward as "because congressmen are there, and they're more important than the proles." In reality, it is "because deep state and Left/socialist official operators are there, and they're more important than anyone."

If Congress were split up and *only* the Republican side was breached, there would likely have been no response. It doesn't even matter that most official Republicans are aligned to the "correct" side - they're still expendable. I don't think the official Republicans realize that, though.

I see no indication from any quarter of the GOP that they intend anything other than BAU.

He wasn't perfect, but he went from private sector to White House for crying out loud. His greatest weakness, imo, was his 1950s viewpoint. He looked at government and military the way a child in the 50s did. Stars and Stripes forever. I pledge allegiance to the flag. Sparklers on the fourth of July. Shake the hand of a WW2 vet.

He knew they were corrupt, the swamp, but he couldnt get over his belief that, at the end of the day, people in power wanted to help America. He just thought they were too weak, stupid or slow to do it. He thought he'd go there as "boss" and lead us to glory.

Amazing how good he was. Imagine if he'd been given help.

He wasn't perfect but what's really sad is 75% of what made him great was just his willingness to keep the promises that got him elected in the first place. A few times he used his NYC negotiation skills to get shit done, but his real legacy will be that he was an honest politician, and that he exposed not only how rare such things are, but how vehemently hated they are by the rest of our "elected leaders."

Nor do I. To me, he's one of the good guys, and has been for almost two decades. I'm not going to toss a guy over the side who's been out in the public eye - not only that, but in academia - making his views known in hostile territory all that time. Besides, I don't see that he's moderated his views all that much; he's been fairly consistent as far as I recollect.

Regarding the other posters on the site, I'm fine with all of them as well - even the ones I disagree with. AoSHQ, Instapundit and Blind Gossip (with the occasional Althouse) are the only sites I get my daily news from, and I want to see as much diversity as I can stomach on a regular basis, and this list just about covers it.

In it he details the allegations levied in various areas of the state and the amount and type of testimony given regarding the allegations and the refute of those allegations. Who testified, etc. Bottom line, there was no widespread fraud in Michigan, there was human error, which the committee will continue to determine how to mitigate in future elections with new stronger laws. He reiterated in detail the five lawsuits brought from outside organized groups to sue the state pre election to challenge election laws and how they were all won in favor of the Republicans and no election laws were changed. The Republicans would welcome an outside forensic audit of the election to further find evidence of fraud and recommendations of how to eliminate it. They know residents wanted the electoral vote decertified but felt in good conscience they could not do it because of the lack of evidence of widespread fraud.

I read an article reporting that during Election Night 2016, Karen Pence was surprisingly sullen at the NY Hilton as the results came in. She was happy that Mike would be VP, but she made it clear that she wasn't happy about Trump - especially after the Access Hollywood dustup.

You are not familiar with Venezuela or other places such as California, etc. What resistance to policies (either passive or directly) by the central government was done by regional and local officials that were more responsive to people. As the scale goes down the degree of grifting opportunities lessen and so a choice of local officials do matter. For example, if by not voting, your new council puts a slum next to you or a medical marijuana store etc., defunds and removes the local police, jacks up your local property and sales taxes for "fairness" etc.

This is not something easily fixed by refusing to participate just as creating a new party from scratch is not easily done.

Most of the effective resistance to Obama's regime was local and state and that will continue to be the case here. Refusal to vote is simply making sure that NONE of your representatives having force over your life care about you.

His lawyers told him this, Trump's lawyers, tried to find some constitutional worm hole that would permit him to refuse to count electors from problem state. He chose to protect the VP office by counting the electors and then allowing the Senate to object and debate.

The internet bloggers came up with this "Mike Pence can stop the steal" crap and the Trump campaign lawyers tried to talk Pence into doing it. What Pence did yesterday , IMO, was constitutional and necessary. The fault lies in states that did not protect their election laws, and then sent Biden electors in spite of election problems.

Mike Pence is 61 years old, has been the VP, the Indiana governor and a US House Representative for two different districts in Indiana for 16 years. He was a radio talk show host pre politics. He likely has no future ambitions to campaign and try to win another office.

Yes I do, I look at voting unemotionally as a cost benefit analysis. As explained above, I live in a swing state and voting for local candidates at the county and city level saved me a bunch of bucks in potential tax increases and avoiding defunding the police and other such nonsense.

It took me all of 15 minutes to vote on my way to and from shopping and saved me and my wife bucks and compromises to my personal safety. Thus, the per hour rate for that would be astronomical for that 15 minutes. Refusing to vote really does not do anything, not even excuse you from jury summons--as they are required to use drivers licenses and utility bills to make sure that the jury pool represents the community.

The perfect is the enemy of the good and I cannot afford moral posturing given my situation.

This was a black security guard, who wad hiding behind a wall, with a heavily barricaded set of doors between him and the protestors. One person was trying to get through a window, which left him vulnerable if police just wanted to run up and grab him since it wasn't, but this guard just sort at the group which literally posed no threat to him. More over behind the people protesting were about half a dozen SWAT officers, so this idiot shot indiscriminately in the direction of the police.

I'm sure this guy will get thre chance to retire, full benefits and a plush job working for a Dem connected security company, when he was on video committing one of the worst acts of police excessive use of force, but if anyone protests that they'll be the ones seen as terrorist now.

I think it's a combination of several things. Mark's dad dying, Rush's cancer, and the election. I think he probably felt that trying to get a legislature to call for an article V when the election was coming would simply drown the effort. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't pick up the mantle again.
