Mark Levin's Moving from FaceBook to Parler

#DeathtoWokeTechMonopolists.

The follower count is key. Levin has 4.2 million followers on Parler, which is more than his 2.8 million on Twitter or 1.6 million on Facebook. While Twitter and Facebook have more accounts, Parler's users are highly engaged and responsive. To figures like Levin, engagement and monetization are of much greater importance than the raw number of accounts a platform reaches.

Levin's decision to migrate to Parler is perhaps Parler's biggest endorsement yet. Levin's radio show is among the top five most listened to broadcasts nationwide. He has a strong digital following with his radio show’s podcast and digital show on The Blaze. He also hosts a Sunday night show on Fox News -- Life, Liberty, and Levin -- which often leads cable news that day. His reach spreads across all forms of media.

Should President Donald Trump eventually join or move to Parler, the platform will no longer be ignored by the news outlets that cover Trump's every word, and Trump's news-making persona will not change once he leaves the White House.

It's amazing that Trump has refused to join Parler even as Twitter has censored him and deplatformed his allies.

One of the several things I don't like about Trump is his craving of status and prestige.

And he bases his understanding of prestige on vague Boomer Memories of institutions that were prestigious when he was in his 20s.

Why did he talk to archliberal Maggie Haberman for the first two years of his presidency? Because she works at the Times -- a (formerly) prestige outlet.

And he's stuck with Twitter because it's the established microblogging (monopoly) platform. Didn't matter that it was routinely censoring him and his allies. Gotta be on Twitter, that's the teenager microblogging platform of prestige.

Meanwhile, Twitter is absolutely murdering him. And he remains loyal to it, and continues giving the finger to an upstart ally, Parler -- because Parler doesn't have Twitter's "prestige."

Twitter's prestige. I'd laugh if it wasn't such a sick notion.

Trump has so many self-defeating, self-destructive tendencies. I hope no one will mind if I say I'm looking forward to seeing Trumpism -- without Trump.

I know that Josh Hawley has no childlike respect for Twitter's "prestige," and I'm pretty sure Ron DeSantis doesn't, either.

41 We have reached herd immunity in most places.

Not all, but most.

Earlier in the summer reports of antibody testing showed that there between 6 and 15 times infected for every positive test.

Well, Farrs law is in operation as most states peaked out in the last month and then dropped off - including Calizuela. Looking at total infected per hundred, North and South Dakota are close to 11-12 per hundred and Calizuela is close to 6 (but still climbing). ND and SD look like it has peaked out on total infected. I think that the evidence is there to show that this thing will be done without the vaccine by Jan or Feb.

As an addition. If there are 6-15 infections for every positive result, ND and SD would have 66-70 per 100 infected. Or more. Thus, in those two states they have reached herd immunity.

Calizuela may need another surge, but I bet LA is at herd immunity since that is where most of the positives come from. Nor Cal is still waiting foe the shoe to drop.

Just my thought based on the evidence.

He's typical of his generation - he's trying to apply 1980s thinking to 2020. And he is by no means alone.

Look - I'm not trying to gig the guy. Best president in my lifetime. Better than Reagan - and I don't think it's close. Maybe the most honest politician I've ever seen. His fatal flaw - looking at things in a Cold War way - kept him from seeing his true enemy. And his true enemy was Washington, DC. When you're running as a political outsider - you gotta' understand who your enemy is. Trump - frankly - still doesn't.

His insistence on schmoozing the former and indulging the latter (the ad nauseum "fake news" charge) in the face of their stark contempt for him is too much. People have high hopes for DeSantis being a Trump-like person but with less Trump-like personality traits.

a) I don't think Trumps personality traits are really all that negative, and in fact, I think his relentless self promotion is why he got where he did in life, and without it, none of us would have heard of Trump, nor would he ever come close to becoming president

and

2) I think DeSantis is like all politicians -- he is acting out a role, we have no idea what his real beliefs are, or what he'd be like as president. Trump is unique among politicians in that he doesn't seem to do any acting at all. He's the same person whether he's hosting a game show on TV, or president of the US.

105 Realistically, Trump was only ever a Boomer with good instincts. And his instinct led him to seize on the Immigration issue in 2016, the issue the rest of the GOP was paid handsomely to ignore.

But once he got in office the Establishment Squid took over and we got 4 years of mostly Establishment Republican policies. He cut taxes and disastrously let tens of thousands of violent criminals out of prison in a pathetic attempt to get the Media to stop calling him (and the GOP) racist.

Of course, the Media just doubled down on calling him a racist and a White Supremacist and a Nazi. And the tens of thousands of criminals he freed in 2018 proceeded to burn down a dozen cities and launch the biggest crime wave in American history in 2020. The murder rate in American cities has gone up almost 40% this year. The previous record was in the 60s at the start of the last big crime wave. It went up 10-15% one year then.

The GOP Establishment managed to neuter Trump's good instincts in office, so he had nothing left but his bad instincts -- like talking to New York Times reporters cause they're the "paper of record".

Anyhoo - Trumpism is just a euphamism for a phrase that used to get a couple COBs really, really agitated around here a few years ago. It's Nationalist Populism. Nothing more, and nothing less.

But what was said back then still holds true. First party that embraces Nationalist Populism wins EVERYTHING. How telling is it - that neither party wants to win everything with the formula just demonstrated by the guy that can't deliver a coherent speech, focus for very long, yet won this election by at least ten points ?

146 Harry, that's a key point - Trump's authenticity. It isn't 100%, but it's far far far greater than any other public figure.

It's one reason he's the only modern president to have constant, unbounded interaction with the press. Nobody in my lifetime did anything remotely like Trump's "helicopter pressers" - completely unscripted, almost daily quick press conferences in which anyone could ask about anything. No briefing books, very rarely any lawyerly answers.

Trump may be wrong on a few important issues, but he absolutely is genuine, and knows what he thinks. He is an actual executive and decision-maker.

This is one unearned, fortuitous gift to the country and the world that may be getting flushed down the toilet.

But by 2020 they knew how to respond. They had spent the last several years systematically suppressing his supporters on Social Media and reducing the reach of his media allies.

In 2015-2016, Trump's supporters could troll shitlib media and bombard them with insults and mockery. And that was really successful. That really shook a lot of shitlib media types, they'd never experienced that kind of in your face pushback.

But by 2020 if you did that you got banned. Shitlib media is now back in their cocoon and safe from much negative feedback. And the Right learned their lesson and fell back to less confrontational tactics because now the price of a successful troll was getting your account banned. Just like getting RT'd by Trump now means your account will probably get nuked.

Trump has so many self-defeating, self-destructive tendencies. I hope no one will mind if I say I'm looking forward to seeing Trumpism -- without Trump.

This is the same as when people wish President Trump didn't give the Fake News "so much ammunition."

The problem isn't with Trump.

161 bongino also mentioned an old sci-fi trope that's going to become reality shortly.

The Air Force has something called Project Thor that will deliver telephone pole sized tungsten rods from low Earth orbit at 7 x the speed o' sound to tangos on Earth with the kinetic energy of nuclear weapons but without the fallout.

They're called Rods from God.
Which would also be a great band name.

164 I do giggle at people that think Trump just "does" things based on personality quirks. Like Trump sits around on his phone in a room typing with one finger when he has free time. Everything released has a purpose whether us the public get it or not. Doesn't it strike anyone else as very telling that Trump is even president? I dont care how famous you are, people just don't suddenly wander into politics and beat both (or one, if you think the Uniparty chooses the candidates on both sides) party organizations. That should be your tip right there. That doesn't happen.

Trump becoming President and being who he is is an incredibly unlikely story, and it is unlikely to happen again any time soon.

To get to the position in politics where you can follow the "normal" path to becoming President requires a personality type that most of us would call "sociopathic."

You need to be, essentially, an actor 24/7 for your entire adult life. It's not possible for most of us. Most of us couldn't sit through fundraising dinners and speeches at nursing homes and pretending to want to hang out at small diners in NH with locals talking about shit we don't care about for years of our lives without either snapping or telling a potential voter "I just don't care, I'm sorry."

I just said no to a Glock17 G3 with 500 rounds of ammo for $1100 (ammo made it tempting). But, not a huge glock fan, and there's a gen5 for same price. CA we get to pay double msrp, especially the off-roster (decent non-handicapped) guns.

I'm picking up a Wilson Combat Beretta 92G Centurion next week, along with a CZ Scorpion EVO3 carbine. Super-duper excited, both off roster. Depending on the FFL, they'll block the magazine, so a proper 20 rounder will only shoot 10. Fuck Newsom, crazy assed mofo. Now all I need is 9mm ammo. It's possible there's some in this God-forsaken state, somewhere. 9mm, 38 special or .357 is all I need. Santa fell down on the job.

183 "The irony is, the Deep State could have played to Trump's vanity and gotten him to do most of what they wanted."---
I think this is true in broad strokes. Trump is a dealmaker -- if the Dems were willing to treat him as legitimate on day 1 and try to make deals with him, Trump's presidency would have been very different, I think.
The counter to this is that much of Trump A-list agenda had to do with international trade, and, due to the power of the Presidency, he would have accomplished this portion of the agenda regardless. Trump's stance on international trade (especially with China, but also with Europe and Canada) is anathema to the Dems, and might have proven to be a deal-killer to them on everything else, even without the Dems' attempted soft coup attempts.

A Jewish grandmother was watching her little grandson play on the beach when suddenly a YUGE wave came and swept the boy out toward the sea. She dropped to her knees and cried "please God, save my only grandson. I beg of you, bring him back!" Miraculously, another YUGE wave wave came and deposited the boy back on the shore completely unharmed. The Jewish grandmother hugged her grandson to her then looked up to Heaven and said... Reagan comes the closest. But he had powerful friends in Hollywood, like Frank Sinatra, who in their right mind in that town would go after Reagan and get Frank's mobsters mad at you?

Reagan didn't really upset any apple carts the way Trump has done. Trump is the only politician I've ever seen who actually delivered on his campaign promises, to the extent he could push them through the swamp.
His outrageousness is the only weapon he has, and I'm guessing he stays on twatter because you don't need to have an account yourself to see what other twats are saying.

I'm not giving gab or parler or any of those outfits my actual personal information. I have a FB that I've abandoned in place, I need to go in and delete it or whatever you do to make it gone.

I disagree. Nationalism implies empire building, and the US is not in that game. Populism implies finding someone to blame, and the conservatives are not in that game (although the media will tell you they blame immigrants, or brown people. Whatever.)

A big part of Trumpism is about standing against "progressivism." Sure, a lot of that overlaps with nativism, and nationalism, and it may be more populist than the shit that comes out of the "elite," but that is only because they are dead wrong.

I have more to say, but lately I know that when the grey box is full pixy starts getting pissed and will cut me off.

261 I was hoping Trump would move to Gab 3+ years ago. I'd think there would have been some "prestige" at completely destroying twatter in a matter of weeks. Which is exactly what a move like that would have done.

I'd think he'd groove on the fact that twatter lost more than half of its user base in a matter of weeks. Now, they've got too much power, in part due to him. And, he'd have helped the country by knee-capping the jerks. There were plenty of people asking him to do just that.

Parler is weird, it just doesn't seem as free and open as Gab. It's kind of echo-chambery. It sort of reminds me of whatever that conservative channel was that Levin started.

I'm sure Bongino is a good guy, but his ignoring Ron (@codemonkeyZ) concerns regarding potential hacks left a bad taste in my mouth as well. 265 Here's the thing: I think Trump fucked up a lot of stuff. But I don't think it was for any of the reasons ace or others are laying out.

I think he truly believed he could go in to Washington and steer the ship that is the US federal government.

When those of us who are a bit more cynical were saying, "dude, that ship is fucked. You need to fire everyone you possibly can, and just spend 8 years repealing as many shitty laws and executive orders as possible." but even then, we knew he'd hardly make a dent in the problem.

Trump was much more optimistic about getting people to see things from his point of view. He figured if he hired people, they'd do the job he hired them for, and do it well. Not that they'd actively work against him for 4 years (which they did.)

But that's a strategic mistake, not a personality or policy one.

293 I use Parler but tech-wise it kinda sucks. I know they can't just make a copy of Twitter but they should be able to speed it up and make it more user friendly. About 20 percent of the time it doesn't even load properly on a PC. As for Trump, maybe he doesn't even know about it, his advisors ain't all that.

301 My "WTF is 'Trumpism'" was not a shot at Trump, or at ace, or a suggestion there isn't such a thing (though I think 99.8% of all words/concepts with ending in "ism" are b.s., usually a lazy and incorrect generalization substituting for boring but meaningful detail).

Yes of course - borders, trade, "populist" (heh! there I go ...) defense of the "forgotten" people against larger forces.

All of it actually sincerely believed, all of it delivered straight, no ice or water, no circumlocution.

I still recall laughing - from a mixture of joy and disbelief, and mischievous enjoyment of the extraordinary - at Trump's inauguration speech. The most interesting and important inauguration speech in generations.

But Trump SEIZED the nomination, as a true outsider, with these issues - immigration lawlessness, trade disaster, corporatist domination of US governance. An amazing thing we're already habituated to. And now, he's close to being ejected by the "system" he seized control of. It's not just the unique package of political talent and sincere substantive merit. It's the odds against another black swan any time soon.

Twitter is obviously censoring pro-Trump, pro-America, pro-conservative comments. It's just wall to wall clearing out of anything that doesn't fit the Party Line.

Trump's comments are 100% ridicule, while obvious low IQ sold-out traitors get 100% fawning adulation. It's like 100,000 votes suddenly appearing at 3 am and they're 99.5% for Biden. You can just tell.

Every leader that's helped us has their limitations. Reagan flinched and accepted mass amnesty of illegals in return for a guarantee of a securing of the border that never happened.

Parler may have its own shortcomings. Nothing is perfect.

Trump did pretty well with the entire Establishment out to get him. More than anything, he exposed them and showed the problems we have as a nation can be fixed if there is a will to fix them, instead of an intention to make everything worse. That awareness is not going away.

No. Boring means too cautious, too eager to please the upper middle class bureaucrats and corporate mid-level managers. It means guys who are too submissive to their lefty wives. It also isn't going to fire up a crowd and get them to turn out.

Trump's skill wasn't simply picking the correct policies, it was selling those policies to a large portion of the country. He made people believe that he wanted better things for the USA and for them. He made it fun to be on team MAGA, to be in-your-face and proud of being an American and a Trump supporter.

Speed of sound at sea level is 340.3 meters per second and times seven is 2382 meters per second
kinetic energy in joules is half mass times vel squared = 21593989561 joules nuclear yield is often given in terajoules so: .02 TJ

380 I struggle to find much of importance that was negative and which involved any "self-defeating" Trump actions or personality traits.

Fiscal insanity. I think Trump genuinely doesn't agree, doesn't think fiscal policy is dangerous or can't be mitigated by growth (though he did go through the kabuki of fiscally more sane budget submissions).

I said from the outset that he had no choice but to undertake the daunting task of going to war with the GOP on the key issues that made him president. He didn't. Tactical call. But all the failures that stem from that (which are important) are GOP voters' fault, not Trump's.

But waiting to see a specific area of importance where failure/incomplete success had anything to do with any self-defeating tendencies. This was literally one guy, and a handful of advisers, against the universe.

But now you can't. If you fight with the Left you will get banned, but the Left can viciously insult the Right all day and nothing happens. So now it's training right-wingers to just take abuse. Cause that's the only way to stay on Twitter. The Left gets to viciously attack and dehumanize their enemies on Social Media, and the Right has to just take it or be banned.

426 Trump has the highest political integrity of any major public figure in recent history.

Political integrity = you mean what you say, and fight for what you promise and believe when in power.

He's literally in his own category on this.

Which has a value far beyond the substantive policies.

Two kill-shots for representative government: corrupt the election process (ahemmm), or .... have a trapped electorate, which can vote for X as promised by political candidates, only to have X never pursued or implemented (this is the GOP's kabuki on all key issues that everyone always rightly complains about, and which created the opening for Trump).

"Trumpism" is not a difficult concept. It's populist nationalism. It's got a huge, built-in appeal. And it could create a popular front party consisting of people from across our political spectrum, save for the Communists and their simpering GOP handmaidens.

Sucha party shouldn't sit there fucking around and quibbling over the silly, abstract minutiae of policymaking. That can be for the future. Now, it needs one, simple "us vs. them" message.

Are you for America and Americans? Or do you prefer Chinese money and Mexican sweat to your own home and people?

That's the defining question that needs to be answered, and the entire existing political establishment will give a full-throated endorsement of Chinese money and Mexican sweat, above America and Americans.

497 Another key thing about no Trump.

The vile and outrageous behavior, including crimes (the worst crimes - weaponizing govt. power for political ends) that were part of the antibody reaction to Trump (not his personality quirks, his policies and political integrity) - will not just go unpunished, but *rewarded*.

Cabinet members (even the useless ones not really implementing the voters' will) chased from restaurants. Presidential family members having their businesses persecuted for no reason. Attendees at your convention acceptance speech physically menaced and verbally attacked - a block from the WH.

And the FBI, DOJ, intel community crimes and abuses. F***ing conversations with other world leaders *leaked*. Impeachment trivialized, made into farce.

All this stuff you rightly railed about here, ace, likely to meet with zero consequences. "Normalized".

Personally, I think he shouldn't try to build a media empire to counter Fox et al. It would play too much into the left's caricature of him. My personal view is that he should focus on a big, splashy project that if successful would restore American prestige and demonstrate that he can get shit done, while embarrassing the Biden Admin. My vote is to fund a private manned mission to orbit the Moon by 2024. Get a team of young, hungry engineers, cut a deal with Musk for launch space, and build a Lunar capsule.

I still back him and will vote for him again, but Trump simply did not slash enough throats and hoist enough flags on some pretty big issues. More than the GOP? Yeah, but that's about as low a bar as one can set. Trump is what the public wanted, not the GOP. Forcing the media landscape to evolve was an essential part of the political process, and Trump missed. Just calling them out wasn't enough. We knew the problem, and just validating what we knew for four years was not enough. He needed to move the ball downfield.

Add to that, the blue collar voters in the rust belt that voted for Donald Trump do no like the GOP and certainly not GOP politicians - with good reason.

557 Totally disagree about why Trump is on Twitter. How would he prove to everyone's lying eyes the vast reach of Twitter's censorship and persecution of conservatives if he left - and all the rest of us left? Now we see every day what they do to his tweets. We see people he retweets getting the boot. We see how he's shadow banned. He's making it all too easy for the world to see. If they'll censor a president, they'll censor anyone. And our feckless congress can't insist that it isn't happening. Maybe eventually that will lead to some kind of consequences.
