She spends eight hours a day on Twitter railing at our homophobia and our control of her life.The Atlantic Therapist's advice is simple: It's the parents' fault for being so transphobic. And fatphobic.
[I] have a feeling that right now your children have a deep, unfulfilled need to be embraced and understood by their parents, and that's why they're angry. You know that both children are angry with you and your husband, but do you know why they have so much anger, and if so, how have you responded? For example, if your daughter says she feels that you try to control her life, or that you judge her for her sexual orientation, are you curious to learn more? Or do you defend yourself in a way that dismisses her complaints with something like "I'm not trying to control you--I'm trying to help you get your life on track" or "I'm not homophobic--I just think this is a reaction to what happened with your boyfriend and not really who you are'? Your daughter probably takes to Twitter to express her anger because she feels that when she goes directly to you, she isn't being heard. Similarly, your perception that you "say nothing of consequence" when you see your son yet "have a pleasant-enough time" might indicate that you aren't aware of how he's truly feeling either. With so much anger (on his part) and anxiety (on yours and your husband's) roiling beneath the surface, these interactions sound at best hollow and superficial, and at worst emotionally torturous. It comes down to misery, I think, yes. There isn't any real bigotry and they know it - so they have to invent it. The demand for bigotry (sexual, racial, whatever) far outstrips its supply.
It's an internal problem. A well-adjusted (as much as is possible) gay guy understands that he has made an abnormal lifestyle decision and has judged that, on balance, he is happier having made it. These people, though, are different. They've made abnormal lifestyle decisions and resent that they are abnormal. Their decisions need to be normalized to pull them out of their fugue states. Thus everything becomes bigotry and attacks against them - any mention or belief that they are abnormal cracks up their world view.

There is good stuff in the series, but in a way...I think Justified sorta peaked in Season 1.
After Season 1, Raylan gets worse and worse as a person and as a cop. The supporting characters get more interesting though, so there's that.

We bought a small breakfast and lunch restaurant for our daughter and son in law. It had only made the previous owner about $60,000 a year, but after owning it for 3 years, our daughter (with a ton of hard work) made $225,000 last year. So, here I am. Not exactly rich enough for private schools for my kids, so I work hard and my husband works REALLY hard and we scrimp and save to do it.
For a long time he was like "why are we doing this!??!" because he went to (excellent) public schools back in the day. I lived closed to Philly, mostly in Philly, so I went to Catholic and then private schools - you had to basically.

we realized looking around as our kids are getting ready to go to college that it was SO WORTH IT. many many MANY of my friends who have kids same age and sent them to either public school or non-religious private have trans kids now. it's INSANE. their kids all have mental illnesses, and are on meds. if you look at my kids, then theirs? I mean. hello Overtone and piercings. and the weight. that part I don't understand. it must be the meds. yes my kids play sports but I never did and I was a stick and not skinny fat either. 16 year olds in the main should not be so .... smooshy. it's scary stuff.
anyway - not only that but with the school closures wow. we are extremely pleased with our investment right now.
we always went against the grain of most people around here - and these are rich professionals in the Main Line area - and thank the LORD for it now. Thank God I am a natural contrarian!
all that money - my kids are normal and happy, even with the COvID garbage.

we have a little cabin and go up a lot. it's in a tiny town and it's like time stood still there. the kids all get on their bikes or on the ATVs depending on the time of year and they're OFF. we don't see them except here and there until dinner.
also the weird PRESSURE now. there are so many odd things. like college pressure. it makes no sense to me! parents are WAY too invested. I made my own college decisions my parents delegated that to me! I did that with my oldest but I am definitely the only parent I know who did that. so she's going local which was her choice and everyone looks down on that. whatever! its idiotic.

They play video games, talk about them, or react to movies or other completely useless bullshit. But, they're so narcissistic they think even taking a dump is a life-altering event and livestream it. Sadly, 2 million people are tuned in to watch close ups of the streaming steamer. 2 million people that vote (or will).

Remember, 1990 is 30 years ago, some of those people have 7-8 year old kids now. They've been trained well, and swallow every cultural "norm" thrown their way. Their parents in turn were the first helicopter parents and boomers. If I were to grow up now the way I grew up in the 60's, my parents would have lost custody of me to the state. There was no such thing as a latchkey kid. We were independent. That's the tell. Odd that their relationship with their parents is less than good. See they did it virtually all on their own. People really looking at their lives would go "Our parents sacrificed a lot to help us get where we are. However, we are concerned we may have helped our kids too much."
