A good reminder of a key dimension of the calamity of Trump being removed.
The massive, systemic corruption and criminality of key federal institutions will be ..... nearly completely unpunished. And unknown, to most of the country. Now many NPR listeners have the slightest familiarity with the facts of any of the scandals of the institutions that may about to be buried (and built on)? Posted by: garrett at December 02, 2020 04:45 PM (84H1w) I just thought of a fantastic idea for a Kevin Costner reboot. Posted by: BurtTC at December 02, 2020 04:47 PM (hku12) Wouldn't even have to recast much. Costner plays FBI chief Chris "Fey" Wray, Sean Young is Gina Haspell. There's a love triangle, with Bill Barr, and Haspell gets killed in an unfortunate bagpipes accident. He looks to frame someone, cooks up a plot involving a shootout over German servers, and unbeknownst to him, he's about to frame Wray for it, by trying to make it look like she was killed by a Russian mole. Little does he know, dun dun duuuuuuuuuunnnnn!! Wray IS a Russian mole!!! It was Wray all along!!!!!!!! So we can't get Hack Man to play Barr. Maybe Wilford Brimely? Yeah, I know Brimely's dead. Get 'im anyway. Posted by: BurtTC at December 02, 2020 04:57 PM (hku12) 116

Yeah, when I heard about the Durham special counsel thing, it added to the nausea, and raised an obvious issue: anybody think that a DOJ seized by the Dems will allow any real action? Recall - it's easy to forget, with Rosie as an example - that the DOJ oversees a SC. They can circumscribe or dictate as they see fit.
And there is Zero chance that a Durham special counsel would have Any informal/political leverage to protect it. Zero. Devin Nunes, Tom Cotton, Chip from TX, Hawley, maybe a handful of others, would rightly scream bloody murder if Durham were squelched, or dismissed. And you'd read about it on the Epoch Times website, or maybe an obscure Twitter feed. I'd imagine a brief mention in the "news", with the "topic" not lasting through one news cycle. And no, you're not shooting your way out of this. Posted by: rhomboid at December 02, 2020 04:58 PM (OTzUX) 123

By default, "the first assistant to the office" becomes the acting officer. The President may direct a person currently serving in a different Senate-confirmed position to serve as acting officer. The President can select a senior "officer or employee" of the same executive agency who is equivalent to a GS-15 or above on the federal pay scale, if that employee served in that agency for at least 90 days during the 365 days preceding the end of the previous Senate-confirmed officeholder's service. Biden would probably prefer someone other than Wray at FBI, so this is sort of Biden world egging Trump on to firing Wray. But Trump should still definitely fire Wray just as a matter of principle ... especially since letting Biden install an even more obvious Dem lackey than Wray would hopefully eventually convince more of the GOP to prefer dismantling of the FBI to the illusory "reform" of the FBI. Not like Wray is going to stand in the way of any Biden world plans for making the FBI into straight-up Dem partisan tool, since it already is exactly that under Wray anyways.

Huh? Vitamin D, vitamin C and zinc supplementation should be fine if your wife is nursing a baby. Look at the label of prenatal vitamins and I'd guess most of them have those components. There's lots of calcuim supplements that contain some magnesium, zinc, and vitamin D, which would also pose no danger to a baby.
Posted by: Eric Schmidt at December 02, 2020 05:13 PM (YkawN) It's not the vitamins per say.. it's the amounts. %'s get too high and it can cause problems or so we are told. I've brought it up, and I know she's talked to her doc about it. This isn't my area of expertise. Likey of a problem is low but I'm just worried about it... will know in a week or so I suppose. Huck, not commenting on the GA races per se, but no - almost all of Trump's accomplishments are based on inherent executive authority*, or otherwise not codified into law.
Regulatory relief (yuuuuge). Not aware Congress enabled or in any way endorsed any of it. Trade. Apart from USMCA, which might be too much trouble to attack, all of Trump's trade accomplishments have been from delegated/inherent authority. Environment/"climate" totalitarian scam: Oops. Not a thing that can't be reversed by January 21, 2021. Yeah yeah mechanically some things might take time to go through announcement/comment process and the like, but in terms of policy, not aware of anything of importance that isn't reversible, easily. Including re-entering the Paris Accords, which AFAIK were not a Senate-consent-based treaty, but an executive agreement. Taxes: yeah, everything was done in a reconciliation bill, so it's got 5/6 more years to run, unless Dems get both Houses. Social/etc: the glorious EO banning federal $ for racist indoctrination - gone by 1/21/21. End to outrageously unconstitutional kangaroo courts on campus - not sure, but barring successful lawsuits, I think those can come right back. Sovereignty/borders/immigration: catastrophe. Not aware of any important success that can't be vaporized at the stroke of a pen - and note that the utterly ridiculously lawless judiciary won't even think about hampering a new administration's exercise of what is in reality mostly plenary power, delegated in legislation by Congress over the last 100 years. I don't see $ being spent to tear down any new barriers, but body-English and policy rule, and BP will probably be right back where they were in 2016. Bilaterals with Mexico, Central American states likely gone, or simply ignored. Caravans, complete collapse of effort to stop fake "asylum" disaster. Foreign policy: disaster in every direction. Most consequentially of course with Iran, and China. Posted by: rhomboid at December 02, 2020 05:18 PM (OTzUX) 286

The Goal is General Secretary Stalin.
*** I think the goal varies by Dem/GOPer. Most want something like what Europe has - unaccountable elites that get rich doing whatever the hell they want with the appearance of representative government. Others want the Soviet Union under Khrushchev and a few under Stalin. They all have the goal of getting rid of Trump, but I presume things will get sporty quickly under a Tyrant Biden with the various factions feeling now is the time to settle things. The further left people have Antifa. The oligarchs have the deep state. Posted by: 18-1 at December 02, 2020 05:20 PM (qlFIA) 298

Posted by: Ted Torgerson Oh yes. I think that will def be the case. We won't be 'polite' any longer. Posted by: lizabth at December 02, 2020 05:09 PM (L3Rsz) I keep saying, part of the reason that they hate Trump is that he managed to figure out how to create an identity movement. The left has long done this: being progressive is an identity first, and then you adopt whatever politics are in vogue on that side. Trump managed to make MAGA and America First the same thing for conservatives, working class whites and hispanics, and others. People were unashamed of it, and in fact came to enjoy the rituals associated with it: the rallies, the guerilla-style campaign tactics, the tweaking leftist sensibilities. In many ways, this is a natural extension of the Tea Party. But whereas the Tea Party was focus on fiscal issues, Trump expanded it to include a lot more cultural and political issues. I am amazed at how naive Trump seemed to be over those he allowed to stay in the White House. Did he not know the type of people he was dealing with?
The next Republican President (if there is one) should pay heed to what happened here and fire every one they can from the previous administration if it was a Democrat one. Yes that causes a lot of problems and that's how bureaucracies manage to survive and continue their stranglehold but it has to be done. Look and see how much damage they were able to do. And most of them were not big time policy wonks and stuff. They were just the ordinary worker bees. Posted by: jakee308 at December 02, 2020 05:26 PM (8QMcq) 343

In all fairness - if you'll go back to 2016 post-election threads - you'll see that certain posters suggested this. You'll also see certain posters that said the impeachment would start immediately. You'll see that they were shouted down by the "Trust the GOP" crowd.

And yes, a lot of people here and across the conservative "movement" had a lot of excuses as to why that wouldn't work, or was a bad idea, or how Trump needed a team who "knows how to play the game." Which was incredibly frustrating, because only a few months earlier these same people were going on and on about the "uniparty" and "failure theater" and everything else. I remember watching the new AG in Arkansas- a VERY Republican state now - when the talk started about how corrupt the CGI was started.
Why? The CGI has a headquarters in NY and....Arkansas. So she could easily have gone after Hillary, and would have face no consequences at all in getting re-elected whatever the investigation found. And she did....nothing. Well - she did important things like investigating check kiting schemes and high interest pay day loan sharks. Was she bribed? Afraid? Just didn't care? Who knows. And that's the problem, just picking someone from the hinterlands is no guarantee of how they'll act when the rubber hits the road. What has been needed for 20+ years now is an organized structure for conservative politicians and activists. And we still don't have it. We just have the corrupt old GOPe. 329 At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Trump fucked up bigly.
From day one, he should have fired as many people as humanly possible (yes, I know union rules and whatnot make "non political employees" hard to fire) and gone out of his way to hire people that had: 1) no political connections to DC or national politics 2) non-ivy league educations and 3) were on board with his policy objectives. Why the hell couldn't the FBI director be a former police chief from a mid sized city in the middle of the country? or the AG some prosecutor from Wyoming? etc. etc. It was ridiculous that most of his hires were swamp creatures who due to their parents influences, got in to Harvard, and spent their entire life politicking in DC? Of COURSE they were going to do everything they could to undermine him at every opportunity. "Oh, but the Senate wouldn't confirm a police chief from Wichita, Kansas as FBI director!" Why not?! Force McConnell to leave the FBI director role unfilled then. I mean, cmon. This is ridiculous. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at December 02, 2020 05:23 PM (UPoLF) Building on your comment, Harry, the problem was that the Trump people did not have a list of appointees ready to go on Day 1. Whether conforming to the logic of "you're trapped, you MUST vote for the GOP to deny the Dems the Senate" or not, not saying anything either way, just again want to point out that most of the important things Trump accomplished are completely reversible without Congressional consent or support. So, once more, a "GOP Senate" is a purely defensive measure, but without specifying exactly what you're defending against, its value varies tremendously.
It can do nothing to block the eradication of most of Trump's accomplishments, as outlined in my wall of text comment above. And I didn't even get into the possibilities opened up by SCOTUS' latest executive order atrocity, in connection with DACA. Oh, Caesar, I don't think so. The Biden team already has a preliminary "first actions" memo out, and it includes EO'ing much of Trump's success away, immediately.
And I think you spectacularly under-estimate what the Biden team (he, of course, is literally irrelevant) can and will do. First of all, a "plan" can start as follows: * which EOs did Trump issue? Which major policy directives from the WH went out to the agencies we care about? * Cancel all of them. That appears to be the plan, so far. And I think these people have learned a bit from the bumbling, feckless Obama machine, which of course still caused enormous damage. Recall the very first EO? Closing Gitmo? With that unctous POS Greg Craig (who was unfailingly polite in personal interactions, of course) grinning over Obama's shoulder? Yeah, that was idiotic incompetence. I am positive that we won't be seeing any of that. And a Carter Administration specter, while horrifying to any serious common sense citizen, does not carry with it any likelihood of political repercussions, as happened then. Completely different electorate. Almost a completely different country. Posted by: rhomboid at December 02, 2020 05:50 PM (OTzUX) 443

Barrett, Alito Thomas and Gorsuch are all in charge of swing state pleading to SCOTUS. I don't see them ignoring the constitution and letting biden keep all the demonstrably illegal votes from the cities. This is Thomas big chance to fuk over the guy who fukked him over. He wouldn't be human. Secondly, the Frankfurt server connection was confirmed by Waldron (?) the ex mil cyber guy. How does Trump have enough foresight to get teh server, but not enough to use what's on it. They may still be working it or they may want to save it, but they definitely have it. I'd be shocked if Trump didn't have this or something better up his sleeve. All these hearings and press conferences are build up to get the population ready for the real shocking shit. I wouldn't be shocked if Barr was actually sandbagging the opposition. Also maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but the sounds of no dogs barking (like Hillary for example) is deafening. Trump should call a meeting in the WH SCIF where Durham presents all his investigations evidentiary documentation as well as other docs that have been requested by Congress and withheld by the DoJ and FBI. In the meeting are also Barr and DNI Ratcliffe.
Trump then moves the meeting to the Oval Office--leaving Ratcliffe and the documents in the SCIF. Unbeknownst to Barr and Durham, DNI Ratcliffe and Cohen-Watnick bring in a large team to review, unredact, and declassify the whole kaboodle. Trump drags the meeting with the DoJ seditionists out for several hours. At the close of the meeting, Trump rises, approaches Durham and tells him he's fired and takes his cell phone. Trump then turns to Barr and fires him, and keeps his cell phone as well. POTUS has them both walked out of the WH and left outside the gate. Meanwhile, Ratcliffe has arranged for reporters from the Epoch Times, The Federalist, and the Daily Caller to come to the WH and begin picking up tranches of the documents for immediate release to the public.
