Time's Up -- the #MeToo Organization Which Raised Money, Supposedly to Pay the Legal Expenses of Women Making Accusations -- Spent Almost No Money on Their Legal Fund But Spent a Lot of Money on Salaries for Themselves

You don't say.

You don't say. You don't say. You don't say. You don't say. You don't say. You don't say. You don't say. You don't say you don't say you don't say you don't say you don't say you don't say you don't say you don't say you don't say.

Time's Up, the anti-sexual harassment organization created by Hollywood celebrities in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, has spent big bucks on executive salaries but has skimped on helping actual victims, according to a new report.

The group raised an impressive $3,670,219 during its founding year of 2018, but spent $1,407,032 on salaries and just $312,001 on the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund for victims of sexual harassment, the New York Post reported, citing tax filings.

In addition, the group reportedly spent tens of thousands of dollars on advertising, and $940,328 on "legal" costs, with the bulk of that figure going to Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer, the multinational law firm.

Tina Tchen, who served as an assistant to former President Obama and chief of staff for Michelle Obama, is currently Time's Up president and chief executive officer. She is also co-founder of the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund.

She's also the corrupt apparatchik who dialed up Kim Foxx to let her know that, as a Friend of Michelle Obama's, she would sure appreciate it if Foxx went easy on Jussie Smollett for his criminal race hoax.

The charity-rating watchdog Charity Navigator has a rule of thumb that a good charity -- not a scam organization -- should spend 75% of its donations on its actual mission, and only 25% on administration and salaries.

Time's Up spent 38% of donations on salaries alone. That doesn't include their big-spending on travel for their pampered graft-queens.

Democrats have a saying to excuse their graft: "We're doing well by doing good." That is, we're doing financially well for ourselves by doing political good for... whoever they're supposedly helping these days.

Democrat politicians really supercharged their thirst for lucre under Clinton -- my, how large the Clintons lived -- and now again since the Obamas.

The grift must end.

All of the DC grifter class must be destroyed. The perpetual welfare queens sucking the teat off the generosity, and credulousness, of people outside the DC grifter class must be forced out of their sinecures and actually work for the living for once, just to get some sense of what life is like in non-DC-Welfare-Queen America.

From Time's Up to National Review to Heritage: The endless grift must end.

There is - but it's painful. Peaceful, but still too painful for the thought leaders and opinion shapers here to embrace. It starts with an acceptance that all things DC are our personal enemy. That would include all things Federal - including the military.

Like I said - it's still too painful for most here. But hear me out. I want you to consider how often Conservatives willingly contribute to this cause, or gladly comply with that edict, and constantly send their kids of to duty with a firm and hearty handshake, and do all the work necessary to keep this all running.

Now - what if that all stopped ? I'm not suggesting anyone revolt - that's too much for most. I'm not even suggesting anyone go on strike. But what if all our willful, and even enthusiastic, compliance to all this simply stopped on a dime ? What if we made the powers that be actually work a little damn bit to enforce our cooperation ?

I'm suggesting that the swamp can't be drained. But it'll dry up on its own if we'd just quit constantly watering it. It can't sustain itself - and it can't make us all irrigate it. Right now - we still line up to pump it full without being told. Every damn day.

We just calculate income differently for businesses vs. w2 income, regardless of the entities form.

For example, if you open "sniffybigtoe's bait and ammo emporium," and you make $150,000, you can still deduct your $125,000 or whatever in expenses, even if you're set up as a sole proprietorship (ie: no "business" paperwork with the state). I believe its on Schedule C of your 1040.

It's also why you're allowed to, in your individual capacity, deduct business expenses, even if you are a w2 or 1099 employee.

Plus I met Miss Vermont. I got to ring the bell with her a couple years in a row. Now this is a Christian charity and I am married... I didn't ring HER bell. They were both really good kids though.

Metoo started with some lady like 13-14 years ago and a hollyweird lawsuit IIRC. It mostly centered around hollyweird casting couch, but then a bunch of hollyweirds turned it around into a global movement - probably as deflection (Alyssa Milano?). I think that's where the irony that Weinstein was involved after all of that.

No doubt they hoped to drag republicans into it - and certainly did when they railroaded Roy Moore. But they'd just as easily turn a blind eye to creeps like Al Franken, who had actual photographic evidence against him.

Like every movement that starts as a grassroots effort, it gets hijacked by the left. Especially if sex, race or social status can be used as a wedge.

Like anything else involving money, rats come to feast on the grain.

The best advice I can give is to keep your spending as local as possible. You'll probably know the people involved, or know people who know them, and accountability is higher.

Mine is simpler.

Allow Lemon Laws to be applied to the universities.

College degrees were sold to teenagers via high pressure sales tactics that grossly misrepresented their utility and value. Why should that be allowed to stand unchallenged?

Since no repair can make the useless degrees usable, anyone who spent money on one (loaned or out of pocket) should be able to sue for damages.

Lawyers would be all over that like Hollywood on half-off day at Epstein Island. The endowments would be plundered and armies of surplus administrators and teachers of less-than-sounf subjects would get the boot. Many universities would go under.

The survivors would get an object lesson in good business practice that would stick with them for decades.

You guys are arguing semantics obviously. But on a real level "income" is an accounting term only, as you know. It's a number calculated according to GAAP. The real point is profit is either invested back into the business, used to fatten executive leaders comp, or handed over to shareholders. If it's one of the latter two categories, the money presumably gets taxed at the individual level.

But, no. The government dips its beak first, like the corrupt enterprise it is.

heh, well, that's one way of looking at it.

The IRS would say "we tax your profits, not your income either. You can deduct any legitimate business expense at the end of the year, as like a business can. (aka: your income is entirely profits).

Businesses just work on much thinner margins then you do (your margins are nearly 100%!). And we want to encourage commerce in this country, in any form, and the tax code reflects that."

But, yes, you are not wrong. Being a w2 employee has a lot of draw backs in how you can structure things.

But if you become super rich, you can forgo most of the w2 income and structure it so that you, too, can deduct your hair cuts, clothes, personal staff, private jet travel, etc. as business expenses. So you have that going for you.

If Canada ever decided to tax property, the Catholic Church would go bankrupt in Canada. Others would too, but them especially. They have beautiful, spacious sanctuaries all over downtown Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, etc that each have about five ancient parishioners who visit regularly.

246 Allow Lemon Laws to be applied to the universities.

As the results continued coming in that night, Trump eventually became a 7:1 favorite and crushing it in all the swing states... and then Fox News called AZ for Biden, at which point he said millions and millions of dollars suddenly flooded in for Biden, dropping Trump's odds and telling him that the fix was in and many in-the-know were profiting from it.

372 285 Student loans should be backed by the university's endowment. It should be part of the acceptance criteria of the school that, if the student wishes to obtain loan financing from a bank, the university will need to underwrite the student's prospective performance / future ability to repay the loan and issue a guarantee to the bank (with their endowment as collateral) that the loan will be repaid.

Endowments are given with strict guidelines as to what they can be used for. You can't simply underwrite student loans with them, there are myriad IRS regulations regarding the tax deductiblity and benefits of giving an endowment to a university( which , lets face it, that is why most endowment monies are given). The donor stipulates exactly what it is to be used for such as a new building, or an athletic facility or scholarships for transgender women seeking to become law students. The university can't ignore those stipulations, which is why so many univeristies have these major endowments despite having to lay off staff, borrow, etc.

That being said, the inflation rate for college is as high as it is because of the easy loans so something should change there, I'm also on board with the college being somewhat on the hook. That would be going forward though, if you took a loan.. you signed by the terms, you pay the loan.

Some old churches are sitting on prime real estate.
Posted by: rickb223 at December 02, 2020 04:35 PM (UYkjZ)

...

When all the church's income is taxed at corporate rates it's crushing, and yes the property tax stuff is also un-survivable for many churches.

There is no shortage of municipalities that are keeping churches out by not approving the tax-exempt status of their land when they apply. Just refusing to remove anything from the property tax rolls. Presto--no new churches in your area.

Pro choice, folks the day the left realizes their population goals (which to be fair is long in the future) there won't be a choice. The left sees women as sex objects, political pawns, and brood mares as necessary to forward their goals. It's just a current goal to reduce the global population. Conversely if they decide that population drop needs to be a bit more aggressive don't expect a "choice" about birth control or abortion.

Absolutely. Even the most sadistic inquisitor of olden days would balk at accusations that a number of rich Jews were secretly abducting and molesting children. They'd be incredibly worried that their congregations would go berserk and murder every single Hebrew they could find, as opposed to "merely" driving the population from the country.

Now the accusations of rape and murder may actually be softball. Mass blackmail of the political and business elite, which was the Epstein business model, is tantamount to seditious behavior, if not open treason when performed on behalf of a foreign influence.

Posted by: DFCtomm at December 02, 2020 04:39 PM (50gG9)

I've always thought myself more "old school" libertarian than anything else. I don't think it's my duty to support the innocent, gullible, or stupid. But its sure as shit not my place to rob them, either. I can outwork them. I can out-produce them. And I should out-earn them when I do. But flat ass taking from them is still theft. And that's still shit.

Now - knowing that life's been good to me so far - I don't mind throwing a few sheckles into the pot to help those innocent, gullible, and stupid folk that are trying to help themselves. And that doesn't get me extra social credit points or a cooler spot in Hell - I just choose to.

It irritates me - the constant bagging on Libertarians. And I get it - they've turned into the open borders and free pot party. But it wasn't always that way. And I'm still not.

423 Endowments are given with strict guidelines as to what they can be used for.
Posted by: Jen the original at December 02, 2020 04:38 PM (CGdWK)

But whenever the Government decides that those rules are Inconvenient, that can all go out the window. What we need is something along the lines of Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries, which was actually quite a popular move when he made it, since the religious organizations had come to control much of England's wealth. Their land and money holdings were the 100 Billion dollar endowments of their day.

Fun trivia as to how Henry VIII financed his reign - after the Dissolution of the Monasteries, Henry transferred all of their silver holdings to the Tower in London, which was also the location of the Royal Mint. (Silver was much more in use than Gold in those days, gold being just too scarce to be used much) It was recorded that it took the Royal Mint 12 YEARS to melt down all the silver they collected and turn it into coinage, and that was with 24 hour shifts!

the real point is that it's been done before.

454 Fact is, all that grift is borrowed. Congress figured out about 25 years ago that all that lucre could just be manufactured out of whole cloth. The grift will end only when it becomes too expensive to roll over. This will only happen when either (1) the Fed stops monetizing it and praying to God that the most regressive of all taxes (inflation) doesn't rip this country apart or (2) the rest of the world, including China, decides we're not a good credit risk anymore. That day is a long way away, and there's a whole lotta Lambos that are going to be needed for that 9am commute from Falls Church to K Street in the meantime.
