Re the elevator panel, you get weird stuff like that when only certain elevators are allowed to land at certain floors.
I remember at the Roybal building in downtown LA, there were elevators marked "to floors 2-9," "to floors 10-16," "to floors 17-21 and 28-29," and so forth and so on...
I guess it was a security thing. Never really figured it out.

UW Madison isn't tall, but it is old and as such they have just expanded over the years to the point where to get from patient rooms to X-Ray, chemo or similar you literally take an elevator to one floor, then have to navigate the hallways to a second elevator to get to then be able to access the department you need.
And if you need a different scan you then navigate a long hallway, and have to pick the right set of elevators as some only go to certain floors.
You know you have been inpatient too long when you start being able to navigate this maze.

They invented that for the Sears Tower - express elevators to get you close to the floor you want, and then a local elevator to get you to the actual floor that you want. (It means you can put multiple local elevators in a single elevator shaft.)

Some buildings Ive seen have a system where you enter the floor you want at the lobby and then elevators self organize by floor dynamically. Those are wicked cool.

I wonder if the action by some in the PA legislature today (the resolution to take back the power to send electors) doesn't give SCOTUS an "out" to make that their remedy to the situation.
That'd be ironic since it seems like PA wants SCOTUS to give them an "out" to take back the power to appoint electors.
It's a spineless circle jerk, but it works.
And if PA falls, I think Michigan will fall. They seem more spineless than PA but the chorus from voters will be too large for the GOP state house to ignore.

I wonder if the action by some in the PA legislature today (the
resolution to take back the power to send electors) doesn't give SCOTUS
an "out" to make that their remedy to the situation.
That'd be ironic since it seems like PA wants SCOTUS to give them an "out" to take back the power to appoint electors.
It's a spineless circle jerk, but it works.
And if PA falls, I think Michigan will fall. They seem more
spineless than PA but the chorus from voters will be too large for the
GOP state house to ignore.
Those two plus Wisconsin is the win. If not Michigan, then Georgia.

Not a huge fan of highrise office towers, or elevators, but I will ride on them. And in some cases, now, for security reasons, you cannot take the stairs from one floor to the next, unless you have a key.
Longest elevator ride I was ever on? Some 3300 feet, down in the cage at the now-closed Mattabi Mine at Sturgeon Lake, Ontario. Took a while.

Who are these perpetrators? Last month, we learned the name of two of them after they were killed, along with a third perpetrator, when they wrecked a stolen car during a high-speed pursuit:
Three people died when the vehicle they were in rolled as they attempted to flee from police in Minneapolis early Monday morning.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers saw the vehicle in the area of Dowling and Logan avenues at about 1:44 a.m. Officers recognized the vehicle as being a vehicle taken by force during a carjacking Sunday morning. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver drove away at a high rate of speed, according to police.
Police said the vehicle's three occupants died as a result of the crash. "I got a phone call at work at 4:00 a.m. this morning saying my son was gone," Thomas Wright said. His son Jamonte Welch, age 15, was inside the car, along with his nephew Demetrius Dobbins. "My son, my nephew, the other little buddy, they were not bad kids. They just needed a little guidance," he said.
In this particular case, the young perpetrators stole a car after punching a 72-year-old woman in the face: "They punched her and knocked her to the ground to get her purse. They took off in their car, got halfway down the alley, realized they had the keys to her car backed up and she was standing up by now they got back out, hopped in her car," said Theresa Schlee, who said her aunt's car is the one Minneapolis police were chasing through north Minneapolis early Monday morning, with three teenagers inside.

While I was waiting, my old dog had a bad seizure. I thought her heart was going to stop. She came out of it and I gave her a pain pill. Vet checked her our and said she seems healthy for her age. So will see how it goes.

So the top floor would be the penthouse, and we don't know if this businessman was the registered occupant and thus would have a special pass key that allows the elevator to go all the way up.
Or he could be and he is lending out his card to his mistress and thus goes to the highest floor he can ride and then hikes the remaining steps.

Not sure I agree with the interpretation. She extended the Emergency Preliminary Injunction, part of the basis of which is that there at least a reasonable chance of prevailing on the merits.
Hence, Respondents have not established that greater harm will result in providing emergency relief, than the harm suffered by the public due to the results of a purportedly unconstitutional election

I used to shop at that grocery store every week. The parking lot is very small and extremely crowded at that time of day since there is also a Walgreens right next to the grocery store. It would amaze me if the perps were able to make it out of the parking lot unobstructed, which leads me to wonder whether there were witnesses who had time to intervene and chose not to do so. I can't say that I would blame them. It still breaks my heart as that could have easily been me.

I was quite apolitical for a couple of years, although I noticed Trump was definitely exceeding my (admittedly low) expectations. Then the Kavanaugh thing happened and I was horrified, and I needed a place to vent. So I came back.

The last apartment building I lived in, the builder had wanted to put up a 24-story high rise, but the city told him no. He could only have ten floors. So, when it was built, they numbered the floors, starting with 24 at the top, down to 15 with two floors of parking garage. I lived on 17 and when I had friends visit, they would always marvel at how fast the elevator got to the 17th floor. I would have to explain that it was actually the fifth floor!

I was all for Cruz early on and wasn't quite sure what to think of the Golden Scalp Weasel (said with love, Sir, just in case you're lurking here) until the field cleared out a bit and I started hearing all the people and organizations who were coming out against him for no real reason and realized they all hated me too. I'd been just voting against the prog candidates for a long time and hadn't had anyone to really vote for until then. He's really done a great job for us deplorables.

How Trump would govern was an unknown. What was known was a lot of the stuff he did in previous years, from positions supported to some of the business stuff that, while legal, may be a bit on the shady side of feeling ethical.
So at the time NT wasn't necessarily completely insane.
Now after his record has been established pretending to be conservative and also pro-Bidet shows one to be brain dead.

I was for Cruz, too. He had stood up for our side consistently and was a target of hate of the left and I was angry that Trump just came on the scene, with no track record and people just jumped ship to him. (I now see that a lot of folks saw things I didn't.)
I actually didn't mind him at all, initially, and in fact, I thought his way of speaking his mind was refreshing. But then he said and did crazy things, like he tends to. Plus I really did think he was lying to us.
I never had TDS, I just thought, no way I'm voting for this guy, he isn't even close to conservative.
I still don't know if he's a "conservative" but he definitely has the right instincts, and he's universes better than the vast majority of "conservatives" we had in the past (politics and media).

I enjoyed Oprah... she is all charm and charisma that all women everywhere love. She was in love with Obama, and she got him elected. And she got many American women to fall in line. My mom voted Obama and Dems for the first time every. She didn't vote for him the second time because she hated Biden. I am sure she was charmed by the Romneys, as they seemed like lovely people.

Yeah I am not sure what "conservative" even means anymore give how many completely terrible in judgement and governing people have used it- like Mr. "Severely Conservative" Mittens. It has been so abused it can cover any and everything, and I am sure we all have one or two thing we think Trump isn't "conservative" on (spending, for example for me).
By and large he checks more boxes of what I want done than any president I can remember in my lifetime (only started paying attention during the disaster of Bush the Elder).

Sadly all the logic in the world can't help you reason with them when that's their response. Your son has resorted to calling you names, which often means he has no cognitive argument to counteract what you're saying. It's disheartening and wrong. But that's how it's probably going to be for a while. You can only love him and tell him so, and ask him not to discuss politics with you until you can both do so without it descending into name-calling and damaging your relationship, which you value more than any political issus.
Your idea of going to shooting practice is a marvelous reaction to that negativity. You will enjoy it and it's construtive. Good for you!

So, somehow someone knows I've built a new house and is trying to sell me shit.
I don't do smart phones, nor Google mail -- unless idiot Charter/Spectrum is scanning my emails. I'm thinking it's likely some data coming from county/govt sources. Or maybe data from the contractors themselves who put my name in some of their shit.

Originally, there were floors 5-27.
Changes were made, 13 more floors and a Car Park (or access to the upper level of the Car Park - hence CP2)
It was easier to stick the CP2 button where it is, for whatever reason, and move 5 over.
Then going from lowest to highest, the new buttons are 6, 28-40.
Yeah, a little hinky about moving 5, but that's what I got.

Government run schools need to go, and be seen as the massive overreach tha they are. That's one of the big takeaways from how we got here.
What parents thought was happening in schools and what was actually happening in schools started diverging wildly in the 90's. Of the kids I know who graduated around 2010, give or take - family, and friends of family - about a third of them went totally off the deep end.
They were really good kids, but if things get really stupid what happens, happens. At least I have the benefit of being the cool relative who always talked sense, while their ire is directed at their parents.
Most are not beyond the reach of reason, although I'm not in a hurry to stick out my household's neck for them. The real surprise, though - the hard cases are the ones who have kids. Child abuse is the new pinnacle of virtue signalling; those willing to do that to children are the least likely to do a 180.

I'm holding him to account, even though he isn't doing anything particularly challenging. I let him do his biology test open book. I let him rewrite all his one page essays. His dad is teaching him algebra, mostly by helping him with nearly every problem. But, he is doing it.
Why in hell do I pay an exorbitant amount to support a school system that isn't educating my son and couldn't be bothered to given an all clear from Chinese Lung Aids?
If we survive this year, he will at least have learned Western Civ, the entire Bible (selected parts, anyway), read Shakespeare, Dickens and Twain, and learned Algebra, Biology, World Geography, and improved his bowling skills. None of which would have happened in school.

I would offer up that this is something about the contemporary left you might not understand.
They don't dismiss reality when convenient. They have dismissed it entirely, and permanently. A bit more than a century on from "God is dead", we now have "nothing is real"
It's not a strawman process for them. They are right, because they are good, and you are wrong, and thus bad, for opposing them. Doesn't matter what their position is, or was yesterday, or will be tomorrow, there is only the One Truth that whatever it is they're on about at the moment is the way things are.
The middle ranks, the climbers, are in a perpetual struggle to advance themselves by being more visibly pious than their peers - or to tear them down. The top ranks compete with each other to lay down what the current prime grievance is, swaying followers to it and keeping them on their toes. But no one at the top actually believes any of it, as that's an impediment to effectively playing the game.
And both groups engage in a sort of all-encompassing taqiya: there are those in on it, so to speak, and then there is everyone else, the rubes who still don't understand this is Lord of the Flies meets epistemological Calvinball. There is no such thing as lying, there are only words of varying effectiveness to wield against those who don't understand what is going on.
This by the way is why the left and islam are both convinced they're using the other, but it's more complicated than that. Islam is sure the left is making a grave mistake in playing along, and many non-leftists agree. In reality, the left sees islam as inferior because it's tied to relatively fixed beliefs: being overrun by islam doesn't even budge their give-a-shit meter. Being in charge is being in charge, and they have no reason to think they'll have any less success bending a bunch of goat herders to their will.

I was part of two families' telephone calls on Thanksgiving Day.
The first, with my in-laws, was a crashing bore -- NFL games (yes, they're THOSE kind of fans), COVID, and "My, wasn't the election outcome great?" My wife's sister was the absolute worst, looking through photos on her phone and showing them, "Look, here's one of me and Rudy Giuliani when he wasn't crazy."
The second, with my own family, was a blast. I was the lone sibling who did not join them in the wilds of northern Michigan in a rented house so that four different households (woulda been five if I'd been there) could gather to celebrate the holiday. A lot of "EABOD, Gretch!" sentiments expressed and a lot of fun conversation and raucous laughter recalling old times.

It's got to be the public permit records or something. It's a bunch of lawyer shit, but the way this is going to be set up is the house and about 5 acres ( to satisfy some tax shit) is going to be in a separate trust, which will be under my control. A lawyer is setting this up, and hasn't completed it, so nothing has been filed.
All our land was put in a trust years ago for estate tax and general tax purposes. All I know is you pay lawyers a bunch of money to set this up so the govt can't get even more money out of you when somebody dies. :-) Lawyers become legislatures and set this up to make income for them to get around the laws they make.
For this new house, a 5-acre minimum piece of property had to be carved out and put in a separate trust -- this had something to do with the "homestead exemption" for county and state taxes.
None of that has been completed yet -- the lawyer will file it all this December.
So it has to be the permits and maybe something the contractor had to file.

yeah thats a shit job. I used to do a shit ton of guitar amp tweaking. there was a store in the dallas area of texas I would go to twice a year while I was there for the guitar shows. This store was huuuge. They sold resistors in bags of 100 for $3-5 a bag, and name brand. I used to spend $100 every time I was there. resisotrs, caps, diodes, pots, etc. I went silly on resistors every time I went there. I have a big parts organizer I keep them in, the one with all the little drawers. I knocked it over one night. It took hours to sort them. i was pissed.

Another benefit of these "trust" things is liability. It protects you from say someone suing the hell out of you for something and being able to get at your property.
This trust thing prevents that. We don't own the land, the trust does. But we control the trust. How it works, I don't know, but the lawyers do.

The trust documents are in a YUGE 3-ring binder. As it is, all the family land is in this one trust. When I built the new house on that land, it wouldn't qualify for the homestead exemption because there is already one homestead in the trust.
To get around that, a new, separate trust, under my sole control has to be established. I'll pay the existing trust $1 or something for the 5 acres to create the new trust.
Doing that correctly, to pass legal muster, requires paying someone who knows the incantations to put on paper.

I know what makes the old school stuff sound like it does, I get that people don't want to lose the character and tone, but running tubes in defective equipment is stupid. And expensive.
The original European and American tubes last far longer than the modern Chinese, Russian or Yugo tubes. Sonically they are fine. It's kind of analogous to good Sylvania light bulbs that lasted forever, versus the el-cheapo bulbs sold at the grocery store burning out in a week.

The fact is nobody reads these comment threads. Comments get posted at between one every ten seconds to one per second, all day long. No human being can read that much that fast.
