John Hopkins Study Concludes That Covid Had Almost No Impact on All-Cause Death Rates, But Is Immediately Deleted After Publication

Noting that the Emperor Has No Clothes is now a speechcrime.

Covid did kill people, yes. But the overall number of deaths remained constant through the pandemic.

Conventional wisdom is that COVID-19 has caused thousands of deaths in the United States and nearly 1.5 million worldwide. This perception has been directly challenged by a study published by Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, November 22.

Genevieve Briand, assistant program director of the Applied Economics master's degree program at Johns Hopkins University, critically analyzed the impact that COVID-19 had on U.S. deaths. According to her, the impact of COVID-19 on deaths in the United States can be fully understood by comparing it to the number of total deaths in the country.

According to study, "in contrast to most people’s assumptions, the number of deaths by COVID-19 is not alarming. In fact, it has relatively no effect on deaths in the United States."

Wait, what? Really?

That's what it says. And, it should come as no surprise that not long after the study was published it was deleted within days.

The article was censored, it was claimed, because it was being used to "spread misinformation," which is now of course the Censors' go-to justification for censorship, just barely edging past "hate speech" or "causes harm."

The author of the article which explained the study (that is, a scientist crunched the data, a reporter wrote it up) responded thusly:

Today, on November 27th, The News-Letter officially posted their reason for retracting the article, stating inaccuracies in the analysis. I am frustrated at the explanation, and I think it is disrespectful to Dr. Briand's hard work putting data together and doing an honest analysis. If her analysis was to be contradicted, then at least an equal-level analysis should be done to provide more data and thus a new conclusion. Dr. Briand and her work deserve such respect.

I have received many messages asking the reason for taking the article down, and so I would like to officially express my opinions here. I even got emails saying that thanks to me, people now will not be wearing masks or practicing social distancing. They called me "a COVID denier and a minimizer" and that I have no idea the damage and the lives cost in me writing such an article. I was devastated to receive such accusations, but I stand my ground. The goal is never to undermine the effects of COVID-19 but to suggest a possible over-exaggeration in death numbers due to the pandemic.

In addition, another study finds that lockdowns have no impact on covid death rates:

A new study published by Frontiers in Public Health concluded that neither lockdowns nor lockdown stringency were correlated with lower death rates.

Researchers analyzed data from 160 countries over the first 8 months of the pandemic, testing several factors--including demographics, public health, economy, politics, and environment--to determine how they are correlated with COVID-19 mortality.

"Stringency of the measures settled to fight pandemia, including lockdown, did not appear to be linked with death rate," the researchers said.

The researchers found that the criteria most associated with a high death rate was life expectancy, though higher COVID death rates were also observed in certain geographic regions.

In other Political Panic news:

Almost all covid-related news in the US is bad news, while in Europe, it's mixed. Both the good news and bad news are reported.

And this trend extends to allegedly "conservative" media-- because this isn't about The Science (TM).

It's about beating Trump.

Ninety one percent of stories by U.S. major media outlets are negative in tone versus fifty four percent for non-U.S. major sources and sixty five percent for scientific journals. The negativity of the U.S. major media is notable even in areas with positive scientific developments including school re-openings and vaccine trials. Media negativity is unresponsive to changing trends in new COVID-19 cases or the political leanings of the audience.

That last is an interesting point. It would be reasonable to assume that negative COVID coverage is part of the liberal media’s effort to drive President Trump from office, and to some degree I have no doubt that this is true. But "conservative" news outlets have shown more or less the same pessimistic bias...

Powerline blows that point off immediately, concluding that this must just be what Americans want.

It doesn't occur to them for one second to consider even the possibility that the "conservative" media has many shared agenda-items with the leftwing media. As well as a lot of shared Social Class DNA.

Another mayor ignored his own covid lockdown orders, this time in Canada.

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens broke COVID-19 regulations Wednesday last week when he dined at the Nico Taverna restaurant with seven other people at the table.

Just hours earlier, Dilkens was among mayors from the region who called for a "zero tolerance approach" when it comes to enforcement of COVID-19 regulations.

At the time, Windsor-Essex was under yellow "protect" status on Ontario's COVID-19 response framework -- and the maximum number of people allowed to be at a table together was six.

CBC News was made aware of the incident after it was sent a photo of the dinner group that was posted to Instagram.

After inquiries from CBC News, Dilkens made a statement to city council Monday afternoon. He called the incident an "unfortunate error on my part" that "should not have occurred."

Speaking of tyrants ignoring their own edicts: Axios' jackass "journalist" Dan Primack took time out to publicly call out a neighbor on Thanksgiving for daring to have guests over -- but was taken to task for having never once called out a politician ignoring lockdown orders.

Every moment that COVID policy measures have continued since about Easter has been an act of deliberate terrorism by the state/media complex against the people of this country.

The number of deaths through week 22 or 23 (I cant find the file now) were about the same for the last 7 years. I think the only real deviation was 2018 and deaths were down about 2.5%. Also 2015 was up about 150k deaths for that period.

Pretty sure more kids have died from choking on fucking hotdogs than died from COVID.

Posted by: fixerupper at November 30, 2020 01:22 PM (8XRCm)

44 Prior post, that puts this in a larger context:

There's reporting about how anyone who dies with a positive Covid test is treated as a Covid death, despite other causes. Hospitals get paid more for handling a Covid death. No other country does this.

There's a Johns Hopkins study that Covid is accelerating the deaths of the very old and the very sick, but these reported deaths are mirrored by a decline in other causes of reported death. It's only a timing difference, you see, typically only of a few months.

I'm not suggesting this is a good thing, but Covid isn't the Black Plague but we act like it is. And we've convinced people that getting Covid is a death sentence.

I tripped over this yesterday. The Bronx has had 4,100 Covid deaths, but zero last month.

Way back, I did rough math that with 200k deaths, each with a loss of 20 years of life, Covid would reduce our average life expectancy by 10 days. Turns out 20 years is way high, and the actual figure much less.

This is madness, no?

We were shutting down the country before the first death had occurred in a Seattle nursing home.

The response was based on the bullshit 2.5 million death model.

Which if anyone even for a second paused and contemplated that ridiculous number would have realized why that just so happens to be the total number of people who die in America annually.

Funny that that should be the number the computer models come up with.

This was a scam and op at inception and every month that goes by reveals with 100 percent certainty what people were screaming about 10 to 11 months ago was accurate.

Then when the FNM started reporting Biden leading in the polls it was "EVERYONE MUST TAKE OUT THE RUSHED OUT VACCINE WHEN IT READY NEXT YEAR!"

I agree, I was with you on the beginning like this. Now we are facing soviet level data manipulation with the deleting of stories like this Johns Hopkins article. This is evidence of why I doubt any good outcome of this election; sit back and think just how much they must already control to be able to impose a society wide information blackout like this! We talk about it here on the blog, but a large majority of this country will never hear about this, never talk about it, never know about it. They're pulling off the Great Reset, and this is evidence that their plans are succeeding. Who will stand up and challenge them in any officials capacity? Anyone?

88 I posted previously that I am convinced that mandatory mask wearing actually spread Covid more so than not wearing masks at all.

The repeated use of a mask as well as the prolonged time a single mask is worn creates a moist environment where any contact with the virus ( that the mask cannot block) will cause a strong build up of the virus. That in combination on how masks are handled by potentially infected people spread the virus on surfaces. ( same with gloves) .

People act like gloves and masks kill the virus on contact when it literally gives it a nice wet home to thrive and be spread.

93 The vaccine stuff is amusing.

For a while it was "we can't go back to normal without a vaccine and have to do everything to get one!"

Then the Russians came out with one mostly stolen from western labs and it was suddenly "no one should take a rushed out vaccine!"

Then when the FNM started reporting Biden leading in the polls it was "EVERYONE MUST TAKE OUT THE RUSHED OUT VACCINE WHEN IT READY NEXT YEAR!"

Then when people realized the polls were shit it was "I'm not taking a TRUMP vaccine!"

And now that they think Tyrant Biden will be installed it it back to "EVERYONE MUST TAKE OUT THE RUSHED OUT VACCINE WHEN IT READY NEXT YEAR!"

He thinks there *have* been a significant number of excess deaths in 2020, though the calculation is made difficult from the mildness of 2018-19 flu season [due to warm winter]. IIRC, the 2017-18 season was about +6% the recent average, while 2018-19 was -6%.

109 There's a Johns Hopkins study that Covid is accelerating the deaths of the very old and the very sick, but these reported deaths are mirrored by a decline in other causes of reported death. It's only a timing difference, you see, typically only of a few months.

Posted by: Ignoramus at November 30, 2020 01:22 PM (9TdxA)
++++++++++++
Yes, this. Another approach that shows this is to look at Social Security payouts this year vs. last by comparing month-to-month changes (you don't want to do year-to-year, as there's a COLA that makes things harder). There was some excess death among the danger population (the elderly, generally), as reflected through smaller than expected changes in Social Security spending - but it has disappeared and the curves are all normal again.

What COVID did was pull forward deaths by a bit and kill people sooner. It is extremely likely that most older folks who died of COVID at the beginning (when there *was* excess death) would probably be dead by now anyway. This is not meant to belittle the actions that were taken that accelerated the deaths of these people, or to imply that their untimely deaths don't matter because they weren't long for this world anyway - indeed, it puts the actions of people like Cuomo in an even *worse* light because they stole the final few months of life from people through their criminal and sickening behavior.

But there are lots of ways to demonstrate this, either with direct data (like Johns Hopkins apparently did), or through proxies that track the vulnerable population (such as Social Security). COVID very much appears to be a "last straw" condition as opposed to a primary killer.

For example, working with cats around is a real challenge. The clutter on my desk is very inviting to them, and the paper on which I have been jotting notes to myself, one of them tried to eat it. Literally.

I don't think I can use the excuse "the cat ate my homework."

Then they run around under the table, with cords dangling here and there. I don't have to worry about them chewing power cords, but I just about had two computers yanked onto the floor just now.

Stupid plandemic and its stupid consequences.

+++++++++++
Yes. His argument was that the specific cause of the suit on which the SCOTUS ruled - the Brooklyn Red Zone and the restrictions there - was no longer relevant as the Red Zone status had been downgraded prior to the ruling. As a result, according to Cuomo, the ruling has no validity because the underlying condition was no longer present.

But this strikes as me as saying that Brown v. Board of Education would have had no validity if Topeka had changed its policy prior to the ruling. That doesn't make sense. The government did it and it was wrong according to the SCOTUS. Just because the government walked it back prior to the ruling probably doesn't invalidate the ruling.

210 But this strikes as me as saying that Brown v. Board
of Education would have had no validity if Topeka had changed its
policy prior to the ruling. That doesn't make sense. The government did
it and it was wrong according to the SCOTUS. Just because the government
walked it back prior to the ruling probably doesn't invalidate the
ruling.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at November 30, 2020 01:37 PM (hYcqw)

It definitely doesn't invalidate the ruling. Remember, "Jane Row" had already given birth to the baby that SCOTUS said she had the right to murder and it did not make Row v. Wade moot.

225 Umm, I looked at the article, and it tells you one interesting thing.

That is, COVID does not seem to have much impacted the percentage distribution of deaths among age groups - what variations there are in the distribution seem like they could be seasonal, but that's a guess.

What it does not seem to have is information on the impact on TOTAL deaths - it's a stacked bar chart, where every bar is the same height, reaching 100%.

The number of deaths each bar represents is not given, that I saw - so if the first bar is the distribution of 50,000 deaths, and the last bar is the distribution of 20,000 deaths, then the death rate would have dropped dramatically. Or, vice versa.

There is a legend to identify age group colors that is labeled 'Total deaths per week:' - but which of the 32 weeks that is, is not indicated. Or is it the total across 32 weeks?

Either way, the article does not show anything about the death rate - up, down, or sideways - just the distribution.

Maybe the study itself has those numbers - comparing them year-to-year would be informative - but the article does not get into that.

I have a feeling the coach instructed her to do that because he KNEW sending her out there to do the full on kickoff would lead to ridicule and embarrassment for her, showing she should've never been put in that position in the first place.

I understand the team was wanting to put her in the position to kick a field goal or extra point, but their offense is so anemic, they never got close.

274 Vanderbilt Kicker Sarah Fuller Named The SEC Special Teams Player Of The Week After Kicking The Ball 30 Yards During A 41-0 Loss

Yeah, this really chapped my ass on Saturday.

BTW, watch her immediately move away from where the ball went on the off chance that they might make a play of it rather than just downing the ball on the 36 yard line. I imagine her orders were to run away from any chance of contact.

289 I've been around leftists a long time. They really *do* think the truth is dangerous. It's not an act. I don't think they're as scared of anything as much as they are the truth. Put it this way. They are more scared of the truth than they pretend to be about racism.

That is true of the smarter leftists. The rank and file really do believe the bullshit. It doesn't matter how many contradictory thoughts they have to hold in their head at the same time, they believe all of it.

Just listen to the execrable Tim Pool on any topic other than AntiFa or BLM. He will contradict himself many times while expressing a single thought. He literally believes whatever he's been indoctrinated to believe, no matter what.

What makes him noteworthy is the fact that SOMEHOW he managed to notice AntiFa and BLM are insane, and on that single topic, he managed to break out of his programmed loop.

I said it months ago - no matter who wins, masks are NEVER going away. And not just because our masters* demand it, not because every store requires it, but because the ruling class has found modern Americans' weakness - the whole "you're special!" assholery. Masks now come in all shapes and colors, with your favorite character, saying or snappy comeback pre-printed on the front. Just like people love to wear "funny T-shirts" with inane slogans, so people will love wearing "funny" masks with inane slogans.

*so long as they walk freely without fear of assault, they are our masters. Let's be honest.

What we are experiencing is an op and scam the sooner people start rising up the sooner this nightmare will be over.

When she got called out on yeah that didn't happen, she put up the replies with 2020 people and look how awful people are!

Then if you scrolled through, you came across these:

When there are more votes than people in a district, or percentages completely at odds with all other locations ... or any number of statistical proofs (several batches all producing the exact same percent for Biden, and votes counted as partial, e.g. .75 for each one vote) .. then that proves fraud.

The multiple steps to conceal the fraud AND enable the fraud ... invalidates the election. AND it was all done by Democrats, for Democrats. It only require judges and legislatures and ??? to do the right thing, in the face of the threats from their mafia.

EVERY fucking thing is misinformation - or potentially misinformation (the sun will rise tomorrow is about as certain as it gets, but because we are talking about the future, there has got to be *some* negligible chance the universe collapses on itself)...

There is now some dispute that gravity is a pulling force. This was a fact for our entire lives.

Point being, *everything* is disputed by someone. Or could be. And so... the only choice leftists eventually have to protect their "facts" is to silence and eventually get rid of anyone who disputes them.

"Misinformation" only appears on the surface to be about censorship, and political warfare. What it *really* is, is their excuse to determine who is dangerous. And I don't have to tell you what they do with the dangerous. Silencing is just Step 1.

408 Roth was a great front man/vocalist -- he wasn't a singer. However, he wasn't just yelling. He had great command of his vocalizations and put a lot of inflection into it. Contrast him with Vince Neil. No, wait, don't. Let's never mention V.N. again. Listen to "The Cradle Will Rock" - a GREAT Van Halen song. It's actually a pretty sophisticated song and that phrase "have you seen junior's grades?" is fantastic; only Roth could have done it properly. And, for the record, I hated DLR until I found out he's MOT and then, yeah, I paid attention to what he was doing. BTW, he's the reason Eddie didn't play more keyboards earlier - said it was stupid for a guitar hero to play keyboards.

It's not "Roth was the singer when you first heard VH" - I actually didn't like his singing when I first heard VH at the age of 11. The music is so much better. Note: I am also prefer Brian Johnson over Bon Scott though I love the Bon Scott-era stuff. Back in Black is the best-selling non-greatest hits rock album for one reason: Brian Johnson. Yeah, it might've gone platinum with Bon, but it would not have become what it is.

SCOTUS gets involved after the Circuit court rules.

Federal District Court is the first level. Then that decision gets appealed to the Circuit court for whatever that district is in. Then cert request to SCOTUS.

Right. The Van Hagar records were significantly poppier than 1984, in part because Eddie was in his "I'm the new Mozart on the piano" phase and in part because Eddie's ego wouldn't let Sammy Hagar fill that void (Hagar was himself a pretty good guitar player).

426 I'll read through the comments as I am interested in the statistics and numbers, but I did watch the presentation. And I have some problems with some of her conclusions.

To me, I think the conclusions are overstated. I think what she showed was that there is definitely a classification error. Due to that, heart disease deaths crashed and were probably counted as covid deaths. So the number of covid deaths is overstated, but the total number of excess deaths still remains. That's what gets me.

We're still over 100% of expected deaths whereas > 105% of expected deaths counts as an epidemic. If we back out the increase in suicides and violent crime deaths, where does our excess deaths sit? I'm trying to find this information, but can't find it. So it's still unknown to me.

434 I have a question about this. BTW, Her college career was over (she's used all four years of her eligibility) as the team's season ended earlier this month. But what if she wasn't on athletic scholarship for the soccer team. A write-up of her says that she rode the bench her first three years. No the kind of player they use a scholarship on. She was an honor student. Maybe she attended on academic scholarship? If that was the case, she could have been just a walk on.

OK so first

2020 grad year athletes were gifted an extra year of eligibility to use however they want to by the NCAA

this utterly fucked over the 2021 HS grad recruits (who weren't recruited, mostly, because the seniors will be coming BACK)

also most athletes even starters don't get money - it really depends on the school how they disburse money. they get a set amount per sport and they can spend as they wish. the top recruits might get full rides while the rest get nothing; some schools try to give each athlete a little something

that girl wasn't a starter until her senior year she wasn't that great of a soccer goalie at all. she MAY have been there to help with the team's GPA - that happens a lot. you need those super smart walk-ons to keep the average where the NCAA wants it to be

ok this is boring but anyway I know way too much about this. mostly it's a ripoff, the whole thing, for student athletes and parents - people have this perception that kids are getting scholarships when most do not

vandy is a joke as far as sports so they're not really pulling in expensive recruits - why would they? they have the teams for something something money making etc

"expected deaths" is also a bit of a trick/opinion/estimate.

So the number of deaths has gone up every year since 2008 in totals. I think by about the same amount as the population increased though.

In truth, this isn't a significant health event. I mean most of us know people or more properly know "of" people who got sick. But very few actual deaths, and those are in persons with other comorbidities. A healthy person, under 60 has a much greater chance of death on the highway year in year out. (This not an excuse to shut down the highways. Obviously.)

The whole damn thing is an op. China, mail in ballots, the election. Some assembly required, but easily accomplished by a pre teen.

yeah I'm not sure Bon Scott could have taken AC/DC where they needed to go, or basically where music was headed at that time. Back in Black was a much heavier sounding album. The first band I was ever in was during that time , and they did a lot of AC/DC songs. I remember us having to adjust and revamp the amps to get to that back in black sound. The guitar tones were more aggressive, and we were actually using the same amps they did during the bon scott era, but when back in black came out we had to up the gain some to nail that sound live. That was a pivotal moment in metal. Judas priest had the British Steel album, sabbath had Heaven and Hell, Iron Maiden was gaining traction, etc. AC/DC was also heading to a more heavy tone. Brian Johnson was definitely the right man for the time.

12 of Hagar's albums have achieved Gold or Platinum status in the United States, with a total of 25 Platinum certifications and four Gold certifications representing a total of 27 million shipments. Total US shipments are estimated to be well over 30 million. In Canada, Hagar's other main market for commercial success, only his Van Halen albums have achieved certification; 10 Platinum certifications and one Gold meaning a total of 840,000 shipments. Hagar's global sales surpass the 40 million mark, though his popularity is mostly centered in the United States.

platinum with Bon, but it would not have become what it is.

Posted by: SFGoth at November 30, 2020 02:01 PM (KAi1n)

yeah I'm not sure Bon Scott could have taken AC/DC where they needed to go, or basically where music was headed at that time.

3. Can expect deaths related to suicides and alcoholism and drug use to rise, but this will be somewhat lagging.

4. Can expect Cancer, heart disease deaths to rise in next few years as people will be late to diagnose.

5. Wild card - could deaths go down because less people in hospital to pick up an infection of some sort. If so, what does this really say about our healthcare system.

I suggest you watch one of Barnes' run downs on the process.

There are numerous steps.

The elections boards certify the results. At that point it becomes possible to contest. It's not over until the the process of the state certifying its 'electors' which is later step. That process *starts* on Dec 14.

He says the true drop dead date is Jan 6. And possibly even up until the inauguration.

Apparently we've had one in the past that was decided 48 hours before the inauguration.

609 585 The Vandy thing is disturbing because of the continuance of the lie that " females can do anything they set their mind to" ( her after game remarks). Just more if the bullshit that men and women are the same - the big lie of the left. Two questions, why should I now care about trannies in women's sports and what would have happened if she had been clocked on the play? Utter bullshit.

Well, interestingly the big push towards having girls in athletics and getting college slots (for women's sports I mean) has made a whole SLEW of females who know completely and utterly how much the males can outrun/outpace/outhit them.

Trust me. They figure this out around age 13 pretty damn fast! it pisses them off but it's a reality that they grasp.

So only people who never play sports would think "oh a girl can do whatever" athletically! and even 99 percent of them wouldn't think that.

the whole thing is garbage and utterly bogus. just more FUD for us to have to eat if we bother to watch the modern media.

615 Do any of you remember the Colorado Silver Bullets? It was a female baseball team in the '90s that was a publicity stunt by Coors Light. They sponsored the team, which was made up of fast pitch softball stars from the NCAA and Olympic teams, and had them tour around the country playing men's teams. At the time, my dad played in an old man (35 and over) baseball league, the Virginia Baseball Congress. The VBC put together a league all-star team and played the Silver Bullets and beat them something like 9-0, and this was a bunch of 35-50+ year old men who at most played college ball against women in their 20s who would be at their peak physical condition. I think there were maybe two guys on the team who had played any pro ball, at the low minor league level.

626 Glad you called out PowerLine's take on the COVID media study, which was "we're all sheep, because Trumpers like the bad news as much as anyone."
Yeah, sure. Pull the other one. "We're just giving the public what they want" is the line of every media corporate hack that wants to justify the sh*t they spew into people's homes.
Picture the Globe Theater in the reign of Elizabeth I. It's full. How many of the people in the audience are there because "Oh, it's Will Shakespeare and he's brilliant!" Sure, some were there because they liked his plays. But many were there because it was what was going on at the time and they needed something to do. Similarly, we consume what the media puts out because it's there, and we need something resembling information. We watch the news to find out what's happening, not to have what we know repeated back to us.
If I'm a sheep, I'm the one wandering Wal-Mart without a mask and waiting to be hauled off in an unmarked van. I'm the sheep who doesn't wear a mask at work and don't much care who notices. If people I work with don't like it, I social distance and if I have to meet with them I will don the Mark of Covid because it puts them at ease. No other reason. Masks are stupid.
I didn't take kindly to "Trump pretty much lost fair and square so far as you're concerned Prole" PowerLine calling me a sheep. Somebody stands up to these people and the would-be sheep-herders do what they can to destroy him. I've had enough but don't know what I should do.

629 There is a lot of misdirection going on with these figures. The US benefits from (mostly) not being a third world country, nor having massively socialized medicine - excess mortality figures in shittier places ran 3-4x the normal totals for weeks and was a pretty good sized blip - but finding a lack of measures that *reduced* additional fatalities is a separate issue from how many there were. It's just reinforcing the theater status of the lockdown theater, in that it was irrelevant. Media is full of crap, but so is the "it's all fake" crowd.

Majority of deaths are in nursing home where, despite bans on visitors, staff continued to introduce the virus. The percentage of facilities in the US that have not had outbreaks yet is in the single digits now, and we're going to end the year down about %10 of the ~1.6 million patient population we had in January. Many of those would have died in the next 1-3 years; what the outbreak did was stuff those all into a few weeks instead. Same age groups outside nursing homes were also hit, but far fewer of them caught it. There are still parts of the US that haven't really had it burn through yet.

There will be futures cycles of nursing home outbreaks, but I don't think we will have a repeat of the deaths owing to improved treatments.
