The one thing to remember is to make sure you let one hand dry first before you paint the other one. If you paint them at the same time the brush handle gets messy.

She pointed out we matched, and I laughed and said something about salmon and polka dots being the theme for the day. Our male coworkers all shook their heads, and one said, "I would have just said pink," and we explained to him that it was definitely salmon. The government is looking to do trillions more in stimulus and assume the debts of some cities. More dollars chasing fewer goods as lockdowns reduce productivity.

I don't think that's going to happen though bc we have utterly abandoned even the premise of ever paying off our national debt. The heathens who run our government have decided we shall have high debt and rock bottom interest rates, so shall it be. So long as the dollar remains the world's reserve currency, no problem. If that changes, major problem.

On the contrary equities are somewhat resilient to even hyperinflation, because they represent leveraged ownership of real assets. In the first year of hyperinflation in Venezuela the stock market only lost 20% in real terms(going up thousands of % in nominal terms) while debt became worthless.

it is all about timing. If you bought it at $500 fifteen years ago and sold a month or so ago around $2,000 then you compared well to the SP. No one should have only been in gold, but some have done well.
And no i am not pulling numbers out of my ass. But it has not been a bad investment over the years. In short periods some investments will do better than others.

One of my asshoe senior engineers set up a product delivery schedule with a CDRL on Monday. I told him when he did that eiht months ago that he was messing with his Thanksgiving holiday. He didn't listen.
I scheduled a technical deep dive of his modeling, his derived requirements, his metrics, and his input variables this afternoon at 3:30.

Gold over long periods tends not to do well. It has value as a trading instrument in a fashion similar to US treasuries without the same risk exposures. It tends to move inversely with the stock market during recessions, which is very useful, but is not a very strong inflation hedge. If you have it physically, you can try to flee the country with it.

Well sure investing in anything and if you time the short term peaks and valleys you can do well. But as a long term investment, gold has not been very good, relative to other options over the past 10-15 years. And the one thing people forget about when doing these comparisons is dividends. If you buy a SP500 or DJIA fund or SPDR, you get dividends that can be re-invested. That can be anywhere from 3-5% a year, that adds up over 15 years. Gold doesn't pay shit.

I considered the possibility that she wasn't resigning her seat because, if the Dems take the Senate, they're going to force through impeachment again, and want to make sure they have as many votes as possible. Still don't think they could turn enough of the GOP to get a conviction, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try.
But, yeah, I don't really think there's anything to read into her not resigning.

i love wearing them, i always have. But for me, after i reached 29, I feel better in pants. Just like when i put on manly footwear, I just feel different and bet others see that. I don't wear manly footwear that often though.

If you had bought at 500 you had your 3bagger in 2011. It's perfectly fine if you treat it as something you sell during recessions and then rotate into massively discounted stocks.

i don't buy that. Look at gold in 2005 to 2020. Sure it dropped recently. Some sold at the right time. But it went up three times over that period and it was very much in keeping with the SP unless I have my stats all screwed up. And if you picked specific company, it could have gone to shite for many reasons. Gold is pretty much what it is, it doesn't have extreme variables that can tank it like a CEO on the take.
Not saying buy gold, but people who say it has not worked are cherry picking dates. It has worked for people who were in for the haul or even got lucky. Kind of like stocks really.
Look, we all know that over the last 50 or so years you should have had it all in Philip Morris. Oh we don't? Well i wonder why that is? it is good but hard to find for some. Wild Turkey is just as good abut always there. The Bourbon market has become disfunctional in many ways as more and more are chasing the high end stuff. It is funny that the major distilleries keep coming out with high end stuff.
I could probably sell empty bottles of Pappy and others for more than a few hundred. And that is crazy when you think about it.

i have had all of them other than the 23. I have two empty bottles of the 20 year old and paid only $150 at a state controlled store. I could have made a mint selling them in NYC at Christmas but that is not my thing. i might sell the empties on ebay as they go for around $70.
I have also had several bottles of the Sazerac 18, that is more rare than the Pappy. I have some others from that collection and they are nice. But to be honest, people want them for the hunt and the hunt is what they care about.
I know go for Scotch mostly. It is expensive, but available. i see these guys waiting outside the store hoping to get a Blantons and I shrug. Blantons is good stuff, but for grown men to wait outside a store for the stuff must make the makers cry and laugh.

Related, somewhat: My brother was driving his son to school one winter morning and was out of windshield wiper fluid. So instead of going to Pep Boys to buy wiper fluid, he went to the liquor store to get cheap vodka. (my brother has an... interesting way of thinking.) So while testing the new "wiper fluid" he managed to spray it all over his son, who then had to go to school reeking of rotgut vodka.

As part of my get out of Calizuela Plan I worked out a spreadsheet showing state property taxes and income taxes and applied it to average homes in the areas I was interested in. I was shocked at Texas. And blown away by New Hampshire.
For supposedly freedom loving places, you are paying literally rent to the state to OWN your property (and I would put OWN in caps instead of quotes because pixy hates quotes from my browser).
1% is the max I would tolerate (and that is too much). Maybe that and a sales tax (since no one forces you to buy things). That would be a good liberty supporting tax system.
Income tax is theft and turns us into slaves of the state.

This , along with the idea that Trump is going to start a media company. He has a company currently that I'm sure has been brutalized during his presidency, especially the hotels during Covid 19. His buildings in NYC are struggling, as one can imagine. Remember the apartment owners in Trump tower that demanded the name Trump be removed from the building , the daily protests there, including ones participated in by the NYC mayor? I think he will have his hands full helping Eric, Ivanka, and Don Jr. resurrect it. He has a 14 year old son who has had to endure what no child of a president should endure through this presidency. Not to mention a wife who has been mocked, demonized, and lied about the entire time she has been first lady.
He would be 78 in 2024 and I can pretty much guarantee his family will NOT be behind him running again. Lara Trump said last year that none of them are planning to participate in politics when Trump's presidency was over, they all needed a break to have some kind of a normal life again.

I've lived in several states. And I've come to realize that all states tax about the same more or less **. The difference is the split between the 3 main taxes; sales, income, property. Some are high income, low sales, low property. Some are medium all 3, etc. But in the end the amount of $$ is the same.
** CA, NJ, IL being the exceptions which are batshit crazy.

But if you are paying more than $300, you are getting robbed. Well, not robbed, it is supply and demand. But the state run stores charge no more than $200 for a Pappy and less than a C not for Sazerac 18. Anything else you are paying is price inflation. of course you can pretty much not get them from state stores unless you win their lottery. Back in the day you got on a waiting list.
I would go for a really nice scotch for two bills and never look back.
there are good bourbons to be had not doubt there. If you find an Elijah Craig 18 year you will be doing well. And even Blantons is good if you just want to try good bourbon. But if you pay over $60, they are cheating you.

it is bloody awful. My state liquor store is selling it for .49 cents for a mini. And even then there are no takers. I get it has a history and many drank it in their teens, but the stuff is horrendous. The great thing about bourbon is there are good ones on the cheap. I have mentioned Wild Turkey and Elijah Craig. But even Evan Williams bottled in Bond is good compared to that.

agreed. I have only heard the best about their stuff. I have had a few but not more than that and only at a whiskey bar. I won't dissuade you from the Pappy as it is fun to hunt. But also try for the Eagle rare 17 and my personal favorite, the Sazerac 18. But if you are paying exhobinat prices, i would back off. You will get better Scotch for that price. The Bourbon craze is a thing now and the price inflation is crazy. I think Bourdain went off on Pappy and it sealed the deal. It is good, no question there. But it is in know way better than many $200 Scotch whiskys.

it does, but they don't want the moniker. They are peddling Tennessee whisky so they wont' use the term bourbon. They also add charcoal filtering of the spirit and that is called "the Lincoln County Process" It is a TN thing. Both major distilleries do it, both Jack Daniels and George Dickel. "One does it with hot spirit and the other does is with cold spirit. They will both tell ya why their way is the best, just ask them.
