The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Commenter "Blake" suggested a topic for a rant, and it is apropos to our current situation. So I "Binged" it: "Paul Ryan's Betrayal" got lots and lots of hits!

We all know the unfortunate litany of his failings. Here's a sample:

  • Failure to support perhaps the single most important issue of the 2016 campaign; building the wall and immigration
  • Losing the House in 2018
  • Not immediately endorsing Donald Trump when it became obvious that he was the nominee
  • Slow walking every bit of the Trump agenda
  • Dishonestly proclaiming himself a budget hawk, while doing nothing substantive
  • Publicly proclaiming his desire to work against the President as a Fox board member

Add to that list at your leisure, because it would be difficult to write a complete one in a single sitting. It is also hard to imagine a less successful Speaker of The House. What exactly did he do? Help pass the 2017 tax cuts? My neighbor's dog could have shepherded that bill through the House.

It's called "The People's House" for a good reason. The House of Representatives is the most local of our federal connections, and the founder's intent twas that it reflect, for better or worse, the desires of the American people. And the people spoke loudly and forcefully in 2016, but Ryan, in his infinite wisdom as a budding elitist and social-climbing prig decided that their voices would not be heard.

Instead, he threw barrier after barrier in front of the President, and clearly showed where his loyalties lay...his masters were and are corporate interests who are nominally Republican, not out of conviction, but out of a finely tuned venality that is often at odds with the greater good.

But what galls me the most is his cowardice. He wilted under the lights during the VP debate in 2012, and he similarly shrank from the responsibilities of his position as Speaker of The House. He could have led a resurgence of conservatism in America, and had he galvanized the representatives who were on the fence, we would probably have held the House.

Instead he ran with his tail between his legs to a cushy and well-paid position as a fluffer for the liberals at Fox. Unfortunately for American conservatives, that is where he is most at home, because his political philosophy begins and ends with his defense of his masters, who should have been the American People, but are obviously not.

Just like the rest of the State/Party/Press complex, CBD. There are only three groups of people in government:
1. The inner party (the Left and the deep state and most of the major media)
2. The outer party (most of the Republicans and middling Democrats and minor media and workaday bureaucrats)
3. The good guys who do their jobs (it would probably take more than your hands and feet to count them, but not by much)

Paul Ryan was group 1, but hid himself in group 2 by wearing is "R" badge.

59 What hurts the most is that from 2010 - 2012, I was sure he was the future of Conservative Republicans in the USA. What a betrayal, what he could have been - but he had no core beliefs and went for the easy money.

Reminds me of a man I knew locally and once worked for. He could have had a great political career, he had all the skills and backing needed, he had held some small offices. And then he wanted a little bit more money than he had (although he was far from poor) and he got himself caught up in a corporate grift for cash scheme. Oh, he escaped any indictments, but the stink of it was bad enough to send him out of any public arena forever.

And I always have thought, he threw away a public life that could have been great for what - just a few measly dollars? Really?

They were never supposed to be FOR us. They have their masters, and have been doing their masters' bidding the whole time.

There's a straight (pun intended) line through Paul Ryan's career. It only looks bent because people have awakened to the fundamental purpose of the Republican Party.

Likewise, when this douchebag SoS in Georgia says he's a stalwart Republican, doing his Christian duty... he means it!

this is not meant to be discouraging, just realistic - unless Georgia holds a special session and refuses to certify this vote, Biden is highly likely to assume the Office. Georgia is one of the most crucial keys to the whole mess.

And I say again, do not count in SCOTUS to save us, or any other court. They won't, they will find a reason to defer to the States. That is where the battles will be fought.

85 People seem to forget that Ryan never wanted the speaker job. When Boehner finally left to go get sober, no one wanted the job. Ryan was drafted and the drumbeat started. He was always going to retire out of the House and go do DC or whatever. He was literally arm twisted to accept the speakership.

He is what you get when someone doesn't want a job, but is willing to take it for the right price. The only thing Ryan wanted out of that speakership was his nerd l tax plan and he wanted his version of health care coverage, which John McCain managed to sabotage by siding with the Dems.

He had zero interest in supporting Trump. He said on day one of Trump's inauguration that Trump had zero idea how government worked and he wasn't going to help him. I get how everyone wants to pick a target to blame for the loss of the House and the failure to get things done, but it wasn't just Ryan. It was McCain, and the other long term graft seekers that jammed the gears.

Let it Burn!, LOLGF, etc. The American people just don't seem to care. Self-interest comes first. Virtue-signalling comes second. Being able to choose from 100 different colors for their I Phone case is third.

I want someone is of the service mentality in office, not the golddigger. The only way to do this is to limit how long they stay in a particular office (including their staff). You won't be able to do this at the national level though, it needs to be done on the state level for both state and federal elections.

Nice words Sax. What do you plan to do about it? Good question. I don't know. I don't like people enough to run for office, nor do I have the luxary of not working for a living. This is cancelled for this year due to Whitmer, but the actual train that was the model for the Polar Express is located in Owosso Michigan. it's called the Pere Marquette and is one of only a few working steam locomotives left in the US. The train normally runs fall color excursions and then in November/December it runs daily and nightly trips to the small village of Ashley that turns into the movie version of Vernon. Residence dress in costume , there are reindeer, Christmas trees and shopping, characters from the movie, etc. The kids get hot chocolate on the train and a bell. It normally sells out weeks in advance. This year, the railroad society that owns the train and other steam and railroad cars, has been shut down the entire year and is in desperate need of funds, as the trips are what fund all the restorations, etc.

Many people get involved in politics because they seek power. The left are the ruling class and power is their currency. If a Democrat fights and wins for the left they are rewarded, if they fight and lose they are also rewarded. There's no other game like that in town.

To be a Republican is to earn only pain and punishment to do what is right or hide your motives, engage in sabotage and subterfuge and be rewarded by the left with only a fraction of the power you would get from just being a leftist.

130 When Ryan was being put in power (replacing Boehner, right?) .. I recall some sort of demands he was making ... like "OK, but it is my way or the highway". He had some plan to reform retirement money ... extending the age and maybe more.

There are good reforms like that, but no one wins POTUS by claiming to reduce Medicare or SS ... or anything. But I doubt Ryan was ever so pure anyway ... as his move to Fox indicates, along with his other sellouts.

imo 2018 probably had the same election rigging in place as now, but less noticed. There was also the case of monetary tightening ... maybe that was indeed the tough love needed, but it sank the markets in time for the election ... conveniently.

Ryan and other apparatchiks fled before 2018 ... they either feared Trump reforms and maybe prosecutions (for crimes in which GOPe was complicit) .. or they foresaw other collapse coming, and wanted to retire comfortably instead of facing the cartel wars of DC. Ryan endorsed corrupt dementia patient Biden ... not America First Trump.

He's like John Roberts, it's one thing to deal with someone you already know is on the other side. But when someone turns his back on the positions he has staked out, well, that makes him a traitor to those who trusted him (even if it was only a little.)

How flagrantly counter-factual will they get? Can they even bring themselves to admit it, if it comes to that? I think they knew damned well he'd fight this blatantly obvious fraud, and are confident they have enough of the deck stacked to win anyway.

Whether that confidence is misplaced or not remains to be seen. But I really doubt that it is. This is a play too big, and too brutal, and too public to run unless you're *sure* you've got it locked up, and nobody's gonna do a thing to stop you.

196 But what galls me the most is his cowardice.

Yeah he's clearly a coward, a squirmy weasel.

But, now having seen him as Paul Ryan Unbound the last few years and looking back,

it's very clear that he's always been a far left Democrat mole, he did jack-diddly-do squat to promote any of the conservative agenda and sabotaged it when he could.

Galaxy Quest
is funny and well worth seeing. It would have made an interesting Trek movie, but Paramount would never have let it happen, and it might well have killed off the series.

I adore White Christmas. Years ago, a VHS luxury box version came out that included a reproduction of an early draft of the script which was very different from what ended up on screen.

I hate It's A Wonderful Life, but then again I have never been a fan of Frank Capra.

A good Christmas movie, IMO, is The Man Who Invented Christmas, which is about Dickens' travails in writing A Christmas Carol.

I have a script idea in which It's a Wonderful Life is actually a propaganda film created as part of a political contest between George Bailey and Potter.

Bailey has all sorts of moral failings and the propaganda film is designed to whitewash them--how he really did steal from the building and loan, fool around with Violet, etc.

Potter is in actuality a decent man, or maybe a very Trumpian character. The propaganda film of course vilifies him and smears all the positive effects of his success.

So the focus would be on Potter and how he struggles with an opponent who has the entire apparatus of the media at his back.

285 257 If the GOP were smart (I know, I know) they would have increased taxes on the 0.1% while giving everyone else a cut.

They kind of did, but it wasn't clear and the way the payroll thing worked, stupid people thought they didn't get a tax cut because their refunds were smaller.

__

The tax cut bill removed a deduction for really expensive houses that the elite were using. But they didn't sell it well and the way the refunds worked out confused people. It was basically them being idiots, again.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at November 19, 2020 11:47 AM (KZzsI)

__

The PR on the tax cuts was abysmal. As you say most people who paid less taxes thought they paid more. And the SALT cap, while great, was a horrible PR move as well.

I'm not talking remove a deduction on houses. I'm talking raise the top rate from 37% to 40% for, I don't know income above $50M a year. And emphasize that. Use the Dem's playbook. Say shit like with that extra money we can invest in education and infrastructure.

286 Maybe I'm underestimating Joe 6-Pack's ability to reason. But I think most don't associate a job with a corporate tax cut. They see their evil boss getting more money from Trump.

I don't see it as reasoning so much as employed versus unemployed.

When Joe is employed, corporate taxes aren't on his radar.

It's only when he's unemployed he cares.

good article, but I still disagree with the headline. The current crisis is due to massive Democrat fraud and a DeepState war to destroy the Republic

... it is not a response (fruit) of the left pushing conspiracy theories. (they were not conspiracy theories, they were a PsyOp using our own FBI and their assets to frame and remove Trump) The sedition (resistance) was not spreading theories that hurt Trump .... there was real obstruction, even Generals misleading Trump in order to run their own wars (e.g. "we lied to Trump about how many troops were still in Syria")

We are at war with a domestic enemy, which still runs much of our government ... at every level. Falsely calling Trump a Russian asset is a small fragment of the real coup.

Posted by: Puddin Head at November 19, 2020 11:50 AM (anrTJ)

Agree, but I want to go further with tax reform.

Instead of a flat tax, replace all (non tariff/import duty) taxes with a National Sales Tax.

Exempt staple foods, basic clothing, below-median housing, and utilities.

This form of taxation has a couple of strong points that really sell it to me.

1. It's more moral. Every form of taxation rests upon coercive force. This form is theoretically voluntary. You can opt out by sticking to life-necessities only. Realistically, does anybody have the will to do this for a long period of time? Probably not.

2. It will land most heavily on those with more disposable income to pay for luxury products by design.

3. The ability to hold a "tax strike" and starve the beast by holding boycotts.

Tariff and Duty laws would have to be adjusted to ensure that the ultra-wealthy don't just go abroad to buy supercars and mega-yachts without paying taxes, but that can be addressed separately.

But taxing them as punishment is dumb. It's thinking small. It won't work. And once again, it's giving the government more power, which is actually counterproductive.

My idea is predicated upon the existing order already being upended. But here it is: Once these people are no longer in absolute control of the system, when you can get away with it, put the job in the hands of the mob.

Letters of Marque and Reprisal. Put the most hated of the wealthy on The List - and let your oprichniki and other loyalists know these people no longer have any protection under the law, that their lives are forfeit, and that their wealth, their lands, and their women are up for grabs for whoever feels like doing the grabbing.

Nature will take its course.

355 Stop with this kind of stuff. This gives these people far more nobility than they deserve. It implies that are men looking out for the welfare of their families and are being blackmailed into making these decisions. They are not. They are backstabbing traitorous fucks and no blackmail material was needed to get them to stab us in the back. The only thing necessary was that their real masters of globalism and subjugating America might suffer a setback so they exposed their true colors to keep the crank turning in the proper way.

Embrace, as the cool kids say, the power of And.

A working theory on the sex kink stuff is that it's really NOT about blackmail, and that it's more about initiation to the club.

You arrive in Washington (or wherever, your corporate board room, the corporate media tower, tenured perfessership, etc), and you are offered an opportunity to be a big time player.

Do you go for it?

If so, here. Have this. This being whatever your kink is. Once you indulge, you don't have to be blackmailed, it's understood by you and everyone around you that you are a member. You would never DREAM of revealing my taste for underaged Thai ladybois, and I would never reveal the four cocks you worked at... wherever, Epstein Island, Davos, Bohemian Grove, wherever.

We just don't even speak of these things, because WE run things now. You, me, and everyone else in the club... and what's this??? DONALD TRUMP?????

What's that savage doing here!!!!

We must stab him til he's dead, and no one else who is not a member ever considers to dare invade our territory again.

The end.

Oh, and this story happens at Christmas, so put that on the list too.

Letters of Marque and Reprisal. You won't get a general revolution either way.

The conditions do not exist for family men to start shooting. As long as their families are eating, they have something to lose. When those guys have nothing to lose, its thunderdome.

The Dems will protest riot etc, but they know they can win at the ballot box at will - if they get away with it. If they don't they'll just block trump for another 4 years and then hit voting machines harder next time. Plus, there isn't another trump out there.

No civil war coming, unless somebody does something really really stupid like completely ruins peoples livelihoods/economy/savings.

That actually could be the game plan. I mean these nuts think the population of the world should be reduced to about 900 million. So, it'll take quite a few big wars, famines and plagues to accomplish that goal.
