Anger And Hatred Is No Basis From Which To Create A Political Philosophy, But The Left Sure Is Trying!

2016bycounty1.png

There is a visceral, irrational hatred that manifests itself among a certain kind of left-of-center American. We have all seen the videos of some inarticulate, sputtering maniac spouting furious talking points about how Trump is the Devil and Republicans will murder immigrants and take away your rights and force women into servitude and on and on and on.

It is on this continuum that are the people who burn buildings and riot and destroy, and it is because of them that I cannot put a Trump sign in my front yard or a conservative bumper sticker on my car.

They want us silenced, and to get their way are willing to violate the social compact and subvert the political philosophy that is the bedrock of this country's institutions.

They constantly threaten to leave, to destroy, to change; everything but what many (we will find out in a couple of weeks whether it is most) Americans really want, which is to live their lives in freedom, with the opportunity for success that isn't contingent upon government.

But what strikes me as most irrational, most untethered from reality, is their anger with and hatred for the typical American who just wants to live a good life with family and friends and perhaps his church, and not worry too much about what goes on in the halls of Congress and the Supreme Court and the state houses of America.

What is it about America that makes them seethe with rage? Why has our success, our unprecedented freedom -- both economic and civil -- made them envious of other political systems that control and manipulate and restrict their citizens?

It makes no sense, and I have become weary of trying to understand and engage and perhaps convince them that there is another way, that there is accommodation to be had with people whose political opinions are perfectly legitimate, but simply different.

Here is a reasonably conservative writer who seeks honest engagement with Bruce Springsteen; one of the most famous examples of exactly the sort of mindset that has made American political discourse a horrid, angry, ignorant mess. Dear Bruce Springsteen: Here Is My Letter to You is a mildly interesting exposition of the differences between the two men, but it carefully ignores the most important part: Bruce Springsteen's world view does not allow any other political philosophy. Because while Springsteen's words may not specifically foment violence and insurrection; the people he supports are perfectly happy to burn down cities to get their dystopia.

The writer is eloquent and accommodating and quite willing to find some middle ground, but we have arrived at a point in our history that suggests to me: "Why Bother?" Let Springsteen go to Australia (Bullshit. He will never leave America...it's far too great a life!) without trying to engage him in an honest political debate. Because there is no honesty in that debate. Our words are unacceptable to these people, and their goal is simple; to shut down political debate and change the greatest country in history into a sort of Euro-West.

Andrew Breitbart was correct.

Speaking of which, I'm one of the few exempted from wearing masks, I went shopping at a Sprouts, where the cashier clerk started shrieking at me to wear a mask or she wouldn't check out my items. I tried to explain my exemption, but she started blabbering about it being store policy, then called the manager and ran away.

The manager was MUCH nicer, I explained to her the reason for not wearing a mask, partly to raise awareness for my disability, and she finished checking out my items.

I wrote to Sprouts and told them for a woke company they could give two fucks about the disabled, and suggested lawyers that specialize in ADA lawsuits would be very interested to learn about their store policy and how it fucks over the disabled.

Fuckheads.

We can't be passive about this. As much as I hate having evil eyes on me while I shop maskless, somebody needs to stop accepting the premise that this is all about our safety and start challenging this bullshit.

13 Another canard of the left is they should have a right to tell red states how to live their lives because of how much "The blue states subsidize red states" --supposedly in how much $ they send to the federal government vs how much they get back.

Obviously any metric of who contributes what and who gets what back is subjective. I don't even know if the numbers add up by their own argument. And, if one argues that the primary contribution of the citizen to the Republic is in the form of military service, and sacrifice, I think the "red states" would be far, far in the credit vs the blues, especially in the past generation.

Philosophically, of course, there is no equating revenue collection/distribution with what should be the federalist structure of our constitution, or the individual liberties guaranteed by our Bill of Rights. But they really do think this way.

20 Repost from earlier today for those that were recovering from their MoMe hangovers.

Sunday Morning Math (sorry)

We had some discussion of Florida early voting last night, so I put together a spreadsheet based on the current early voting results.

Based on multiple polls early voting intentions are that 60% of Democrats, 30% of GOP, and 34% of Non Party Affiliated (NPA) plan to early vote in Florida.

I went back and looked at the 2016 results, growth in registration, and the shift in registration strength by each party.

In order to end up with the same results as 2016, each party should expect to see the following number of early votes:

Dem - 2,568,561
GOP - 1,317,634
NPA - 1,056,870

Current performance as of 10/25:
Dem - 2,290,670
GOP - 1,903,762
NPA - 1,030,518

Over/under performance:
Dem - (277,891)
GOP - 586,128
NPA - (26,352)

Conclusions: The Republicans are over a half million ahead of where they need to be on 11/2. This shows that some of that election day voting is getting in early and enthusiasm.

The Democrat lack of enthusiasm is showing, they are at about 90% of where they need to be to even eek out the same loss that Hillary had. They have 9 days to close this gap. It should be doable given they have this Sunday and next Sunday to get their voters to the polls.

But overall the Dems are not banking enough of a lead, and are lagging the GOP by 850K votes. They either need a big drop in GOP election day performance or a heavy vote from the NPA group.

These results do not say to me that there are enough Karens in Florida, that can't wait to get rid of OrangeManBad, to swing this for Biden

23 I'm with you CBD. We can't put anything even remotely right-leaning out in front of our house, or on our cars, we would be very sorry very quickly.

We fly an American flag in front of our house, and it has a light on it so that we can leave it up 24/7.

Used to be, the majority of the houses on the block would also fly the flag. Not any more, we have the only flag flying. US Flags have been replaced with BLM signs, and that goofy Creed the Athiest/Leftists have adopted (you know the one, "In this house, we believe Science is Real, Love is Love, blah blah blah")

We will sell this house someday, and leave this bankrupt state in which we live, but there are family ties, not to mention that j*b thing (you know the thing, c'mon man!) that can't be moved to a different location. We are here till we are no longer employed.

That Infamous Clinton Body Count? None of them needed killing. All those Arkancided, for nothing at all, because nobody's crimes were ever going to see justice, ever, regardless.

Maybe this is why there isn't a Biden Body Count. Or one named after any other criminal family in D.C. The rest of them must see how stupid the Clinton cabal was: nobody needs to die. Except Epstein, I suppose. And probably not even him. Because nobody is going to see justice anyway.

39 OT, but wanted to respont to AH Llloyed grand REALPOLITIK:
"Borders are never permanent.

Pretending that the 1945 Yalta conference was divinely inspired and its lines can never change is silly.

Yalta was result of a MAJOR WORLD WAR. Different reality now. Or are you propositn a war to shift some borders ?

In fact, Europe has already seen the lines move. Look at the Balkans.

That was a result of 1) A Cold War carried out for 50 years or so, civil war and a mini Revolution.

The Kalingrad Enclave is a source of vulnerability as much as an advantage, and the Art of the Deal is about highlighting the negative costs of keeping it with the positive gains of getting rid of it.

Why do we care about Kaliningrad ?

Russia doesn't need to worry about European invasion, it needs to worry about Central Asia and China.

Maybe, but they've ben dealing with them longer than we have. They always worry about them.

57 This post really resonates with me after an especially disturbing conversation with a friend I had several days ago.

I have never discussed politics with this woman, and I was OK with that. But she started steering our conversation in that direction. She told me she was tired of lockdowns, tired of BLM-type looting, tired of being told she was "privileged" in life, etc. Tells me how hard she works at her job. Then she says, "And then there's the election."

Naturally, I'm thinking we have common ground, right?

She then blurts out, "I have to vote for Biden, because Trump hurts the environment. And nothing is more important than that."

Rather than get agitated, I mentioned my own points about why I would not vote for him. She answers: I've never heard about any of those things.

Her final thought was something to the effect of, "Biden won't be running anything, anyway. It will be that woman. I can't remember her name."

This is a woman with a Master's degree. Who believes herself to be "informed" and intelligent.

I really need smarter friends.

64 Once you're out of the urban areas and start talking to folks like myself and my neighbors, the idea of impending civil war isn't even debated anymore, even among many of the normies. It's become a given, an absolute certainty. Most discussions of it are simply reflections on the "when" and "how" questions. It's simultaneously frightening, hilarious and gratifying - people who laughed and said "conspiracy theory" even just ten years ago, are now fully on board and preparing, and considering their options.

Perhaps the most disturbing comments have come from elderly people I know. To paraphrase one local graybeard: "I have COPD, I'm not getting better. If I'm still alive when it happens, I'll do whatever needs done to take a ton of them with me, and I mean whatever needs done."

The more I ruminate on this whole Civil War 2 thing, the more ludicrous it seems to me. Really, if the wheels come off and the cops run, it'll take about a squad sized element of semi trained people to stop one of these antifa/blm riots. Enough of those happen, the movement dies.

This whole drawing lines between suburbs/small towns/urban stuff ends when the SNAP cards run out and the urban dwellers realize that the infrastruture they burned down no longer provides them with electricity or running water. Eventually the agitators will be killed by some of the very mobs they lead who will be sick of this shit and want to go back to being a "normie."

Anyway, that's my take. It's worth about a shot of Valu-Rite Vodka.

88 St. Louis County shows up on the map as deep blue, and I think even that is misleading. Until very recently, St. Louis County skewed Republican, but as more and more people move out of the city, the county has turned blue.

Still, elections remain close, and it could... could go back. I assume it's deep blue from the last Prez election. I do think it's possible after a few weeks here, we're could see a map that has a lot more of those blue areas turned red.

The McCloskey's are from St. Louis county, aren't they? That couple being prosecuted for defending their property from a mob?

I would hope that might sway some sane voters to see they could be next, but I dunno, here in my equally blue county it's like people are wearing those masks over their eyes instead of their noses, none so blind as those who refuse to see.
Posted by: Boots at October 25, 2020 12:24 PM (oGBso)

No, they're actually in the city. The city is lost... in almost every way.

The county has wide swaths of areas that are solidly red, and indeed as far as Congressional districts go, there are two districts that take up most/all of the county. The first district is also comprised of most/all of the city, so that's going to be a Democrat district, now and forever.

The second district though is solidly Republican, and has been for quite some time. It added some territory the last time it was redistricted, and I think the Democrats were pissed with how the redistricting went, because they basically lost the extra seat in Missouri.

So while St. Louis County might... MIGHT swing for Biden this year, it's due to the... eh, shall we say, darker areas of North County.

90 According to the map, only 5 IL counties outside of the Chicago metro area orbit went blue in 2016: Rock Island (Quad City area adjacent to Iowa), Peoria (central IL), Champaign (eastern IL, home to University of IL), St. Clair (E. St. Louis), and Jackson (just south of there; home to Southern IL University).

In the case of Peoria Hillary won by less than 2%; not surprising, for a former blue collar bastion that's lost thousands of jobs in the past 30 years or so. Lack of enthusiasm for Biden among minorities and blue collar whites might put Peoria back in the red column this time around. Students being gone from the respective campuses might also make the vote closer in Champaign County and tilt Jackson County back potentially into the red column. Finally, a possible wild card in Rock Island County is the fact that its businesses have been competing with the much freer state of Iowa throughout the pandemic.

You may be surprised to know that the red counties include Sangamon -- home to the state capital of Springfield; the city itself is blue leaning but surrounding communities are red -- and Macon (Decatur, also a declining blue collar town).

I am still convinced that a longshot Trump upset is possible in IL if Biden gets less than 80% of the Chicago vote.

I once read an opinion that one might date the beginning of WWII not from Hitler's invasion of Poland but rather from violation of the Munich agreement by taking all of Czechoslovakia rather than taking only the Sudetenland because this act proved that you could not negotiate with Hitler because he would not keep his word. This is where we are with the Springsteen/Pelosi/Schumers of the world. We either admit their superiority such that neither law nor morality nor logic apply to them or we fight.

Incidentally, another interesting thing from Children of Nazis discussed last thread, both Himmler and Goering believed that after the death of Hitler, the Allies would make an accommodation with them. Himmler thought the Allies would allow Nazi Germany to continue to exist with himself as the new Fuehrer. Goering repeatedly wrote Eisenhower seeking clemency believing Eisenhower would believe his noble knights, brothers in arms crap. Reminiscent of Schumer's closed door double secret negotiation asking the evil Republicans to delay ACB's confirmation until after the election because, hey, we're all friends here.

1984 was an interesting year. People who imagined Orwell's book coming true were in for something very different.

The Reagan juggernaut was running at full steam, the Soviets were on their heels, and the dominant even of that summer was the Olympic games, which the Soviet Union was boycotting, due to Carter's boycott of the '80 Moscow games.

So the Americans were basically winning every frickin' thing at the Olympics, which were in Los Angeles, and here comes Brucie, trying to write a stinging rebuke of America.

People weren't stupid, not anywhere near as stupid as he thought they were, and they basically told Bruce to stick it in his ear, and turned his anti-American song into an anthem.

Personally I hated the song, but hey, that's just because my musical taste has ALWAYS been better than everyone else's.

179 Another point made to me earlier this morning on another blog: most of the blue state governors that rural/small town residents are ticked off at due to their strict lockdowns -- Pritzker, Whitmer, Newsome, Cuomo, Evers, etc. -- are elected in the midterm years and are not on the ballot this year. (Inslee in Washington is an exception, he is on the ballot this year.) Therefore, a vote for Trump is one effective way for conservatives to signal disapproval of them.

Another possible draw for conservative voters in IL this time is the so-called "Fair Tax" Amendment referendum to replace our flat percentage income tax with a "progressive" income-bracketed tax structure. Conservatives who, in past years, might have felt their POTUS vote would make no difference will likely turn out to vote the amendment down and end up voting for Trump while they're there.

1) They didn't arrive at their position because of facts but due to feelings
2) They then convince themselves they have studied the issue and there is nothing left to learn--97% of all scientists agree, etc.

The biggest lie told by the left--and accepted far too long by the right-- is that both sides want what's best, they just have different opinions on how to accomplish that.

I'll put it this way: Buckley won a few converts but he never won a battle.
Countless battles have been lost because of all the energy wasted on trying to pusuade-- not on winning.

Imagine if, the last 40 years, instead of ceding that the left was merely an honest difference of opinion, they were treated as the illegitimate communists bastard swine they really are?

.....The more I ruminate on this whole Civil War 2 thing, the more
ludicrous it seems to me. Really, if the wheels come off and the cops
run, it'll take about a squad sized element of semi trained people to
stop one of these antifa/blm riots. Enough of those happen, the
movement dies.....

A fair assessment, and I hope you're right. I just keep thinking about all those civilians who dressed up in their Sunday best and took picnic lunches to watch the First Battle of Bull Run, because they didn't want to miss seeing the war, which would certainly be over by the end of the day.

201 Blue states subsidizing red states is one of the biggest left wing lies out there.

First off 40 states are net takers and 10 states are net donors. So blue and red states are subsidized by a handful of states.

But if you look at how the numbers are calculated it's a straight up how much federal tax does a state pay vs how much money does the federal govt spend in the state. And what what does the govt spend money on the most? Military and infrastructure. What states have the most military bases? Red states. And it costs a fuckton more money per capita to build a highway in Wyoming than in New Jersey. Bigger open rural states cost a lot of money per mile per capita. That's why the really small states like CT, NJ and MA are "donor" states.

But you know what state is never on the "donor" list? California. Which is because it's a) a big state with a lot of rural areas and b) has a lot of military. But leftists never quite put 2 and 2 together.

233 Most discussions of it are simply reflections on the "when" and "how" questions.

****************

I imagine any civil war 2 scenario is going to be bizarre and chaotic. We had a more delineated map where it was north vs south in the past, but today we're more intertwined where the battle lines would be rural vs urban.

If were to bet, I would think the first act of secession would be Virginia counties merging with West Virginia, because I think that can be legally done.

Other acts of secession would be "illegal" because it requires the approval of the state legislature I believe. Colorado/California is one example, red counties that have expressed a desire to break away, but that has to be sanctioned by a blue state legislature, which will never approve it and will continue to harass and torment these red counties.

Texas and Alaska could be the first whole states that would break away because the secessionist movements are strongest in those states.

Then there's the whole question of whether these states can be completely self sufficient, or if they depend on resources from blue states. If so, how do they compensate? Do they declare war to seize assets in blue states, or try to work out new commerce agreements?

256 Never was a Springsteen fan, but the more I know about today's entertainers, the less enjoyment I can get from their work. I've mostly retreated to the past, watching pre-70s movies and TV shows. Those performers might have been lefties, but they didn't think they were evangelists who were ordained to bring the Good News of Mao or Lenin to the uncivilized.

Now I have to work hard not to find out what some modern performer thinks, because there's a 95% that it will be disgusting and insulting, and I'll have to remove them from the list of possible amusements.

I used to be a big Rifftrax fan, probably spent several thousand dollars at their site. Then Mike Nelson was targeted by SJWs for having a friend who said rude things about gays, and his co-workers ganged up on him until he apologized. It's not his collapse in the face of pressure that alienated me - not everyone is a hero - it was finding out what pieces of shit the other people at that place are. Bill Corbett is such a hater of Trump, God and common human decency, I decided it would be wrong to do anything to prevent his death by starvation, so I'll never buy one of their tracks again.

Posted by: Dr. Mabuse at October 25, 2020 01:02 PM (8akOE)

257 Greetings:

For me, it's sad that Bruce Springsteen continues to insist on broadcasting his politics. I grew uo in the Bronx of the '50s and '60s and suffered through the diaspora-white flight-ethnic cleansing of those times. My family lived in the same apartment house even after I left and until the dope and multicultural plagues made residency too much of a risk. My father was a truck drive in the local construction industry and, after my sister and I went off to high school, my mother worked as a court clerk.

I still believe that Mr. Springsteen had/has a rare artistic gift into the trials and tribulations of "working" class culture and experience and turning that gift into progressive polemics is more than a bit of a shame. From his artistic beginnings his music seemed more complex and stronger than most others of the time. But, these benighted days, it seems to be getting a little bit more difficult to listen to his earlier records as the earlier less emphasized politics seem a good deal more bothersome.

But, hey, what's a guy going to do ???

That movement in Hawaii is being entirely funded by Chy-na.

They would be "free" for as long as it would take for the Chy-na navy to show up and march them off to the camps.

I looked into this fairly extensively. And you all would be shocked to know the CCP is behind it, yet again. Much of the movement is fomenting an insurrection by the "locals" against the oppressors Haole who brought things like clean water, an economy, and stopping cannibalism. Well, I don't know if the Hawaiians ate long pork. But I digress.
The Confucius System embedded in Universities seeded a lot of this movement. I think it is fringe, but we saw BLM go from fringe to mainstream.

264 I teach (part time) at a local university. There are some good profs but it's been my experience the real teaching is done by the part-timers. We tend to blend theory with real world experience. Full time profs tend to teach their "facts" and worry about tenure.
Posted by: Diogenes at October 25, 2020 12:53 PM

Wayne State University in Detroit was the best place I could have gotten teaching certification when I did. All but two instructors worked as in schools or in the related job; e.g. a psychologist working with juveniles taught "Adolescent Psychology." Then I took continuing education classes elsewhere with professors whose school contacts were limited to consulting or workshopping. They were writing books and doing studies, though.

I ran into my former student at the grocery store and she found the same thing at WSU: her accounting instructors work in accounting, tax law, etc.

275 Another question that I'm having trouble answering for myself is this: if and when crazy Kamala/AOC faction Dems take over the WH and Congress again (whether that's next week, 4 years from now, or whenever), will current blue state residents be better off living in red states? Or will it no longer matter where you live?

On the one hand, I would think that deep red states, if they didn't attempt full secession, would actively resist or at least ignore federal policies that their residents weren't willing to accept (e.g. gun confiscation), thereby protecting them from the worst of the federal excesses.

On the other hand, given the pervasiveness of federal regulations, federal funding and federal courts, you might be screwed no matter where you live; if that's the case then why bother moving UNLESS it's to a red state that's going full secession?

278 We started losing this country when we, as a country, thought there was a middle ground between left and the Constitution.

Specific mechanism were put in place so the Constitution could be kept current with changes in the U.S.

However, the left was not satisfied with those mechanisms, because those mechanisms were put in place to reign them in.

So, naturally, they seduced the right into thinking compromise was possible and then started subverting the constitution.

Since he decided to wait till after the election ... imo he will continue to drag his feet and serve the bureaucracy that is his heritage, if Trump wins. (if his pretty talk is building to action but there are real reasons for delay, fine, but evidence of that is hidden)

This prohibition was lifted in 2012, when the SMMA was signed into law by President Obama, allowing the same propaganda disseminated by our government to foreign publics, to now be released in the U.S. for the very first time.

And yes, our government is also now allowed to create propaganda tailored specifically for U.S. public consumption, using any media as it sees fit, while remaining anonymous as the source of the material being reported."

Its quite easy to understand when you accept the fact that they want to be the ones controlling everyone and everything. They are tyrants. And they are determined to have their tyranny. They must have control to prove that they are superior. And you, yes YOU will be forced to accept their superiority and tyranny.

414 All I know is the only things pointing to a Biden victory are wildly inaccurate polls.

As anyone can tell you, the country is divided 50/50 among the voters in the electoral college. National polls don't mean shit. There aren't enough "undecideds" to matter. This is going to be an election totally based on turnout.

The beltway liberals think the entire country is as rabidly anti-Trump as they are. This lead to the thinking that people on the left will drag themselves through broken glass to vote against Trump.

Wrong.

If it rains, if dog needs to go to the groomer, if they're having a busy day, if anything happens, the vast majority of liberals will stay home.

Trump voters, on the other hand, are enthusiastic. We see proof of that every day with the rallies. For every person who goes to one, there are a thousand others that will brave whatever challenges are put in front of them and vote.

This is how elections are won. Enthusiastic voters.

Biden doesn't have any of those.

The MSM and the deep state are trying hard to make it seem Biden has already won, but the evidence just isn't there.

Maybe it made sense to try that two or three hundred years ago, but the last century should have disabused even the stupidest people about how totalitarianism works in practice. 491 One America News Network host Jack Posobiec tweeted Sunday that a source from the Department of Justice told the network that the FBI has dropped the investigation due to supposed concerns over the story from the repair shop owner.

Ken was the town bully, and a Very Bad Dude. The townsfolk finally had their fill of him in 1981, which was very bad for his health.

The events that day have been the subject of many a play and movies. The final scene in Roadhouse springs to mind.

We saw a very large (12'x8') Biden sign that had been defaced with the word LIAR across it in bright red paint. Both sides. I'm not thrilled with the defacement, but I've never seen a dem sign defaced, stolen, or run over. Not ever. It's always open season on Repub signs.

541 I live in St Charles, MO. Went driving through the city this morning and there were many more Biden signs than there were during 2016. Our congressional district is huge and stretches out to Trump-land to the west and north, it was something like 65-35 for Trump.

I think most of the Trump supporters around here just raise the stars and stripes like I do, but the area has been seeing a lot of urban flight (inbound from STL) and I worry a bit the percentage will be lower for this election.

There's a state amendment on the ballot to allow the Governor (R) more control over redistricting; I suspect they want to tweak these congressional districts around STL to ensure the D's have no swing districts that are even close.

MO will go to Trump safely, even though we voted for Obama twice.

"Artists," as they like to call themselves, believe one can not be "cool" if one is a conservative. "Cool" always means being edgy, and "edgy" can NEVER mean appreciating and conserving the "status quo" in anything to their way of thinking.

Making matters worse, people like Springsteen are incurious, as people tend to be when they are always convinced they are on the "right" side.

I'd lay big money Springsteen doesn't bother to read broadly or deeply.

He's incurious and so are those who buy the "Conservatives can't be good and liberals can."

The problem is wanting to be "cool" in the first place. It's always been overrated.
