FBI Claims That Six "Right Wing Militia" Members Plotted to Kidnap Hideous Governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer
Wait -- so right-wing militias are not "just an idea" and can be investigated, infiltrated, and prosecuted?
Their real crime was not being leftwing. If they were leftwing, their violent plots would be Protected Speech. So I'm going to call this Mostlyy Peaceful Plotting.The FBI says it thwarted what it described as a plot to violently overthrow the government and kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The alleged plot involved reaching out to members of a Michigan militia, according to a federal affidavit filed Thursday. The court filing also alleges the conspirators twice conducted surveillance at Whitmer's personal vacation home and discussed kidnapping her to a "secure location" in Wisconsin to stand "trial" for treason prior to the Nov. 3 election. "Several members talked about murdering 'tyrants' or 'taking' a sitting governor," an FBI agent wrote in the affidavit. "The group decided they needed to increase their numbers and encouraged each other to talk to their neighbors and spread their message."This sounds like real Criminal Vaporware bullshit to me. This sounds like loudmouths talking about a lot of shit that was never going to happen. Meanwhile, antifa and BLM plot arsons and assaults on cops every fucking day, and no one's prosecuting them.

Reading between the lines of the Zero Hedge report, it sounds like 10 - 12 guys in Michigan who didn't like Whitmer met up to gripe about her misrule, and also talked on email and text. One of them decided he didn't like the alpha of the group, so he called the FBI and got them to pay him $8600 to set all the other guys up. And one of them bought a Taser, so that proves it.

The FBI finds some loser on the internet, usually a young man with a low IQ or other mental issues, then "grooms" / "radicalizes" him, then gives him some role to play in a great plot to take down the great satan, then as soon as he takes a step in furtherance of the conspiracy (which, really, could be anything), they arrest him and claim a great victory in the war on terror.
Obviously, defense attorneys raise the entrapment defense, but, uh... thats really hard to prove. Basically you have to say "but for the FBI, my client would have never thought of becoming a terrorist" which... again, really hard to prove.

Simply discussing a crime is not necessarily criminal. Planning shows some elements of intent. But there is nothing here to suggest they would carry it out.
I don't know the specific statutes they were charged under. However the fact there was a CI adds another element. How did the FBI use that CI and what roll did he play? This is the FBI and they don't exactly have a great track record on that account.

Conspiracy varies a bit from state to state, but basically to be convicted of conspiracy, you need to be part of a conspiracy, and people in that conspiracy need to take a step in furtherance of the conspiracy.
So, lets say an FBI agent creates a plan to kidnap the governor with 5 other people. The other people don't repudiate it, but could say something like "ehh, something to think about" Then one of those people (could even be the FBI agent) acts in a way that a prosecutor could say was in furtherance of the plot.
All of those people involved are guilty of the crime of conspiracy to kidnap.
Well, except the undercover agent.
Kind of crazy and fucked up, and doesn't sound very believable does it?
They've done a version of that multiple times to muslim kids in the US. You know, to protect their funding, and show that they're "doing something."

Entrapment is a hard row to hoe for a defense lawyer. But, it depends on how much of the "persuasion" came from the CI and whether or not the CI wore a wire.
If the CI repeatedly insisted on tape for the other guys that they need to make a bomb, etc. and the other guys are yeah, whatever, and then proceed to griping about Whitmer, then a plausible case for entrapment might be made.
But, that assumes that the accused actually have any resources to spend on a trial--most of these types ensnared in such issues have a rusted out Ford Bronco from the 1970's, a crappy apartment or decaying rental home, etc. so they will get a public defender. In addition, charges will be piled on so high and so deep that the rational thing for the defense attorney to do is plead guilty on one charge to prevent trial risk of being buried alive in federal prison for the rest of their lives.

This claim is actually the "Tell" that this is a setup. Notice how none of the charges made relate to this? And yet this was the justification for the entire operation. Even the FBI is admitting that this "targeting police" stuff was just stupid talk that they never did anything about.
Since the FBI had so much info about times and targets, what they should have done to have truly proved their case was to put them under full time surveillance, as well as have someone watching the vacation home, and then bust them as soon as they made a move to carry out the plan. With forewarning like that, Whitman would never have been in any danger and the case could have been proven completely.
But the FBI went with arrests today because they wanted the Headlines a whole lot more than they wanted the Proof.

I don't know how seriously to take her. Everything she claims sounds very plausible, and it fits a lot of the facts that we know, but it could just be her fever fantasies and anger at the Chicoms.
I mean, its not unreasonable to believe that a special lab in a tyrannical communist dictatorship is churning out bioweapons to unleash on the world every few years (the last, what, ten major diseases have been traced back to China?). Its not unreasonable to assume that if one were doing so, then you'd fake up an origin of it so you don't get the blame.
Is that what happened? I doubt we'll ever know. Even if some day Vernona papers come out about the Chinese government, they'll be carefully redacted and controlled so we don't get the whole story.

It's a way for them to pay informants without actually paying them. It looks worse in court if the governments big witness is a loser who is getting a pay check from the FBI. If they're just "reimbursing expenses," then it looks less bad.

They reached out to a militia in Michigan at one point, where they came in to contact with a militiaman who also happens to be an FBI informant (small world) who, apparently unaware that the group who contacted him also had their own FBI informant, alerted the FBI to the other group of guys.
According to the FBI, the group that was indicted here met on social media, met a few times in person, went to a 2A rally together, and did some "training" with the aforementioned militia, which sounds mostly like shooting guns and drinking beer.

It was mentioned earlier today, but the reason Rasmussen (who we usually trust to at least try to do a real poll) is getting his current Biden +8 results is because he is showing Trump only getting 76% Republican support.
If 25% of Republicans were voting for Biden, then there is no need for all these insane theatrics. They just stop negotiating with Trump, claim they are holding the moral high ground, and coast into Nov 3rd for the win.
Doing things like this are risky, and could hurt their chances in the election. They could also spur GOP turnout in a down ballot race and cost her some House seats.
The only reason that the Dems are playing games like this is because they know the election isn't in the bag and need to try to change the dynamic.

I read the affidavit which was about 15 pages. If I was a defense lawyer, representing one of the ones with minor roles, the rational thing to do is to flip on the primary targets which seem to be two or three hard core guys. Typical prisoner's dilemma where the advisable thing to do is to flip on the two or three scalps that the DA wants.
Then, the hardcore guys that are the primary target are basically told, all your friends ratted you out, we are going to send you to SuperMax forever and a day, and if by some means that you win at trial, Michigan is going to file state charges. So, do you want to plead or spend the rest of your days in a small cell with Bubba, the convicted sex offender?
My guess is that the confidential informants and undercover employees were used to encourage wild dreams off record and tape which is apparently what happened in Dallas with the FBI and that guy trying to shoot up an everyone draws Mo contest.
Unless the hard core guys have their own recordings and records of everything, they are basically screwed with trying to prove entrapment versus the Feds, the CI, intercepts of comms, and their own guys testifying against them as to the validity of the charges.
While Hoover was a jerk, he had real concerns about agent corruption (see Whitey Bulger's case for example) from doing undercover work. In a similar way, notice that the rot in the FBI occurred in the counterintel bureau where they had all these nice intercepts and then tried to leverage that information into making people commit process crimes. Nasty stuff there and nasty people similar to the old Cheka and NKVD, etc.

He knows that Covid is a weak spot for him, and he needs to get the message out about what he is doing to combat it. Also news about the vaccine and therapies.
If the polls have any validity, the demographic he is weak in is older whites, and that is a large part of Rush's audience.

There is safety in numbers which applies to pollsters too. Rasmussen does not want to be left out from the herd. Gallup's approval rating showed a more minor dip to 46% from about 48%
I still think that the polls are reflecting upset primarily over the President's Covid test where the fear is that if he can get it, others can too. A second issue is whether or not the Covid stimulus failure might be a minor issue too in the dip.
Not sure if any pollster has asked those questions though or whether it proves important in the long run. Trump is now immune from Covid and Pence busting on Kamala and making her less credible as a Prezy might also have an effect.

Talk sometime to a real criminal defense lawyer about a lot of unsavory law enforcement practices. There is a reason a lot of them are ornery cusses with small firms.
Exculpatory evidence destroyed or hidden, pro defense witness statements shredded, illegal actions by the CI or the Undercover guy that incited the defendants, mysterious gaps and alterations in recordings, ad nauseum.
You will have your eyes opened. Don't talk to the second type of criminal defense lawyer whose job is to get the best plea deal for you through personal contacts with the prosecution.
Most criminal investigations start with the person and then build up the evidence to support charges--not to investigate broadly.
