Oh My: Is Fredo Cuomo Lifting FAKE WEIGHTS to Make Himself Look Strong?

At Outkick.

They do in fact make fake weights -- a bunch of Internet Bros have been caught lifting the hollow plastic weights.

They're kind of a staple of the Internet Fitness Industry.

A lot of guys who can't even lift like to use them to impress children who don't know any better.

Even legit strength coach Jeff Cavaliere has been accused of posting Fake Weight Lifts to his youtube account.

So check this out:

That's supposedly a 100 pound dumbbell Fredo is one-arm pressing there.

But... he's not pressing from a weight bench.

No, he's pressing from an... office chair.

An office chair that can apparently hold up an extra 100 pounds as he drives the weight into the air.

Oh, and of course when things are moving, they apply more force than when they're just sitting on something.

And another thing: if you lift up that much weight with ONE ARM, the other half of your body must be iron-hard tense in order to support that arm. It's like flying a plane on one wing: you're going to have to assume an odd position to manage it.

It can be done, but there's going to be a lot of strain on the non-wing part of the plane.

You'd have to move your body to keep that weight somewhere close to the center-line of your body-weight.

Otherwise you'd just tip over.

Fredo's not doing that. He's just putting this likely hollow, plastic Fake Weight straight up. With this alleged 100 pounds of excess weight just straight over his right shoulder.

He should completely tip over if he has all that weight over a single shoulder. That makes one half of his body suddenly 100 pounds heavier than the other. You can't remain seated if your right side is overloaded by 100 pounds.

He's not on his feet, where he could balance better. He's on his butt. On a cheap office chair.

As the guy challenging Cuomo to prove he's not lifting Fake Weight points out: It's impossible to lift a lot of weight with ONE ARM while appearing to just be completely straight and completely relaxed on the non-lifting side of the body. The half of your body which doesn't have the weight in its hand is working nearly as hard as the one with the weight.

If it's a real weight, that is.

If it's a fake plastic hollow weight -- then you can just put it straight up without having to lean your body to keep it over your center line, and without having to tense the rest of your body.

Just like Fredo can be seen doing here, coincidentally enough!

If he has the core strength to press one hundred pounds in one hand while showing no tension through the other side of his body, then he surely has the core strength to do the "flag" position from a flagpole, where he just grabs the pole with both hands and sticks his body straight out and perpendicular to it.

Can he do that? If he can, why hasn't he narcissistically published photos of him doing the flag?

People always lift with the weight in front of their bodies. They lean their backs back a little so that they're doing what CAN turn into, if they're not strict about it, a highly-angled bench press.

This lifting pattern is weird... especially for a heavy weight.

I lift, a lot, and I'm very strong. I suspect that I could lift a 100 pound dumbell like this, although I've never tried. I generally work out with 50s on this particular exercise, but I also do 3 sets of ten at least, and generally on the last set I'll keep going to refusal.

That being said...

If I were doing it, I would do it symmetrically. The uneven strain of lifting this much weight over your head on only one side of your body would be hard on your back.

If I were doing it, it would be pushing the limit, for sure, and I'm way TF bigger than Fredo, here.

If I were doing it, I don't think I would choose to do it sitting down to avoid back strain, but beyond that, there's no effing way that I'd do it in a swivel chair. Jesus H. He's begging for a serious back injury.

If I were doing it, I wouldn't be clicking links with a mouse in my other hand. This would take 100% of my concentration, and accurately moving a mouse around and clicking a link while doing this would be nearly impossible. Guys, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it would be nearly impossible for someone like Dwayne Johnson to do that. 100 Pounds is enough that even very strong people are going to at least need to focus on what they're doing to avoid injury, and you literally can't be clicking links with your off hand and focus on this lift. Just because Dwayne Johnson might be able to lift this weight, easily, doesn't mean he wouldn't need to concentrate while doing so. No matter how strong you are, 100 pounds can hurt you.

This is 100% a fake. No redness in his face. No bulging or vascularity in his arm. No sign in his facial expression that he's putting effort into the lift. No shifting of body weight to compensate for the extra 100 pounds (which has noting to do with strength, but rather, physics. My triceps are fairly strong. Not the best, but fair. I can do a 40 pound extension 2-3 times, maybe 4 if I've been working out. Chris Cuomo is not any larger than me If anything, he's a bit smaller in the arms, by the look of the pic.

If I was doing 100# extensions (which is the exercise he appears to be doing) my triceps would be BULGING. he has some pencil shit going on there.

309 probably already suggested, but I'd like to see some real lifter try to recreate that exact pose, with a real 100 pounds up behind his head, while typing on a keyboard. I can only compare a bag of soybeans ... maybe 60 pounds, wouldn't want that much weight over my head and behind me, even if one arm was strong enough, would have to keep it straight up. I don't see Fredo really straining at all, arm looks more flabby than muscular.

Im an older dude, with cats. carrying a 30 pound of sand in one arm by the handle without lifting it to even waist height is not simple, and the balance difference is notable. It is almost as easy to carry 2 one in each hand.

Doing that above the head, with three times the weight, imbalanced - no way.
