Monday Morning Rant.

Baboon.jpg

Since Oregon Muse is on vacation, some of us other COBS are filling in with morning rants of our own. Here's mine:

I like Trump, generally, not for his cult of personality but because I think he's done a pretty good job, all things considered, especially in the face of a media that is nothing but a propaganda arm for the Dems, but this kind of weak ass shit from cu*** like Lowry who want to tut tut about decorum when the country is facing a full on communist insurrection is ludicrous. Don't like Trump? Fine. I get that. WHAT'S THE FUCKING ALTERNATIVE YOU BRAIN DEAD MUPPET? You want a calm, cool, 1990s world where we can all sip tea and bloviate about principles and interests while you rake in cash from you latest book "The Coming War With Freedonia". You claim to support "conservative principles" but YOU NEVER DID ANYTHING BEYOND WRITING ANOTHER COLUMN. And now, the wolf is at the door and you're just all so offended that it might get a little "antagonistic" on social media while cities literally burn. 100 days of riots in Portland. 100 days! Riots (which means violence and looting) Hell, the Battle of Stalingrad only lasted for 160 days, we're more than 1/2 way there! And you want to claim some kind of moral high ground? You? You the "conservative" establishment that let it all happen? You the pundits and navel gazers who care nothing for the Constitution you claim to revere but refuse to defend. Fuck you. Did you hear that? Let me spell it out for you. F-U-C-K-Y-O-U. You National Review pussies, You baseball crank Twitter gurus, you Goldberg "Hey, I like dogs" losers. You held yourselves up as the bastion of "conservative" thought and whored yourselves out for media popularity. You fleeced the rubes and congratulated yourself for your cleverness while you were doing it. And this, this utterly dysfunctional and violent country we have heading into an election is your fault. Oh, not entirely, I'll throw you that bone, the left is doing the actual rioting, but mostly. All 'cuz you wanted to sit back and "discuss things like gentlemen" while the left was ruthlessly applying the mechanics of power. You thought you were too good to get into mud and fight for principles you claimed to love. You just wanted to go along and get along and cash checks. So now, when finally, finally, there is a populist revolt against the Marxist, totalitarian, evil that you incubated with your passivity, you want to yell at us, the proles, for objecting? Jesus, you got a lot of balls. The sad part, the really sad, hit-me-in-the-face-with-a-2X4-until-I-die part of it is that it didn't have to be this way, but now that it is you're wringing your hands over the uncouth populism of it all. And you're right. I'm an historian, and I've studied many populist movements. Pol Pot was a populist movement, and we got The Killing Fields. What you fail to register is that the Trump populist movement is reactionary. It's seeking a return to the America we know and love. However, by reflexively opposing it because it is "populist", you're killing America. "Populist" isn't bad if it's pushing American values. "Nationalism" isn't bad if it's a nation based on the Constitution. Get your fucking heads out of your asses accept that the whirlwind you've sown has showed up and it's reaping time, so now the adults have to deal with it. Shut the hell up and get out of the way, and may your chains set lightly upon you.

Only sort of, WD. This isn't exactly what they're longing for. They are longing for an parallel universe Present where Trump didn't win.

If Trump hadn't won, then the world would still be compatible with them and in some ways life would be better (assuming of course, that ignorance is indeed bliss):
- The lockdowns and mask mandates would not have happened. There would have been little or no response, like with H1N1
- There would be no rioting or street violence, because the Right Group would still be in power
- The cucks would still be in positions of moral authority
- People would continue grinding themselves down into dust on the walls of corruption, largely without knowing why they keep failing
- The bread and circuses would continue unabated
- The SCOTUS would be a hard-left institution permanently thanks to three picks (one of which was neutral by replacing RBG) and the status quo would be unchanged.
- There would likely be 1-2 new minor wars, which is what puts them in their element.

They don't exactly long for the 90s again. They long for *today* in a different timeline.

103 YES! Don't lecture me about "Trump sends dumb tweets and is too antagonistic" while we have a FNM that smothers so many facts about any R Pres. good accomplishments and invents bad things to 'report'." Did I feel sad that DJT was the candidate who could defeat the FNM in 2016? Yes, yes I did. However Trump did not just win the election, he has done a huge amount to advance conservative goals.

I'd like to live in a world where a conservative candidate didn't need to have Trump's stage presence and outsize personality for the public to learn their views and make an informed choice but we don't have that world and 'conservative' columnists who only bemoan Trump's style instead of trying to do something about the FNM working for the commiecrats while pretending to be 'neutral' are part of the problem, not at all any kind of solution.

128 Nationalism - like bilateralism - got a bad rap after the Great War. This is because the Great Thinkers of that age wildly misattributed causes.

Two-party deals weren't the problem, opacity was the problem. Rather than focusing on transparency, they focused on multilateral deals that were - and are - unworkable as they scale. Nationalism wasn't the problem, the lust for conquest and national expansion was the problem. Loving your country is a good thing. Wanting your country to do well is a good thing. Working for the betterment of your country is a good thing. A Frenchman *should* think that France is the bee's knees (unless he moves to a different country, of course). This is all good. But they slandered nationalism after WWI instead of slandering blood lust and conquest and again created a solution to the wrong problem and the solution doesn't work.

Mitt Romney was the perfect technocrat. He actually got things done with the top down, command style that they like. He has no personal scandals, well beyond letting his staff loot foreign countries for personal benefit (seriously they all do it now).

And yet he lost, badly, to president overseeing a 4 year recession.

Romney politics will never work. Because if you are going to go transnational progressive you can't maintain any part of what makes America what it once was.

Two more key events were the tossing of Whore-Hay Ramos out of that presser, which showed me this guy fights, and the great Iowa State Fair Helicopter Ride tactic that sucked all the air out of the other 16 campaigners there and convinced me this guy could actually win.

Reagan's first term was truly epic. In his second term, his age started to show, plus he never recovered completely from getting shot. And the Deep State, headed by Bush, started to reassert control.

Even with all that, he still collapsed Russia and ended a 40 year long Cold War. The two men are so different - Trump is a tough fighter, Reagan was a wise father.

I'd also add that having royalty is a problem too. When the Kaiser or the Czar calls the shots (though it was complicated a bit for Germany) there is less feedback in your calculations on risk/reward

Presume Germany wins WWI, it gets some French colonies, some Russian territory, and some sort of trade incentives at the expense of Britain in Europe.

The shift happened in language, too. We went from "The United States are ..." to "The United States is ..."

But I think the implementation of the Federal Reserve and WWI marked a bigger shift toward centralization that the War Between the States did. It was hugely important, but we still had states' rights until Wilson (who was a fascist) seized on the opportunities presented to him.

it might be true, that's a problem with using clip art off the internet for your graphics, you never know where it came from. The other problem is that the Mig-29 from the start was a knock-off of the F-15, and from the front only a military expert could tell their silhouettes apart. (I think the claim that it's a Mig-29 is based on the fact that the ailerons are canted at 28 degrees from level instead of 26, or something like that)

204 I dislike Trump specifically because of his personality Cult.

Then he ran for President and on the first day that I heard his
platform I was good with that. Then all the other contenders denounced
the major platform planks. That made me against them and for Trump's
platform.,

Then Trump got elected.

And I found that I kind of like the guy.

I was a Cruz supporter right up until he blamed the violence at Trump rallies on Trump. This was an outright lie because ex-con Robert Creamer (aka Mr. Rep Jan Shackowski (D-mentia)) had been caught/quoted saying he was behind it some three weeks earlier and wasn't arrested (naturally.)
Then I started seeing who was opposing Trump and noticed that it was the usual gang of leftarded idiots who were also against me for daring to oppose their anti-American, anti-Constitutional agendas.

That's when I climbed aboard the Trump Train. I'm not getting off any time soon. He's done more for this country that any president I can recall, even Ronaldus Magnus, which is saying something.

IMO, God is giving us a chance to return America to Him and His Values upon which she was founded. We cannot fuck this up.

Populism is an authoritarian technocrat's scare tactic, and nothing more.

You know what I call the idea of politicians doing things that are popular with a broad majority of the people?

285 Younger people can't appreciate how dominant the issue of Russia was prior to their collapse. (A big reason the Dems are still stuck on it, every year is 1972 to them) But worry and fear about conflict with the Russians was dominant everywhere for 40 years! You couldn't talk about any international issue without wondering how it impacted our seemingly eternal conflict with the Russians.

And then Reagan ended it. He ignored all the State Professionals who said it could never end, it could only be managed, and he ended it.

now younger people today, who didn't live through that, seem at times to say "Okay, I know he solved the biggest most existential problem America had faced throughout the post-WW2 period; but how come he didn't fix everything?"

State power is what these people worship, and the creatures that they are.

It's why I couldn't figure out why some woman voters cast a ballot for Hilldog because "she's a woman" or the "sisterhood" crap. Hillary wasn't a woman anymore than Chuck Schumer is a man. They - and most of the people in Washington - are sexless creatures of power. Their plumbing is irrelevant, like their religions are irrelevant. 362 The whole holding onto power until your last breath thing really gets me.

If McCain had really loved his family, he would have spent his final days in Sedona with his family. Then, in those actual final days before he died, he angrily made a list of people who were not to attend his funeral, and told Meggie Mac to "give 'em hell!" in her eulogy. I can't even imagine that kind of hunger for power and revenge.

Same with RBG, clinging to power till the very end, and then telling her granddaughter that her replacement shouldn't be seated until after the election.

I'd hate to be in their shoes 'splainin' all that to their Maker.

Nada, except in the "eyes of the Lord and the community", but I suspect Ruth was godless and her "community's" religion was the DNC platform. I just object to all the local breast beating, garment rending, and acting like she was a Jewish hero...then proceeding to upend the traditions they pretend to uphold.

407 263 Excellent points regarding "populism" and "nationalism". The NRO crowd doesn't have the wherewithal to understand that these aren't necessarily pejoratives. Their use of the word "populist", especially, reminds me of the time when the media collectively discovered the word "gravitas" and then couldn't stop using it. I also remember them being rather nationalist back when Obama rejected the notion of American exceptionalism. Or they pretended to be, anyway, because that is what the grift required at the time.
Posted by: Stout at September 21, 2020 11:26 AM (EHSFD)

Populism is an authoritarian technocrat's scare tactic, and nothing more.

You know what I call the idea of politicians doing things that are popular with a broad majority of the people?

Representative Government!

The very soul and essence of our mode of governance has been demonized, to try to sell the idea of rule by all-wise experts who know better than the Hoi Polloi.

They also don't seem to understand that it is (or was anyway) their job to persuade people, to make the positions they allegedly hold more popular. "We Want to Pay Respect" - Trump Says He Will Announce His Third SCOTUS Pick on Friday or Saturday after RBG's Funeral (VIDEO)

Ef That!

He should have pointed that everyone knew she was terminal for
months, if not longer, and we are not going to submit to those who have
been and still are parading her around like some religious relic.

Anyone with a lick of sense knew she was not long for this world
during the last presidential election. The last two SCOTUS nominations?
They were from the RBG replacement list.

When a relative of mine died, there was a group of older Jewish men, call them something of a breakfast club, my relative had befriended, simply because she would go in to get tea a the cafe at which they congregated.

When she died, and we held the event at a funeral home, these men showed up, but respectfully said they could not go in. They remained in the lobby, and expressed their condolences as best they could.

I was substantially more touched by their presence than I was by all the relatives who barely bothered to interact with her before she died, but once she did, came in and parked themselves at this event like it was the social event of the month.

I work closely with a gay colleague on a couple of my projects.

Our division is very technical and math/programming heavy, so it's similarly diverse in the US. The less math-y division has more white folks, but it's still diverse. There are lots of women throughout the company.

This all happened *organically*, so why do we need a diversity and inclusion push.

The problem is that he (a) isn't very good at it, speaking charitably, and (b) he's not consistently on the side he identifies with. "Mostly" conservative, I guess we'd say nowadays.

But really, look at the facts. What do VDH and Anton do? They write. Well, they also teach classes, granted. But that's not why they are well known. For that matter, what did Burke do? Speeches, books, letters.

It's all well and good to hit Lowry. He certainly deserves it. But I don't think it helps to get so enraged you make Biden level sense. Lowry doesn't suck because he wrote columns. He sucks because the columns suck.

When your political system can be thrown into hysteria by something as predictable as the death of an octogenarian with advanced cancer, theres something wrong with your political system.
_____________

What's wrong is that the federal government has far too much power.

The federal government was specifically designed to be a government of limited power. Instead, because the SCOTUS has rubber-stamped all its power grabs, the federal government is now a government of virtually unlimited power, including the power to print and spend unlimited amounts of money.

If the Supreme Court had done its job properly and kept the federal government in check, we would not be in this situation today, where a single Supreme Court justice's death can wreak so much havoc.

So ironically, it is the Supreme Court's failure to do its job properly that has allowed the Supreme Court to become so all-powerful.

And our globalists are still in bed with these enemies, but other nations are uniting against the Red China Threat. Good Changes ahead, if we get beyond the election with a Trump win. (holding the Senate would help, winning the House would be glorious)

Agreed. They are not unlike the southern planters who were addicted to that sweet, sweet cheap labor and simply couldn't see a path forward without it. For people like Mitt Romney and Jonah Goldberg and Bill Kristol who have never really worked a day in their tiny little lives, paying American workers a little bit more is just out of the question, and how dare they ask it.

579 Every last Never Trumper should be forced to read this aloud in the village square.

583 No more cruises. No one buying your $30 books. No one reading your egoistical and egotistical columns. There are plenty of Democrats and media handmaidens for the few slots in the coming one-party state. Shake that cup with the coins in it.

585 Aussies like Brits are subjects not citizens. Same is true throughout Europe.

You are wrong:British Nationality Act 1948 - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Nationality_Act_1948

Aussies and Britons are citizens. Even before this act subjects of her Britannic majesty had more legal protections than "citizens" in most republics.
Maybe try reading about the French republic or Germany for that matter - do you think they are forced to undergo whiteness struggle sessions?

586 Got to laugh about "snooty Auusies or Brits" in comoparison to the land of Nancy Pelosi or the Bush clan.

588 This ^^^^^. A million times, this ^^^^^.

You don't like Trump, you impotent f***s???

Imagine a Trump with the gloves off.

He's actually been (performatively, not rhetorically - I agree his rhetoric is often inflammatory) quite measured.

PRAY for another Trump term . . . as Dr. Bruce Banner famously said, "Don't make me angry . . . you wouldn't lilke me when I'm angry."
