Quarantine Cafe: Cookie Edition

Gary Gulman made his (brief) career on cookies.

I saw this guy in comedy clubs three times just to hear him continue noodling about cookies.

42 willowed, so repeated since peoples were whinin' about the topic -

Mask fans, note that just today, the buffoon CDC director quadrupled down on his idiocy, of course not producing any new evidence of any kind that masks are effective in preventing transmission of any influenza-like virus, such as C19. His own agency published a meta-study just in late May summarizing 70 years of research showing no benefit.

There is very persuasive leak-based reporting that the WHO did its own volte face on masks based on .... nothing more than political pressure. The advisory experts had no evidence to change the standing recommendation that masks for the general populace were not advisable. According to the leaks, WHO changed their guidance anyway.

Actual respirators, properly fitted and used, can prevent transmission - and are utterly impractical.

And of course the entire discussion takes place within the false framework of trying to what's never been done (contain or control a highly infectious respiratory virus), vs. trying to limit the damage it can do (the proper approach).

Posted by: rhomboid at September 16, 2020 08:05 PM (OTzUX)

43 All this discussion of cookies, everyone seems to be talking about factory made things. I don't get it.

Cookies are baked at home... somebody's home. And the people who love us most generously apply the axiom, never too much chocolate.

I have a relative who thinks they are the best baker in the world, and I beg to differ. They have a perspective which seems to be that one can never use too much sugar and/or butter.

Sadly, many people do not know this is not true. You really really can put too much sugar and butter in things.

But again, remember, never too much chocolate.

Its almost like the CDC was more correct back when they were saying "just wash your hands and don't touch your face." I'm guessing glasses wearers like myself probably rub our eyes a bit less just due to trying to avoid having to clean the lenses constantly.

500 A little more background from earlier about the two boy suspended indefinitely for carrying a thin red line flag and a thin blue line flag.

These two boys were INDEFINITELY SUSPENDED from their FOOTBALL TEAM because, as the SON of a FIREFIGHTER and the SON as a POLICEMAN, they carried these FLAGS on the field before a game to HONOR those who DIED in 9/11.

Support both these boys and their choice to run with the thin blue line flag and thin red line flag!!!
These two are the sons of a Sheriff and a firefighter, we played on 09/11/2020 (Patriot's Day) and they were supporting those that lost their lives protecting and serving on 09/11/2001.
I am disappointed in the choice of Little Miami Local Schools and Little Miami Athletics to suspend these boys indefinitely from the football team!
We will ALWAYS support our law enforcement and first responders!!

Familiarity bias. Fox was the conservative news channel. They internalized that Fox was the conservative news channel. Although it no longer is, their brains default to "Fox is the conservative news channel."

Changing things like that takes a long, long, long time, and until a new conservative broadcast network shows up in a big way, or until streaming becomes the norm and networks like OANN can draw general viewership, it will stay that way. Every show on Fox could be hosted by Peter Strzok, Al Sharpton and a random 350-pound antifa tranny, and the viewership would still watch it, because Fox is the conservative news channel.

573 Apparently raisins in oatmeal cookies are a horde thing on a par with carrots in chili. I did not know that.

I do concur with the moron who holds that peanut butter cookies are best when things are added, like chocolate chips. There was a bakery who sold their wares out of kiosks all over the UW-Madison campus when i was a student there. Oak Hill, or Oak House, or something. Their peanut butter chocolate chip cookies were the food of the gods. I can't find anybody who makes them, which is sure proof of the decline of western civilization.

Also: no bake cookies. Pure yumminess. And with the added bonus of not looking anywhere near as tasty as they are. I could take them in my lunch secure in the knowledge that no one would want me to share them.

We corresponded thru my page, I showed her the picture of finished product. No response. Again.. FB took 9 hours to notify me that she had received the picture. Finally tonight I get a response. You guessed it.. she sent it this morning. I got the notification at 6 pm. I hate them. I really really hate them. I think they are fucking with me.

This would pretty much empty out my cupboard. Fried okra is a favorite side, raisins are good on anything (or just by themselves in those little Sun-Maid snack boxes), and oyster stew with canned oysters is a great comfort food.

My breakfast this past Saturday morning: Spam, chunked up and fried in the skillet with potatoes, diced onions and a sprinkle of Old Bay, and scrambled eggs made with green peppers and the remaining anchovies in the can I'd used on my pizza the night before, with extra sharp cheddar melted on top. Good eatin'. Anchovies and eggs are the apex of complementary goods.

Okra has a bad rap. It makes a great crunchy pickle. Haven't had it fried, but I can imagine it being great. And it's a superb thickener for gumbo. The only thing wrong with it is that if you cook it in between its early stage of deliciousness, and its late, falling-apart, thickener stage, it's incredibly gross and part of it goes down your throat while another part stays in your mouth. So just don't do that.

It seems like I enjoy all the things that people think are awful. Anchovies, oysters, sardines, blind robins, liver and onions, etc.

One tavern I used to hang out in when I was in my twenties always had a great big pickling jar at the end of the bar. It was full of sheer joy: chicken hearts, gizzards, and livers, and a few pickled pig's feet. They had those little paper trays like you get fries in at the carnival, and they'd ladle you a tray full of whatever and a handful of Ritz crackers for a dollar. I miss that place.
