Atlantic Writer Admits That Liberals Have Not Reacted Well to Trump's Win and Still Haven't Gotten Over It, and Predicts (Safely) They're Resort to Further Lunacies, Including Violence, When He Wins Again
Yesterday the Atlantic published a piece by Shadi Hamid which makes the argument that if Trump wins the 2020 election, Democrats are not going to handle it well. The basis of his argument is pretty simple. Democrats didn’t handled the 2016 loss very well:You don't say. Why, I hardly noticed. Still quoting from Hamid:
Liberals had enough trouble accepting the results of the 2016 election. In some sense, they never really came to terms with it. The past four years have witnessed the continuous urge to explain away the inexplicable, to find solace in the fact that the voters betrayed them. How could so many of their fellow Americans side with a racist and a fabulist, someone so callous and seemingly without empathy? It was easier to think that those Americans had been lackeys, manipulated and deceived, or that they simply hadn’t understood what was best for them. Moreover, the Russians had interfered, and tipped the balance in an extremely close election through propaganda, fake news, and collusion with the Trump campaign. Perhaps, as former Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid suggested, the Russians had even tampered with the vote itself.
In presidential elections, once is a fluke; twice is a pattern. I struggle to imagine how, beyond utter shock, millions of Democrats will process a Trump victory. A loss for Biden, after having been the clear favorite all summer, would provoke mass disillusion with electoral politics as a means of change--at a time when disillusion is already dangerously high....Really, Nostradamus? You don't say. You know why I suspect that Democrats may resort to violence, looting, arson, rioting, and targeted assassinations after the election? Because they've been doing it for 110 days straight, with the left's leaders -- not fringe people, but actual elected political leaders and high-paid media mouthpieces -- defending and justifying the violence and cheering the murderers.
A certain kind of cognitive dissonance--the gap between what is and what should be--can fuel revolutionary sentiment, and not just in a fluffy, radical-chic kind of way. In such situations, acting outside the political process, including through nonpeaceful means, becomes more attractive, not necessarily out of hope but out of despair. This distance between what a society should be and the tragedy of what it actually becomes is less of a problem in democracies, because democracies are supposed to be responsive to voters’ demands and grievances. But they aren’t always. The gap will grow larger under a Trump presidency than a Biden one, and this has implications for mass unrest and political violence across American cities.

So my company is moving to general work-from-home. Not mandatory (though it is in the US until early next year) but anyone who wants to will be allowed to. As a part of this, they send out periodic surveys to the workforce to gauge interest, get information about tools and capabilities, etc. I got one that I did not fill out. I usually do, but the first page of this is so bad that I will not complete it. It's a standard 1-7 "strongly disagree" through "strongly agree" survey scale. The first page - as far as I got - has eight questions. Three of them - or about 40% - have nothing to do with work from home:
3. My business unit is making noticeable improvements on its inclusive culture.
4. All employees are treated fairly at (company), regardless of individual differences.
8. The senior executives of my business unit demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion through their actions.
This has nothing to do with work from home, at least primarily. This is a Woke survey that is not anonymous. There is no way in hell I am filling this out. I don't like "when did you stop beating your wife" questions, especially not under false pretenses.

In Joe Biden, they have nominated arguably the least likable candidate from a long list of losers. His initial election did not bother me nearly as much, since I mainly figured that you had the factor of McCain as a singularly awful candidate, and the mystery of Obama as the blank slate upon which society projected its hopes for the future. With the veil having dropped and his radicalism manifesting itself for all to see, I figured there was no doubt that he'd be a single term wonder. I was wrong, and it hurt.
Now take that pain times a hundred and you get what the majority of the left already feel now following President Trump's victory, having whipped themselves into a frenzy. They were constantly told that Hillary was as inevitable as the grim reaper, that their ultimate victory over traditional America was already won, and that all that was left was the mopping up process. Then Trump came along and shattered that narrative into a million pieces.
Now, should Trump overcome what will likely be the most concerted effort in American political history to blatantly manipulate the electoral process and earn his second term, I do believe that many on the hard left will shift into open outright total warfare. As of now, they've been testing the limits of their ability to project violence within the borders of their own leftist controlled cities.
If they believe that their institutional control cannot defeat President Trump in this election, then at the very least, I could see many more James Hodgkinsons looking to spread their misery, with disruptions in the national supply chain due to widespread violence and disorder. Less likely, but very possible, would be to see the BLM/Antifa rioters organizing into something akin to a Marxist revolutionary guard and spread out from the cities to destroy every community which they could gain access to, with the knowledge that much of the establishment would do nothing to stop them as they have shielded them up to this point.
I hope I am wrong. I've certainly been wrong before, as I stated. But I am exceedingly wary of what is about to happen to our country, whichever way this turns out. 2020 has already been difficult enough, but I'd not be surprised that we look back at these times as relatively free and easy compared to what we are about to experience.

The Left burned through the seemingly endless reservoir of "gravitas" and "credibility" that the journalism profession has self-assigned and accumulated for centuries MUCH MUCH quicker than they planned.
As far back as the invention of newspapers in the 1700s, journlaists have always been biased and deceptive and pastisan. But from the very beginning they endlessly strove to deem themselves the arbiter of truth and reality, and starting especially in the late 1800s and up through the 1960s the media succeeded in building up its own reputation to such a degree that most Americans "trusted the news," and assumed that if it was on TV or in the newspaper or magazine, then it was a. true and b. important.

HOWEVER, every time they publish a deceptive article, or glass over a key fact, or twist the narrative to fit their agenda, they burn through a little bit of that credibility. Just a little bit.
By golly, we've got so much credibility, we can burn through little but by little bit for CENTURIES, and still have plenty left over! Their reservoir of gravitas and credibility is endless!
Except -- oooops, "unexpectedly," they ran out of credibility about a decade or two ago, and have ben running on fumes ever since.
So they flail around trying to repair their credibility while simultaneously peddling lies, and it just doesn't work. You can undermine your credibility while simultaneously build up your credibility. Nope.
But their left is fresh out of ideas and strategies without their credibility. They pump their narrative at top volume, but now everyone knows it's a narrative, and most people don't like the fact they'e being lied to and don't like the ideology in the first place.
