They're slitting their own throats to dirty our shoes with blood.The Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers, led by superstar LeBron James, reportedly voted to boycott the rest of the NBA playoffs. According to Shams Charania, lead NBA writer for The Athletic, James walked out of a hastily-called players meeting when other team representatives said they would not join. However, Mr. Charania reported, other players realize that even if just those two teams boycott the season, enormous problems would be created in finishing the playoffs.

The NBA never said no to the players. They okayed everything -- political messages on jerseys, kneeling for the national anthem, political messages on the court itself -- and it still wasn't enough. And now their business doesn't exist. Lesson: you can't ever be woke enough.

What I hope happens is that the ratings tank next year, too, and forces some reform within (or perhaps replacement of) the leagues. The only league this year that might be a bellwether is the NFL, which looks like it's trying to have a real season.

Exactly, nobody is talking about them. There's no buzz, not even much coverage. Most people I know of weren't even aware there WERE playoffs going on.
Its so odd watching our culture change. All the big events are becoming forgotten and ignored. NBA playoffs used to be a huge event. But once it became obvious that the same couple of teams were going to win every time based on a handful of players bought for the year, people started tuning out. And now after the shutdowns and kneeling and slogans on jerseys etc..
But its not just sports. The Miss America pageant used to be huge TV. The Oscars. The World Series. They've all become kind of forgotten.

I agree. I love baseball and find it deeply comforting. I want the MLB to fail, die, or collapse so badly that they are compelled to make real changes back to what the game is supposed to be. much coverage. Most people I know of weren't even aware there WERE
playoffs going on.
Its so odd watching our culture change. All the big events are
becoming forgotten and ignored. NBA playoffs used to be a huge event.
But once it became obvious that the same couple of teams were going to
win every time based on a handful of players bought for the year, people
started tuning out. And now after the shutdowns and kneeling and
slogans on jerseys etc..
But its not just sports. The Miss America pageant used to be huge
TV. The Oscars. The World Series. They've all become kind of
forgotten.

Once lived in a city that had a HS boys' b-ball team that hit the jackpot on players for 2-3 years and went top-10 nationally while winning the state title. 4 of the starting 5 went D-1, and their star 6th man just chose the NFL instead and became a star running back.
It was an exciting period. Outstanding basketball. The best high school boys teams play some wicked exciting basketball.

I am rather proud of myself this morning. We had a new internet provider installed yesterday, along with phone and cable (yeah, I know, but TV is about the only entertainment Mr. Empire can manage any more, and 2 OTA channels didn't hack it.)
Anyway, the phone and TV parts worked fine immediately, but the installer couldn't get the internet to work on my desktop -- was going to send someone else out to troubleshoot that.
Sometime in the wee small hours, I thought the problem might be that the desktop's wifi receiver was, to put it mildly, rather elderly and might not be able to "hear" a newer transmitter.
Fortunately, I had a newer receiver, so after actually waking up, I (with the cat's "help") installed it. So now I am up on SuddenLink. Now to cancel the Verizon I was using!

The rise of urban basketball was bad for the game anyway. Nobody plays a team game in those urban pickup games, its all about yourself and being stylish. Nobody does any plays, almost nobody works with other players. That's how they learn to play, that's what they bring to the NBA, and that's why fundamentals and team play are pretty much "get the ball to LeBron" now.

While I encourage _everybody_ to abandon spectator sports fandom forever in order to punish #woke totalitarians, I doubt that the NBA's business has ceased to exist.
They will diversify and change their marketing stance, maybe actually abandoning #woke horseshit. They will expand their market in foreign countries. They may cut salaries and costs.
But the demand for their product is definitely there. I see little sign that die-hard sports fans are willing to give up their favorite spec sports, even when their heroes are pissing in their faces. From what I have read and seen of the videos and still shots, the guy also was carrying a knife with him to his vehicle. This after he had already been tazed and gotten away from the arresting officers.

You guys are absolutely correct, but I imagine that the allure of such activities will decrease as it is relegated to some sort of fringe entertainment due to the fair weather fans saying, fuck it

It's so late in the year now that they won't have any sort of off-season to speak of before it's time for the next season; they should've just scrubbed the whole post-season to begin with.
