Joe Biden Ahead of Trump in Pennsylvania
...Barely

Actually, they're statistically tied.

As Democrat Joe Biden formally accepts his party’s presidential nomination, a Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll shows him with a narrow lead over Republican President Donald Trump in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania.

Biden drew support from 49% of likely state voters and 45% backed Trump, when those leaning toward a particular candidate were included. That four-point gap is within the poll's margin of error.

I don't know why this report says Biden is "ahead" when this lead is within the margin of error -- that means they're statistically tied.

Oh that's right, I know why: Because the left is insane and can't admit Trump might win, so they're making themselves another Hugbox Bubble of Fake News where the Bad Orange Man can never win.

having said that, I also don't think the Convention did them any favors. Only a handful of people in DC watched Joe's "powerful!!!!" speech, and Kamala is a big nothing.

I continue to be surprised, when talking to people I know personally, how many say that they have turned off all news, stopped reading all papers, cut off any of the input from anywhere. They perceive it as all crap, and they don't want to hear any of it anymore. I would say that among my personal acquaintances, a clear majority now fall into this category.

Federal officials didn't immediately respond to messages seeking information. But a source with knowledge of the situation said federal authorities received a threat that a vehicle filled with explosives would hit a federal building.

134 Pennsylvania results in 2016 were pretty fascinating.

https://bit.ly/2DEv6ej

PA had been pretty solidly Blue the previous 4 elections. And Hillary only lost 64,000 votes (2%) from Obama's 2012 total.

But there was massive increase in both third party voting and in Republican turnout in PA in 2016 for Trump.

Trump increased Romney's 2012 total by 10%! 290,000 votes.

And third party voting increased by 223%. 185,000 votes.

Trump won the state by 44,000 votes.

GOP candidate votes in PA:

2016 (Trump): 2.97 mil
2012 (Romney): 2.68 mil
2008 (McCain): 2.66 mil
2004 (Bush): 2.79 mil
2000 (Bush): 2.28 mil

Dem candidate votes in PA:

2016 (Clinton): 2.92 mil
2012 (Obama): 2.99 mil
2008 (Obama): 3.28 mil
2004 (Kerry): 2.94 mil

174 If I was going to pick one state Trump loses to Biden that he didn't to Hillary (and still win the Presidency) it would probably be PA.

That being said, this is really encouraging and really bad news for Biden.

If I was Trump, I'd focus on Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Michigan and Florida.

And if you'd like to go back to the that thread - I'll show you how they can do it - based upon over-reporting in just a few places that went largely for Hillary in 2016.

And I did not use anything more mysterious than the 2016 numbers that are available on Wikipedia. Don't try and twist what I said.

these are absentee ballots, not mail in voting, just to clarify

the dems are pushing people hard to apply for absentee, but they probably won't other than really insane liberals, but even them I would think would rather go in person

this is really being overstated and presented confusingly when you call it "mail in voting" we do NOT have that.

everyone I talk to in PA plans on voting in person. we had pretty high turnout for the primary during the worst part of the "plague" so people will be voting in person. both sides are paranoid so they will do it in person if at all possible.

are you sure about this? 273 I'm still very cautious about the numbers right now. You cannot just look at the current polls (nor can you assume they're automatically undercounting Trump voters, although they likely are). You also have to look at the trends approach election day, which is still off a bit. They turned sharply against Hillary the last couple of weeks in 2016. Since MI, PA and WI has a lot of the same blue collar voters that OH has, in retrospect it was mistake to discount them as I did.

That said, the current trend is moving Trump's way. A number of states I have him losing narrowly, or are still in the tossup stage right now, are moving the right direction. There are also the ongoing riots and their impact on voters. Right now, we're 80+ days of riots in MN. Absent that, I'd give the state to Biden due to a lot of things. But if the unrest continues, the state probably goes to Trump. My current EV projection has Trump at 270-268 or 269-269, the latter of which would be awful. However, a small move puts another 30-60 EVs in play for him to win.

I expect Trump to lose the deep blue states by an even larger margin this time, but am right now predicting a narrow EV victory or tie. A small move his way makes the narrow EV victory a large one which, coupled with a 4%-5% popular vote loss, is going to drive the left even more insane.

Also, be on guard against the left's post-election tactics in states they narrowly lose. See Gore 2000 writ large this time, with even more shenanigans (ballot harvesting) at work.
I still cannot get a feel for the House and Senate yet. Too many variables at work. And yes, I know this will be viewed as overly pessimistic, but it's just how I see the numbers right now. I will say that picking Harris was probably not a great choice. She and Biden are aided greatly in that people won't see much of them in person before the election and that's entirely by design. Fewer voters will see how unlikable she is and how much in decline he is.

Less than 3 months to go. I hope to be making cocktails out of leftist tears on election night.

There are places (area codes if you think of phone polls) that are deep wells of Democrat OR Republican support.

Depending on who you call, or randomly, who you call, you can get some very skewed numbers.

Yeah, for example if you sample a bunch of California area codes, you can get the "predictable" results.

Internal polling done by the candidates hired guns are probably more systematically "honest", but then again, maybe not. And we don't see those.

318 Margin of Error is a 95% confidence interval. The distribution or uncertainty is the center of a bell curve containing 95% of the probability. Statistically, if someone is ahead in a poll, they more likely than not are actually ahead. That said though, MOE applies to both candidate's numbers.

Here is a cool calculator from a Republican polling firm that gets the odds someone is ahead based on sample size. In this situation, the sampling uncertainty (which is what MOE represents) suggests a 79% chance that Biden is ahead.

319 Here is the statement of how this poll was conducted by Muhlenberg College:

The following report contains the results of a telephone survey of 416 likely voters in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania between August 11 and 17, 2020.

Respondents were interviewed in English on both landlines (105) and cell phones (311). With a randomly selected sample of respondents, the margin of error for the surveys is +/- 5.5% at a 95% level of confidence. Margins of error for questions with smaller sample size will be larger. In addition to sampling error, one should consider that question wording and other fielding issues can introduce or bias into survey results. Interviewing was conducted by Communications Concepts of Easton, Pennsylvania under protocols established by the MCIPO. The data has been weighted to gender, age, region, race and educational attainment to reflect voter population parameters. The calculation of sampling error takes into account design effects due to the weighting identified above. In order to reach a representative sample of registered voters both landlines and cell phones were called up to 3 times. Teh response rate for this survey as calculated using the American Association of Public Opinion Resaerch (AAPOR) RRII formula is approximately 11%. The sampling frame for the study is from the registered voters files of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. To determine likely voters, only voters who have voted in 1 or more of the last 4 general elections (2016 - 2019), or who is a new registrant since November of 2016 were included in the sampling frame. In addition, only survey respondents from this frame who indicated that they were "definitely" or "very likely" to vote in the November election were included in the sample."

From https://www.muhlenberg.edu/aug2020election/

1. Taken before the DNC Snoozefest of Lies, Serial Murderers and Sex Criminals.

2. Likely Voters don't seem that likely, definitionally.

3. Absolutely no idea of party affiliation ("randomly selected sample of respondents").

4. 11% of the people called responded to the poll.

5. Cell phones were the majority of the calls, rather than land line.

321 Regarding fraud...

I've watched the MSNBC election night coverage a few times now, and the most interesting aspect for me is the reporting of Chris Matthews who was talking to one of the Philly Bosses. They were very confident that they were going to turn out vote totals for Clinton that exceeded the results for Obama.

And they did.

Matthews was 100% certain that Clinton would win PA based on that source of information.

That right there is the way the fraud works. The Dems have vote targets for their strongholds and the bosses are tasked with hitting those totals. Clinton exceeded targets in early voting and election day voting in key areas, such as Philly and Broward county. This is why they were so confident that they had it won.

They had already turned the crank on the fraud machine and manufactured all the votes they needed. They didn't count on red counties having so many people show up that hadn't voted before.

I personally think they squeezed this lemon dry in in 2016, I don't think they can get many more illegal votes without ending up in a court challenge and getting the votes in their precincts invalidated.

331 You're touchy. "Democrats are going to cheat to victory no matter what!"

That's you. That's my impression of you.

Don't show me the numbers - Trump's gonna' win bigly !!! That's not my impression of you. That is you.

So, how many is Trump gonna' win Pennsylvania by ? Six million voted there in 2016. He won by half a point. What's his lead there gonna' be this November ? Five points ? Ten ? Name it. A zillion points ?

Five points is 300K fraudulent ballots. Seems unfathomable, doesn't it ? In 2016, Hillary got the bulk of her support in the following counties - Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, Allegheny, Chester, and Lehigh. She won all of these counties by at least five points. Add those results up - and she netted 2.6 million votes just in those locations.

Could the DNC add another 10% - just in those locations - to null out a five point Trump lead statewide ? Or could they perform a harder trick, in my opinion, of 5% over-reporting statewide ? I don't know - but I'm positive the probability is not zero - and it's certainly in the double digits.

I'll be "confident" of this election when Trump is sworn in. Until then, we might just want to leave each others peckers alone just a bit longer. When you allow vote by mail, it just doesn't take that much, in a few blue strongholds, to tilt the scales. We've had reports of over-voting by as much as 20% in some places.

------

I have no doubt they cheated their asses off. They always do. And Bob Creamer and Scott Foval were bragging on camera about their efforts in that regard.

But one thing that got me about the election interference by the intelligence agencies, and their subsequent actions, was the sloppiness of it all. If they'd had any belief they would lose the election, they would have been much more careful about their world-historical crime.

I'm guessing that the same overconfidence that led to that chain of consequences probably informed their broader election fraud efforts, as well.

I would expect the fraud to be way more focused and intense in 2020.

Which is why I'm showing you how over-reporting in large populace areas that go largely Dem can have a huge result. But you're too busy with your snark to read it. Snark doesn't change math.

Philadelphia County went for Hillary in 2016 with 82% of the vote. I think we can assume they really like Hillary there. 700K votes were cast in Philadelphia County.

I'll bet my ass they over-report by at least 5%. Just that one county, if Trump is really doing 5 points better than last year, could yield an extra 30K votes for Biden.

So I'll ask again - how many points is Trump winning Pennsylvania by ? Because it only takes a few big counties cheating by 5% to null a small lead out.

Tammy Duckworth is Dick Durbin's creation.

When she came back to Illinois after getting her legs shot off in Iraq, Durbin took her under his wing and managed her political career. Everything she has now is a direct result of doing what the IL dem party tells her to do.

She's a minority, female, veteran who suffered a life changing injury because of George Bush's war in Iraq. They glommed onto her and have made her into what she is today.

She's been bought and apparently will stay bought.

The fecal-oral route is the likely main path of transmission, and now that restaurant employees are told to wear gloves and masks I bet there is a lot less hand washing. Not to mention that it is certainly active in other body fluids, and those gloves are adjusting the masks on the high school dropouts' faces without any hand washing in between now.

FWIW, the CDC and states have acknowledged that it takes 15 minutes of close contact with a positive carrier before you possibly maybe potentially catch it.

You probably misunderstood my point. I don't go to restaurants any more than you do - although I still leave the house and go to work downtown each day, once in a great while I'll get a sandwich with a coworker, but I mostly cook all my own food. Eating out needs to be fun, not worth it if it's a hassle.

I'm talking about people who have turned their homes into Fort Despair, and never leave for *anything*. They live their lives in constant fear that they *might* get sick. My wife, who has had plenty of health problems, had a unique perspective on this - she says "These are people who have never suffered, who thought everything was always going to be easy and fun. The first time in their lives they face a threat, they curl up into a ball and hide. If you've faced real suffering, then this is no big deal at all. You think Big Deal, Bring it."

I would add, I also think that people who think their own lives are The Most Important Thing Ever are of course going to be the ones who freak out the most. I like my life, of course, but I can think of a whole lot of things that I think are a lot more important than that.

As far as I'm concerned, they've succeeded.

509 You probably misunderstood my point.

I try to be respectful of people who are, in my view, overly cautious about this virus nonsense, and I SEPARATE them from those with legitimate health concerns that require them to take precautions that are way more than I would/need.

Even so, the overly cautious are doing themselves a disservice, even if it MIGHT not be my place to tell them so.

What gets me boiling though, I have a mother who checks all the risk boxes, and STILL has more fight in her than many other people I see. She's fairly well fed up with her children who want to baby her, and do their share of virtue signaling around who CARES for our mother more than whom.

My challenge then, is not getting too snotty with my siblings (and their meddling spouses). I try to take a lesson from my mother on that count, but I'm nowhere near as full of wisdom and forbearance as she is.

510 nurse, the CDC and states also recommend not sharing a bathroom if you test positive, and were pulling people out of homes with only one bathroom when this thing first started. I'm guessing that's not because there's a bunch of bathroom sneezing involved.

512 I'm sure Trump, his campaign, and his lawyers have completely forgotten it too.

By all appearances, yeah, they have. remember when VP Pence was going to get TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS fraud thing?

Then dropped it, and in 2018 just let the Democrats cheat to win like 6 seats in congress? BOy they were all over that huh?

513 I'm looking forward to the shock on mainstream commentators faces when they begin to figure out that 10's of Millions of moderate and right leaning Americans stopped answering polls about 4 years ago. How many non-lefties would even take the operational security risk of talking to a pollster they don't know right now? Given this years escalation of leftists lunacy driven violence this year how many people would know a legitimate pollster from someone seeking targets to later harass or commit vandalism/arson against?

I think out of an abundance of caution lots and lots of Americans who don't fall in line with the prevailing CNN/MSNBC/NY Times/DNC worldview are opting to remain silent or ignore polling opportunities. My guess is that the silence on the right, coupled with intentional undersampling of right leaning voters means that the polls are understating conservative candidate support by at least 10-15% and possibly as much as 20%. I'm not going to hold my breath due to commie shenanigans and the potential for massive vote fraud, but I still think we are looking at a massive Trump landslide with broad coattails for any Republican who isn't under current indictment (and probably some who are if the charges are filed by Soros funded DA's).

515 Uh-huh. Yuuuuge part of the panic-prone people
problem. Sheltered to such a degree that they've never had a serious problem. Lots of people in that boat.

And remember, people under the age of say, 60, have really faced no real hardship in their lives. No major deadly wars, no serious illnesses, no depression, etc.

Older folks went through the world war, vietnam, polio, smallpox, hong kong flu, the great depression, it goes on and on. They've faced real dangers and hardship.

Younger people have no perspective, to them this is THE WORST THING EVER THE WORLD WAS GOING TO DIE. They have no reference point to worse times to compare. Its like when your toddler skins a knee. Never before in their lives have they experienced pain like this. Its bad, and boy does it hurt, but by the time you're 20 you've had far, far worse and know its not as bad as you thought.

520 Well they know Biden is ahead because polls can't factor in the massive fraud that takes place in philly every 4 years. Republicans need to invest in poll watchers in states that may be close.

521 Thanks to Governor Wolf and "Rachel" Levine, the hate for Democrats and their policies is very real here in PA. The Dynamic Duo has managed to only increase the energy for Trump and disdain for Biden.

Trump just said that on Hannity: massive outpouring of law enforcement to de-thugify the polls. Also seems to have controlled the mail-in voting with his bud running the USPO.

523 Joe Biden is actually trailing and trailing badly. The samples always over-sample democrats & left leaning independents and always under-sample republicans and right leaning independents. If the Democrat, Biden in this case, isn't ahead by at least 10 points than he is actually behind.
