Evening News Round-Up

So California has a new outbreak of human plague.

This doesn't feel much like the future anymore.

A human case of plague was confirmed in California this week, marking the first time such an instance has occurred the Golden State in five years.

...

Officials said the person -- an "avid walker" -- may have contracted the disease from an infected flea, sustaining a bite while walking their dog “along the Truckee River Corridor north of Highway 50 or the Tahoe Keys area in South Lake Tahoe.”

"Health officials are investigating the situation," officials said in the release.

Psst, probably has something to do with the large number of homeless people permitted to live in filth in close proximity to rats.

But that might just be an Old Wives Tale. I know I don't know Science as well as the geniuses of the left.

California decided to put millions of people out of work -- the state went on a crusade against freelancers and independent contractors, and demanded that companies hire such people as full-time employees or else... they were forbidden to employ them at all.

The companies warned: You're forcing us to make millions of people unemployed.

California said: Fuck you, pay me.

Well, now Uber and Lyft are ending all business in the states.

Naturally, lefties are blaming the companies.

The left is serious about cancelling Susan B. Anthony.

This only started when Trump pardoned her.

Antifa is now giving some Mostly Peaceful Protests to county government buildings in Portland.

The Mostly Peaceful Protests involve intentional arson and attempting to build down buildings worth tens of millions of dollars.

NBC can't give up the Russia Hoax Conspiracy Theory.

Shouldn't be too hard on them -- half of the Establishment Right also refuses to give up on the conspiracy theory.

Great ad:

Erick Erickson, Clinton Defender:

Whatever it takes to get back on CNN.

You will be made to Bend the Knee to violent Marxist racists:

Maybe they're afraid the thugs and locusts will invade unless they bend the knee.

Of course the Democrats omit "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance:

Finally:

Quick, arrest this man for non-state-approved grafitti:

9 When I was growning up, in the 80's, there were all these sci fi novels talking about the end of civilization. About the barbarians, inside and outside, waiting to tear everything down.

Stories by Poul Anderson, Jerry Pournelle, others. It seemed like fiction at the time, just fiction.

They were not fiction, they were prophesy.

Ah well, they're also why I got into weapons so early.

182 It's hilarious/disgusting that he is calling Uber and Lyft "cruel and petulant", as if that's the reason they decided they had to forgo millions of dollars of income.

In fact, Bonin supported a policy which would require them to dramatically change their business model, which they feel would wreck their companies. So they would rather not do any business at all in the state, than submit to that demand.

183 Bubonic plague is endemic in California and occurs pretty much everywhere except in the Central Valley and the high deserts. Chipmunks and golden mantle ground squirrels carry it, which is why you'll see signs about it in the state and national parks, and also at rest areas throughout the Sierra Nevada. Because people just LOVE to feed the cute little rodents, which carry fleas, which carry plague bacteria. Deer can carry the infected fleas too, but most people aren't getting that close to deer. Hantavirus prefers drier hot places, like the Mojave desert.

No, I didn't leave anything out, except the outrage.

Oh they are grasping mofos. I'd neglected to include the payment form for the $800 LLC tax for several years, so they credited all of the payments to one year, and none to the other years, and then dunned me for the unpaid years.

I pointed out that all they had to was redistribute the payments to their respective years. No can do, Charlie. Statute of limitations type of thing. Also, they can't (won't) disgorge the payments. They're in the state's maw, and that's final.

"OK, so why do I have to pay it all again, you know, what with the statute of limitations type thing?"

"Pay up, kulak, that's why."

So I got to pay the LLC tax twice for a number of years.

381 Eric Erickson is as uninformed as he is cuck. Clinton did NOT balance the budget. He and Gingrich merely changed the accounting so that we had a so-called "unitary" budget whereby the phony Social Security "trust fund" and the General fund were combined. At that point, the Baby Boomers were at their peak earning age and money was pouring into Social Security yielding a huge surplus. Slick Willie and Newt got Congress to change the way the accounting was reported and, voila, the SS surplus offset the general fund deficit and they claimed victory.

The simple proof of this is that at no time since 1957 has the US government debt gone down year-over-year. If debt doesn't go down, there talk of a surplus is bullshiite. Here's the US Treasury's official debt scorecard:

The Uber business model is centralized power and control. They call it "capitalism", but it is a distortion of the free markets to centralize power. 397 So. I am a computer tech at a middle school. Today was the first day of handing out laptops for all the students in preparation for students beginning school in person on September 2nd.

I talked to all the parents as they came in. Some people are absolutely terrified of sending their kids to school. We have the option that parents can choose remote learning for their kids and these people are choosing that.

Many more of the parents, however, said this is way overblown and are ready for kids to go back.

Meanwhile, the staff who have come in to get their equipment were one and all in favor of school as usual this fall. I had several tell me that they have quit watching or trusting the news over this and that people were being deliberately frightened for political reasons.
Anecdotal, of course, but interesting.

now as far as muslims in this country, obviously that's all politics. BUT something really fascinating has happened over the last few months in the Middle East, and I think it's the result of a combination of Trump's policies and the oil price crash.

One of the big lies (that everyone knew about) was that all the violence in the middle east was Unsolvable, when in fact it had been paid for by outside forces for generations. On our end, the US pumped endless amounts of money to support "our interests" (but also look at what John McCain and Hillary and all the grifters who rode that gravy train did with it) On the Arabs end, the Saudi Royals and the Gulf States and Iran pumped endless amounts of money to push their various plots and plans and intrigues. Syria was the epitome of all of these behind the scenes players sending their puppets at each other all at once, that's why it was such an intractable mess.

And now - Trump has walked out, said "I'm not playing anymore, you guys do whatever." At the same time, the Oil price crash cut off almost all of the Saudi's, etc., extra income as well - they don't have the money to play these games, or even to build up their military forces much at all, which is why suddenly Israel looks like such a good ally. And Iran - they finally ran out of the pallets of cash, and they can't afford to cause a lot of trouble either.

That's why all the fighting, all the bombings, all the offensives, all the defensives - everything has suddenly come to a screeching halt over there. Nobody is paying the useful idiots to blow each other up anymore, so they quit doing it. Amazing how that works.

408 Uber, by the way, thrives through exploitation of their drivers and making them use their own cars. That's the whole business model. The drivers for the most part are too economically illiterate that they're actually making about $4 an hour, with depreciation, taxes, insurance, wait times, empty return trips, etc. Some wise guys do better, some do worse.

some uber drivers are making disastrous decisions, such as using their amg gwagen for ubering.

They should get to do whatever they want but they should know that they are not going to be making $ if they are driving something other than a civic or sim.

I used to joke to people that I could go to Boston because there was a warrant for my arrest.

Oddly, the 20 year old collection, which they STILL try to collect every so often, has not had any effect on my credit rating.

Yes, they are. I'm a patriot and a traditionalist and I appreciate any excuse to play the anthem, and I'd miss it if it was skipped. When I moved there for work from Nevada in 1989, they were dinging new vehicle registrations from out of state with a $300 surcharge.

I avoided paying it for three or four years, simply driving to Tahoe to re-register at the DMV there (pre-interwebs days).

Apparently thousands of others did too, because they started a very public program to reward snitchers on neighbors who maintained out-of-state license plates for more than a couple of weeks.

You could see what was coming even back then ...

It's like the Confederate monuments. I don't give two shits about them. Except that it doesn't stop with Confederates. Bump stocks too. Don't give a shit. But it'll never stop there either. Give up "under God" from the pledge, you'll get nothing in return (including your peace), and the Left will simply move onto the next thing, like references to God on the currency. It never ends. It's never-ending, adjustable goalposts. It's like apologizing to the Left. Why would anyone rational give them a single thing they ask for?

If you can't be arsed to defend the most mundane, benign expressions of traditionalism, then you're going to do nothing but lose in the culture war. And that's what conservatives have done. We have a conservatism that hasn't conserved a fucking thing in this country.

439 for all of you worried about plague, yep it is deadly if not treated. If we get a variant that is resistant to antibiotics that would be bad. That means everyone gets plague shots which I am told really sucks.

Plague is also endemic in rodents in the Southwest, and gets passed to humans on the years that it gets really dry and the rodents move nearer to humans and water (humans mean water by the way)

As a WTF 2020 moment, yes. I will point out that there are locust plagues in the Indian subcontinent, and I for one am waiting for the rains of frogs and the waters turning to blood . . . Not eagerly, but rather with my checklist ready to go so I can get a free one once we get them all checked off.

I mean, if it gets bad Bayer could bring out Frontline for Humans, but they would have to recalibrate the doses away from the standard 5lb gradation they currently have for cats.

Our computers are checked out to students like a library book. We have serial numbers, etc. The parents are required to pay $25 a year insurance-except for the free and reduced lunch crowd. Students sign for them and we get them back or our Student Resource Officer goes to their house and gets them.

We don't do defund the police here so he will be back this year. And, of course, if there is a house he needs to go get computers from it is always one of free and reduced lunch families.

Not sure why that is, but that's who has trouble getting them back to school at the end of the year.

445 "Under God" was put in the pledge because Jehovah's witnesses had refused to say the original because they don't put national allegiances over God, and oaths don't wear off. and then the Supreme Court said they didn't have to, and ordinary people were thinking "Hey good point, Jehovah's Witnesses," with Soviets and creeping Communism in mind.

me, I don't make trouble, I always stand up but I don't like the pledge. I know who wrote it and why - it was a crummy commercial for flag sales and part of the and was selling a political outlook. No matter what it came to be, that's where it came from.

(Bubonic) Plague in California ...

It's endemic. I remember a case in the Central Coast (Monterey south to San Luis Obispo) back in '87. Completely unrelated to homelessness.

Wander off into the weeds in CA, and you take your chances.

However, there is at least one severely virulent strain of Hepatitis in the major metro areas of CA (2018-2019: LA and San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose), and it is strongly linked to homeless/transients/etc.

This tidbit was shared by our neighborhood security service, as we were having issues with people trying to set up home in our car ports, laundry rooms, green space. Security said to NOT engage with them, but to call the PD.

There's a similar link to meningitis (mostly LA, also 2018-2019).

Both of these are on Gov. Gratuitous Nuisance and the rest of the Democrats.
