The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
Starting in approximately December 2018, BRIAN KOLFAGE, STEPHEN BANNON, ANDREW BADOLATO, and TIMOTHY SHEA, and others, orchestrated a scheme to defraud hundreds of thousands of donors, including donors in the Southern District of New York, in connection with an online crowdfunding campaign ultimately known as “We Build The Wall” that raised more than $25 million to build a wall along the southern border of the United States. In particular, to induce donors to donate to the campaign, KOLFAGE repeatedly and falsely assured the public that he would “not take a penny in salary or compensation” and that “100% of the funds raised . . . will be used in the execution of our mission and purpose” because, as BANNON publicly stated, “we’re a volunteer organization.” Those representations were false. In truth, KOLFAGE, BANNON, BADOLATO, and SHEA received hundreds of thousands of dollars in donor funds from We Build the Wall, which they each used in a manner inconsistent with the organization’s public representations. In particular, KOLFAGE covertly took for his personal use more than $350,000 in funds that donors had given to We Build the Wall, while BANNON, through a non-profit organization under his control (“Non-Profit-1” ), received over $1 million from We Build the Wall, at least some of which BANNON used to cover hundreds of thousands of dollars in BANNON’s personal expenses. To conceal the payments to KOLFAGE from We Build the Wall, KOLFAGE, BANNON, BADOLATO, and SHEA devised a scheme to route those payments from We Build the Wall to KOLFAGE indirectly through Non-Profit-1 and a shell company under SHEA’s control, among other avenues. They did so by using fake invoices and sham “vendor” arrangements, among other ways, to ensure, as KOLFAGE noted in a text message to BADOLATO, that his pay arrangement remained “confidential” and kept on a “need to know” basis.It seems damning, however I will reserve judgement until there is more than one side presented. If it is true? Send them to jail. If it isn't true? It is one more nail in the coffin of justice in America. But that indictment sure does sound hyperbolic. Breathless exhortations to the crowd to "Burn the witch!" always make me suspicious. And if it does pan out, it does suggest that President Trump chose wisely when he separated himself from Bannon three years ago. I just wish that the same investigatory power was exerted when other organizations like...oh...The Clinton Foundation, or Open Society Foundations play fast and loose with their money. A fella can dream!

On another note, there is a huge iceberg of corruption that is taking place with nonprofits in general; especially ones run by current or former politicians.
If there was some sort or Sarbox investigation into the goings-on with these orgs, it would make the corruption in the for-profit corporations look like a walk in the park.
We're still waiting for the politician with the guts to go after this sector. It's ripe for reform.

The reason the Clinton Foundation is not being indicted for the same thing isn't because Bannon and those Wall Fund people have more worthless legal disclaimers and representation that the CF, its they have a shit load less political cover than the Clintons. No one at the DOJ is going to bring a very complicated case to court that is going to be difficult to win if the politics are going to be unbearable too - with Bannon, the PR is worth the trouble I guess.

I think one of the most incredible things of this century has been the Clinton's ability to never be prosecuted for anything.
Not the using of private servers for federal information, not obstructing justice or destroying evidence, not any of the suspicious deaths of people who may have information incriminating them, not the evidence of underage sex, not the graft, not the abuses of the Clinton Foundation.

I got one of "those" feelings from him, like he may have been a bit on the skeevy side, but he did help us get PDT elected. Bannon got jettisoned early for good reason, looks like.

This is what most of the "campaign consultants" in DC, especially the lawyers and the accountants, spend their time on. If you daisy chain enough of these together, and have at least one or two of the links headquartered in Aruba, you can send any amount of money anywhere you want and all traces of its origination point will be erased. That's how the game is played.

I went out to get important stuff like lottery tickets, and as far as the masks, we have once again gone into open rebellion. The clerk, no. The owner, no. Three people in the store, no. I got a little fascinated and hung around for a few, and it was like nothing ever happened, no masks. Pretty busy place, and over a dozen came and went without the mark. A week ago I got a scowl and a "Hey, you forget your mask" from a customer. I said no.

I have no idea why any company stays in New York. The legal downsides far outweigh any perceived benefit. It's mostly this mentality that the beast will eat them last.
This is how Democrats act when they are partially restrained. Once those restraints are removed, nobody is safe. Most of their supporters are just too emotional to understand that.

No, not specifically. Nobody votes because of Eva. But the Democrats have been helped enormously for half a century by the fact that every single movie and television show and song you hear with a political message, has a Communist message.

How does one resist or overcome literally a lifetime of propaganda? Surely we should give the devil his due but I wonder if sometimes we give him way more than that. Anyway, not sure there's a point there, just a thought that maybe the other side doesn't have as big an advantage as they (and, sometimes, we) think.

I don't recognize most of the Hollywood names. If there's a movie on, and it looks ok, I go to details. Half the time it's actors or actresses I have never heard of, and a lot use or were blessed with weird names. Keanu, who the hell names their kid that (although I found out he's a pretty good guy and knows his way around guns). Joachine is another one. What happened to Robert as in Mitchum or Jimmy as in Stewart.

Morgan Freeman proved to be the most popular of all possible fictional celebrity candidates, winning 81% of his head-to-head match-ups, while Denzel Washington came in just behind him with 76%. Tom Hanks and Samuel L. Jackson each won 73% of their matchups, while Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson fell just behind them, winning 72%.
The Daily Show and YouGov also offered some helpful breakdowns by party. Among just Republicans, Morgan Freeman won 86% of his match-ups, while Judge Judy (81%), Clint Eastwood (80%), NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (79%) and Tim Allen (78%) came in behind him. Back when I was on Twitter year ago, I accidentally became friends with Gary Sinise girlfriend (no idea if they still date). It was months before I found out who she was.
At the time I was travelling to Los Angeles frequently, every other week. She assumed I was in the entertainment industry.
One day I got a hesitant DM from her asking if I "was an FOA". Confused I had to ask what that was, and found out it is Friend of Abe.
So that snide little tweet is ignoring that there are a lot in the entertainment industry who will vote for Trump in November. They just won't appear at the RNC convention because they want to keep their jobs.
There is, however, no social or economic cost to being a proud and loud supporter of any Democrat or Democrat cause.

But it is the way they (allegedly) tried to sneak it through that seems to be the problem. The claim is they "laundered" it through a second entity ... and Bannon paid Kolfage out of that. That seems really dumb .... Bannon is not accused of taking money himself, except maybe normal expenses.
Kobach is not named with the others, so maybe he was not involved in that part of it.

Instead what is alleged is that the four of them set up a shell company that submitted invoices to the non-profit that were fake, and that was used to pay Kolfage. And there are communications that say they did that for the purpose of keeping his compensation confidential.
If all of that is true, that is fraud plain and simple, and there is intent.

I shared with her that most people are very trusting and not very inquisitive.
The trusting nature in our society goes back to our liberal western heritage. As that heritage is weakened more people are not only less trusting but more dishonest. The cultures and government of 90% of the counties that the 30 million illegal aliens are from are built on bribery and mismanaged bureaucracies.
We need more distrust of government, bureaucracies, education, and science. I have decide to assume that almost every article or new report is wrong. I look for those errors and lies. If just 20% minorities would wake up and look around they would see that their big government rulers do nothing to help their cities, schools, or families.
I think your point number is very real and a real issue. Most people have gotten intellectually lazy and actually believe the gas-lighting they hear every day. There is no doubt in my mind that college drives the intellectual curiosity out young peoples mind by creating a culture of fear and self-suppression.
Most big college campuses are about as free as an East Berliner in 1970.

They (the dogs) could sense, from hundreds of yards away, when a person was trying to penetrate the perimeter. One of those dogs litter sits in my house. Just sayin

The convention is the big line of cocaine you give your most loyal supporters to get them excited about working for pretty much free and endlessly over the next two to three months to elect a guy you will never meet to the presidency.
You bring everyone together and throw a several day long party celebrating everything about the political party and the presidential nominee. You build connections and the ability to network with other people in the campaign, building actual connections that you can rely on in the future instead of just email signatures and talking heads on a screen.
This is going to end up being a disaster for the campaign. No one's excited, the organizing function of the campaign is hobbled, and the sense of community is gone.
Biden was already facing an enthusiasm problem, and this is just making it worse.

Pretty sure the top officials at other charities and political groups draw down a good chunk of change.

Pretty sure the top officials at other charities and political groups draw down a good chunk of change.
Toss a few of those in jail too and you might drain a bit of the swamp.

The political orgs, "non-profits", think tanks, PACs, and unions are nothing but parasites and thieves.

FL worries me the most - that's 29 EVs Trump can hardly afford to lose. 3 major unfavorable changes since last election:
1.) Felons reinstated to vote
2.) Many Puerto Rican refugees from that hurricane a few years back are now residents and eligible to vote (Trump villain-ized there)
3.) Unknowns about seniors freaking out and emotional voting decisions amidst China lung aids.
This brings a lot a risk to that previous thin margin - hope I'm very wrong!

If you reduce each elected incumbent's power, the dish has to be spread thinner. Obviously no legislator is going to vote to diminish his/her power, so the only way is to increase the total number who hold the same power.

About 4 months ago, I got an email offering me (& all other donors) a FULL REFUND immediately upon request, because of controversies concerning some of their expenditures.
About a month after THAT, I got another email from Kolfage AGAIN offering a FULL REFUND, & announcing that less than 1% of donors had requested a refund in response to the first email.
It's so gd NICE of the fn liberals to protect conservative anti-immigration activists like me from this. /s
I wonder if a jury will be allowed to hear that ALL the donors were offered a full refund months BEFORE the indictment?
Let's just say that's not how Bernie Madoff did it.
