Great Progressive Rock band from Venice: Le Orme. Started out in the early 70s as a more melodic, less show-offy Emerson, Lake & Palmer-styled trio ("Felona e' Sorona" is their masterpiece from that era) then became a 4-piece in the mid-70s, shifting to more of an Arena-Rock/Prog Lite style ("Verita' Nascoste" is best from that period) and then in the late 70s shifted again to an all-acoustic format, "Unplugged" way ahead of their time, as they adopted a completely unique prog/classical/folk hybrid. Teriffic LP from this era is "Florian," named for a cafe in Venice that featured live music in the vein of that on the album.

Pardon me if I think the Bannon story is rather comical. We all knew that SDNY has been cooking up some "big prosecution" that they could announce a few weeks before the election to throw some shade on Trump, leftists have been gleefully anticipating this.
So time comes, and all they can dredge up is some disgraced former adviser who Trump got pissed off at and threw out 3 years ago? Really? People talk about the uniparty all the time because it's true. For years, politicians on both sides of the aisle came to DC and played within the bright lines of what was and what wasn't permissible not by law but by the rules the DC swamp created and the rewards were enormous. Trump is threatening to tear it all down. He is not a politician, he is not part of the game. He came to destroy the game and upend the self-serving DC insider game. The swamp is enormous and it is not bounded by people in government or even in the US. It involves powerful interests around the world and involves trillions of dollars. The Clinton Foundation with all it's tentacles is a prime example. In reality it was a money laundering and influence peddling scam and it includes billions and even touches on things as wide ranging as middle east peace and the CCP virus. Posted by: Insomniac - Ex Cineribus Resurgo at August 20, 2020 10:19 AM (NWiLs) You know what, Som? Good on you for getting it done. Something that is hard to accept and understand - people give you crappy jobs because they know you can get it done. I used to work in a professional services gig where billability was the metric for your performance. Every week it was pounded into you that you needed to be at 85% or better or you would be let go. I was consistently at about 50%. And when I got assignments, they were always crappy, projects that had gone bad, and needed to be rescued. I understood this as a sign - we aren't giving you enough assignments to be as billable as we say you need to be. And when we give you one, it is going to suck. So when I put in my 2 weeks notice, my boss was super surprised. Turns out, they kept me on the bench so they could send me to the rescues. And they sent me to them, it was because they knew I would fix it. Of course the first time they told me that was when I put in my resignation, so bad leadership on their part. The DOJ usually doesn't indict unless it has a rock solid case. Well, before Obama they didn't, anyway.
Posted by: sniffybigtoe at August 20, 2020 10:20 AM (1ISKN) I saw the splash public announcement of the Bannon arrest - its hilariously over the top for what looks like minor wrists slaps even if proven, which looks hard to do. Public statements are not quite the same as legal organizing agreements and disclaimers used while fund raising are probably being conveniently ignored by the SDNY to make the case sound ultra-nefarious for the public. But huge public splashes like this for public political figures suggest PR versus real crimes of any weight or merit. Hopefully, after the election, Trump cleans out the SDNY, which is overly political and prone to this PR stunt prosecutions. Posted by: Boswell at August 20, 2020 10:29 AM (w2LAm) 314

No one is pleading guilty here and publicly written disclaimers on use of funds by the organizers for expenses, etc that the organizers feel are necessary are not going to be announced by over-zealous prosecutors. I don't know how this turns out, but I have a feeling this case will die out after the election and devolve quietly into a plea down to some nominal fine to make it go away by the defendants and the prosecutors. Posted by: Brian in New Orleans at August 20, 2020 10:27 AM (CQ3Qb The crime of defrauding investors or donators is a fairly common assertion, and very, very difficult to prove in court. Most organizations that raise investor funds or solicit donations have lawyers craft air tight public disclaimers - and yet these charges of fraud continue since they give prosecutors a huge PR win for the moment. I would highly doubt that the defendants here don't prevail in some manner once this hits the courts or get this plead out to some nominal wrist slap - often the huge purposeful PR splash sought by prosecutors a the time of indictment for something that the public isn't even following is the tell that this "arrest" is more for show than go... I've always been confident that Bannon was just another member of the Grifter class, who found his niche on scamming our side, BUT.... When you mention "selective enforcement", you must know that is what is happening to Bannon. That's the only reason he's been charged. Why do I know that? Because the Dirty Little *BIG* Secret (which is no "secret" at all) about Political Finance is that EVERY Fundraiser and EVERY political campaign and EVERY Go-Fund-Me and EVERY Click-To-Contribute link and EVERY campaign manager and EVERY congressman and EVERY senator does exactly what Bannon has just been charged with doing - and they do it EVERY DAY. And they all know it, and they all laugh about it. Campaign Finance Law has been carefully constructed from the very start to be nothing but that thing the Connected People can use to take out their political enemies, nothing more. That's the only reason it exists at all - anyone who believes any different is just another one of the chumps in the audience, watching the show. Want to see what "selective enforcement" looks like? Because the process to get people buried at Arlington Nat'l Cemetery is rather involved, we we're really grieving anymore (Dad passed 18 months ago). It was really more a solemn acknowledgement of "mission accomplished." Dad was former SeaBee and a firm believer that something not over-engineered was not built correctly. So, the urn he pre-selected for his ashes was this huge, heavy marble box. The sailor that had to get the urn out of the coffin ended up having quite the struggle. My brother and I said afterwards that that sailor will remember Dad forever and Dad wouldn't have expected anything different! By the way, this is why I never bought into that the Clinton Foundation would be charged with fraud or a conspiracy to scam donators - the amount of legal disclaimers involved and the high power legal assistance associated with such an organization gives sober DOJ folks pause - its one thing to make a high profile haw haw PR arrest for fraud like the Bannon case, its quite another to prevail in court. SDNY is going for the political PR win today, and will just eat the court case later if it comes to that - but will be a lot more sober minded with the Clintons.

Damn errands! Late to the thread,
This is a lovely painting. Everything revolves around the soft body and textures of a young woman. The gentle colors, full bloom growth, and blended brush strokes evoke the lush, gentle curves of the girl. Even her expression is relaxed and contemplative. I can't imagine viewing this and not feeling tensions easing. The other possible aspect is that older viewers know moments like this are fleeting for adults and wish they could recapture such moments. CBD, thanks for such a gorgeous selection. 458 The Manhattan DA gets to subpoena Trumps tax returns.
Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy at August 20, 2020 10:55 AM (jcBGX) That's always been a red herring. They want them because they suspect there's something in there that will be politically embarrassing that they can leak before election day. After November 5th, it becomes completely pointless, and Trump could let them go out - although I doubt he will, just because it annoys the Left so much when he refuses to do what they tell him to do. The reason we KNOW that there is nothing criminal in them - the New York State Revenue Service went through them all with a fine toothed comb years ago, as did the Internal Revenue Service. Does anyone really think there is something in there that all the lawyers and accountants in those two agencies missed? The idea is preposterous. There's nothing criminal there. Posted by: Captain Hate at August 20, 2020 11:01 AM (y7DUB) That, in fact, is the least of his crimes, although it got a lot of publicity. The Fraud trial, about all the money he stole from his clients and his employees, has been delayed due to the Covid nonsense, but when that finally gets going that's the one that should give him an effective life sentence. it's too bad no one will cover it, because the charges there are truly breathtaking.
