Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Quarantine Cafe: The Six Million Dollar Man EditionClassic opening of the Six Million Dollar Man tv show. Opening of one of the first Six Million Dollar Man tv movies, which is similar to, but different than, the opening of the series that followed. Here's a short video about Steve Austin's flight from a novel called "Cyborg" to the TV screen. Opening of The Bionic Woman spin-off. Here's the actual footage of the experimental lifting body prototype shown flying, and then crashing, in the Six Million Dollar Man opening. The lifting body is the Northrop M2-F2. The actual pilot was Bruce Peterson, who was, yes, "seriously injured" in that crash. In fact, he lost an eye (as Steve Austin did). However, he otherwise recovered after a long hospitalization. Brief bit from Steve Austin's fight with Bigfoot. Because it was too unbelievable for the show to feature an actual Sasquatch, they made their Bigfoot a bionic robot created by space aliens to scare people away from their hidden base. No really, that's the plot as I remember it. I'm only guessing at the "to scare people away" part, but what else could it be? Although most people know that Andre the Giant played Bigfoot (the Alien Robot) in the first of the Bigfoot appearances, he was replaced by Ted Cassidy -- Lurch from the Adams Family -- for the next two appearances. That's a lot of episodes with an alien Bigfoot robot. One episode of an alien Bigfoot robot is a lot of episodes with an alien Bigfoot robot, actually. Steve Austin punches special guest villain John Saxon in the face, and makes a horrifying discovery. More of Steve Austin's and Jamie Summers' fights with the robots and their female variations, the "Fembots." Steve Austin once Pulled a Marvel and had to fight someone with the exact same powers as himself. Here's Austin vs. The Seven Million Dollar Man. I think he cost a bit more because both of his arms were bionic. Jamie Summers had a bionic dog. I think he might have been an earlier experimental effort for bionic implants. He was called Maximillian. Because he only cost a million dollars. Were all the bionic experiments coded by cost? I guess so. A compilation of the various bionic characters. Scene from a Steve Austin/Jamie Summers reunion movie in 1987. There were three reunion movies. The second one set up a Bionic Girl. The girl was played by pre-Speed Sandra Bullock. Overview of the Six Million Dollar Man toy line. Sold separately: Steve's space capsule/bionics operating theater. Mattel crapped out this Six Million Dollar Man ripoff, "Pulsar Man." This wasn't a Bionic Man figure, but I wanted to get one, because Steve had so few enemies: "The Incredible Dr. Steel," either a friend or foe to the GI Joe competitor "Big Jim." Footage from an unaired pilot, The Bionic Fox. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1
Former Vice President Joe Biden called for a nationwide mask mandate to fight the spread of coronavirus.

The corona virus probably won't kill a million, but it will sicken many millions with the "long CoVID" effect. They're going to be fatigued and not able to work the jobs they used to. They are also going to have ravaged internal organs. Guess how they vote. By "they" I of course mean "you", for a lot of you. Because you're not taking precautions and are rather vocal about it. Speaking of which: If you've never seen "Chargeman Ken!", the early '70s Japanese kids TV show, it is a hoot-and-a-half.
It's basically the WORST animated show of all time, with about one frame every four or five seconds, and the same images recycled over and over and over, not just from episode to episode, but even within episodes. There is essentially ZERO character development, and no explanation o the setup. From what one can discern, Ken and his sister and pet alien live on Mars or somewhere like that, and every episode these tentacle-aliens show up about 90 seconds in, and Ken then "charges" up, gains the ability to fly, then does a bunch of jiu-jitsu moves and shoots the aliens dead with his raygun. The exact same shooting scene and exact same aliens in every episode. It's entertaining in the "I can't believe this is even real" way. Chargeman Ken!. Look for it. Although most people know that Andre the Giant played Bigfoot (the Alien Robot) in the first of the Bigfoot appearances, he was replaced by Ted Cassidy -- Lurch from the Adams Family -- for the next two appearances.
One of the things that pissed Cassidy off was that he was always being confused with Richard Kiel. Cassidy was a trained actor, and grumbled that Kiel was just a huge freak with no talent other than being able to look menacing. One urban legend about Cassidy - which I don't have the time to check out right now - was that, after his death, his ashes were buried in the backyard of his house, but when the family decided to move, they couldn't remember where they had buried the urn. So, supposedly, there is a house in CA with Lurch's ashes in their backyard. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing at August 13, 2020 08:23 PM (2JVJo) 152

My hubby has 4 employees. The lone female has insisted on wearing a mask from day one of the Wuhan flu crisis. He has an "essential" business and has never closed. He has never said a word about her wearing a mask. If she wants to, it's up to her. He made lots of changes like separate work stations, plexiglass dividers, signs telling people not to come in if sick, curbside service, etc.
Meanwhile, she called in this morning early and said she won't be in until Monday because she was sick and getting tested for the Virus and couldn't come until the results were in. I said, based on the snotty sign she had her work station about her mask wearing being a "decision based on intelligence" and that she didn't want any questions about it from the customers, I thought it would be ironic if she was he only one who was laid low by disease. He hadn't seen the sign. I certainly hope she isn't in trouble about it now. Posted by: The Wife at August 13, 2020 08:29 PM (rw1l7) 195

I think James Taylor is as big a twat as Neil Young.

Which, of course, makes no sense. It's not like the show played the entire song. No one is going to bootleg a record from a TV show snippet. And sing whatever he wants to sing. It really pisses me off that some artists change their biggest hits. Those effing songs are why you have 300 feet of oceanfront on Malibu, an apartment on the 50th floor in NYC, that paid the bills when you want to fly by private jet anywhere in the world. Some guys can't hit the high notes any more, but get a backup singer to hit them, like Elton John did. And not every top hit needs to be played either. There are always board games.
- My mother bought a literary board game thinking there'd be questions like, "Who advised Laertes to neither a borrower or lender be?" . Instead, you just made books of an author's works and whoever had the most won. Since all the author's cards were printed on each card, it wasn't much of a challenge. Just glanced at it, but I think the RI SCOTUS decision (declining to stay) was a different kind of bad news. RI seems to be planning to vitiate the security aspects of absentee voting (signature verification), and the court declined to block that. A standing issue, I think, not on the substance. But, in effect, diluting the security aspects of normal absentee ballot procedures would produce something closer to "mail-in voting" as some would like to see it.

Posted by: JuJuBee at August 13, 2020 09:55 PM (mNhhD) ~~~~~ I had to use the Three Stooges lunch box for two years until I got a cousin's hand-me-down red plaid lunch box with matching thermos. I still have it. Posted by: IrishEi at August 13, 2020 10:06 PM (sGotD) 861
Negative. I was a huge Stooges fan. Hardly any girls I knew were.
Posted by: JackStraw at August 13, 2020 10:03 PM (ZLI7S) ~~~~~ I liked the Stooges too, but not enough to carry the lunchbox around every day. But, I was the youngest with a slew of older brothers so hand-me-downs were...interesting. Posted by: IrishEi at August 13, 2020 10:10 PM (sGotD) 862

I just tried to post a bunch of recent headlines from theconservativetreehouse.com to illustrate my point that I'm not seeing any insanity, there, but apparently the hamsters don't like that so my attempt to comment just brought me to an error page.
But, yeah, that's the site, theconservativetreehouse.com. Take a look, and I'm confident that you'll see zero insanity there. Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler at August 13, 2020 10:20 PM (H3MF8) 864

Back in the early 70s in Memphis a buddy of mine wanted us to go on a double date to Overton Square with his first date. He wanted to impress his date as he heard about some singer and piano playing guy. Me and my girlfriend agreed to go along. Friday night, no cover charge just a few drinks before the show. Great music and great show.
A couple of years later we learned it was Billy Joel. Posted by: Alf767 at August 13, 2020 10:29 PM (idVkM) 866
My cousin called to wish me a belated happy birthday and we had a long chat on the phone. He is the only one in my family who is as conservative as I am and we had a great talk. He's an interesting character - a published author, musician, Orthodox priest and a very well-read man.
Anyway, he and his wife live in Davenport, IA and he urged me to job hunt there. He loves living there and praised the low cost of living, the restaurants, the feel of the place. I have never been there. The first thing I think of when I think of living on the banks of the Mississippi - is floods. And I wasn't really considering moving to a city, although Davenport isn't a very big one. I was looking at moving to Northern Wisconsin, but I'm not finding a lot of jobs I can apply to. On the plus side, it sounds much saner than Milwaukee - and Wisconsin. I'd know my cousin and his wife and I'd rather talk to those two than my closer relatives these days. It's a 3 and a half hour drive from here so I could still make it back for holidays. Can anybody give me more info about Davenport? Posted by: Donna&&&&&&V at August 13, 2020 10:31 PM (HabA/) 867

Lynda Carter in the 80s or Gal Gadot now?" ===== I truly believe a dilemma like this will be what finally drives some genius to harness the power of time travel. Posted by: Kensington at August 13, 2020 10:34 PM (IRDr0) 869

Hasbro's attempt to make a Six Million Dollar Man imitator for GI Joe was Mike Power, the Atomic Man. His one bionic leg allowed him to run 200 mph. Apparently only in a circle, though, as his other leg wasn't bionic. The bionic leg, and his one bionic arm were cast in clear plastic. Hasbro licenced GI Joe to Takara Toys of Japan who sold them there under the Combat Joe name. The licence gave them broad enough rights to make other toys using the GI Joe molds. They made an action figure totally out of clear plastic with opaque mechanical parts in the hollow places and called him Henshin Cyborg. Also note GI Joe, Henshin Cyborg, and The Six Million Dollar man were all 1:6th scale, about 12" tall. Big Jim was more 1:8th at about 10"

Also, The Six Million Dollar Man and Sasquatch made an appearance on The Venture Brothers. An...unconventional portrayal, but still funny.

Youre definitely better off watching these snippets from the show, as The Six Million Dollar Man was an excruciatingly boring show a lot of the time. I just realized this while watching it recently on one of the broadcast channels.
