That *should* be the case, but it hasn't been for a while. Lefties have been doing this for years, such as the anti-capitalist people protesting at the homes of CEOs, and more recently, Trump admin people. In those cases, the police have been pretty d@mn useless. They allow it, stand by as it happens.
I have no sympathy for the police and blue city/state leaders finally getting a taste of this.

I have to admit that I never really expected to see brownshirts here. Now that they are I can see my error in not recognizing how it was all being set up, but still. Let this also be a lesson about the idea of warning shots.
If the DA's are hot to trot about "brandishing" be aware that they do not believe in such things as warning shots.
Take out the threat if you need to. Do not advertise that you're serious by firing a round into the ground or the sky. You may be trying to de-escalate the situation and get someone to actually retreat, but you'll be in jail as a consequence.

If you're facing pantifa, carry a few cans of pepper spray (or bear spray), a couple of stun guns, a stick (20"-30" long, for whaling on fools) and a bunch of big zip-ties (3/8", for collecting fools).
Next time, they are likely to force a physical confrontation. Shooting one of them will be tough; spraying 10 all at once will be much easier.
Next time, they are likely to use pepper spray first.
Have goggles/wrap-around safety glasses, leather gloves (gardening type) and a couple of masks with a wax paper covering taped over the outside (just the top and top half of the sides, so you can still breathe), to keep the mask from being saturated.
There are safety goggles (blue, red, green) available on Amazon and eBay (about $9.00 each) that purport to protect eyes from lasers.
Check into this. IDK if they work, but there is a chance they do, and there is a chance that you might really wish you were wearing one.

I had my first UberEats delivery to the Hood, on Sunday.
I had to drive into the Carmelitos housing project.
It wasn't horrible-- it was daytime, people seemed friendly, there was zero graffiti, the buildings seemed kept up, there were lawns, and a lot of decent or nice cars-- but still, I was relieved when I found the apartment, dropped off the food and was able to leave. :-P

I don't think it matters where you are. Warning shots are a "Do Not Pass Go. Go Directly To Jail." offense.
So, yeah, try to retreat or stand your ground. But not wise to advance or fire warning shots. This is serious, life-altering stuff. Keep your head straight at all times. If adrenaline/pressure is too much to handle, do not put yourself in an even worse situation. Also, consider Self-Defense Insurance before you think you are going to face this type of situation.

Fuck that. And these "trained law enforcement officers" (a.k.a. "cops" but in this day and age in the English language we HAVE to use, say, 20 syllables where 3 would suffice) have left MUCH to be desired these past weeks of "pandemic" and shutdown. There have been some departments that have done very well, and others that have completely sucked.
This reminds me of some years back when a citizen legally defended himself from a robbery or some such incident in Lubbock, and some Lubbock cop got on media and wagged his finger in the citizens face, admonishing him to "leave it to professionals". Apparently he did not grasp that had said citizen done so, he might have well been murdered. But yeah, he was supposed to just hang out and let the police do the job because they are the ONLY ones to do the job.
On that score, fuck them.
In Austin, the police force is about to be gutted, and city council even wants to demolish the police HQ downtown. (But they want to heavily fund abortion; never mind they already lease some Austin city property to Planned Parenthood for $1 a year.) They want to suspend the police academy for a year and oh, by the way, waiting in the wings is the Dem candidate for DA, who has said that any time a Austin cop fires his gun, he will be sent before the grand jury.
But to the chagrin, no doubt, of Austin city government, people can and do conceal-carry in Travis County. Expect the death toll to mount, indeed, as people realize that the government as a whole cannot and will not perform the basic function of maintaining law and order, and that miscreants and criminals are better off being shot dead, rather than left to a strained PD and worse to a DA who will have no interest in prosecuting anyone because "mass incarceration".
Yeah, but they need to wait around for "trained law enforcement officials".

I suspect the vast majority of the counties in the US is patrolled by a handful of deputies every night, and 30+ minute response times are not unheard of.
And I bet most of those sheriffs encourage residents to own firearms and know how to use them for obvious reasons.

Frozen pizzas aren't hard to modify. I used to do it all the time. Extra cheese plus anything else I fancy at the time. All it takes is a good base pie then just start piling your toppings on. May have to cook it a little longer, but that's not much of a drawback.
I liked those little Totino cheap pizzas. But a frozen stuffed crust will work as well.

1) The idea that I should just sit around and wait on the cops is not just bloody stupid. It's highly impractical.
2) There are a lot of idiot trends in the English language these days but among the worse ones is the use of the term "first responder" to describe cops and firefighters. In fact, THE "first responders" are the people on the scene. Period.

Yeah. My favorite low-carb pizza crust contains almond flour and surprising amounts of mozzarella. It sounds weird, but it works. It's not like real pizza crust, but I don't think there's a way to do that in low-carb world. Part of the pleasure of real pizza is how the crust turns sort of sweet in the mouth, as carbs do, which one never notices until one stops eating them.

Re: the explosion at the port--I get that the red smoke is from the
fertilizer--is the white cloud an explosion or did the grain silo just
get blown to dust and that's the cloud we see expanding?
The expanding cloud is what is known as a Wilson cloud. When the shock wave from a huge explosion passes, it leaves behind a low pressure. In that low pressure water vapor in the air condenses and forms the expanding cloud you see. It is called a Wilson cloud because Dr Wilson used the same effect when he invented the cloud chamber used to see some types of nuclear radiation. The effect was first noticed in the Atomic bomb tests after WW2.
