Luck of the draw, but I got a slim attractive 30ish female (eat ur hearts out boys)...
After ???s about how I wanted it cut, she blurts out "If a Democrat gets into office, we are doomed." No, I had no Trump gear on. "They are all crazy", she adds.
Now that was a fun haircut and conversation, and she got a nice tip at the end.

I love the Trump solution of giving the Federal dollars directly to the parents so they can send them to the school of their choice.
It would break the back of the public teacher unions.
According to one of my brothers, whose wife has been teaching for about three decades at the same public school, that amount around here is a touch over $12k.
A dozen parents could hire a private teacher for that. And the kids learning? Compare it to some online zoom class.
Not to mention the need for kids to socialize and learn people skills.
It's like the Democrat teachers unions have no idea what socialization for kids means.
Sacrificing the future of their own children is fine and dandy for Democrat teachers.

Regarding crazy tape measure bitch, the guy who tried to run over pro-police demonstrators, along with the specimens featured in Ace's earlier thread (and really just in general)...there seems to be a vast number of people with undiagnosed mental illness. And I'm not just talking about bossy assholes, shitheads and leftists (but I repeat myself), I mean just genuinely disturbed folks.
I'm wondering if it would be possible as a therapeutic measure to strap these people down into a device that could just slap them repeatedly. Like gloved hands attached to a giant flywheel powered by a dude pedaling a stationary bicycle.

Curious how things can change so quickly for political reasons.
Socialization is important, and it can still be accomplished if you get connected with homeschool groups and take advantage of the various events and gatherings they offer so kids can make friends, get out of the house, do fun stuff, etc. Unfortunately, my homeschool experience was not like that.

There's also a statement from the Austin Chief of Police. AKtard was at the driver's door and pointed the rifle at the driver. The first five shots were from the driver and all hit AKtard. The subsequent three shots were an antifa "medic" who fired at the car as it left. AKtard never even got a shot off.

There's also a statement from the Austin Chief of Police. AKtard was at the driver's door and pointed the rifle at the driver. The first five shots were from the driver and all hit AKtard. As we got older and us kids would come back to visit we always start there. The place was cramped and full of cigarette smoke. We'd usually enter through the alley backdoor. Suburban alley where the utilities are run.
If it was busy you'd walk back to the kitchen and grill your own burger.
Last two visits were with all my brothers for the folks funerals.
Someday I'll tell you about hanging out in a bar with one of my grandmas!

In the June 23 primary election in NYC, done by mail only, local offices, about 1 in 5 votes has been tossed. In Chicago, a newspaper did a test of 100 mailed ballots, and 3 of them didn't get returned, after they mailed them to a PO Box and went to pick them up.

After the normal rainy season (October), the 3G dam's water level is maxed out at 175 meters.
Current levels are 163 meters, and they have plenty of room to open gates to lower the excesses.
If course things downstream are fucked at the moment. But they'll flood out downstream before they endanger the dam.
Water levels are drawn down from 175m for hydro and irrigation purposes.
The real issue is outflows before the rainy season ends. I have data on outflow rates, but I don't have access to them at the moment.

One of my favorite bars in the world? I went once. On a date. It was in the 50s...just east of 5th Ave. I think it was in a Trump hotel...or maybe the Palace. Anyway, it was a small, ground floor room with lots of comfortable leather seats and a classic NYC bartender. Dark, but with enough soft light to be able to enjoy the surroundings. Great drinks, and it was a successful date, so....

One of our dancers, who was named Ronnie Dawn, had become a Penthouse Centerfold about a month or so earlier. It was a Friday evening and I saw her leaving about 10 PM with one of the other dancers. A couple of years later, I ran into the other dancer, at another club, and asked her about that night. She said the two of them had gone to several clubs and had flirted with a bunch of guys. One of them, who was really hot about Ronnie, was a black drug dealer, with a brand new black BMW.
Ronnie wasn't particularly interested in him, and told her friend "Lets go". Ronnie said she needed to get gas, so they stopped at a Shell station. Ronnie was filling the tank up when a brand new black BMW pulled up beside her. It was the drug dealer, who had followed them when they left. Ronnie told him "No", but he wasn't the kind of guy who took no for an answer, so he shot and killed her.
I asked her if she had told the police that story. She said "Yes, but they didn't seem very interested." Ronnie Dawn's murder has never been solved.

Back when I used to read the Weekly Standard, I could never finish a Boot article because his writing style was so awkward. Steve Hayes and Andrew Ferguson wrote entertaining prose but Boot was just terrible, which obviously didn't bother the Rear Admiral assuming he did any supervising. Fred Barnes wrote fine too.

Excuse my choices words. Outflow rate is the term used by the database I'm working off of.
The spillways can handle a maximum rate of "x" (I don't have that number in front of me).
As long as the inflows from upstream can be managed, the dam is in no real danger.
The issue is what "x" is, and how long it can be maintained without damage to the spillways.
Additionally, how bad are conditions downstream. They're flooded everywhere already. Maximum discharges will make a bad situation worse.
This year's harvest is lost.
The ability to navigate the Yangtze is, I would imagine, compromised. A lot of the goods we buy from China, come down this river network.

Prior to going to the UW, I was a night DJ at KGRG-FM, Green River Community College, Auburn WA. Could play almost anything I wanted. They didn't have that many albums, but I brought stuff from home and from friends.
It was the first full year, after the part time start up the spring before.
I went back there to visit a few years ago, because I was in the neighborhood and had some time.
The campus had at least doubled in buildings and a lot of the woods were gone. It was nearly unrecognizable.

1) A real possibility, and I'm gonna look at those historical outflow rates in the AM.
2) Seeing as they store water up to 175 meters every year, I rate this possibility as low.
3) 185.5 meters is over the top. They would have to experience biblical flooding upstream. Based on the last month's worth of data, I would be hard pressed to think that weather conditions could get any worse than they've been to date. But never say never. And again, the ability to release water in amounts greater than what's coming in from upstream is the wildcard.

Heya, Jim! Ecuador is actually rather hand-tied over this. They owe money to China so their leverage is limited. Greenpeace, the World Wildlife Federation, and Sea Shepherd are no help. China's fishing fleet is overwhelmingly huge for them. And this isn't the first time they've done it.
It's mostly the sharks China seems to want. I guess they eat a lot of shark meat.

Shakey's had the best all-you-can-eat lunch any high school kid could love. And their draft root beer wasn't too bad, either. Their pizza sauce seemed spicier/more heat than most. Plus those old movie serials and the Three Stooges on a video loop and the player piano for ambiance. Fun place. They only had long tables with family seating (meaning any family could be at your elbow) and I think Pizza Hut's booth seating helped kill it off.

Ordinarily, perhaps. But such flexibility does not extend to The Zone.
Equador considers those islands the Crown Jewel of their National Pride. They might not fight the U.S. Navy over an incident; they're not fools.
But I think they'd calculate the odds of drawing China's emerging fleet out across 10,000 miles of ocean, into Equador's Home Waters, and seeing whose supply lines hold up the longest.
And I don't think Equador would find itself alone in a defense of the Galapagos. It's too Holy a Touchstone for the Usual Suspects to weigh in AGAINST a strong defense.

If someone wanted to contact you, they could call a central number to leave their phone number using your phone number as a key.. At some point you will be pushed too far, if you are not just a glob of supine jelly (and you never have shown that tendency, thank God) but you should do some reflection as to what you think is too much, so you know how to react instead of deciding on the fly whether to knuckle under or be forced.

What I understand about the 3Ganges construction is that they cheaped out and didn't secure the middle of the dam into the underlying granite. Rather it is just sitting on top of it. If you see a recent pic of it, and the middle bows a bit, that's where it is.
As a WA native, and with the many dams on the Columbia River as well as smaller dams on Western WA rivers, I always had an interest in them. As a kid, I found them fascinating. The Grand Coolee Dam is a masterpiece. And very, very safe.
The Chinese Communist Party knew they were cutting corners when they built it. A huge flaw.
Everyone knew it, too. But just like a Blue State governor that has the political power to destroy their state's economy, so does the CCP. All rivers will have rainy seasons, and properly designed dams can be a life saver.
3 Ganges has only been alive for 5 years. This is the first really rainy season it has lived in.
If this dam doesn't burst this year, there is always the next, even rainier season. Because eventually, it's coming.

I posted a link to a story a few nights back about something that happened during construction of the Three Gorges Dam. The gist of it was that the Chinese government brought in some western engineers to evaluate the work being done. The westerners said that the rebar welding looked shoddy. The Chinese welders complained that the westerners were being racist. By the time the matter was settled, the concrete was already curing.

Because more testing is being done in a weekend than in a typical flu season, in its entirety, we *might* have a better estimate for the denominator used to calculate IFR. But probably not. Serology is key to that, not the very poor diagnostic testing going on.
And stratified for age and medical condition, an IFR far below flu, and excluding the majority of the population entirely.

Yes. If you look at the geography, it would be a no-brainer. Spanish galleons sailed/rowed up the Rio San Juan, and founded a city at Granada in the 1400's.
And the range of hills between the big lake and the harbor at San Juan del Sur is maybe 1500 feet max elevation, and about 15 miles across. And most of the rock is tropically-weathered andesite that you could excavate without explosives.
But I don't the Chinese agreed to commit to building a canal. They got a long-term concession that gives them exclusive rights. But they also have big money invested in the Panama Canal, so locking up Nicaragua is just closing the door to competitors.

Not really. There are two ports run by a Hong Kong company, i.e., indirectly by China. (The 5 other ports are run by a Taiwanese, a Singaporean, and a Seattle/Panamanian company.)
I can't remember when the contract on the Hong Kong company ports runs out but it is unlikely to be renewed, given the change in HK's status.
The recent expansion of the canal was done by several European countries, with the Chinese rather conspicuously edged out of that.
Panamanians are very wary of China.
The Chinese (supposed?) interest in Nicaragua is at least in part motivated by resentment of Panama for contracting with the Taiwanese on several endeavors.
Panama does owe China money --- but then, who doesn't?

However, this shows me how they operate. They have an instinct/compulsion - for organizing and spreading their message. Normal people get involved in their church or the grandkids or their hobbies and leave everyone else alone...but not these people.

So it would be yesterday now that my alarm clock was "Geophysical" in nature as to the 4:30 AM wake up with my bed bouncing and rolling (not like days of yore.....but I digress).
Simply just another reminder of where I live. Good time to check up on the back up water supplies, stashed food stuffs, and out of state contact points. Went through my bug-out stash in my car and found some expired stuff so it was a good drill overall....and I drifted back and remembered the Northridge Ca. Quake of 2004.
Yet, all we are going through right now seems far more important and life altering. Our very country is at stake.
Earthquakes....unless 8.0 or greater....are second fiddle.

I am le sad that our local arts festival has been cancelled. It's so much fun to stroll the booths, sipping cider and looking at all the crafts (really top of the line stuff).

I am still on the fence. Certainly the use of this as a pretext is planned. However, in the early going, it seemed to me (for what that is worth, nothing) that the Chi-Coms were genuinely spooked by something. Either the unknown of what the hell just happened, or whether it was really a deadly disease is up in the air.
