There is a large... cosmopolitan workforce from all over the world. My guess is that the true numbers are higher, but the self reporting/going to the doctor is lousy.

How do you feel about Otters?

Posted by: garrett at July 30, 2020 08:07 PM (dHj0F)

42 I had an amusing experience (well I call it amusing, might as well) about an hour ago. I own and rent several small apartment units, one had been vacant for the last 6 weeks (and the old crew had gotten NASTY! glad they're gone, and don't ask me about the long long story) anyway I'd been working on it and finally got it ready to live in again, and this young girl (about 25) just moved in. She's by herself, but said she'd have a couple of boyfriends helping her move in, I said fine, I know how it goes, people are in and out when you're moving.

so I go over there today to fix some little thing that needed doing and I knew she was at work, but there's a car there, so I knock. After a bit some guy I've never met comes to the door, he says "sorry, I was just takin' a fast shower" and all he's got is this little dishrag around his midsection, and I must say he was impressive looking; I was thinking "Oh Look, it's Michelangelo's David in my place! Nice to meet you!!!" And he's just standing there, talking to me, like its nothing.

a note about meeting renters with little to nothing on - yeah, fantasy writers love to think that girls/women do that, but they NEVER do. It's ALWAYS Guys! they're the ones who love it, always them.

134 NBA players, referees all kneel as national anthem plays before Jazz-Pelicans bubble tip-off

As a pre-recorded rendition of the national anthem by New Orleans native Jon Batiste played, every player and official on the court took a knee, with some players holding raised fists in the air.

Kneeling during the anthem is technically against NBA rules, but players and officials made their plans to do so clear as a form of protest against police brutality and social injustice.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver addressed the subject in a Time 100 talk in June when asked if the league would allow players to take a knee. "I respect our teams' unified act of peaceful protest for social justice and under these unique circumstances will not enforce our long-standing rule requiring standing during the playing of our national anthem,"

140 AlaBAMA, it's even worse than that.

"Cases" - uniquely for this bug - are defined as a positive test. Not symptomatic, actual cases.

And the list of problems that cast doubt on test results, or their significance, goes on and on. Latest: positive tests can result up to *3 months* after exposure or infection, meaning they're finding RNA from an asymptomatic "case", from May, today.

And IFR, depending on location, bouncing between 0.1 (flu) and 0.3 - but of course with an extremely narrow, skewed distribution by age and initial medical condition, more than flu.

My dad's fun time retirement job was boll weavel data collector for the state ag department in central louisiana. He used to ride a four wheeler around the perimeter of cotton fields and collect dead boll weavels from the traps, scan the bar code of the bait used and enter the number of dead weavels.

Said he saw more wildlife doing that in his retirement than growing up feral during the ww2 years in central mississippi.

Beavers were a problem. The farmers would pay him to report where the damned things were building. He would offer to shoot them with his 22lr and they would pay hi again for the tails as proof.

Feds (epa) caught on to the farmer's tricks to getting rid of them and shut down the boll weavel eradication program which killed the research by the state ag department to spray the right chems to keep them off the cotton.

Still know where all the good lurke spots are for bear, gator, and white tail from dad showing me around the prettier and more interesting places during our annual motorcycle bum vacations.

222 I doubt there's gonna be an NFL season this year.

Their covid protocols are gonna shut it down.

If a player tests positive or comes in contact with someone positive, it's 5-10+ days quarantine/injured reserve.

So, if during the season a player comes down with it, and he is in contact with the rest of the team(natch), then the whole team gets quarantine/injured reserve.

Hard to play with the team in quarantine. Unless of course all the players in the NFL have it so they don't have to risk infecting others.

265 The lockdown "rules" in England become even more insane and byzantine: as of a couple hours ago, bizarre micromanaging impossible-to-keep-track-of rules were "imposed" by a government that is obviously just improvising crazy-ass shit on the fly:

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-53602362

"Separate households have been banned from meeting each other indoors in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire following a spike in coronavirus cases.

More details were published two hours after the initial announcement.

More than four million people in Greater Manchester, Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Rossendale, Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees will be affected by the tightening of restrictions.

The new measures, which came into force at midnight, mean different households will not be allowed to meet in homes or private gardens, but individual households will still be able to go to pubs and restaurants together.

However, pubs, restaurants and some other facilities will be allowed to reopen in the city from Monday, as some of the stricter measures are lifted.

It acknowledged in its statement that the measures would "come as a blow" to Muslim communities preparing to celebrate Eid this weekend.

The latest announcement in detail:

People in Greater Manchester, Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle, Rossendale, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Leicester cannot mix with other households (apart from those in their support bubbles) in private homes or gardens

People in those areas can only go to pubs, restaurants and other hospitality venues with other members of their household

From Monday in Leicester, restaurants, cafes, bars and hairdressers can open but leisure centres, gyms and pools will remain closed

Cinemas and museums will also be able to open in Leicester from Monday and religious ceremonies will be able to take place

The borough of Oadby and Wigston on the outskirts of Leicester is taken out of local lockdown

Also, gyms and leisure centres will remain closed in Blackburn, but they will be able to reopen in Luton."

Did you get all that?

Question: If you're a Muslim family in Oadby and Wigston, can you go to a hairdresser with another family from Calderdale, just so long as they're in the same social bubble as the family we're in a social bubble with???

I'm going back to the classroom. For parents who are afraid, online courses will be available through a company with which we already have a contract. Teachers will still answer questions about the subject matter for those students, but the assignments and grades will be done by that company.

Our superintendent, God bless him, thinks it's unrealistic to have us teach live courses and online courses. Plus we have a payfreeze until 2021 and will be taking paycuts after the state releases its funding figures.

Unfortunately, I have two advanced courses with no online equivalent, so I'm bracing for the mothers calling for special concessions (aka me teaching a Zoom class in the evening).

What could go wrong?

Had a double blowout (car tires on one side, not what you're thinking!) this morning. You can't talk to a human anymore -- you have to use their voice automation system, and there was no way to indicate that I needed a flatbed.
Anyway, the system said they won't allow you to ride with the tow driver now because of the CCP Virus, so I had to have my poor wife come rescue me.
The tow guy gets there and he's like us -- rolls his eyes when I tell him that and said he would have been happy to let me ride along. [He then had to put the good front tire on the bad rear so his rig could tow my car -- and I gave him a nice tip.]

USS Merrimack was set ablaze when the Feds abandoned Norfolk as they had no way to get her out. She burned to the waterline and sank. The Cornfeds recovered her and rebuilt her as CSS Virginia. She handled like a pig due to a) the immersion of her engines in salt water and b) the immense topside weight of the armor plating. Plus, she had a very deep draft.

So, yeah, kinda like a Zumwalt.

I read today Cain was told he had a 30% chance of survival in 2006 when they found Stage 4 colon cancer.

He was unfortunately in the really bad zone for Covid. Over 70, (over 80 is worse), and a significant poor health condition.

1) You can email/chat/phone the people that make your heating/cooling unit.
2) You can call your local electricity provider and ask them what 'smart' thermostat they suggest for your unit.

I never worried about a 'smart' thermostat working with my unit as long as it said "heat pump". I've followed directions and connected them without a problem.

CoVid-19 entered the Country in November of 2019, a full month before anyone here was even aware of it. It may have been even earlier, since there is credible evidence that it first broke out in China in March of 2019.

Everyone in the Country has been exposed to it, and I would say probably 30% of the population was infected, just based on the infection rates the CDC has published.

Unless Cain was being tested every day for the last 6 months there is no way you would be able to pinpoint when he got it.

He also was in the hospital for almost a month with it before he died, which is very abnormal for someone of his age an co-morbidities.

Neither you, nor I, can say when he caught it.
