And then Trump sent in federal troops to make targeted arrests and defend federal property, and the media started trumpeting what was going on in Seattle and Portland.
A week later, they're hitting the brakes hard.

May be the same play, but I kind of doubt it. This is not Ukraine. I think here the difference is that the extremely wealthy bad actors (Soros, et. al.) purchased the Dem establishment and then used the position to put their own people - people who have a "D" after their names but have no loyalty whatsoever to the Party - in charge in major local positions. Now that this is paying dividends in many major cities, why keep trying to support and enable the DNC proper?

On August 19, 1966 - Chinese students launched a fight for social justice to fight for the rights of the oppressed in China. It was widely believed that the 'patriarchal system' in China had been created by the 1% and held down women, minorities, and the working class. The students cried out for a revolution and change, and consequentially launched the infamous Chinese Cultural Revolution.
Students put a red band around their arm to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and called for a change on old ideas that they called the FOUR OLDS. The Four Olds were: Old Customs, Old Culture, Old Habits, and Old Ideas.
The movement was supported by the Chinese media.
Mass demonstrations and looting by the students ensued.
Statues were torn down.
Chinese architecture was destroyed.
Classical literature and Chinese paintings were torn apart and burned.
Temples were desecrated.
The Cemetery of Confucius was attacked.
The corpse of the 76th-generation Duke Yansheng was removed from its grave and hung from a tree.
Wealthy homes were attacked and destroyed.
Many families' long-kept genealogy books were burned to ashes.
All of history, in short, was to be removed and replaced. This was the central meaning of Cultural Revolution: That China was going to destroy every trace of its bourgeois (privileged) past and replace it with a new culture built on the principles of Maoism and Marxism.
Communist leaders like President Liu Shaoqi were taken out of power and replaced with men Mao believed were not critical of his reign.
Public leaders who were considered to be oppressive were tried by angry mobs and vigilantes.
Three days later, August 22, 1966, a central directive was issued to stop police intervention. The police were disbanded in the city and the students formed a community solution called the RED GUARD. The RED GUARDS policed the communities and punished anyone who did not agree with their ideas. Even people that supported the movement, but had bad thoughts ("wrong think") could be punished.
Though many Christians supported the movement in the beginning, they quickly became the number one target of the RED GUARDS and public trials were held to condemn them to death.
Many of those that were on board with the cause of the rebellion, in the beginning, saw that it was not really what they had signed up for, but by then it was too late. The power that the Red Guard wanted had already been given.
More people died during the cultural revolution in China than any war, famine, or natural disaster in the history of man. An estimated 20 to 30 million people were killed.

Wherever there's been a direct federal interest, and locals have failed to do their job (Portland), we have federal action.
And "Operation Legend" is in many places just a stepped up version of what was happening before, a turn of the dial - and a lot of it is not even directed at the stuff under discussion. Same for ICE actions at the moment (typically under the radar, now also obscured by all this other stuff).
The real concern is not inaction by Trump, but the likelihood that the catastrophic behavior by governors and mayors will not be punished at the ballot box, as has historically been the case, and kept the ship upright.

I'm looking for something like overhead shots that show the number of city blocks impacted, or a rolling video that shows some sort of count on shops damaged, or some other presentation that clearly illustrates the width, breadth, and depth of the problem.
Close ups of grafitti and broken glass seem plentiful, but they don't provide any real sense of context. Is the grafitti covering 30-square blocks or just one block? Broken glass for 4 square miles, or 4 square blocks?
At the moment the vids and stills I am seeing somehow remind me of History Channel civil war reinactments where 70-80 people mill around trying simulate an army of 50,000 to 60,000. In those under-manned reinactments, if they carefully place their shots close enough it kinda works, but I can see how paltry it is when the camera pulls back.
I'm reading about how bad things are, but I am beginning to wonder why there is not a ton of film to go with the text. If you have seen enough film to verify some recent words, can you tell me where to find it?

My writing group Bernie-bro who's old enough to know better had to bring his anti-Trumpism up in an email to the group this afternoon. I told him (and copied the others), "No anti-Trump stuff. Okay? Or I will have to dig up links proving that what you've been fed by the MSM is far from the truth, and I haven't the energy for that." I tell myself I took the high road, at least.

They don't have a stinger, they can't bite anything. The males are there to guard the nest the female makes when she goes and gets a cicadia to lay her egg in.
If you see their holes, you can cover them with a trash bag and that will kill them. They look like squiggles in the ground. Or if you have a bunch you can get a big plastic painters sheet and cover them all and just weight it down. They die if they can't get out.
I just leave them alone in my yard they don't really bother me and I am allergic to anything with venom. They do chase me when I am mowing the yard though.
If you want to, you can get goggles and a tennis racket. It is fun whacking them around, but if you do that you have to wear the goggles because they will come at your eyes.

The whole point of the riots in Portland now is to get a rioter killed or crippled, so that can be used as the basis for a whole new round of riots. A couple of Portland rioters have taken non-lethal rounds to the face, but that hasn't been damaging enough for their purposes.

The whole point of the riots in Portland now is to get a rioter killed or crippled, so that can be used as the basis for a whole new round of riots. A couple of Portland rioters have taken non-lethal rounds to the face, but that hasn't been damaging enough for their purposes.

Except Trump did not abandon the cities, and he did not bring in the army and marines, and he did nothing more than he could constitutionally do. There is one pic where he seems to have his gun up while in front of the car of the guy that got out and killed him. Pointing a gun at someone is "assault" as I understand it ... but even if he is not "brandishing" or pointing directly at the driver, if he stands in front of the car to (illegally) stop it with the force of the weapon in his hand ... it seems like the same as pointing the gun.

I've always liked Mark Steyn, so I'm willing to offer him credit I would never offer Jacobson. I suppose the mental feeling is foreign to me: there are quite a few ways I can think of to make my death have meaning, so to just self-deliver privately is an incredible disappointment. Especially on the eve of a rather large payout.
Still, that only encourages me. Mental resilience is going to be the primary thing people select for in the coming year, in the survival sense. In my case it's attached to a capacity for cruelty that would have utterly shocked me even seven years ago. But that's just a sign of the times.

I think have some wasp spray. If it doesn't bother me or the dog I'm fine with it. It must be male from what I have been reading.. they sort of guard the nest so the nest must be right there by the patio slightly under the deck because that's where he's hanging out.

Like you, I was worried that one might get in the house and sting me, or worse yet, one of the cats. I take the spray bomb and hunt down the ones I see buzzing around the bit of lawn in front of my apartment -- I'm trying to prevent one of them getting in, and if they're dead, that's all to the good.
I'd like to know how it got in. I naturally have the doors and windows shut tight against the heat.

But sometimes, like this time, what they "do" is a sudden change in messaging.
The message has changed from "There are no riots" and "There is no Antifa" to "Well, if there are riots, it's in reaction to what Trump did in sending in the stormtroopers" to now "These riots and this violence might be helping Trump".
They KNOW that the polling is trending away from Biden and toward Trump, and it's because videos are getting distributed SHOWING the violence, and are breaking through the Left Media embargo. That's why the message has changed twice now, and it will keep changing...but they can only change it so far.
The hard left doing the rioting and violence thinks they're winning, and the Elite Left can't take them on without risking being torn down from their perches.
A tough spot for them at the moment, but they'll come up with some sort of bullspit to put a band-aid on things. For the moment, anyway. They always do.
