I went to my grandson's American Legion final home game. It was great fun. Normally they would be playing for another few weeks, but many teams have shut down because of the Yellow Peril. They only had a few teams they could play and the Legion wouldn't consider them "official" but they didn't stop them from using the fields or equipment. They even gave them insurance. The boys had a great time playing this year and seemed grateful they got to play at all. Maybe my Twinkies will do well next year. Or maybe I will care one way or the other. We'll see. Baseball is dripping with white supremacy. The idea that black players are forced to run to bases, forced to run to catch a ball in the same way their slave ancestors were forced to work quickly in the fields. Rushing to complete a task is such a white concept. Black players are encouraged to steal bases, learning a behavior which will lead to confrontations with police and imprisonment when applied off of the field.

The reservoir level behind Three Gorges was recently at 163 meters give a few centimeters. Or about 530 ft deep.
Think about the pressure all that water is exerting on a dam face that was built as a straight light, not concave to help resist the water pressure like we see at Hoover. Then think about the ground beneath that is being squeezed by the weight of the dam and the water. Posted by: Anna Puma at July 23, 2020 08:04 PM (IQtvd) 310

Sort of on the offtopic: For fun, if you have a dam in your area, you can usually easily find the "inundation map" for that dam, showing which areas will be underwater in the event of a catastrophic failure.

Posted by: Blonde Morticia at July 23, 2020 08:30 PM (G51Gf) The real problem is the time of concentration. Even if it stops raining right now, all the runoff from previous rains on the edge of the watershed still has to get to the dam. So the water surface elevation at the dam will continue to rise even after the rain stops. Given the size of the watershed, I'd say the water is going to rise for a good long time. Posted by: G. There are no active nuclear plants along the Yangtze River Current water levels over 162 meters and rising. (top of dam 185.5m). Current weather patterns show heavy rain over the next week. Official rainy season starts at the end of the month. From the farthest point of the water shed, it take 90 hours to hit the 3G dam. I'm not a structural engineer but I've watched youtube videos vaguely related to the topic. Material quality may be critical considering the sustained flow of massive amounts of water across concrete surfaces. Cavitation and other hydrodynamic effects on the structure can run away pretty quickly and lead to failure. And the chinese aren't well known for being sticklers about material quality.
Posted by: f2000 at July 23, 2020 08:40 PM (IIUCn) This ^^^ Dams are meant to hold water and release it through the turbines to supply power. Spillways are of short terms control and that means hours of use...not days / weeks. The erosive capabilities of that much water being released at the rate of speed this is currently being measured. Holy cow, they better have poured some really stout concrete. But like I mentioned last night, smarter people than me think that they have a real honest to god problem on their hands if the rainy season shapes up the way the meteorological models indicate. That high-pitched whine that'd make you start going deaf. I drove that thing from Oregon to CA frequently, on the mountainous roads with black ice and lumber trucks. Had a friend with a 1970 that got picked up by a breeze from a passing truck and thrown onto a hillside. One thing you never had to worry about was a non-functioning heater. Many rust-belt beetle owners would disagree! I had a Super Beetle while living in Maine. The control wires and housing that opened and close the vents, they were mechanical, rusted out so ever winter I would have to seal them shut and every spring I would open them. If I drove the thing more than an hour in the winter I would have to stop and get our and let my right foot cool down. It got so damn hot that it felt like it was about to burst into flame. Sara Hoyt posts here in the Book thread, and occasionally elsewhere. She is solid, with good SF. Posted by: NaCly Dog at July 23, 2020 09:02 PM I really like her stuff at Insty, although I am not a SF fan. I do try to read items that she links from Victory Girls and According to Hoyt, but I have about 900 tabs open right now, and I am not even kidding. I have to limit the number that I open from the Morning Report so that my computer won't blow up. Also, NOOD. Posted by: Moonbeam at July 23, 2020 09:45 PM (qe5CM) 855
827 Clutch, can you figure out how to see a ten-day
forecast at windy.com? I think one needs a Premium account. Did you check it out? Posted by: Blonde Morticia at July 23, 2020 09:36 PM (G51Gf) look for the more layers, then rainfall accumulation. No acct needed. Posted by: f2000 at July 23, 2020 09:40 PM (IIUCn) Look towards the east as you look at forecasts. It's the headwaters, west of 3G that are the main watersheds for the Yangtze. Yes additional rainfall in and around 3G es no bueno, but it's the areas upstream that will really screw the folks below the dam. Posted by: browndog at July 23, 2020 09:45 PM (BgMrQ) 856

So after letting those cops get attacked (one may lose vision in one
eye) she's going to have the statue taken down a week later. Fcking communist freak Nasty bug eyed freak is doing it to appease BLM and Antifa coming to cause trouble Saturday at the pro cop rally in Grant Park. Hopefully the Feds will be there to apply some real force. Posted by: dartist at July 23, 2020 09:46 PM (+ya+t) 861
I guess I'm back to selling the team to some other burning shithole. Call 'em the Witch Hazels, and they play at Preparation H Stadium.

Jesus...
3 feet of rain expected in the environs surrounding Chungking (chongquing) over the next ten days. This is the area where the major watersheds are for 3G. Lord have mercy... Posted by: browndog at July 23, 2020 10:03 PM (BgMrQ) 868
Is it my imagination, or has the WH press corps been a little less obnoxious to PDT than usual the past few days? Someone threaten them, or kick some of them out?

He also said sodomites should be allowed to donate blood during the time that Act Up was calling for contaminating the blood supply with HIV+ blood donors.
Posted by: Emmie at July 23, 2020 07:47 PM (+ljgK) My cousin died at age 35 from AIDS, contracted from contaminated blood supply; he was a hemophiliac. Larry Allen Mann. Wanted to write his name. Larry taught me, a 15 fifteen-year-old, uncoordinated girl to drive a stick shift so I could get my driver's license. RIP, Larry. Posted by: BarcelonaCarmen at July 23, 2020 10:40 PM (QgFHh) 870
