Yes, I mentioned this morning that we are rapidly reaching the point where mass entertainment will cease to exist. I very much enjoyed Denzel in the Equalizer. Antoine Fuqua was the director, and he was the director of King Arthur (it had Keira Knightly and was filmed in a more historically accurate way- Romans were the original knights).

One of many things that turns me any time I see a new movie is the continuous, excessive profanity, even in many movies geared for kids. All the dialogue sound like a rap song or a biker bar but with better grammar. Who talks like this in day-to-day life? Back when they were making movies for American middle class types mostly they could have more complex dialog and plots...and could choose the whole of human experience. Now you need to make a movie that plays equally well in American Language/Culture and Mandarin Language/Culture that the Chinese government and the American Wokesters will both approve of.

One of many things that turns me any time I see a new movie is the continuous, excessive profanity, even in many movies geared for kids. All the dialogue sound like a rap song or a biker bar but with better grammar. Who talks like this in day-to-day life? The producers may think they are being edgy but it is just driving even more people away.

It started with Al Bundy in Married With Children. Which was a brilliant twist on the usual sitcom nuclear family thing. It was hilarous because it turned everything around. Mom and dad barely got along, kids were worthless and idiotic, dad was a loser. But that was only funny and fresh once or twice -- like with Homer, again.
When EVERY dad is portrayed that way, now its not fresh or funny or interesting any longer, its just insulting and caustic.

The films I've seen Denzel in have usually impressed me with good story values: Fallen with John Goodman was authentically creepy, and Deja Vu, a good time travel story set partly in Noo Awlins. It was a reasonably entertaining film in and of its self, like Jack Reacher, but if you've read the books then it was deeply disappointing.
They didn't make the main character black or gay, so they made the investigator that worked with him black

Have you watched Last Man Standing? Sort of Home Improvement in reverse, with three girls instead of boys, and now he does podcasts for an outdoor store chain instead of cable TV for a tool company.
The show was plagued by an early retoooling, leading to cast-changes, then a network change and more cast-changes. Seasons 1-3 are the solidest.

The black-haired girl, Molly Ephraim, who played his middle daughter for several seasons not only looked like a young Liz Taylor, but was actually funny -- beautiful and funny are not easy to combine in one person, it seems.

They had one more book to go before they got to A Horse And His Boy which is a soft critique of Islam and you knew that was never going to happen, let alone the final movie.
They claim the films don't get made because each film made slightly less money, but that was just an excuse. Each book is inescapably Christian and gets more obviously so each one and they just couldn't avoid that.

That is nonsense, not a "threat".

Yeah, I mean Much Ado is supposed to have bad acting in it, because its sort of a spoof but it did not work, aside from beautiful women in sheer clothes taking showers at the beginning. Brannagh usually does great Shakespeare but he definitely dropped the ball on that one.
I am reasonably sure that the only reason Hollywood did the First Narnia Book With The Excessively Long Name is that they though it would fail and crater like that daffy Satanist fantasy story did, but it made money.

Most of my DVDs are for older movies and some TV shows. There have been some wonderful TV series over the years: Have Gun Will Travel, Leverage, Nero Wolfe (Timothy Hutton version), Longmire, Evening Shade, and the Signed, Sealed, Delivered series on Hallmark and a very few others.
It's a good thing I've got plenty of books and music CDs for entertainment because Hollywood and 99 percent of TV is long in my past.

Later another girl tried to get me to watch Requiem for a Dream, and I was like 'nope'. Most of my DVDs are for older movies and some TV shows. There have been some wonderful TV series over the years: Have Gun Will Travel, Leverage, Nero Wolfe (Timothy Hutton version), Longmire, Evening Shade, and the Signed, Sealed, Delivered series on Hallmark and a very few others.
It's a good thing I've got plenty of books and music CDs for entertainment because Hollywood and 99 percent of TV is long in my past.

I've been more often than that -- Jurassic World hooked me and I enjoyed it, and the Bond film Skyfall was the greatest of the franchise -- but I no longer remember the movies I've seen in the same way. The original True Grit, I can remember when I watched it, and how often I went back to see it again. The new one, no.
Not much now can compare with going to see Ghostbusters, The Terminator, or Back to the Future when they were brand new, and walking out of the theatre thinking about what you just saw and discussing it with your friends.

Yeah, definitely his shtick, he's been wearing that thing since forever, or at least 10 years. But it's like these kids that wear hoodies all the freaking time. Hoodies and shorts. 98 degrees? Hoodie and shorts. 17 degrees? Hoodie and shorts.
He's going to have to change at some point I'd imagine - he's going to look kind of silly at 55 wearing a beanie. Maybe by then he'll be able to afford plugs.

Denzel is always great. Chris Pratt was great.
The rest of the movie was horrible, just horrible. Classic Hollywood re-imagining drek.
From the 'PTSD' sniper and his asian boyfriend to the ending voiceover 'they were truly the Magnificent Seven'....gag.
I mean, if you liked it, fine and good. It made my skin crawl.

I have to disagree. The 2015 MfU movie was a delight; Guy Ritchie really captured the spirit of the original show, the flavor, and delivered a wonderful period-piece spy adventure. And I say that as a BIG fan of the original.

I remember being told "American Beauty is so great!!!" so I saw it, and thought "what a giant load of crap that was!!!" That's about when I finally quit going to movies where "everyone says they're great!!!" Nope, everyone lies.
One consolation - notice how NOBODY talks about "American Beauty" anymore, nobody replays it, it's completely forgotten? I think that's going to end up happening with almost everything made in the last 20 years, they are all just brief marketing gimmicks to skim money off bored people, and little else.

Yeah I don't get it. It distracts me from the product they're selling to trying to figure out who the hell these people are. Is it a foster home? Kidnapping victims? Alien zoo?
The best are the white guy/black woman commercials. Some are believable, but others are hilarious.
The one with the TJ Miller lookalike as a passenger (of course) in his wife's car, and she's a HUGE black woman who sounds like she's auditioning for Jerry Springer. Of course she crashes the car. TJ Miller was terrified to speak.
I laughed my ass off. All I could think of was their wedding, the guests, and the reception.
I don't remember the product.

No. There are some, a few of the Marvel films (Cap 2, Avengers) but not much at all. And that is difficult for me to pin down, exactly. I know that the need to dumb down the dialog so that its easy to translate into Cantonese is a major issue. I know that directors now are much less in charge of the final product than they used to be, when entire departments are handling things like CGI and lighting that they have zero power over. I watched a great bio doc on Ray Harryhousen that told how he'd basically make his movies almost entirely on his own. He'd write and direct and animate them with almost no help at all. Now its 1 guy doing eyelids and 300 of his coworkers animating Spider Man swinging on a web for 10 seconds.
I know that there are topics and themes that they are either afraid of or unwilling to deal with.
And I know that modern writers and film makers do not understand good or evil, heroism or villainy at any level.
Somehow that and other factors all seem to combine into making tepid meh forgettable junk.
