Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Well This Is A Nice Idea! And Leftist Heads Would Explode![With which one of these people would you like to have a beer?] It will never happen, but it is a lovely idea on so many levels. Clarence Thomas for Chief Justice? The sage who really ought to be Chief Justice of the United States is looking more and more like Clarence Thomas. That's our thought as the Supreme Court concludes its term with what we reckon to be the year's most important case. That's the one on Congress's subpoenas for President Trump's tax records. Justice Thomas filed a brilliant dissent that, we predict, will come to be seen as more important than the majority opinion. What I would like to see happen is for President Trump to get input from Justice Thomas and Justice Alito on his next picks. I think we are all losing patience with The Federalist Society, and I have to assume that the justices are familiar with the current crop of conservative legal scholars. Meh. I don't know that much blame can be laid on the Federalist Society. It was founded in a somewhat genteeler legal world and has not been quick to adjust for sure. But you really don't know how a judge is going to act once appointed. Kennedy had previously written that the criminalization of gay sex was kosher, and then ruled the exact opposite on the supreme court. Posner had written the same on that subject or gay marriage and later mot only changed his mind but acted like everyone who disagreed with him was crazy.

Thomas camps at the state park on our island occasionally.
A few years ago, my husband wanted to meet him and ask him if he'd be willing to do a luncheon with someone as a fundraiser for a non-profit. Thomas' cousin actually said, "Hey, there's a funeral at Sweet Field of Eden Church this Saturday [it's in Pinpoint]. Why don't you come by after and I'll introduce you to Cuz?" My husband was kind of stunned and told him he couldn't possibly drop in after a funeral. So he didn't meet the Judge. Posted by: Jane D'oh at July 10, 2020 06:59 PM (ptqGC) 59

Hat-tip Sharkman about three nights ago:
"Trump wins in November and Rs keep the Senate and retake the House. Roberts retires due to seizures and child rape, RGB retires because she's been fucking dead for two years, and Breyer retires because he is old and nobody has really noticed he was on the Court all this time. Trump appoints Thomas to be Chief Justice (unknown if this is possible - work with me here). Trump appoints Amy Coney Barrett to replace RBG's mummified corpse, and appoints Joan Larsen (51, clerked for Scalia) to replace Breyer. Much bad faith Democrat hijinx, shenanigans and Tomfoolery later, all three are confirmed by a Senate much concerned with their own, shall we say, "Epstein Exposure". New Chief Justice Thomas is seen to smile, whilst cryptically whispering: 'Revenge is a dish best served up cold . . .'" . . . I'll be in my bunk. The worst part is, while Biden's wife and child lay dying in Wilmington Hospital, the newly elected senator did not request a delayed swearing in, did not request a remote swearing in, did not resign his seat due to the family tragedy. He went to Washington and got to work while his brother sat vigil at the bedside. Joe only returned to Wilmington for photo ops. Then has the balls to invoke the names of his dead wife and child at ever campaign stump speech. I think he has told the story so many thousands of times, that is all it is to him anymore.

Dear Federalist Society: Trying to find a conservative justice from a candidate pool that was channeled through prep schools and Ivy League law school is like trying to find a conservative girlfriend at Whole Foods.
Here's an idea when vetting the next SCOTUS justice. Do a word search for the following phrases in every decision: "... the Constitution says..." or "...according to the Constitution.." or citing the Constitution itself as written. If there are no results, then pass. If there are, then the candidate is graded directly on the frequency of said phrases. The more results, the higher the grade. As I noted in last thread, Trump's comments to reporter were fairly incoherent on substance, a bit word-salady.
EO, bill, DACA, SCOTUS gave prez new powers in last ruling. Dude. But whatever. Not important, what's important is action and results. I'll be unimpressed if *any* pandering based around DACA happens - it's not a political winner, period. The "Hispanic opportunity" B.S. is already an eye-roller. But I find it hard to believe there will be any ham-handed WH gambit on DACA, legislatively, prior to November. As noted by another Moron, the grand trade-off of DACA for other, actual immigration reforms was rejected without any consideration by the Dems years ago. Actually was one of the early signs of scorched-earth, 100% rejectionist behavior by the Dems. Trump alluded to elements of RAISE Act in his rambling remarks today - but the WH dropped that initiative like a hot rifle picked up by the barrel not long after embracing it. One of the real failures of the first term. "Political" strategy that trumps/dwarfs others into invisibility is reviving the hot economy, only thing worth working on at this point (and I don't think Trump even needs that for re-election). And that means - finally - entering the arena to introduce adult, scientific leadership on the C19 nonsense. School opening seems to be where somebody finally raised an intelligent voice in the inner councils, and Trump has come out clearly for normal schooling. I predict the political angling on that will benefit the Scalp Weasel in the end, bigly. Posted by: rhomboid at July 10, 2020 07:53 PM (El6T/) 257

>>I don't know how bad he is. Yes, he's a sleaze bucket and a weird wanna-be, but I don't know that he deserves to go to prison. Now, Manafort is another story.
If you haven't read it, this is an outstanding piece describing how bad Stone was railroaded. Forget what he did for a moment, what they did to him was unconscionable not even including showing up at his home at 6 in the morning with a SWAT team https://tinyurl.com/yb8btpln This is justice. Brazen Lying Is Media's Latest Escalation In Campaign Against Trump

OH yeah he was definitely railroaded by corrupt prosecutors abusing power to try to topple a duly elected president for the crime of governing while Republican. I'm just saying the guy is bent and probably ought to be behind bars, anyway. A lot of these guys around who corrupt people, bend if not break the law, to the point of blackmail, bribery, and theft just to help a politician gain office. They're all lower than snake nuts. I'm not defending him at all. He's a sleaze and he did break the law. But what they did to him was obscene. The assholes on Mueller's team tried to send him to prison for what would possibly have been the rest of his life for a relatively minor crime as a first time offender. He's lived in hell for long enough for what he did. I'm a lot more concerned about tyrannical government than I am about a sleazy political operator. The DOJ needs some public accountability. Definitely Ruth Bader Ginsberg. She weighs, what? Seventy pounds? Shouldn't take more than one beer to get her shit-faced. Then get her talking, on video, about what she really believes, and why ... and have her confirm that she didn't resign during Obama's second term because there was a deal to appoint Obama to the Supreme Court when Hillary became president.
