Shocker: Minneapolis Neighborhood That Took a White Guilt Pledge Not to Call the Cops Suffers Its Third Sexual Assault in a Month
The article, as Ed Morrisey notes, refuses the reader the information that this neighborhood took a pledge to never call police, and now has a sprawling homeless encampment in a park previously used by children playing.

People from the park brought the girl to Abbott Northwestern Hospital for examination, and she was later turned over to social services personnel. No arrests have been made. A caller reached 911 to report a woman being assaulted at the park on June 27. The woman received medical attention and city police arrested 40-year-old Jonathan Taylor nearby. He’s charged with groping the woman in their tent. She's the same victim he is charged with raping on May 22 in a Brooklyn Center hotel. On Sunday, a girl was assaulted by a man in the park. A Metro Transit police squad vehicle was flagged down that afternoon, and "after further questioning, the victim reported the assault," said Park Board spokeswoman Robin Smothers.The neighborhood considered putting a cap on the size of the vagrant population they were willing to let squat in the park formerly used by their children. But they decided to let as many bums come in as possible.
It's amazing that the Star Tribune refuses to report critical information, such as the pledge taken by residents to never call the cops, no matter whose child gets raped.

Junail Anderson, whose Freedom from the Streets community organization is assisting with one of the encampments, said sexual assaults “can happen in any park.”
Anderson said the people staying in Powderhorn Park are keeping tabs on one another and holding nightly meetings to discuss any common issues. She said the city needs to step up and help people find places for them to live. “We’re hoping and praying that the mayor listens to us,” Anderson said. “If people are worried about people being preyed on, than give us housing we can afford.” Carlos Losano Enrique, who calls Powderhorn Park his temporary home, said, “I see a lot of arguing but no fighting.” Two days ago, he said, someone broke his car’s windshield, but he’s not ready to leave yet. “The reason I am here is because I need a house,” he said. “I came here the first day they opened, and I have been here for almost five weeks.”
On July 1, a divided Park Board rejected a plan that could have restricted homeless encampments in parks across the city, including the sprawling community at Powderhorn Park that leaders say has become the largest in state history. The board has accommodated hundreds of homeless people who migrated across Minneapolis in the midst of the unrest following the police killing of George Floyd on May 25. Last month, commissioners voted to allow homeless residents to stay overnight at city parks. Yet it has struggled to contain order at the Powderhorn site, where two encampments at the northern end of the park have now grown to more than 600 people in 415 tents, the board disclosed last week.

Well done. I'm trying mightily to replace that euphemistic and disingenuous usage "homeless" with the much more accurate term, "vagrant."
"Homeless" implies that the problem is that they don't have a home, and that if they did, there would be no problem.
And that's obviously untrue. "Vagrant" puts the onus back where it belongs: on the person involved. We could put them in the Four Seasons and they'd still be vagrants, with all that that implies.
As SF is finding out in the formerly 5-star Mark Hopkins Hotel, now called the Mark Hopkins Flophouse and Drug HQ.

USMC used to have a rule/practice where a commander could discharge
someone who simply did not have the profile of a Marine. I haven't
looked up the rules in the 70s but I know about it from first hand
information. I know a commander who had to do this and didn't want to do
it.
Today, you
have lots of servicemen, though rarely Marines, that just look different
than they used to. No question some of them can get the job done, and
depending on the job, most probably do it well. But there is no question
you see more people in uniform today that look like uniformed people in
the movies or on tv.

There's an article over on Powerline about how some academics who did a bunch of research on crime statistics and then published a paper now want to retract their paper, because the paper's conclusions (that blacks are not shot by cops at higher rates than whites) are being cited by too many conservatives.

The paper also noted that the perps most likely to be shot by cops are the perps who most frequently engage in violent conduct. As we know, blacks engage in much more violence than whites do, and so statistically they should be getting shot by cops in much higher numbers than they actually are.
But the study authors can't stand that those facts contradict the lefty narrative of blacks as perpetual victims of blood-thirsty raaaaaacist cops, so those inconvenient facts must be erased!

that is good stuff Nevegiveup. The military isn't easy, even in peace time or stateside. You have some guys that are tough as nails but for some reason simply can not finish a run. And you have some guys that for whatever reason can't get their uniform squared away.

I had a Marine Reserve unit Company Commander call me up one time about a female Corpsman that was over weight.
He said he was going to do an Admin Board on her because she was so fat and so far out of standards they could not find a uniform that would fit her for drills.
He called me and said....."dude she is so fat she has to turn sideways to walk in the door to the Ready Room".
We kicked her out for being out of standards.
Two months later I had to bring her back in. She had over 18 years service and "protected" from any Admin action. Got multiple calls form Congressmen and Senators.

I believe OCWeekly did a story about this a few years ago, and that it said it's a classic example of governments refusing to accept responsibility. The cities say the county has to take care of it, the county refuses and always throws the ball back at the cities. Result is that no one does shit and the situation festers and festers.

If you read their reporting with a critical eye, you'll see the fastidious and exacting care given in their phraseology to not saying anything critical of the bums and perverts and meth monkeys infesting the park, or directly assigning responsibility for any of the problems the neighborhood is experiencing to their presence.
