There's a method of plying yarn that was commonly called "Navajo plying" because they developed it for use with their spindles. The last few years it has been changed to "chain plying", so as not to be 'offensive'. Chain plying *is* an accurate term, but in a move that claims to be for the benefit of the Navajo, it actually erases them and their contribution (and it's not like they have so much going for them that they can afford to lose any legitimate recognition).

My understanding is that city wastewater plants take daily samples for testing, and retain them for some extended period. Knowing what to look for, scientists are find that people were shitting the virus back in 2019 in several European nations.
Unless the samples have become contaminated. I would guess that to be a possibility.

Honestly, I went through the Flats a lot as a kid back when the Cuyahoga was orange colored. NO COMPARISON to Gary, IN.
Dad was a Superintendent at the salt mine in CLE and I went with when he worked on a Saturday. Grandma live in Germantown in CHI, so we drove by the US Steel plant in Gary when we went to visit.
Worked in the mine on breaks in HS and college.

There's a Japanese minority-- the Ainu, I think-- who long been persecuted, discriminated against, etc. Their civil-rights-movement-equivalent, in an attempt to diminish racist hate speech, apparently end up getting a law passed that discouraged usage of their name (IIRC), effectively silencing them/removing them from history.

I had the pleasure of seeing a game at the old "mistake by the lake" stadium. Specifically went to Cleveland for that one purpose.
And much like the first time I saw Mt. Rushmore, as I approached and saw the great big head of Chief Wahoo, it was magical and wondrous.
The game?
Terrible. Indians blew a lead late, went to extra innings, and I got to experience THAT joy, of seeing the fog roll in.
Late April, as I recall. Fairly warm early on. Later, not so much.

I thought the place was beautiful. Lots of dead grass, poor lighting... in the stands, I mean. Under the overhangs, with steal girders holding it up, it seemed you took your life in your hands just sitting there.
The outfield fence was... what, about 40-50 feet from the actual structural wall that was originally the dimensions? What it must have taken to knock one out back then...
To me the old stadiums are monuments too, and we've been destroying them since the late 50s/early 60s.

Up at the first tier, even more than the money, they need the political power and international relevance that foreign students - often spies masquerading as students - bring to them.

Apathy. People still dislike the Dolans for being cheap, even though they spent big in 2017 and 2018 to make a run for it. They had to cut back partially because, well, they weren't getting ticket revenue. It's not a baseball city, it's a football city. When the Jake had the sellout streak, the Cavs were mediocre, the Browns were gone, and the economy was heading into the dot-com boom. New stadium, a team that was finally good again after being basement dwellers since the 60's - was a perfect storm. Then we had a small period of not being in contention and people basically said "eh, fuck em." LeBron made the Cavs competitive for a while and gave the city a title, so people cared more about basketball in that period.

I got into it with a guy at work this weekend who was all about the BLM. I didn't voice my support so I must be ray-sist. I told him to go fuck himself and showed him a picture of my grandson who was killed in Jacksonville Florida this past August. But since he was not a fledgling or experienced criminal in the custody of the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office (or other legal institution) his young black life didn't matter because he didn't get a riot or any looting or anything. Nope, he was killed by the number one killer of young black men...other young black men...and for a rap song that he did not write, perform or produce. He just happened to be in the car with the kid that did when the shooter decided he had been "dissed" by this song and wanted a little payback.
The problem with BLM is they deify criminals. Let us not forget that George Floyd was being arrested for passing counterfeit bills. No, he didn't deserve to die that day but let us not fool ourselves into thinking he was some kind of choir boy. Neither was that drunken asshole in Atlanta, or the dickhead that offed himself in Baltimore by throwing himself around in a police van.

The most valuable thing we could do legislatively is:
- Remove the bankruptcy exemption for student loans
- Eliminate 100% of all government funding for universities (federally, anyway, each state would have to do their own things in this regard)
Watch it implode like a dying star. Every sub-Tier-2 university in the country would be bankrupt within two years. Half of the Tier-2s would go. The Tier-1s would be fine, but not many people go to them.

John Hart played a part by not including Tony Pena, Mesa's regular season catcher, on the post season roster. Pena would go out to the mound and whack Mesa with his glove to get his head in the game. I don't blame Mesa as much as I did Hart and fatfuck Grover.
Hargrove got smoked by Jim Leland in that series, particularly knowing when to pinch hit for pitchers. All Hargrove thought of was lefty/righty shit.

The 97 team were playing over their heads all season, though. The 95 team was legitimately one of the best to ever suit up, and should have won it all. 97, we beat a couple better teams to make it to the WS, and lost to a team we probably should have beat. Pena wasn't on the Indians in 97 - which might be the reason Mesa was never his 1995 self again. That and his rage issues. It just hurt to lose to a team with no history and no fanbase that sold everybody off less than a year later.

But in 97 he carried the team - also won All Star Game MVP and his HR off Mariano Rivera won us the ALDS. So Pena wouldn't have seen much playing time anyway.

Back in the day before the NHL were as big as they are now a bunch of the players used to hang out in the bars along Newbury Street. Derek Sanderson was one of the ringleaders.
No idea how he managed to skate the next day after some of the booze I saw him put away. He was a fun guy.
The league was a lot more enjoyable back then.

I looked up Deadline, a site with viewership numbers.
At 7 pm, NASCAR registered 4.01 million viewers, America's Funniest Home Videos registered 4.3 million viewers, and 60 minutes registered 6 million viewers. Later, NASCAR's numbers went up a bit when Fox showed Simpson's reruns and ABC put on Celebrity Family Feud.
compare to the Superbowl last year, which was the worst viewership in years with only 98 million viewers.

Yep, the NHL will be in lock step wokeness with the rest of the professional sports leagues.
Recall that one of the icons of Canadian hockey going back decades, Don Cherry, was unceremoniously fired for telling Canadians immigrants to respect military veterans.
If they will toss overboard a hockey icon like that for nothing other than expressing a defense of pride in Canada, the NHL will surely cave to Burn-Loot-Murder.
They are already working on it. And consider they are planning to expand to a franchise in SJW Seattle next year. So you know they're going to cater to SJWs.

"But not everybody thinks like them," he said. "We need more people like that. The bottom line is, we haven't done enough as a league. I've been in a lot of discussions over the years. I've been to the White House on behalf of the league. I've done the congressional hockey caucus in D.C. on Capitol Hill. I've spoken to congresswomen and congressmen, all those different things, all the grassroots efforts and initiatives. But our numbers aren't where they need to be. It almost feels like Pi = 3.14, where we're around 20 players of color every year."
It's a long road to inclusivity, to equality in a sport with historic racial and socioeconomic factors working against it. But Weekes walks it with determination.
