Tucker Carlson Cooks Democrat in Republican Clothing Senator Mike Braun

Am I still crazy for saying the Republican leadership class are essentially all Democrats who just want to do favors for big business donors?

Below, Mike Braun tries to justify his stated support for Black Lives Matter as well as his support for making it easy for leftwing agitators to sue policemen, personally, whenever they feel like it.

His defense of this, which he repeats endlessly, is that "if we don't join in the conversation, we'll be on the sidelines, and Democrats will run circles around us."

In other words: If we don't propose our own Black Lives Matter-pandering leftwing legislation, then the Democrats will leave us out of the process of passing leftwing legislation, and we won't be able to claim a piece of that Big Win.

This is your Republican Party, folks. Pushing leftwing extremism so that we're not left out of the Leftwing Extremism Debate.

Via RedState, here's an excerpt from Washington Examiner's coverage.

Braun told Carlson that he felt Republicans need to go after qualified immunity because Democrats were going to "make hay of this" in the 2020 elections. Carlson asked Braun why he cared what Democrats were doing.

"Who controls the Senate? Does Chuck Schumer control it? I thought Republicans controlled the Senate. And so you're taking your cues from Chuck Schumer? You’re saying Chuck Schumer might criticize me; therefore, I have to pass a law that makes it easier to sue police?" he asked.

Carlson asked him pointedly if Braun thought Republicans would keep the Senate "running on this platform." That is: Chuck Schumer's platform.

It's time to purge them all.

So pass anything, no matter what, just to make sure you get the votes next time.

Why get the votes? So Republicans are in power. Why Republicans in power? Because they're Republicans and they want power. Not in order to serve, or accomplish any stated goals, but ... power.

72 Braun was wrong in supporting BLM, and also in attacking "qualified immunity" because that only serves to neutralize individual officers. There ARE systemic problems, but he ignores them. Since this thread seems appropriate, I wrote something the other day to some friends and relatives, as to how I would change policing today:

1) The so-called "War on Drugs" has militarized law breakers, and has caused the police to militarize in return. That alone has moved much policing into a
state of ongoing guerilla warfare. Some aspects of that, such as no-knock raids, are so pernicious and against our fundamental liberties that they should be
banned, no matter the cost. Letting the police own military equipment and run SWAT teams might be fun for them, but it's just not right. When such things
are available, they get used in situations where they shouldn't be.

2) Cities in America used to do Community policing - where the police in any given jurisdiction are people who live in that community, who grew up in the
community, and who are part of it. That's why we had the old stereotype of Irish cops in northeastern cities; that's the only people who were hired to deal with the mostly Irish poor neighborhoods at the time. I don't know why we ever got away from that. If it was because of "Diversity", it was a mistake.

3) Local cities have come to rely far too heavily on fines and other judicially imposed fees for their revenue, which has led to overly zealous enforcement
of minor traffic offenses and other violations. These weigh more heavily on the poor than on those who are better equipped and better informed, and it
breeds resentment. The worst example of this was Eric Garner, who died during an arrest in 2014. He was arrested for selling single cigarettes on the
street, which was against a regulation because it could evade certain city taxes. Essentially, Eric Garner was killed because NYC demanded that it's police act as Tax Collectors for the city's revenue generation schemes.

4) Police Unions exist to protect "bad cops" and shield them from punishment for their actions. I hold that *all* Government Employee Unions of any kind are an abomination, and should never have been allowed. (they were illegal in this country until 1959, and even FDR said that they were a great evil) Unions exist in theory to protect workers against management, but with government unions, they exist to shield Government employees from Us, their employers. That should never have been allowed, and they should all be disbanded.

I would focus all efforts on cleaning up and reforming those 4 areas.

I tend to agree with you, but then I realize that there is a segment of our society (Marxists/Democrats/PantyFa/Race Warriors (BIRM)), who are guaranteed to turn every single interaction with the police, however innocent or proper, into a lawsuit that the cop has to defend personally.

These people have no shame and their only goal is the destruction of our system. Leaving cops open to lawsuits without any immunity at all would ensure the destruction of our system.

It doesn't matter how crappy the challenger is, if he's running against the incumbent, then vote for him or her. And don't let the GOPe poison you against them like they did over and over in the past to destroy the Tea Party movement.

It doesn't matter if they claim this person is silly or weird or stupid. VOTE FOR THE CHALLENGER. Get the sitting GOP scum out and put a new one in, until you get a keeper.

Yep.

It is an indisputable fact that the people who call themselves "progressives" these days are really anti-American communists whose goal is to destroy the country as it was founded and replace it with communism, socialism or whichever -ism they care to call it.

They are in both political parties. They're easy to spot more for what they don't say or endorse moreso than what they say. For instance, we're having our Constitutional rights stripped away at a pace today that would've had our Founders shooting already. We're losing the right to free speech, the right to free association, travel, commerce, and many others. Why isn't each and every Republican fighting this with every means at their disposal? Why aren't they doing what they're supposed to be doing, namely protecting our freedoms against those who are taking them away from us simply because they can?

For instance, why isn't there legislation in Congress right now that says all businesses in America will abide and adhere to the Constitution as written? We can do that, it would be perfectly legal and warranted given the situation we find ourselves in. If this shuts down businesses, then so what? Others will rise in their place. We don't have to put up with the bullshit the Left is forcing upon us. We can shut them down right now.

The mewling quim that Tucker rightly torched is a pathetic reminder of just how some sub-humans will lie, cheat and steal in order to gain their power over the rest of us to make us miserable.

Progressivism absolutely has to be purged from our nation by any means necessary. If we don't do it now, we'll certainly regret it.

One of the things Democrats do immensely better than Republicans is, turn their pols into lackeys who do the bidding of their base.

Republican voters have for too long voted for Republicans and then sat back and watched their representatives go their merry way.

And then complain about it. I think it's wise to look at politicians as the whores they are. Whores can be useful... if you insist they do what you paid them to do, instead of paying them, and then having them go off and kneel down in front of somebody else.

Posted by: tmitsss at June 30, 2020 12:19 PM (bEAoD)

It has definitely been abused in some cases. BUT the reason it was created and is so necessary is that any large, well funded criminal organization (lets call them a Cartel) can easily neutralize the police force of any major city without it. All they need to do is make notes of which individual policeman are most active, and then fund lawsuits from anyone they arrest. While those policemen are involved in that suit, they are probably going to stay on desk duty, or if not they certainly will not take any risks that could impact their case. For groups with funding like the Cartels have, it would be easy to knock the top 500 or 600 cops out of any jurisdiction, and after that the rest would get the message.

158 It has definitely been abused in some cases.
Posted by: Tom Servo at June 30, 2020 12:26 PM (Kpl3J)

Not just that, but ultimately police enforce the laws passed by elected officials who are supposed to be accountable to the citizens. What QI should do is transfer responsibility to those elected officials and the government as a whole for the actions of the officers that they are supposed to supervise. Without it, any blame gets pushed onto the individual cops when things go south, while politicians take the praise when things are good. It makes for a dangerous dynamic.

Again, this concept is so at odds with American principles and law as to be literally insane.

After Flake and Corker, there's been an automatic endorsement of all Senate GOP incumbents, regardless of options, or how un-wonderful, or close to awful, the incumbents are. House - not aware of anything being done to reshape the GOP there, but welcome anything I've missed. There was at least one WH backfire where one of the many squishes waiting out Trump's immigration reform efforts lost to a challenger, despite WH backing (yeah).

And there's the bizarre WH effort to block Sessions' return, given the sportsball coach's solid GOPe immigration credentials.

Politix is hard and stuff, but it's not like those who want to improve the country or at least slow the decline have much time or opportunity to waste. Some risk is required.

THat's not how any of this works.

QI is a doctrine/defense in Section 1983 (42 USC Sec. 1983) civil lawsuits for the deprivation of federally protected constitutional rights. It is already civil, and a police officer being sued likely doesn't even know about it unto discovery starts.

The government already indemnifies officers under their union contracts.

No cop is getting desk duty from a suit being filed, and no cop is paying out if his own pocket in probably 99% of the cases.

I wonder how they pronounce that? I also wonder what inspired that choice. Looked it up on a names site, and it says that it's Greek and means "lover of the small."

Just struck me as odd, since it looks like it might be pronounced in a way that sounds like "felonious," which seems like an odd thing for a mom to name her baby boy in the U.S.

Solution: Tell the cops that if they are involved in something that goes sideways and their body can footage isn't available, neither the police union nor the jurisdiction they work for will pay a dime for their defense if they are sued.

Within a day, every cop will have their own Go Pro affixed to their car as well as one as a redundancy to their body can, constantly downloading to the cloud from the first to the last minute of each shift.

238 I'm not a fan of qualified immunity. But most of its faults could be ameliorated by state legislatures (and Congress at the federal level) passing detailed statutes on the subject rather than leaving courts to their own devices. Folks who say it should just be abolished altogether when plaintiffs' lawyers line up to shake down the public fisc based on every allegedly questionable cop-citizen interaction. It'll make cops so hands-off the public won't be able to get them to do much of anything.

289 Trump has been bold enough to expose much of the leftist propaganda for what it is ... and also some of the GOPe propaganda. The disconcerting part is that so many Karens hold so much sway in smaller/local venues.

Or sometimes these Karens are behind every man ... Boris Johnson's girlfriend, for example. Paul Ryan's wife? Not sure about her, many GOPe are just sold out to their globalist/corporatist benefactors.

But much of America has their fortunes and retirement directly tied to corporate America, which has largely become a globalist self-governed entity. We see this as corporations are now withholding advertising billions from the like of Facebook, demanding MORE Censorship (of "misinfo", which is anything outside their Narrative).

imo The Foundations (tax exemptions mean that money goes toward their own governing bodies) are central to this globalist (communist/central control) shadow government, that is still running The Coup. Commies know how to infiltrate and generate constant propaganda ... DeepState does it as well as China ... but they both agree our Beloved Liberty must be ended.

We purge them, then Leftists stand a greater chance of taking their seats.

We don't purge them, then enough of them continue a leftward drift to neutralize the few patriots there are left in government.

We try to run new patriots in primaries, they either get shut out, or if elected turn out to be lying grifter sellouts or they get marginalized by the Deep State GOP.

It's like they've got it sewn up tight. But if there are any options I'm missing here, feel free to point them out.

328 Actually the only people who have qualified immunity to a 42 USC 1983 lawsuit are judges, and they lose that immunity if the violate a declaratory decree from a higher court. The "qualified immunity" that any public official has against a 1983 suit is that they didn't break the law, 18 USC 242, in denying somebody a constitutional right.

For example if police officer has probable cause to arrest someone for a crime he may disarm that person in violation of their second amendment right to keep and bear arms, and take that person into custody in violation of their 5th amendment right to liberty.

360 There is plenty of reform to be had without giving the marxist any ground:
1. Qualified immunity is a judicial invention that needs to killed and buried by law and/or constitutional amendment, period.
2. We need to make Peelian Principles the official cornerstone of police policy and training.
3. We need to repeal all the stupid laws that have eroded our rights such as the war on drugs.
4. We make teachers, firefighters, and military continually train for their jobs; the same should be said for police. More paid time should be given to exercises and training that make them better at discerning and de-escalating situations as well as better at handling firearms. (Ask any qualified firearms instructor and they will tell you that police tend to be some of the worst at handling firearms because they are given minimal instruction during academy and very few, if any departments, pay for practice time and ammo.)

361 Simply citing fact. See if you can find a reference to just the real estate holdings of the LDS - and that's not including temples, stake centers, etc. It's staggering.

No, you started with fact: the LDS Church has a lot of wealth, then intimated nefarious intent: Mitt Romney's actions are an extension of the LDS Church's great wealth.

362 At this point, my nephew has made his clear that he wants to put it behind him (this is the ONLY thing keeping me from intervening). But will he feel the same in 20 years? Who knows.

The law is not a solution for everything. There are some very hard cases that can not find legal redress. I think your nephew has made the best choice he can for him.

369 There are already avenues to sue the police/city for wrongful acts. I'd support qualified immunity reform for DA's and prosecutors long before that for the police, who often have to respond instantaneously to a threat in a high-stress situation. The DA and prosecutor...their wrongful acts occur in the comfort of their office, and only after some deliberation...

370 "No, you started with fact: the LDS Church has a lot of wealth, then intimated nefarious intent: Mitt Romney's actions are an extension of the LDS Church's great wealth."

Is it implying nefarious intent to ask if you trust the Chamber of Commerce? More to the point, if you trust Repulicans who are secretly beholden to the CoC? What I posted is basically the same thing.

If you think I was impugning Mormons at large, you read WAY too much into it.

377 I would put the pedal to the metal with these anti American insurgents and if I got charged I would claim that in my panicked moment I accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal - just like the criminals claim when they drag officers or slam into buildings. It's up to the prosecutor to prove otherwise. Good luck convincing a jury, unless the entire jury is BLMBM or Pantifa. Which will probably be their next demand.

379 Braun may very well be an idiot, but "qualified immunity" is judge made bullshit.
Judges made it because they were inventing all these new "rights", and were afraid the pushback they got would be too great if police officers were actually punished for violating these fantasy "rights", rather than just a bunch of criminals getting out of jail.
There is nothing good about QI, it SHOULD be dumped

Literally no one will want to become a police officer ever again.

Posted by: Wyatt Earp at June 30, 2020 12:16 PM (VWp7G)

Bullshit. If you have to be told that beating up people because they talked back to you is a "violation of their rights", then you shouldn't be a cop.Of course QI should go away for everybody. But it should go away

383 Imagine you're in a position enforcing laws that many people believe are bad - like speed or theft or dui. Then imagine you can be peronsally sued by people for any interaction they don't like. We've seen a number of fake 'cop was racist' claims throughout the years. Do you think this will deter these claims or embolden them?

Now the police officer is responsible for defending himself against bogus claims - financially wrecking him. Remember what happened to Sarah Palin with the barrage of lawsuits she had to pay out of pocket?

What do you suppose happens then? The police stop enforcing laws.

Oh, but you get hurt because the cops didn't enforce the laws - they let Rayshard go and he kills your familiy in a DUI because they didn't want to face financial ruin. But hey, you can now you sue them for that - after all they didn't do their job.

Think there will be any police left to enforce anything?

I mean, I'm cool with that. I'm perfectly willing start sweeping areas clean and eliminating criminals if the police won't get in my way, or there are none left to do so.

An easier question to ask yourself: If the Democrats are for it, what's in it for them?

Posted by: Kemp at June 30, 2020 02:12 PM (W/m9L)

387 Colorado primary today. The *only* race that is contested is for my county's (Douglas) commissioner. Clint Dorris is an outspoken anti-socialist running against a party establishment candidate (George Teal). It will probably take a couple cycles for guys like Dorris to ercolate to federal races. Problem is that there aren't enough people like him even on the ballot.

The Libertarian party is not a viable alternative to the GOP. It's more credible than it was in the Lyndon LaRouche era, but that isn't saying much. They nominated Gary Johnson in '16, and Johnson is left of Mitt Romney.

394 The GOP should ABSOLUTELY eliminate qualified immunity. It is a disgrace to our justice system and our ideals of liberty.

Remember, the idea behind qualified immunity is that not only does it have to be mind bendingly obvious that what the cops are doing wrong, but ALSO that the courts have ruled that it is wrong EXACTLY.

Its not about allowing anybody to sue willy nilly. Its about about allowing anybody to sue justly.
