Goodsky morningsky, all,
I got up, slopped the feline hogs, and washed the car. Shortly I'm running out to the 'burbs for a haircut, and Linda wants to use a coupon at an Ulta store out there. The problem is that it doesn't open until 11, and we really don't have many air-conditioned places to kill 90 minutes in after my barber visit. Yeah, I know, first-world problem . . . but it's *hot* here. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at June 27, 2020 08:49 AM (rpbg1) 11

Huh, willowed.
Anyhow, I think you should carry whenever possible, but that having lots of spare mags on you looks a bit sketchy. Hard to explain how you weren't out looking for trouble when you've got 30-50 rounds on you. For those worried about a serious incident where you may need more, I suggest having the mag or ammo in the car where one can credibly explain that it's leftover from your practice session at the range. On thing I think is getting lost in all of this is how the left is effectively destroying itself.
Think about it: the left's bastions of power are incredibly fragile. Higher education, online services, trendy non-profits, and bloated bureaucracies can only exist in a super-affluent society with lots of excess cash. As soon as that sense of safety evaporates, donations dry up, people consider community college/skilled trades, etc. The universities are already cutting salaries. There are people seriously arguing that we should close school buildings permanently, and abolish dorms. That's basically a death sentence to liberal college towns. Same with pro sports. They're woke at precisely the moment where their seasons are being canceled. Movie theaters are closed and may never reopen. Streaming will never have the cultural impact of big-tent movies. Opening weekends and the cash surge will disappear since people will simply add the new thing to their playlist and get to it later. Basically, they can't win and their current spasm is just causing them to burn out even faster. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Willowed, about WuFlu case count, damned lies about case count, and panic about damned lies about case count:
In mid-March I told my friends that eventually, everyone in the country will inhale some of the damned virus cells. Those who it can make sick, will get sick. Those who it cannot make sick will not get sick. I believe my prognosis is still valid. I will bet my house that Fauchi, Birx, and all the other docs know this and have told Trump, but they don't believe the citizenry can handle the truth. Their plan is to string-out the sicknesses at a non-hospital-clogging level, using closures, until a vaccine is miraculously available. Flattening the curve was only a stop-gap. All it did, and all these new bar closures will do, is change the shape of the curve of number of sicknesses over time. Social distancing and mask-wearing will not change the area under the curve - total sicknesses in the US - without a vaccine or a different miracle. The only truly good news is that the docs are doing everything they can to reduce deaths, using Remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, and other stuff on those who get sick. This could be a much larger factor in the death rate being reduced than lockdown theater is. Posted by: Gref at June 27, 2020 08:52 AM (AMIL/) Posted by: Gref at June 27, 2020 09:09 AM (AMIL/) 65

Falling Masks
I see all these comments about the Texas Kung Flu rates and the Texas Gov's vacillating edicts... but up here in Texas's topper, I don't really see news of my Oklahome state. No news is good news, I guess. AFAIK, our new Gov. Stitt (R) has not been a manic tyrant about things, not even so much as Abbot. Our state 'shutdown' was relatively brief, the 'reopening' seems to be scattered, but steady. Some restaurants limiting customers and staff masked, others no limits no masks. Hooray for the freedom for businesses to choose, such as it is considering law and liability. Mostly, folks I run into are laughing it off now. There's still lots of folks spooked, maybe even an uptick in the masked shoppers, and businesses esp restaurants remain wary, but AFAIK we don't have any mask requirements or assembly limitations. Well, we know about the 'former military leaders' that are supposed to try to claim Trump is 'dangerously incompetent' on CNN in October.
It'll be interesting if they try to keep to that schedule since it's apparently gotten out. Posted by: Mr. Peebles at June 27, 2020 09:09 AM (oVJmc) I wonder if one of them will be the Col. Gray who was in command of the BCT of the 101st Airborne in Kirkuk, early 2006. Because he's the guy who ordered us not to roll up a certain sheik we'd photographed meeting known insurgent leaders on his front porch. The Colonel, you see, felt he had a good relationship with the sheik and didn't want feathers ruffled. The United States military is so big and has so many resources that you be a complete useless assbag and it winds up not mattering in the long run. Oh, you fucked up and let insurgents take over a stretch of MSR Clemson and murder all the Iraqi Army soldiers at the checkpoints? Meh, go send some guys and get it back. Oh, insurgents took over an entire city because we couldn't be assed to pay attention? Send a few battalions of Marines, they'll fix it. This is a group of people who award each other Bronze Stars for completing a deployment (just so you know: A Bronze Star without a 'V' device is utterly meaningless today, for that reason). I was very disturbed by a comment made by a caller to Levin the other day. The caller was convinced Biden would be the "October surprise" by dropping out of the race due to a "health problem" --whether acknowledging his cognitive decline or other. Then the "rescue" candidate of Mooch, Hillary or God know what rough beach slouching towards Bethlehem...
The nagging anxiety this gives me is how perfectly this would negate Trumps current, and typical, campaign strategy, and take advantage of the Democrat structural advantages in terms of the MSM. Think about it. DJT spends the next two months bashing "sleepy Joe" and talking about his cognitive decline. Sleepy Joe makes an appearance in press conference in October, acknowledging a decline, taking a "brave stand for the good of the country" and bows out to some POS commie darling of the left. While doing it, he somberly reflects on Trumps cruelty in making fun of such a devastating yada yada that affects so many elderly. So all Trumps attacks come to nothing, and don't leave a scratch on the new opponent, and may only generate a mild negative impact in the older voters and emotion driven wine Moms. There is "no time" to debate the new candidate. So all further campaigning, such as it is, is now filtered through the MSM, and it becomes a pure media campaign. This would be the classic leftist tactic of disarming the opposition, and could be quite effective. It is also deviously consistent with Biden's "bunker" /non-campaign. I think they may be deliberately avoiding having Biden take up too much oxygen in terms of personalizing the race, if this is the ultimate plan. DJT must get his own message out there, and run on his message. If there is to be negative campaigning, it must be about slamming the ideas of the left, and be contrasted with the core concepts of preserving America itself which is very much under attack. Every company does the song and dance about workplace safety: People are our most important asset, do it safely or not at all, the job is only successful if no one gets hurt, etcetera. There are posters, there is mandatory training, there is paperwork for days. And then you get out in the field and you... Well, you do what you have to do, because at the end of the day all these people *actually* care about is fucking dollars. "Where's the safety guy?" "In the galley." "Good. Hold this fucking thing and we'll swap it out. Here. Fucking hide this." They're also the first ones cut when times get tight, because corporate actually considers them to be freeloading dead weight and hates having to be reminded that little inconvenient things like workplace safety laws exist and have to be complied with. Was catching up with Rush from Friday. As usual, I feel he had great insights into our current situation. For all those thinking that Trump "needs" to do something about statue destruction, rioting etc. Rush pointed out that even walking to a church with a member of the military turned into a fiasco. With the general saying he was sorry etc. And then, as noted above, you have ex-military generals questioning Trumps competence. What these mayors/governors want, is for Trump to call in the military/NG. And here was Rush' insight, then, given our current military leaders, the military says no. Then Trump is standing there neutered by his own military. And Rush did not say this, but just to add insult, whatever BLM/Antifa situation then resolves either by normal entropy/they stand down, showing Trump is insane to have wanted a military response.

You say "forever" but no operation goes on forever. There's a buildup and then you burn through your reserves. They are in full mobilization mode right now, and they cannot keep it going for month after month.

...There is "no time" to debate the new candidate.
This is blossoming
IMO, only the coverage from PROGDA is blossoming. I see the death throes of progressivism. It won't be pretty but I think enough LIV's are seeing what voting Democrat gets them. TuCa is the biggest voice exposing what's really going on. The 911 call from the lady who was being attacked in her car when the dispatcher told her to "call city hall" was devastating. PDT just needs to keep hammering them and their support for the Marxists like BLM regardless of who winds up being the Dem on November's ballot. KMac reminded the press corpse that it was the local mayors and governors who are responsible for safety. One more thing: we now know who's running BLM. They'll make very inviting targets if they keep their antics up for much longer. We just need to be patient. Whichever way this goes, we Normals won't have to put up with this for much longer. Let the Dem voters suffer for a while. Posted by: BackwardsBoy - Who can fight the beast? Revelation 13:4 at June 27, 2020 09:44 AM (HaL55) 162

I suspect lots of foreign money too. But money is less important than the lack of consequences. NotsoThoreau points to Kent state. If you might meet your maker over it, you might not join, but if there are no consequences, you will. However, if it gets big enough, a few casualties won't matter. If dissent is silenced with accusations or racism, they are pretty far along. In kind donations from the media are very important and every time you cancel someone or get them fired, "silence like a cancer grows". Posted by: CN at June 27, 2020 09:46 AM (ONvIw) 170

Laws are just pieces of paper sitting there at the discretion of Soros appointed DAs and in the in-box of an overburdened DOJ sitting in Washington, unless there is a scaleable mechanism put in place for real-time response. Like they did with Covid, I think there would be real need for some type of functioning task force, with a real mandate to get er done yesterday to come up with a mechanism to put in place lines of communication from local LE to local units of the feds, who will deputize local LE to move into action under federal mandate. Prosecutions can have deterrent value, but how many months will go by until a meaningful cohort of actual criminal convictions take place to influence the risk/benefit of the mob? Posted by: Colin at June 27, 2020 09:38 AM (X3dij) It will be interesting to see how the now-mandatory laboratory classes, in engineering, chemistry, and all or most physical sciences programs, will be handled as colleges go to on-line classes. Those hands-on lab classes could be done away with, assuming industry is OK with hiring people without any hands-on experience. Or a number of colleges could join together and open a network of college lab class facilities within a state or region. For that to work, there would really need to be a nationwide network of those labs, all spaced no more than two hours or so driving time apart. Posted by: Gref at June 27, 2020 09:53 AM (AMIL/) 197

116 Was catching up with Rush from Friday.
Posted by: MikeM at June 27, 2020 09:25 AM (bw5hz) This. The upper echelons of our military encompass the political spectrum from Democratic Socialism to Communism. If an avowed, out-and-proud Marxist can graduate from West Point (!), we know that the entire institution has jumped the shark. I listen to Bloomberg News regularly. James Stavridis was a supreme NATO commander, and regular military commenter for B'berg. He calls himself a 'centrist', but I've never heard him express anything close to a conservative thought. He even misrepresented the nature and number of times that the US President has invoked the Insurrection Act in a recent editorial column. I have no doubt that he speaks for most of the active senior generals in the military from his perch outside of it when he calls Trump an illegitimate president, not worthy of following from a military standpoint. Trump knows this as well, because he's shown that he has better military judgment than all of them with regards to Syria, Russia, Turkey, ISIS/ISIL, and NATO. They can't stand that. The first opportunity they have to undermine him, they'll take it. They want nothing more than to be left alone, and a President Biden will do nothing to rein them in. You could compress all the lab work into one year (probably the final year... basically make the final year a practicum where you learn the hands-on application of the theory you've learned). That'd eliminate roughly 3/4 of the expense of face-to-face college.

There is some astonishingly good stuff posted there, and there is one story which brought me so much joy I'm going to link to it right here: ... except your site won't let me link to a not-very-long URL, why not. Anyway, go to archiveofourown.org, and in the search bar type in the author's name (Adina) and the story title (Green Ice.) It features Lord Peter Wimsey and Bertie Wooster (though written from Bertie's POV) is set at Brinkley Court, and involves the Attenbury Emeralds. The author is obviously young and there are a few anachronistic slips - a woman referred to as Ms. Somebody - but it is so good that it won't bother you. Bonus: we find out why Bertie never mentions the Great War. Happy reading. Posted by: Annalucia at June 27, 2020 09:57 AM (S6ArX) 208

CO and WA state made a very serious effort to ban rain barrels on the theory that the State, owned the rain that fell and that catching it in barrels and using it, without extortion paid to the state, was illegal. Posted by: Ignoramus at June 27, 2020 10:11 AM (9TdxA) I would probably buy these bonds, if the yield is high enough. The right thing to do, once these states run out of BS to peddle investors, would be to declare bankruptcy so the bonds go to zero. Problem with that is that the rating agencies make lots of money rating bonds, and as they get paid by the issuer there's no incentive for them to tell the truth about the rot in the muni finances. If, by some freakish Black Swan incidence, a state were to declare bankruptcy to escape from their pension obligations, it's a whole new world regarding whether the Feds will serve as a backstop. My guess is that there is absolutely no will in Congress or the Senate to let a state die. We don't even know what that really means, and a court test of the concept would take years after such an event. The Ford to NYC moment did focus public and private entities to get their act together, and Felix Rohayton deserves a lot of the credit for getting the finance sector on board. Bankruptcy is a legal process to get old debts reduced or eliminated to enable the debtor to start over. You can't get blood from a stone. Before bankruptcy laws, debtors prisons were used to get family and friends to cough up.
Right now states can't go bankrupt. They're stuck with the debts. Some states have constitutional provisions that pensions get priority. Many Blue states like IL will get fucked because of this Posted by: Ignoramus at June 27, 2020 10:32 AM (9TdxA) 275

municipal bonds are considered safe because they are backed by tax revenues that are expected to rise due to the things the state is supposed to be doing, or that the issuer will honor the bond no matter what
But these aren't being issued to cover improvements, they are being issued to cover pension and operation costs because they can't cover those obligations today by simple taxes and fees. Also, right now the cities, counties and states are all ignoring their obligations they took on about safety, health and economic prosperity so future revenue looks pretty bad. The only backstop is that the Feds will step in and rescue them by paying off the creditors. I have said this for 12 years, this is going to end in hyperinflation or default. I vote for default. Seattle City Workers Move To Clear Autonomous Zone, Leave After Activist Draws Gun
https://bit.ly/3g4E2as Seattle, WA - Protesters stopped city crews from removing the barricades blocking the six blocks that surround the Seattle Police Department's East Precinct on Friday morning by lying in the road and brandishing a firearm. KOMO reported that people laid down in the street to block equipment and at least one weapon was drawn by protesters in the Capital Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP), formerly known as the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ), when city crews arrived to begin cleaning up that area on June 26. Self-appointed leaders of the CHOP have told city officials that they will not relinquish the occupied zone until their list of demands has been met, KOMO reported. Um, these are NOT protesters anymore. They are domestic terrorists at worst, criminal lawbreakers at best, who are occupying private property. Actually, a I think a lot of the protesters are "street kids" for all that some of them are in their thirties.
No brains, no family, no skills, no future, lots of incomplete degrees they started and got into impossible debt over, no real direction, lots of drug use, no understanding of how to resolve and conflict, no future planning abilities fir a future they really don't have, a history of small scale violence and assault, and a drumbeat of "they are keeping it from you, go take it, it is unfair" They saw Bernie as the way to get equalization. I am not saying they aren't dangerous, but they are a wonderful way of showing that our system of raising and educating kids has failed. Another 20 years they will be all living in the homeless camps by the interstate, and I think they know it. It's WA state. The county health departments have vast power here and often use it to attain more power and to climb the political ladder. New wells are a health issue out here. Private property be damned. We also have a three tiered system for water access. Water access means building or not building. If your property is in a Red Zone, no wells for you. Want a cistern? It has to be filled by county health dept. approved suppliers and be inspected annually by said health dept. Naturally, water rights is a big issue and older properties with senior water rights defend those to the death and state law is generally on their side. Posted by: The ARC of History! at June 27, 2020 11:16 AM --- Texas closed all bars again because of spikes in Cities that had riots. The Governor blamed the spike on people congregating in bars so he ordered them all shut at noon yesterday with zero notice. A little more than two weeks ago he went on TV and said he would not do a State wide closure stuff again but he would do that for any hotspots that flared up. He also has limited any public gathering to 100 or less. All of this because four Counties where they had massive riots are seeing spiking numbers. I'm revisiting my criticism of Texas governor Abbott w/r/t closing bars because of the 'rona scam. He is hitting those traitorous bastards right in the mouth. With the schools closed and now the bars, it makes it more difficult for these punks to find hook-ups and co-conspirators. Keep them sexually frustrated, socially isolated and force them to use digital (trackable) means to conduct their business. I mean if We The People are now cool without a functional Constitution, government and community... Posted by: 🐧 at June 27, 2020 11:23 AM (C+evo) 370

Spiking "cases" which is not to be confused with hospitalizations or deaths. Spiking cases just means more tests within a time-window have come up positive. Something completely natural and expected when one ramps up testing by over 40%. Several generations of a criminally negligent K-12 "edujmakashun" cartel does tend to leave society, at all levels, with an innumerate population and government. in Iowa, Trump won with over 97% of the vote and set a turnout record for an incumbent president. In New Hampshire, he received nearly 130,000 votes, more than doubling the totals of former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush in their reelection campaigns. And in Texas, Trump received nearly 1.9 million votes, more than tripling what Obama received in 2012. _Examiner Posted by: Braenyard at June 27, 2020 09:07 AM (XnG/+) But haven't you heard... sorry the whole point and purpose of that department was to create jobs for union members and funnel that Treasury money right back to the DNC in the form of union dues Posted by: DB- just DB. at June 27, 2020 11:33 AM (iTXRQ) 373
