GAINZZZZ Thread

I have no gains, except some shelf- and tv-mount- based gains.

But maybe you do.

What are you doing to get your GAINZZZ? What kind of GAINZZZ are you gainzzzing?

What kind of GAINZZZ are you planning to gainz?

Semi-related: The patron saints of GAINZZZ, the Hodge Twins first predicted the Bubba Wallace thing was a hoax, then gloated when the hoax status was confirmed.

50 100 burpees everyday. Combined with eating too much during the lockdown and doing tons of burpees is giving me huge pumps. Glycogen storage in my muscles must be through the roof. Despite the love handles, this is the biggest I think I have ever looked.

51 Okay, since I'm 29 I can't run like I used to. Too much pain. But, I came across a Japanese style called Slow running or slow jogging. It looks stupid but I can do it with NO pain and I probably get 70% of the benefit of my old runs.

Also, owing to age 29, I'm doing the Eugene Sandow style of weight lifting which is very light weights but I can do it everyday. I also rebound which is a small trampoline which is great for the lymphatic system.

Finally, I'm now a lacto-ovo-pescatarian. I eat eggs, dairy and fish.

55 Gainzzzz?

ACDF surgery 8 weeks ago.
2 weeks with the cone of shame, no driving.
10 lb weight restriction.
Now just starting rehab.

Long story short, my c4 and c5 had collapsed onto each other and my nerves were pinched to the point of sending no signal.
Muscles atrophied, lotsa pain.

Recently had something in the arm most affected, which in the past was so weakened that in order to raise a gallon of milk to the counter top meant swinging my arm and dropping it, and when I tried to lift it, my arm actually responded!

Gainzz

Trying to muscle through irritating arthritic joint pain and back pain and older age in general with an old hobby. Golf.

At least I’m trying. I am in a beer league. Not playing well at all, but I am doing something I used to enjoy and was good at.

I used to have a scratch handicap for 18 holes. My lowest score ever was 64. Once birdied the first six holes at Torrey Pines North. I fell apart after that, but it is something to think fondly of. It was awesome and I will never forget it.

Take care of yourselves, especially now. Better to fight off illnesses and illdems.

Tried to put together a nice mostly lowfat/calorie dinner tonight to ring in the weekend and an extended holiday for us. Did not eat all day, just tasting for spices, etc. Was too busy to eat and the time flew by in the kitchen.

- Lamb Meatballs with Yogurt Sauce (Fresh mint!). Grilling them.
- Grilled Shrimp, marinated all day. They are on their skewers ready and waiting.
- Herbed Spinach Dip (only fatty one)
- Rosemary and Garlic White Bean Dip
Dips served with crudites only. Veggies. No cheese or bread tonight.

But wine.... the wine will flow.

Given the circumstances, I've been eating way more carbs than I should. I used to do keto

I hated going to gym and working out heavy and not feel like I could have the protein to make use of it. So I probably had too much protein.

Either way it was depressing not eating any carbs and not losing any weight. Good for blood sugars though.

Now that I'm going back to work I need to do them all in the morning so I'm experimenting with larger sets. I did a couple sets of 25 back to back and wanted to die. I'm a skinny fat ectomorph, and even in my crazy gym rat days I never looked big. It's a surprise to find this type of training suits my body type better. Learned about this back in the 90s when we all did push, pull, and leg days separately.

Doing full workouts are far more productive because tearing up the bigger muscle groups like quads and hams recruits a much bigger damage control and repair chemical response that benefits every other group you work.

Posted by: JoeF. at June 26, 2020 05:13 PM (CqE5x)

Well, yes, it is a second wave if when the cases are dropping, they turn around and you see another wave on the graph.

If you look into it carefully, the reason why there were more deaths in the second wave of the Spanish Flu looks to be iatrogenic rather than some real function of the bug itself: prescribing too much penicillin. The "they isolated strong versions of the flu" story was always cope.

We got most of our iatrogenic deaths out of the way the first time, being less competent, in the form of ventilator misuse and sending extra crownbug patients to nursing homes.
By the look of Russia and Germany, you can have extreme levels of this thing but not get too many deaths if you're not ... stupid
"Close the borders" seems like a solution to so many problems because it is!

Posted by: Radio Control Submarine Unit #2 at June 26, 2020 05:19 PM (Eg9+v)

281 The *continuing* irrational and unscientific response, even in TX and FL, is pretty discouraging. No learning curve.

Case #s mean little in themselves.
Demos of positives mean everything (narrator: the increases are all in much younger cohorts = less fatal than flu)
Even fatality rates of hopsitalized + ICU dropping bigly
Every new study using more data points to wider prevalence (good) and even earlier advent
"Mitigation" doesn't have material impact.

Jeebus.

The quality of public leaders was already known to be disastrously poor. But this is lowering the bar even more, including for (former?) "hotspots" of sanity like TX and FL.

Sadly, most public officials, even Republicans are c*cked on the race issue. They worship MLK like a saint and are constantly looking for opportunities to Look Anti-Racist. This is true of Trump too, to a very large extent.

I don't see why they don't just keep things open with the masks and contact tracing for people who got infected. If we had done that to begin with we wouldn't be in recession territory.

Masks are not really needed at beaches or parks, though of course I would never be in a large gathering, even outdoors, where people are close to one another, without one.
People think this is mendacity on the part of our government, but it's really just broad scale failure/incompetence. Half of anarcho-tyranny is just the inability of governing authorities to comprehend an effective response, so they keep doing ineffective things that annoy and aggravate common people.

420 Masks are almost universally without value, and contact tracing is by definition pointless at a "prevalence" we probably had months ago, much less now.

Why don't we just pretend that wearing a green plastic bracelet around our left wrist (as useful as a mask) confers immunity (elderly and diabetics and those with pulmonary issues can continue to follow real science and common sense and just limit their exposure), and go about our business.

One of the best independent statistical analysts of all this, who looks at things from a top-line perspective (actually the way public health is *supposed* to work), has declared C19 over. He means "excess deaths" above long-term average baseline just passed *below* average this past week.

Even more interesting is his analysis that "lockdown deaths" (excess deaths attributable to lockdown issues - deferred medical care and testing, stress-related deaths due to lockdown effects, etc) are about 50% of actual "died OF C19" deaths. "Died with" (will take time to do a best reasonable sorting of that messy data category) is about the same as "lockdown" deaths.

So you've got (as of now) 76K C19 deaths, 34K "died with" C19 deaths, and 36K "lockdown" deaths. The public health types can scoff at the lockdown death concept, and then go review their basic research and doctrine, which advise against lockdowns of an already "prevalent" virus *for exactly this reason*.

Masks are pretty much the only thing that works. I don't know why you base your understanding on Obama-era CDC bullshit, but man, people who aren't idiots were saying in FEBRUARY that even surgical masks are effective; perhaps slightly less, but the difference is negligible.
Note that China and Chinese officials are still wearing masks all the time and every country that tackled this, that had any infection group of any appreciable size, used masks.

The key is that if people are super-inconsistent about mask usage when around people who might be infected, sure, they aren't going to work. But even then, SOME mask usage will be better than NO mask usage. The only thing I find idiotic about the whole thing is the insistence of some people on wearing masks in situations where it doesn't matter, like if you're walking in the park.

Anyway the part that you're missing here is that even masks that are basically not a hassle at all to wear properly like basic-ass surgical masks, do fine.

From the perspective of 'f--k everyone else in this stupid incompetent country' I agree 100%, but that agreement doesn't touch basic facts.
Closing borders seems to have been the best solution though

429 I'll tell you how sincere they are about preventing Covid-19: no city in the US has shut down its Bus system.

Posted by: An Observation at June 26, 2020 06:14 PM (TPKib)

430 I wore surgical masks daily for 36 years as an anesthesiologist. Their purpose was to reduce the chance that I would infect an open wound with bacteria from my mouth. This article of faith has been shown to be false. If staff who are working outside of the immediate sterile field do not wear masks, there is no increase in wound infections. And this is in a closed environment where staff will be present for hours. This casts a very large cloud of doubt on the utility of masks for COVID-19.

Another problem arises when we look at the use of masks by the public. Even accepting the uncertain premise that masks are useful, "incorrect use and disposal may actually increase the risk of pathogen transmission, rather than reduce it, especially when masks are used by non-professionals such as the lay public." Given that most "masks" are simply kept handy for use when required, set aside, and then re-used, most mask-wearing by the public is likely to increase virus exposure, not reduce it.

431 I usually throw mask and cheap cotton gloves i the dryer for 40 minutes on hot.

Third, they get set aside for a day then reused.
