First-World Problems...Part Quatorze

celltower33.jpg

Five minutes from the range and I realized that there was only the slightest smidgen of a faint echo of a cellular signal there, and I had to post the Art Thread! Okay...so I pull over, post the art, and hustle to the range to meet my "second cousin." Yeah...thanks to our fascist power-hungry governor they only allow relatives as guests. But 90 minutes later the Morning Rant sat unloved and forlorn in draft as I merrily fired a lot of junky Wolf .223 through my new upper. Yes, that steel at 100 yards had a lovely ring to it.

Wait...no cellular service is a godsend!

Never mind.

14 Saw an interesting video on steel-case vs. brass-case for AR platforms - LuckyGunner website? They have good edumucational stuff there, do their own ballistics evaluations too.

Anyway, forget the conclusion (of course), but something like "no issue for wear/tear/etc if you don't use an exclusive diet of steel case".

When I finally get around to building my first AR, which should be right before the federal budget is balanced, I've got 2 cases of brass factory ammo (and nearly a case of military green tip left at the range, thank you Coast Guard or SEALs), plus dies and components to roll my own. So I may never enjoy the pleasures of cheap Russki steel case.

29 I generally prefer brass, but it's interesting because there are decent trade-offs for both steel and brass. If you've got an overly-enthusiastic commie rifle that vigorously ejects the round, you're less likely to tear a steel case.

Same as with self-defense ammo, put a bunch of rounds through your gun to see which one you should be using.

35 The electricle outlet next to the storage unit doesn't work. I used to plug the big standup fan to blow inside that oven so I could do some work inside it.

So I walked over to the office to ask them to take a look at it. The young gal behind the desk told me they turned it off. I told her I was a big boy and knew how to use an electrical outlet safely and had used that one before several times without incident.

Then she said there was no way to turn it on. I told her that it's wired to a circuit breaker to meet the building code and it would be a simple thing to go turn it on.

Then she said that perhaps when that was under previous ownership, the outlets were on. I then told her I'd been living here for over 30 years and that had never been anything other than a Pub-lick Storage facility.

She offered up a couple more pathetic excuses before I finally said I hoped they didn't want their customers to pass out inside their units before she finally said they had a couple of maintenance guys who did work there and she'd look into it.

I heard everything except, "I'm terribly sorry sir, we'll have that fixed right away."

Sheesh...

84 Went up the mountains this weekend. 10 degrees cooler it seemed like, cloudy and just beautiful.

Ate dinner in a little mountain town, maybe a 1000 people , less than 3% wearing masks. Happy families walking and shopping. Everyone seemed especially courteous and friendly. Appreciation, maybe, of the recognition of the value of the socialization that they have been missing for the last several months.

Really nice to see human smiles again.

Someone here mentioned the other day that HIPPA is a federal law and it's a violation for any police officer to ask you anything about your health.

You don't have to wear a mask and there's no way anyone can make you wear one if you don't want to.

87 DH in the National League? Offense dominated baseball. 4 hour games because the strike zone is a postage stamp? Why not change the season to 162 home-run derbies and be done with it, Manfred (*spit*)?

Posted by: 'Round the Horn at June 28, 2020 02:19 PM (z1QdF)

My man.

I dislike the DH because it is the beginning of the overspecialization that afflicts football (where they have, e.g., the "3rd and short yardage" guy). For the same reason, I dislike the 7th inning setup guy and the closer, too. Let the starter go as long as he can, then yank him when he runs out of gas or becomes ineffective.

So one guy pitches, a different guy bats, what next? Designated runners? A defensive team and an offensive team?

To my mind, that destroys a lot of what makes a game interesting. It's like playing a video game where you have infinite ammo, impenetrable armor, and infinite respawning.

The interesting thing is the playoff between offense and defense, between speed and power, etc. Suppose you had a pitcher who could hit .250. Take him out, PH for him with a guy who hits .240, what? An interesting question.

That puzzles me too. I know that voting laws are up to the states, but I coulda swore they all had residency and ID requirements of their own to make certain that voting was kept on the straight and narrow legal path.

When did this change? I know Motor Voter laws had a lot to do with it thanks to BJ Cliton (remember both Cloward and Piven standing behind him when he signed that?). Granted I haven't kept up with it, I assumed the ship of state was sailing along with no trouble.

My first World problem was that my computer was so old I could not longer play World of Warships on it because it kept locking up in the middle of a game, so I had to buy a new computer.

My second first World problem was when I replaced the computer I can't use my printer because it's so old it is no longer supported by HP and I can't find the drivers anywhere so I had to buy a new printer.

I did the factory reset before I figured out my printer would not work with the new computer so I could not copy the drivers I needed.

They should refrain from complaining, they should laugh at all jokes told by men, they should desire men that have a working knowledge of firearms, automobiles, power tools, horses or bartending. They should be gracious enough to fix a sandwich and/or retrieve a beer from the cooler when a man asks politely for them to do so. They should enjoy and be light enough to play chicken in the swimming pool on a man's shoulders, slap fighting with each other while wearing bikinis, splashing and laughing as they do so. Should a bikini top come off during this play fighting, they should remain committed to finishing the bout until completion while topless. Afterwards, they should rub Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil on each others' breasts poolside.

However the old tower machine that I ran it on has to be thrown out of the storage unit, but I have to set it up first to see what's on the drive before I junk it. I'll see if that game still runs. If it does, I may just have to take a while before I take it away (heh, heh).

That was a fun game. Haven't found a substitute and I'm just not into MMOG's since I only have this crappy cheap laptop. This thing just barely runs my Reaper music DAW as it is.

The CDC et al have continued to not apply their own science, and besides that to look like amateurs compared to actual amateurs who can use data and logic.

Unlikely, but in the event of another epidemic of any importance, there has been no apparent movement up the learning curve by the WH or the agencies, and chances of a repeat are not nil. Though I suspect several states will finally fully rebel and pursue intelligent policies in that event.

At the Nuke plant that I worked at as an armed guard there were bullet resistant doors on all access points to the reactor cores, the spent fuel pool and the control room.

No real such thing as bullet proof is practical but it would take a whole bunch of rounds to punch a hole through those doors.
