The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

A few days ago, I was ruminating on the latest SCOTUS betrayal (the Title VII ruling authored by Gorsuch) when I came upon this article, My Kids' Public School Held A Workshop Teaching The Police Are Racists and I thought that maybe we're fighting the wrong battle.

The Federalist Society, which is yuugely influential in the selection of federal judges by the Republican party, has 200 student chapters at law schools across the United States as well as lawyers' chapters in 90 U.S. cities. But even with all of that, the progressives seem to be scoring one major victory after another, and as I pointed out the last time I talked about this, their victories are permanent while ours are shaky and tenuous, and always seem to be within a hair's breadth of being overturned. So, despite all of the efforts of the Federalist Society to install constitutional judges, their track record is, at best, mixed. All they've been able to do is slow the progressive wrecking machine down, not stop it. Not even close.

So, as I've suggested, I think we may have picked the wrong battle to fight. Not that having a constitutional judiciary isn't important, but the culture comes first, By the time we're trying to find good judges, it's too late. I regret that conservatives haven't put more effort over the years into fighting the progressive influence on education, particularly K-12 education. The prog press commentariat shrieks like banshees about the Federalist Society, so you know they see it as a threat. I haven't heard them (aside from the occasional one-off complaint) voice any concern about any conservative education programs. And it's obvious why. Aside from the occasional Christian college or private school, progressives are pretty much running the table.

For example, AOC and her pals are busy radicalizing grade-schoolers via something called the Sunrise movement, which is supposedly about combatting 'climate change', but ultimately, is about establishing a global marxist world order. Kind of like Black Lives Matter, which, similarly, isn't really about making sure that black lives matter but is actually about establishing a global marxist world order.

Of course, establishing a global marxist world order is the ultimate goal behind virtually every item in the progressive agenda. But you all knew that already

The parent who attended that workshop mentioned in the Federalist article concluded that

the entire point of the exercise was not so much to talk about feelings but to have the K-5 students commit to a certain type of political activity.

Because being a political activist is the height of virtue in the religion of progressive wokeism.

I would like to see more conservative efforts at the primary school level, but we're kind of at a disadvantage here. Because AOC and her marxist BFFs are able to set forth a positive "go thou forth and do X" where 'X' can be 'fight climate change by establishing a global marxist world order' or 'smash the patriarchy by establishing a global marxist world order' or 'abolish racism by establishing a global marxist world order.'

But it's difficult to imagine our side doing anything like that. Our political agenda, our core ideology, which can be summed up as 'leave us the hell alone!' doesn't really lend itself to something the kids can go out and do. Plus, we would rather let our kids be kids rather than turning them into political activists.

So I must admit I don't know quite how this is can be accomplished, how the pernicious influence of progressive politics on education can be countered. The progressives have such a stranglehold on American education that it will be a daunting task. But while Republican presidents appoint Federalist-vetted justices that render disappointing decisions, millions of high school students across the country are reading Howard Zinn's marxist version of American history.

439 Here's a starter on the Sunrise Movement, AOC's radicalized kids movement for marxism:

I also discovered this 20-minute video about the Minneapolis riots but also goes into establishing the place of the Sunrise movement on the global progressive org chart. Spoiler: it's not a spontaneous, grass-roots kids' movement that just sort of happened out of nowhere.

The hearts and souls of the people are upstream from everything else in our nation. If the source of the river is foul and blighted, everything downstream suffers. We need to use all four, in my opinion, at once and not in sequence.

We need to use the soapbox to persuade and to shame.

We need to use the ballot box, vote in good candidates and vote out incumbents.

We need to use the jury box, lawfare and making sure we get judges who respect the rule of law seated.

And we need to use the cartridge box, because some people are just evil and can't be reasoned with.

48 See, the worldview and spirituality of a culture provides the why behind all the choices the people in it make. If your base presuppostions behind life are things like this

God exists and we ought obey His precepts and are answerable to Him
Liberty is better than comfort and safety
Hardship is part of life and often an opportunity
We are owed nothing in this life and must earn what we get
It is up to us individually to make the world around us better, not laws or government
Each person is an individual regardless of ethnic background, sex, or proclivities

Then we will make much different decisions and seek much different goals than the wokester soi type filled with "social justice" trash in their heads.

The left didn't execute some cunning plan to slowly replace everyone in every part of society like some complicated prank. They jsut slowly destroyed every single presupposition that our nation and culture was based on -- including in you and me -- and everyone simply is following their basic nature.

What you do is based on what you believe at a fundamental level. Change that, and you change everything.

56 You either have to retake institutions or reform them through competition. If you want to reform education, look at educational scholarship programs, such as those in FL and AZ. Allow part of the funds paid to public schools by the state and/or locality follow the child to the school of the parents' choice.

Posted by: Scoob at June 26, 2020 11:24 AM (uz9Qm)

57 In the 1980s, conservatives faced a choice: have lots of children, raise them well outside the influence of the left as far as possible, and have them raise lots of children in a similar way. Work hard to make sure you have a stable home with both parents, focused on what is right and true, and beautiful.... or be selfish, self-focused, concerned about comfort and ease, caring about what makes us happy and is easy.

The former would have provided a gigantic shift in culture through demographics and worldview as a huge contrast to the corruption of the left.

The latter... well look around you today.

64 I wore surgical masks daily for 36 years as an anesthesiologist. Their purpose was to reduce the chance that I would infect an open wound with bacteria from my mouth. This article of faith has been shown to be false. If staff who are working outside of the immediate sterile field do not wear masks, there is no increase in wound infections. And this is in a closed environment where staff will be present for hours. This casts a very large cloud of doubt on the utility of masks for COVID-19.

Another problem arises when we look at the use of masks by the public. Even accepting the uncertain premise that masks are useful, "incorrect use and disposal may actually increase the risk of pathogen transmission, rather than reduce it, especially when masks are used by non-professionals such as the lay public." Given that most "masks" are simply kept handy for use when required, set aside, and then re-used, most mask-wearing by the public is likely to increase virus exposure, not reduce it.

It would take generations, but honestly how long ago was 1980 to most of us? Not in actual chronology, but experience and perception? A child born in 1980 could be a grandparent today. That's 2 full voting generations and a third on its way. Everyone here knows how geometric progressions work.

Change our own hearts, raise lots of children with those changed hearts, and see the future arise. Or... you know. More of this *gestures around*

Or, we could have a king.

The thing about a monarchy is that it offers the bulwark (lol!) of stability while society changes underneath it.

The Founding Fathers tried to institute that level of stability by having Senators insulated from the popular vote, making them the 'cooling saucer' that moderates the populist influence of the House. Once that was removed, it's all downhill from there.

142 1. Attend school board meetings or at least read the agendas and minutes.
2. Ask to review the Courses of Study and reading lists. They should be on file in the central admin offices.
3. Challenge any material that's skewed left. Be sure English courses include classic literature, not just Young Adult Fiction. The move away from the "canon" is one of the wedges between generations--younger people have no common culture with their parents' generation and vice versa.
4. Check the credentials of teachers. For instance, my BA is in English, not English Ed. Some teachers may not even have a degree in the field they're teaching; they just passed the Praxis exam to get certified.
5. If your child is in a District that has ended a security agreement with local police, ask what security measures will be instituted instead and ask the costs difference. If you are told there won't be any security, ask how many discipline incidents (fights, thefts, harassment, assaults, etc.) occurred last year and how such will be handled next year without active security.

Be informed. Be aware. Be the voice.

Its possible, its just you have to go outside where you may be comfortable. But this is for women to consider too: they have to change to save the future too. They have to become something different than their culture has shaped them into.

But it requires non-woke men, men who are willing to make sacrifices, give of themselves, and think of their family first, not their comfort, ease, and entertainment as well.

It requires men who will work hard no matter what it costs them, who are less interested in sex and video games than the future and the good of their wife and children. Men who love God first, and are focused on protecting, providing, and building. Not many men around like that too.

The Founding Fathers tried to institute that level of stability by having Senators insulated from the popular vote, making them the 'cooling saucer' that moderates the populist influence of the House. Once that was removed, it's all downhill from there.

Monarchies too are unstable, which is why they eventually went away. Everything is entropic, ie temporal. There are certain advantages in a monarchy that we didn't replicate or realize existed when we were attempting to safeguard against the dangers (a big safeguard is that the monarch/executive spends a lot of their time trying to smash the elite).

164 That flaming locomotive pic looks like it might have been taken at the CN derailment in Gainford, Alberta, a few years ago. The countryside looks right for that. I was passing by that way when it happened. Had to detour around it. There was pillar of black smoke visible for dozens of miles.

A friend lives on an acreage right across the 4-lane highway from the tracks, and the fire, from exploding propane tank cars, was less than a quarter mile east. They all had to evacuate, like instantly. Her place took little damage, some vinyl siding melted by the heat, but it was a near thing.

You cannot change a culture from the top down, at least, not in any positive way. Nazis and Communists both tried. All you can do is create fear, apathy, and failure.

Abbott had said he would let decisions be made county by county, and this morning he just reversed that. Mandatory mask wearing is still county by county, but now he "strongly encourages" it.

I think the economic problems are easier to deal with. Yes, the two-income household is a typical necessity. It needn't be our undoing, though. The social aspects are much harder to deal with. Why should I - a 30-something man with a stable job - get married? I'd like to. But the risks are just stratospheric. No-fault divorce has been a disaster. The family courts are one-sided and while there are indeed many exceptions, the man gets screwed when it happens. Why should I expose myself to unlimited risk of having my life destroyed, my wealth confiscated, and my children taken away from me arbitrarily?

It isn't unwillingness that keeps me off the altar. It's the blank check on my life. A partnership that either party can sever at any time but for which only one party will pay if it happens is an appalling structure.

193 The Federalist Society is either terrible at its job or a front for Koch type libertarians. Because their record at SCOTUS is terrible.

I do agree with your larger point that the Right (Conservative is a LOLgic trap) needs to assault the institutions at every level.

But, the Left's system works as a feedback loop where SCOTUS decisions and their general Jurisprudence of policing the white population reinforce the power of the Media and Education and HR depts to change the culture.

I suppose the loop can be broken anywhere. But the most direct path is SCOTUS. That's where the Left derives its moral force.

The Right needs to abandon "Conservatism" and push for Justices with a Jurisprudence of re-making the country into something more culturally Right-Wing. This means prioritizing (at the very very least allowing) Rightist culture defined as the opposite of Libertarianism: God, stability, hierarchy and also community. It must also allow "economic interests" to be subordinated to the culture.

That's the key. In the 60's, the "conservatives" (libertarians) cut a deal with the Left: we give you cultural degeneracy and you give us depressed wages. That's the Devil's bargain we need SCOTUS Justices to abandon.

The first war we have to fight is against "Conservative Libertarians". Only after defeating them can we attack the Left.

But, defeating the "Conservative Libertarians" requires a deep analysis of the assumptions they've inserted into constitutionally Right Wing minded voter's brains.

And that's uncomfortable. Because the key concepts have been demonized by them. Just think how many of your grandfather's instinctual politics are now forbidden as evil. Think how many of them you assume were evil. They weren't though.

I hold an anger toward the Republican party that I can't muster toward the Democrats, because ostensibly the Republicans were SUPPOSED to be listening to us. We voted for them. We donated to them. We thought we were electing them to, for the most part, do what we wanted them to do.

It's been a bitter 10 years for me, since we gave those clowns solid majorities in Washington and around the country.

And they pissed on us like we were ants to be scattered.

So... my bitterness comes from knowing, as Tucker so eloquently stated a few days ago, the Republicans are all we got. If we don't vote them in with solid majorities again, this republic could very well die.

And if we do, the bastards are as likely as not to get the wrong message, and go on Goping their way through the slp in their pig troughs.

Qin Shi Huang created a unified Chinese culture where none previously existed. The Founders articulated a set of ideals, which while not yet broadly held(given the non-participation in the Revolution itself), became the foundation of our own country.

The Nazis and Communists themselves were successful in radically altering the culture of their countries, and now ours.

While it isn't possible to freely remake people, a culture can be changed simply because most people will follow whoever has power.

205 School Choice needs to be the #1 priority of the Conservative movement. Progressives control schools by creating millions of rules they must follow for funding at the Federal, State, and Local levels.

To turn the tide we need all educational money to be in the form of a "Voucher" that each parent gets to use on their kid for the school they see fit. A Free Market of schools will then allow the Marxist schools to die - because they only care about strengthening teacher's unions and indoctrinating kids, while schools that are Religious and Values based will thrive - because the people who work there do it for more than just the money, they actually believe in the cause.

There are other things that need to happen - like allowing schools to actually kick out kids who don't want to learn and tell parents they better get on track instead of whining that precious Mckayleigh needs special treatment and does no wrong. But this can only be accomplished after the Free Market of K-12 education is in place.

They are working to preserve what they care about: low wages and social atomization.

215 Yup, virtue is not herdity, the sons are not the fathers. You can see that clearly in everywhere from the NR to Fox to Chik Fil A.

The ideal possible system of government is a noble, virtuous all powerful king or "tyrant" to use the old Greek meaning of the term. Rome's version of a "dictator" who could take over for a limited amount of time with complete power to protect and repair the nation.

And while Rome had this system and the emperor chose their successor from someone worthy they discovered, it actually worked pretty well. Its when they attempted to make it hereditary that it started to go all wrong.

And ultimately, it must, eventually. No matter what, the sinful nature of humanity ruins everything eventually. We'll never have the perfect system. Its just a question of what evils you're willing to tolerate or allow to get the best you can out of everyone. Which is the core of "capitalism" as Marx sneered. It weaponizes greed to the best benefit of the largest number of people.

While I agree, it has to be local. Your local school board needs to enable it. To break it up, it has to be local. The only way to make that happen, I fear, is to outlaw the NEA. As government employees, teachers should not be allowed to unionize. The NEA is one of the most powerful institutions in the country and they control the school boards almost entirely.

It has to be local, but that can't happen with the NEA buying their desired results and striking if someone turns down the graft.

221 I think the economic problems are easier to deal with.

Yup. It is not the historical norm. I don't see how there can be a functional family with both a "career woman" mother and a father who works full-time. But if you're careful and save your money so that you can survive on one income for 5 years or so to keep mom at home with the kids in the early years, there is no problem with mom working (this can be inverted, but it is more unusual). This is exactly what my mom did. There were few luxuries before she went back to work when I started school, but they made it. And it's normal. Mom has almost always worked - whether keeping the farm running while Dad was in the fields, to some sort of work in the industrial system.

And very difficult to find someone that you can trust to see it thru since about the early 80's.

That's when I determined that trying to do so was a losing proposition at my age and location. That kind of knowledge and trust of another person can only be gotten by years of acquaintance. To expect that from someone you've only known for less than a year is impossible. For less than say 5 years is still problematic.

I was too old to start over so I gave up that quest because I will not bring children into this world only to burden them and increase their likelihood of failure and a life of misery and confusion.

And I haven't been proven wrong so far in my estimation.

You're right of course. Because by 30, it is far too late.

THAT is the error of the Modern Age. Waiting far far too long to marry.

My generation (X) was told, first of all, AIDS was coming for hetero sex of all kinds (made us fearful) and second that we all needed to go to college/get settled before even considering marriage.

Far, far too many of my peers never married, or married too late for fertility to play along. I had major fertility problems and I married relatively young; we were all misled about the truth of fertility.

I remember going to a greataunt and uncle's 60th anniversary party years back. I have a large extended family; I looked around and there were so many loving couples with 40, 50, 60 year marriages. Lots of children.

Then my generation, many not married, those who were had one or two children.

Then the Millennials. Absolutely no interest in marrying.

Gen X is getting old now and the freewheeling ones are regretful now about having no posterity. Those of us who eked it out are trying to make a family work with a single child and drifting extended family.

This is all part of what is happening to us culturally right now. People are unmoored and lonely. The lockdowns exacerbated that.

I was in love at 17. Both of us thought we had to wait and we waited and went to different colleges and that was that basically. Often I think of my grandparents' generation and I wish I'd been more like them. I wanted more children. My bond to the FIRST man I loved was tighter. For women I think, every relationship makes us less able to bond well - it's like the glue backing on tape.

Anyway. Sorry for the long post.

Posted by: Someguy at June 26, 2020 11:40 AM (Zm+LZ)

Yup, virtue is not herdity, the sons are not the fathers. You can see that clearly in everywhere from the NR to Fox to Chik Fil A.

You need a mechanism for the peaceful transfer of power.

Sadly, I think the free society experiment of America has failed. Only a moral people can enjoy freedom without wrecking it.

Posted by: Mark Andrew Edwards, Never Kneel, Free WA, Buy Ammo at June 26, 2020 11:44 AM (ifmtJ)

Interesting points - I fundamentally agree.

Ultimately, you need to inculcate Judeo-Christian morality into every person, so they have the laws written upon their heart, rather than on a tablet. That's probably the best way to have a government.

In this world, however, we're always going to fall short. We read about that in Deuteronomy, when Moses is trying to warn the people about what happens when they get a king. That ended up happening when they finally picked Saul, and that's the problem with monarchies.

The Founders had another moderating influence; the vote was limited to (white male) landowners. The principle there, of course, was that if you had a tangible financial stake in the outcome of the vote, that would help to moderate any liberalizing influences as well.

We've expanded the vote, of course, and also incentivized states who admit a large number of illegal aliens by giving them increased representation in the House. To counteract that, we also need to find a way to give all of our citizens a way to have more than a moral stake in the outcome, just like during the founding.

Not sure how we do that, however.

279 I'm reading the charts and I understand why he's
doing it, as they are adhering to the guidelines of hospital capacity
being a certain level. If capacity is less than 30% they can't move
forward in reopening, which is why he suspended elective surgeries to
ensure capacity stays at a certain level.

In other words he's micro-focusing on a single or narrow set of stats without considering the broader picture.

Plus he is closing all bars everywhere in the State with zero scientific evidence that the cases are rising because of bars.

He promised not to do that just a few weeks ago. He claimed that he would address "hot spots" as they arose and not close the entire State again.

We are fvcked and will have to cancel our second fund raiser because of this and in our County cases are going down and deaths have stopped out at 7.

He needs to address just the Counties that are having issues which by sheer coincidence are the same ones that had rioting, looting and "peaceful" protests just two weeks ago.

280 There are many structural problems in K-12 education beyond the astroturf organizations exploiting it.

One is who becomes a K-12 teacher in the first place. Most who obtain an "education" degree fall into the "If you can't do, teach category."

These people, who we used to be refer to as "losers" tend to embrace to philosophies that emphasize equality of outcome over opportunity and competition, that provide facile answers to intractable aspects of the human condition, that praise emotion over facts and logic. And, such people who can't be excellent in achievement mollify themselves that at least they're "good."

This is their lived experience, and they pass it on to the young.

But we can certainly do a lot more on an organized level.

282 265 It needn't be our undoing, though. The social aspects are much harder to deal with. Why should I - a 30-something man with a stable job - get married?

You're right of course. Because by 30, it is far too late.

THAT is the error of the Modern Age. Waiting far far too long to marry.

Eh...I was pushed HARD to get married young. Which I did. The outcome was not only just as bad, but aggravated by wasting what should've been the prime years of my life. So it's not a determinative factor.

286 The single breadwinner is largely a myth, combined with a few points of economic prosperity which briefly allowed it to flourish. The reality is that historically women have worked, at least part-time or via piece-work.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at June 26, 2020 11:58 AM (hYcqw)

Throughout history, the nuclear family has NOT been the norm. Most of human history has extended families actively involved in child rearing and household stability.

Fewer women dying in childbirth, and fewer men croaking from war or working themselves to death has resulted in the POSSIBILITY of one income families... which obviously only survived for a short time.

Is it ideal? I don't know. Maybe. But clearly it's not very realistic for most families.

Posted by: BurtTC at June 26, 2020 12:02 PM (hku12)

287 My two cents--

Things changed when the career market was thrown open to women. When women started making big money , they either didn't need a man to marry or "take care of them" or they married a guy with is own high-paying career--and as a couple had MAYBE one spoiled kid, or none at all.

Prior to this a woman would marry "up" to a guy who made good money and then stay home and raise their three children. And because she didn't have a career, another MAN did and he would marry "down" and also have a wife to raise his children.

Ladies, I'm not suggesting we go back to those days--what's done is done, for better or WORSE

But this is why we have too many screwed up kids--and not enough "normal" ones.

288 The answer is not to fight the government school curriculum. Cant be done. As long as the government pays (your money), progressives will be in charge. The answer is to close public schools and go to a model where the family pays (even through vouchers). Then schools that try this progressive crap won't get paid. Nobody would pay for that garbage.

The best way to achieve this voucher is not to change the school tax structure - just directly give every parent exactly what we would have spent educating their child...

They can then use this voucher on any school they want. If they choose to home school, they get to keep it as long as their children maintain passing grades.

We spend about 12-20k per student right now, depending on where you are. A family with two children would have a 24-40k second income. For a great many middle-class and working-class families, that would be superior to their second income.

Home schooling consistently outperforms both public and private schooling. We have a chance to offer this advantage to everyone.

The policies in our schools have been driven by Foundations and oligarchs that bought our politicians. Chomsky thinks that consent is evil when it comes to wars, but probably loves the consent being manufactured by radicals in the schools, and now in most of Woke Corp.

The other side is forcing consent ... those in DC afraid of the Obama/Jarret Mob back down every time. The silent majority in poor neighborhoods know snitches get stitches ... so they give their consent to the mob bosses, and learn to love BigBrother.

And there is the free shit army ... Obama's stash can buy a lot of consent. That day never comes. The right doesn't fight back in the streets, it runs away and hides. It doesn't fight in politics, it compromises and gives up. It doesn't fight in the boardroom or schools, out of fear of losing jobs. The right is perceived as weak because it refuses to fight back.

Is there a price to pay? Absolutely. Its why we don't do anything. Or can't, in some cases, because we're too old, too weak, or too distant. But the left is winning because in the past they decided the price was worth paying, that being arrested for the cause was a mark of heroism. Even longer before that, the founding fathers decided that the price they had to pay so that their children could be free was worth it.

299 A few days ago I watched a video that was linked on Insty's site. It was an "educational" video, in cartoon form, that is shown in elementary schools. It supposedly teaches kids about "systemic racism." It was ludicrously one-sided.

The video features the stories of white boy "Kevin" and black boy "Jamal." Kevin, we're told, lives in a nice home in a good neighborhood and goes to a good public school where all the teachers are well paid. Jamal lives in not-nice home (just a few blocks from Kevin, the video says), attends a crappy public school where the teachers are not well paid (the video does not explain the disparity of the public school teachers' salaries in what is presumably the same school district, in the same state).

The video explains that Jamal's parents can't live in a nice neighborhood like Kevin's, because evil white bankers "red lined" nice black folks like Jamal's parents and grandparents, to prevent them from getting mortgage loans and buying nicer homes in better neighborhoods. (Not a word about how Jamal likely lives in a home with no father, and his mother is likely either unemployed or sporadically employed, and on welfare. Not a word about the fact that the federal government outlawed red-lining decades ago, and has had, for many years, numerous programs to give low or no-interest home loans to minority borrowers).

Jamal, against all the odds, somehow manages to get admitted to the same university as Kevin, but that won't be the end of Jamal's discrimination woes, we're told. You see kids, evil white employers don't want to give job interviews to applicants with "black sounding" names. So even if Kevin and Jamal graduate from the same degree program with the same GPA, Jamal will be disadvantaged in his job search, because of raaaaaaacist employers. (Not a word about how Jamal's college admission may have been due to hundreds of unearned Affirmative Action points added to his admission score because of his skin color. And hmmmm kiddies, could it be that employers tend to avoid hiring certain black applicants not simply because of their skin color, but because they don't want to invest money in training an employee who might not be able to do the job? Do you kids know who Michelle Obama is? Sure you do. Did you know that she graduated from Harvard Law School? You probably know that too. Did you know that a big Chicago law firm hired her as a junior lawyer, and then she flunked the Illinois bar exam and couldn't do the work that was expected of a junior lawyer in that firm? Did you know that the firm let her go after a few years, and told her that she just wasn't the "right fit" for the firm? Do you think that employer felt that the time and money they invested in hiring Michelle was a good investment or a bad investment?).

The video continually depicts blacks as victims, and whites as wrongdoers who are intentionally harming blacks just because they can. The blacks have no agency themselves. The culture that so many blacks live in, where drug dealing is rampant, where thugs and gun violence are idealized, where fathers are absent and multiple generations are dependent on government welfare checks for their basic needs, where doing well in school is disparaged as "acting white," is never mentioned.

Everything bad in black peoples' lives is because of evil white people. Black people are not responsible for any of the life choices they make. Blacks are forced to live as they do because of evil, mean white people.

This is what is being drilled into kids' heads in our schools every day.

This is why so many white college kids are willing to believe that cops just randomly kill black people for fun in this country every day. This is what they're taught in school since kindergarten, this is what the media and Hollywood tell them constantly. They never see any other point of view, they never hear or read any facts that contradict the left's narrative.

We have let the left control the schools, and the media, and Hollywood, for decades now, and what we're seeing now is the result.

"Red Lining" is the hot new lie the left pushes without evidence, logic, or context. If anything, banks have been pushed to issue stupid and suicidal loans to people who clearly cannot afford to pay them by federal agencies. Banks who won't go along with this had their FICA insurance revoked and other penalties applied.

And we got 2008.

Red Lining is an utter lie. Banks won't give loans to people who cannot afford them and are clearly disinterested in paying loans back. That applies to the white poor folks living in a trailer with holes in the floor and rusting cars in the weeds as well as the black poor folks living in a tenement or housing project.

I learned New Math after Olde Mathes, so I understood it, as much as it could be understood, but I also understood it was stupid and dumbed down and folks who didn't have a good grounding in math couldn't possibly understand it. They still taught Latin. Greek was gone.

By the time I was taken from the Public Schools in Smallville, and put in a "prep" school in Oil City, commie creep was already eating away at the roots. Of public and private ed, and the culture. Slow frog boilin'.

By the time I dropped out of Penalty Liberal Arts College, it was the early '70s, and along with so many others I was suffering some serious damage which would take decades to repair; some vestiges still linger.

I credit those deep grade school roots for my eventual escape from the collectivist destroyers cult. AoSHQ immersion therapy has been very sustaining.

322 I keep thinking about George Orwell...He got so much right so long ago.

In particular, I come back to Animal Farm and those puppies. Taken away at the story's start, innocent and impressionable, only to return at the end (as the animals realized they've been enslaved) as vicious, indoctrinated and brainwashed, attack dogs. That is the story of the last two generations - especially Americans younger than 30.

What to do?

The educational system needs a fundamental re-ordering, of course. It's almost impossible to address through the existing system, with it's teachers unions, tenure and hostility to un-woke ideas.

But - COVID suggests an answer at university level (and, just maybe, at the primary and secondary levels too).

The COVID conditions - classes over the internet - have acclimatized parents and teachers to distance learning. More, parents are now seeing (at all levels, from grade school to college) how second-rate their children's teachers and lesson plans are. Lots of parents dropping $70k per year on college now know for certain they're paying for booze and brainwashing only. Finally - a good number of colleges are near-bankruptcy - lots of facilities available for little money.

It's been said that think tanks are universities without students. Now it's time for conservative think thanks to create on-line, degree-conferring schools and bring in the missing student base. Low-cost (and low-tuition), they can run on-line classes for a year or two to prove out the concept and raise endowments. Then, once established, they can purchase bankrupt campuses for a physical presence.

As to primary and secondary schools - I'd suggest a similar approach...perhaps affiliated schools to the think tank universities. Maybe following a few years down the road.

38 here. My only hope is basically finding a grad student that put career & education ahead of relationships. Finding one with political views are compatible with mine?

I may as well wish for a unicorn while I'm at it.

324 I don't wish to be a Casandra but better that you all are prepared for some Hi-Test Judicial Fuckery come next week.

No where in the Appeals court ruling does it say WHEN the case has to be dismissed NOR that other stuff can be brought up or made up or whatever.
So I fully expect Sullivan to be advised to stall and stall with whatever means necessary. Even going back to the appeals court to attempt to get the entire court to hear the case.

This is all to play the clock out so that Flynn remains silenced and/or Trump winds up pardoning him.

For Sullivan to be comporting himself in this manner indicates he has been given the promise of a very large carrot and the view of a very large stick.

He could even withstand some of the worst that can be done to judges and it wouldn't really affect him.

So all this talk of WINNING and Flynn is Free is baloney until we see a signature on the dismissal.

We're just east of Columbus, and there are a lot more Republicans here than in the Detroit area.

If you shoot, have you thought of looking for women at gun clubs? You won't find liberal women there. Also, you might want to think about getting active in the (ugh) local Republican party.

Or go to a MoMe.

326 Trying singles bars, dating sites, and so on is like going hunting in a city park. Why, there's no game here that I want! No kidding.

You want a certain kind of person, you gotta go where that kind of person goes. You don't fish a sump for trout. You don't hunt mule deer in a museum. You don't find the kind of woman you want in places that women you want avoid like the plague.

327 Red Lining is an utter lie. Banks won't give loans to people who cannot afford them and are clearly disinterested in paying loans back. That applies to the white poor folks living in a trailer with holes in the floor and rusting cars in the weeds as well as the black poor folks living in a tenement or housing project.
____________________

Yes, the only color that ever really interested bankers was the color green.

They wanted to make money. They didn't give a damn what color the borrower was, they only cared if he/she could pay the loan back. Many blacks, because of their poor employment records and/or credit histories, were bad risks. It wasn't a matter of skin color. As you note, poor whites were denied mortgage loans too.

But this bullshit about raaaaaacist red-lining has now become an article of faith among the left, and no contrary facts will be countenanced.

329 Orwell wasn't a visionary. He was a chronicler.

The left is transparent for the most part. Just be aware that they twist words so you think they said something they didn't and even watching them is tricky as they know they must present a false view of what they're up to because otherwise people would rebel.

This is why lately it's so scary that they've become outspoken and obvious on what they wish to do and are doing.

It means they believe they no longer have to hide it from the people and it seems they're correct.

330 I regret that conservatives haven't put more effort over the years into fighting the progressive influence on education, particularly K-12 education.
_______

Well, the post-WWII era conservative revival was big on that. Russell Kirk wrote about half his columns on the subject; Buckley's first book was about leftist assumptions in college. Willmore Kendall was big on it too, as was Richard Weaver. It was a major theme. And of course it was the same for their predecessors, both here (Nock) and overseas (Lewis).

That lost steam after 1980, other than a few Roger Kimball types. (To his credit, Bill Bennett admits this, and apologizes.) I believe part of the problem was that Reagan's success led a bunch of non-believers to wrap themselves in his mantle, and pretend they were real conservative. Hell, I remember seeing it happen among squishy Republicans in VA.

It is, BTW, related to the "emotions are real" idea. That is not 100% BS, just, like most heresies, an inversion of a part of the truth. You can find this reflected in the Greeks' emphasis on how much attention needs be paid to instilling the right appetites and emotions in education. People who rant against "philosopher kings" always seem to miss this aspect of The Republic. And if anything Aristotle goes more deeply into it. And of course the OT has a lot which confirms this.

The bottom line is that in fully deliberated decisions one might get by with a purely logical approach, but that just isn't they way we make most decisions in life. They are guided by habits formed, one decision at a time, from childhood on. And if those habits are ill-formed, well, look around to see where that leads.

T S Eliot worried that, in giving up on Aristotle, the West was "dropping the pilot" of our ethical understanding.

Both of you need to find a nice Latina or Philippina, 17 or 18 years old, who will appreciate you sponsoring her to this country. REALLY appreciate it. She may not be much of a conversationalist, but you can do without that if the rest works out.

Now of course you might think some of the slavs look more enticing, but they're the ones who'll be planning how to shiv you from the first moment you meet.

333 our core ideology, which can be summed up as 'leave us the hell alone!'
______

That's part of the problem, right there. We seem also to have dropped any notion about a proper end guiding the good life. That is NOT how the Founders saw it, nor any of their predecessors. The notion of autonomous individualism which has taken hold has more to do with Rousseau than with the Western tradition. It leads, at best, to Andrew Kennedy, at worst to Sartre.

There is a good series of articles at American Mind on precisely this.

335 This might be the year to have the Great White Walkout.

I've thought this should be done at least once.

Show all the complainers and haters just how much Whites are necessary to the running of the infrastructure that we all rely on. Not saying we're the sole providers but we are the majority. And it seems we need to remind some people about this.

Of course just saying this or promoting it would be called White Supremacy.

340 "So, despite all of the efforts of the Federalist Society to install constitutional judges, their track record is, at best, mixed."

All 5 "conservative" judges on the Supreme Court - Thomas, Alito, Roberts, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh, are or were members of the Federalist Society.
"[A]t best, mixed" is perhaps being generous.

Gorsuch and Kavanaugh were explicitly recommended by the Federalist Society, as have all of Trump's judicial selections.
What other surprises might we be in for?

341 Lefties aren't attacking FedSoc because they think it's a threat. They're attacking it because it's pretty much the only target available. There simply aren't any other large conservative organizations on law school campuses that they can attack.

FedSoc itself does good work, but it's not "wartime" conservative by any stretch of the imagination. It's respectable, establishment, can't-we-all-get-along conservative. It still thinks the other side is acting in good faith and playing fair by a neutral set of rules.

Still, I think the other side's bad faith is now becoming so obvious that now at least some members are starting to get woke.
