The story is stupid in so many ways - notice that there something in those pictures which directly tells us that NASCAR itself is implicated in perpetrating this. It's the cord on the #5 stall, next to the missing noose on the #4 stall. Notice how it is longer and bent up at the end? It *Was* tied into a noose just like the others; when that picture was taken, the photographer realized it would look bad to have another "noose" just hanging in the frame, so he untied it and hoped no one notice.
The picture was intentionally staged. And NASCAR knows this. Anyone who can get back there and look at stalls 1, 2, and 3 would see this instantly.
So now to go back to TJM's question, what kind of racist does his act in secret, refuses to accept responsibility, AND can get NASCAR to help him stage the photos in the aftermath of the event?
I actually think that is a very easy question to answer.

That's whats exasperating about Nascar. Not only have they had non white drivers since the 50's( they have had seven black drivers in the series) but they have had a program called Drive for Diversity for over a decade. The program helps minorities get opportunities to race and support for their teams that white teams don't receive. It produced Wallace, and Daniel Suarez. There are numerous female drivers in Nascar's lower tier series that get virtually no attention, but once Danica Patrick decided to move into the top tier of Nascar, one would have thought she was the first female driver ever. Nascar is completely preoccupied now with serving their corporate sponsors and advertisers and the racing is secondary. I don't know how they get out of that hamster wheel they are on, but they did this to themselves. When virtually every track was expanded to include 100,000 seats and owners could field three teams each, and the driver owned team went down the drain, Nascar lost much of it's appeal to anyone not completely enchanted with advertising. And Phelps thinking that the next generation of fans is coming from a younger demographic of consumerism is delusional. They may find a cursory interest from minorities and a younger set, but when those people have to watch a race such as next weeks double header at Pocono which is one of the most boring tracks out there outside of Michigan(both are simply fuel strategy tracks, yawn) the interest will quickly wane.

There is no way that a garage area with each garage unit containing north of a million dollars worth of equipment doesn't have cameras everywhere. Not to mention being sure the teams are making a few wee tweaks post inspection. And then there's the teams spying on each other.

I said this this morning and here it is again. I watched the race yesterday. Talladega is a super speedway that requires bump drafting to move up positions. Bump drafting is where due to speed and air currents, you push the guy in front of you ( yes, the front of your car is up against his rear bumper) and in turn the air moving over his car creates a kind of suction that pulls you along. Talladega will get an entire line of cars( often manufacturers such as Ford or Chevy will have their respective teams work together to perform these manuevers early in the race) all bump drafting together. Talladega normally has three lines of cars doing this, trying to move up in position. You can't keep bump drafting in the turns or you'll turn someone and crash them. You all have to back off of each other's bumpers. Then resume it out of the corners. When that happens it's not simultaneous. Wallace was fourth in the outside line yesterday during the race and the line ended up pushing him forward into first for about half a lap, then the inside line was able to overtake them. Guys switch lines back and forth often, their spotters up in the stands will constantly be making deals with other drivers to allow them to bump draft off of them for whatever advantage they have at the time.
This is why Talladega is notorious for having BIG wrecks, involving a lot of cars and yesterday it happened in the waning moments of the race, necessitating an overtime restart of green white checker flag. ( Three laps). Even the end lap had a big wreck and the third place driver finished the race going backwards over the finish line.
There was no coordinated effort to push Wallace to the front.

As close as I come, I do use KN products but have them on all my cars so don't need another one. Mobil ! I use but got a great deal and bought 8 cases a couple years ago. That will keep my in oil changes for at least 5 years. I have a F250 but bought it used and just don't pay for Ford/Motorcraft parts.

Drivers are not permitted in the garages right now due to Covid. They have to walk directly from their motorhomes to the track where they get in the car while it is being driven to their place in line for the start. He wouldn't have even seen any of the pulls.

Old high school buddy of mine used to race motorcycles at Sears Point. Used to take road trips with him all the time. He had one of those anemic 2 cyl Kawasaki Ninja 500Rs in the early 90s, and the way the amateur classes were set up at the time, he had to race in the 600cc class with all the 4 cyl 600s. The other guys LITERALLY laughed at the pudgy little Mexican on his beginner bike. Until they actually had to race against him.
Jay was simply... fearless. And he'd been riding since he was about 4 years old. So he'd dust the majority of the field on a regular basis. He'd usually come in 2nd, because horsepower matters, but they soon learned not to underestimate him.

As someone who frequently reviews law enforcement bulletins, I can confirm there is a LOT of concern about right wing extremists right now. Some of it seems so over-the-top that I dont know if it's true, or intel guys getting trolled by 4chan.
Just open source references (not even FOUO) talk about militias and extremists trying to instigate "bugaloo", the second inevitable civil war. Supposedly, supporters wear patches with either igloo/cold themes because big-igloo sounds like bugaloo, or Hawaiian themes because big luau sounds like bugaloo.
There are pictures of guys with Hawaiian shirts, in body armor, shooting assault rifles with captions like "boojahideen uniform". It's just crazytown. There have been a few incidents nationwide where people were caught while attempting attacks they said were in support of the "bugaloo" ideology, so it's very real to some extent.

Not particularly a NASCAR fan but I saw the end of the Talledaga race last evening including a bit where some kind of reporter was running after Bubba Wallace for some words of suffering or enlightenment.
Kind of interesting how people involved with garages on a regular basis could make this type of error. It will be interesting to see how/if it plays on tonight's progressive media.

Somebody had a small hydrofoil sailboat maybe 15 years ago. Center cockpit with two outriggers. My dad nearly bought one on sight at the boat show.
I think they were call waverunner but I don't see them on the web anywhere, so either I have the name wrong or they're out of business.
But it looked like a lot of fun.

Nascar can't take a PR hit. They already have suffered (near) fatal injuries at their own hands. Look at the stands. Ok, from last year since there isn't anyone there because of Kung Flu. The racing sucks. Since the keep changing the rules, instituted this "heat" concept and the championship playoff crap -- they are a ruined franchise.
I believe they hope that this noose controversy will help draw in an audience. Listening to a local morning show this morning, they were gushing over the Bubba Wallace parade down pit road. Even admitting they teared up. This is what Nascar wants and they feel they need.

My fun story about Mystic Seaport; was punting about on the river there with our little equivalent of the Sunfish, and the Sabino was out on the river. I told my friend I was going to jibe but he didn't understand what that meant, I guess, and I knocked him off.
Pretty much in front of the Sabino, which is a paddle wheeler that they keep at the museum and do river cruises. Not going to stop or turn quickly.
He was holding the sheet so the sail flipped around to the front of the boat. I had just enough momentum to turn and catch the sheet as it came back around.
I had pretty much one pass to get my friend out from in front of the Sabino; it was close enough that people were watching and pointing from the deck.

I mentioned the other day that about a year or so ago, I watched some driver profile show that happened to be about Bubba Wallace that day. He's a young guy. I was struck by his telling of starting to race early in his career and being heckled with the "N" word, supposedly by fans. At that time, I found it a teeny bit suspicious. I admit, because of Mr. Black, I've been to a few races. Enough to get a feel for the kinds of people that go there, hang out, have fun and the like. I just couldn't imagine, in this day and age, that happening to him. FFwd to his recent strong support for Black Lives Matter, and being totally uncritical of them (just look them up, Bubba...you support that??) and wearing that 'I Can't Breathe' tshirt. I can't help but feel myself getting a different take on one Mr. Bubba Wallace, who is more race-aggrieved than I ever thought. Maybe I'm out of line and flat out wrong, but I'm starting to doubt even his "N" word story from a couple of years ago.

The guy who "reported" it was sent there to cut the "noose" off the cord so that he would have something to report. The person who took the photograph of the stall untied the cord on the neighboring stall so it wouldn't be so blatantly obvious.

Now he has an eye on being the 'reasonable' conservative - a Sean Hannity type but with his Twitter app always at the ready.

I think he was *told* to report this, and that it was all set up as a coordinated publicity stunt by the NASCAR head office. The way the pictures are staged, the way they're trying to dissemble - this is on "op" on their part, just like the CHAZ/CHOP zone in Seattle was an "Op" by Mayor Jenny right from the start.

I think many guys did, but this might be a good thing. I work with a couple of sports guys and now that they don't have sports they're paying a lot more attention to politics. They might want to rethink that whole politicization of sports. They seem to have forgotten how to actually pull of the circuses part of bread and circuses.

That is a bit unfair, he was a business man, but did bring bands like KANSAS to FM stations acoss the country, and other bands.
Don Kirshner's Rock Concert was really good too, live rock musicians performing. So many good bands and jams, all on TV. Innovative.
