Meet The PetMorons

Hose A.jpg

Yeah! He's a very skinny little 6# dude who is about half the size of WD. Working name: Hose A. We'll get him either this afternoon or tomorrow! - Weasel

I would be so afraid of stepping on this little guy. Congrats on the new addition. Keep us posted on his adaptation to the Weasel family.

Zuke.jpg

You have posted pics of Zuke as a pup and at about 2 I believe. Here he is at 4 ˝ running his own made up obstacle course with the same energy from the day I got him. Anyone who owns a boxer knows they don’t do quarantine/lockdown. Thanks for this great thread. - Matt

You're welcome Matt but no need to thank me. It is folks like you and pups like Zuke that make it happen. Great photos, he certainly has grown into one fine dog. Thanks for your contribution today.

This is a picture of Smokey taken by my granddaughter. She and her brother and cousin traveled with us last summer and Smokey was loving it. He loved those kids. Smokey passed away in April. My granddaughter sent this picture to me and my daughter said she cried when she found it on her phone. They loved him too. - Peggy

Sorry to hear about Smokey's passing. He certainly appears to have been quite the couch potato. Thanks for sharing with us.

Hi Pet Thread.

I’ve shared a couple of photos before of my creamsicle cat, Dexter. Alas, we have lost him, and I have been pretty sad about it. He was an indoor/outdoor guy, and he just didn’t come home one day. I never would have kept him cooped up though, he loved being outside when the weather was good. Thanks for all those mornings on the porch with me, Dexter. You were an awesome dude. - Julie

So sorry to hear about Dexter's disappearance. A beautiful cat in a gorgeous setting. May your memories of him always be pleasant. We appreciate you sharing today.

feorgedog.jpg

All,
I love the pet thread on Saturdays. I never miss it. Attached is a couple of pictures of our Mexican rescue dog Gracie. She was found on the side of Highway 1 in Baja California mostly starved and in pretty bad shape. A veterinarian volunteer saw her and brought her to the shelter.

My wife took Gracie home as a foster parent but she decided to keep her. Gracie is a real blast and chases cows and horses. But she likes hunting lizards and other desert critters. Her favorite thing is to chase bird and insect shadows. Gracie now lives a luxurious life with the desert in the front yard and the beach in the backyard.
Thanks again for the Pet Thread.- George

It certainly sounds as if Gracie has hit the perfect trifecta, wonderful humans, desert and beach. What a wonderful story. Thanks.

turtlennamed (4).jpg

One of the pain points of pets is loss. Over the past couple of decades I've lost a couple of dogs and 3 cats.

But this lady has been with me for decades. The thing on the bottom is a plastic decoration, but the shell in the background belongs to her 'husband'. They have been together for more than 30 years (longer than a lot of marriages)

[Randy Newman has suggested that upon reaching heaven, every cat and dog you've know comes out to greet you. That's a heaven I could like]

Jay

So much for any "29" jokes here with a pet marriage of 30 years. They must be doing something right under your supervision. Too bad dogs and cats don't have that life span. A nice contribution, thank you.

This is Yoda, who was born on “May the 4th be with you.” He was rescued along with his litter mates on June 8, 2020 from under a house and now providentially resides with good friends who are smitten with this 5 week old kitten.

I had the pleasure of making Yoda’s acquaintance. He plays hard, including fighting off an imaginary Darth Vader.
He also sleeps hard and in this pic, soundly on my arm.
Thanks a bunch for The Pet Thread. - C for C&C

What an adorable kitten C. And a cute name to boot! Looks like you'll have a snuggle pal for years. Thanks for sharing.

This is indeed a cat. Bitsy is the name, lives in North Dakota. I'm Bitsy's aunt. BTW, Bitsy lives in a household that cheers for the Packers. Brother and SIL arranged their wedding to make sure it didn't interfere with games between the Packers and the Viqueens. -Vendette

Definitely my kind of cat then, a cat who roots for the Packers along with your family. Bitsy appears to be able to blend in anywhere. Thanks for the story.

Benji petthread.jpg

&&&

Nemo - Gentle-dog.JPG

So, here is a picture of Benji, who will become ours early this week. Benji is a Catahoula hound mix (German shepherd and golden lab figure heavily in the genetic mix.) My daughter and I found him wandering in our subdivision three weeks ago, the morning after a horrendous thunderstorm. He was chipped - and we contacted the pet charity who had registered the chip, letting them know that we had the dog ... and the registered owner never replied to their outreach. Zip, nada, nothing. They considered him to have been surrendered, after a week of trying.
https://www.foundanimals.org/about-us/
Michelson Found Animals; their volunteer told us they would ordinarily want him returned to their custody - but it's a darned long drive from San Antonio to Chicago and expensive to organize air travel for a pet ... and when my daughter and I said that we would keep him, their placement volunteer went ahead and expedited that for us. He had an appointment at a local veterinarian on Friday, for which Michelson Found Animals covered most of the expenses.
Benji is three years old, beautifully-mannered (although he is plagued with a flea allergy) and a love of a dog. For me. he is the spit-image of the dog that my family had when we were children: Punchie, a big-old-yellow-hound mix, and who lived to be almost twenty. If he were a bit more yellow in color, he would look exactly like Old Yeller. Everyone remarks on that resemblance.

The second picture is of the primary dog - Nemo, a terrier mix, so called because (like Benji) we found him. - Celia

It sounds as if Benji is giving Nemo a run for his money as primary dog. All kidding aside a wonderful ending to the Benji saga. We are happy you have such great companions.

25 We had some unusual visitors this week. I noticed something big like a huge rat approaching the patio.

Then I saw it was a baby wild turkey. Then I saw the two hens guarding the babies, with iridescent blue necks, a stern visage and beady eyes on watch.

Eventually I counted 14 babies gamboling over the back yard. They were advancing in a line formation, except for Tail end Charlie. He would scamper to catch up after a while. If I was a predator, he would be the first to fall.

They were great fun to watch.

39 Those animals are really cute and, as always, I think if there is any credence to the reincarnation myths I want to be a Moronimal.

No grandkids this week, so Old Dog, New Old Dog, and Old Cat have been sleeping a lot.

Anyway, the League of Extraordinary Elderly Male Pets was having disciplinary issues with their goddess: the Visigoth. They would enjoy the food-sharing and pretend shopping trips; but the past few months I really think they collectively decided that she was growing up and the goddess should learn how to behave properly.

New Old Dog decided that nap time was important, so he curled up on the couch and determinedly closed his eyes; no matter how she kissed and hugged and lured with toys. Old Dog went to the big chair and kept his eyes open, but he was not responsible for playing. Old Cat would not come out of the den until the Visigoth was asleep.

When she or her brother were babies the cat sat on one side of their nappy chair and the dog sat on the other.

40 Long Cat is Tac Gnol.

I had to take my geriatric Splotcy McFatCat to the veterinarian today. He started picking the fur off of his tummy today and when I placed the back of my hand on his tummy to see if he had a fever or hot spot, he made a pain response.

He's maybe 15 at the absolute youngest, possibly as old as 19. We rescued him from living in our crawlspace about five years ago. Poor dude was eating the squirrels and chipmunks I was shooting with my air rifle for grub when I first saw him. We began putting out dry food until he let one of us scritch his ears through a gap in the screen door.

Two weeks later we were able to grab him and bring him inside.

Hoping this isn't his end. But I'll be damned if I let him suffer in pain.

I understand you still love them and want to share and I wouldn't want anyone to stop doing that. I just want more LIVE animal pics. Or if you have to, LIE and not tell us they're dead.

I love all animals dearly. You have NO idea. I fall in love with them with just a look at their pic so I feel the pain to find out their now gone.

45 Oh, I forgot to mention that the Old Boys will have another baby this December. They really like babies. I think because they stay where they are put and it gives them an opportunity to 'yell' at me if the baby is not happy about something.

Those Old Boys really do enjoy their nagging status when it comes to their babies. First time I was ever worried about being bitten was when the eldest grandchild was sick and crying: I swear to this day it was more traumatic for them than it was for the sick baby or me.

I had a dream, or perhaps something between a dream and a day dream, of arriving in heaven to be greeted by my late wife Faye. By this time Paisley, my dog, has crossed the rainbow bridge.
While I'm talking to Faye off in the distance, in the fields of heaven, I see a white storm racing through the fields jumping and barking and turning circles in her excitement. It's Paisley.
Faye tells me that Paisley adopted her when she got to heaven and has been waiting, longing for me to come home every since.

53 Not a pet but a happy animal story: Last week Linda and I were driving home about 11:30 am, westbound on the street that passes in front of our complex, but about a mile away from it. I'm in the right lane, doing about 40. Suddenly I see a moving line, low down by the road surface, about 2 blocks ahead. I slowed, thinking it might be a snake crossing the road.

Nope. It was a momma duck and her ducklings -- the black-bellied whistling ducks I've seen at another park in town. You can tell the species, as the ducklings look like bumblebees, black and yellow. She was trying to lead her brood across the busy street!

I slowed more -- and thankfully the pickup truck behind me did too -- and blipped my horn. Momma Duck started, wheeled, and led the ducklings back the way they had come, out of a residential side street.

I drove on home, happy I'd seen them in time. Personally I hope she tries to find another time of day to lead the brood wherever she was taking them.

Chekov's new diet has not solved his digestive issues completely, but things are much better than they were. Anyway, I saw my uncle's cat the other day ,but I couldn't get a good picture. All blurry

Anyway, this is a really cool cat, semi-feral, but clean. He just kind of roams around the yard in warm weather, killing all rodents like a boss, and keeping my aunt's garden free of mammalian pests.

He comes in for the good life during the winter, and he's friendly and well-mannered, particularly around mealtimes.

Me too. I still miss some of my doggehs, especially ...all of them. I think one already was reunited with his true love. He was an adopted doggie who lost his first owner to a car accident. She was an Asian grad student, and every time he'd see an Asian woman running (he was in super shape), he's get all waggy tailed and let out a tiny yip. Lasted for his whole life.

71 Thanks for the love on Smokey. I had a strange occurence the other day. I dreamed very clearly that Smokey was running in a field and my dad was with him. Dad waved at me and Smokey ran around him. My dad died about 3 years ago and he and Smokey were buddies
My brother told me it was my dad's way of telling me that Smokey had found him and they were together. It made me feel very peaceful and happy.

Lucy has decided my new couch must be shredded.

I need help trying to dissuade her from trashing it. I have the water bottle, but I`m at work 50 hours a week.

Thoughts?

To or three scratching posts or pads (the kind that are closer to horizontal, if that's what she prefers) scattered around. Or you could get a non-rubber doormat.
Sprinkle some catnip on each one periodically.

There is a spray that is supposed to repel the kitty from scratching that you spray on what you don't want scratched. It didn't work for me though and I just designated the chair their designated scratching piece of furniture. They seem to leave everything else alone.

Was the new couch made in Chy-Nah?
Can you try to cover it with a tarp while you're at work?

Yeah, hopeless. Been there, done that. No doubt others will have some kind of better advice.

If I have any advice at all, it is a cover. Also, try to identify some sort of scratching structure that the cat enjoys even more than the furniture.

95 Lucy has decided my new couch must be shredded.
=====

I know this is controversial, but I decided many years ago that if I loved any cat, they would be front declawed if they were housecats and they wouldn't go with the scratch post. I know it makes people crazed, but then they are happy members of the family. Back claws are great defensive weapons and never underestimate the power of teeth. New Old Dog is properly deferential to Old Cat because Old Cat has a powerful left hook slapping down children, uppity dogs, and random large spiders.

96 beautiful thread this week. New weaseldog is cute, Weasel! Does WD1 like him?

nurse, you may have to put a sofa cover over your sofa while you are gone. The cat can tear that up, and not damage the new sofa.

101 I must love my Puppy Dog. She went out Thursday night and had a close encounter of the Third Kind with a Skunk.

She's still a bit noxious, but we got the worst of it beaten down, and I didn't wake up three times with my eyes watering last night, so we're good to go, I guess.

It's nasty, but I've done it before with another dog, so I know we'll survive. (Cough. Gasp for breath, grin, and go on)

Flipping idiot dogs. It ran. We got to chase it!

Outch.
