Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Breitbart: Credibly Accused Racist and White Supremacist Rick Wilson Was In Dire Financial Straits Before He Cashed in as a NeverTrumperMuch more at the link. It's a deep dive into Rick Wilson's history and finances. They were in favor of the Confederacy before they were against it. When they were grifting money from people who didn't want the Confederate flag made illegal, Rick and Mollie Wilson supported the Confederate flag. When the revenues from their old grift-targets dried up, they moved to denouncing the Confederate flag as "treason" and anyone supporting the flag as traitors. That would include them, wouldn't it? More from John Sexton, who gives his post the headline, Things appear to be heading South for Rick Wilson. Glenn Greenwald had fun at Rick's expense yesterday, retweeting all of Rick Wilson's inflammatory tweets about Obama, race, etc., that Rick had posted when he was being paid to be an inflammatory twitter asshole for the right instead of an inflammatory twitter asshole for the left. Clarification: My lawyer informs me that I have to note Rick Wilson's general defense for his bad behavior: He is, he claims, a "Pirate." Hey Rick -- Maybe you shouldn't have tried cancelling Domino's over an eight-year-old thank you to then social media intern Kayleigh McEnany, huh? Play c*ck games, win c*ck prizes, "Pirate." A Note About the Alleged Piratical Status of Rick Wilson Just because you order filthy criminal drifters to board your wife, Rick, does not make you a Pirate King. Kinda feels like Rick got nuked from orbit just as all this Bolton stuff began leaking. Surely, all of his and his wife's tweets and photos were known to some political operative types long before now, right? Timing seems a little too convenien, but then again, it might not stop CNN and MSNBC rolling him out for commentary again.

Seems to me they mostly bet the farm on Trump being an ineffective experiment. They thought he would crash and burn, it would show all the Trump supporting rubes we can't do things any way but their's, and that we should run back to their mis-shapen sallow arms and beg forgiveness for forsaking them. Then once they found out Trump wasn't going to be the Hindenburg x 10 their egos took over and they determined to MAKE Trump a disaster. Then once that failed, they screamed into the void. were there good aspects of the South (confederacy) that DO need to rise again?
Not the slavery, but the anti-corporate giant part? (idk how to describe what I perceive some argue about, in favor of those against oppressive tariffs/taxes on the south, which benefited the industrialist northerners). There do seem to be a few parallels to the current conglomerate/corporate domination of DC, against the "populist" America/Liberty First masses. Trump speaks of how a President Jackson may have avoided such a bloody destructive civil war, and I have a raw feeling that it was industrialists more than slavery that drove the initial decision leading to war ... slavery became the "populist sloganeering" campaign. I'm sketchy on all that ... but BigMoney usually "drives the bus", not dreams of Liberty (except for the founders little gang of revolutionaries ... but they were the rebels, not the Union Jack(off) Kings, overtaxing the serfs) Posted by: illiniwek at June 17, 2020 04:57 PM (Cus5s) 151

Being from the South, I don't have anything with the confederate flag on it myself. I am intelligent enough to realize that flags/words/symbols cannot *actually* cause harm and I do recognize though that for many the flag is about legacy, not an endorsement of racism or slavery. But with that said: to actually have the phrase "The South Will Rise Again" on something you own? That is legit racist. There's no way Rick can wiggle out of that one, imo. Trump speaks of how a President Jackson may have avoided such a bloody destructive civil war, "
Trump's exactly right, Jackson DID stop a civil war when he was President; today's officials who cower and quake in the face of "protests" should take a lesson from him. IIRC, in about 1835 or 1836, South Carolina and some of the other southern states were already starting to talk about Secession, and threatened to hold a vote. I'm not buying the polls that show Biden a zillion points ahead, but I don't think Trump losing is impossible. ***************** I looked closer and the percentage of how much Biden is ahead is matched exactly by how much support Trump lost from Republicans angry with him over Schlong Flu and the Riots. So I believe his support has eroded but it's temporary anger from the electorate. It isn't going to hold and the base will consolidate closer to the election when the reality of a demented pedophile replacing Trump really starts to set in. I'm angry with Trump too because I want him to go heavy handed and butt fuck BLM/Antifa out of existence and end ALL lockdowns, but at the same time I see the merit on letting it play out because we're seeing what the dems are like, good and hard. Most descendants of the Confederate Armies came from dirt poor families who never came within an inch of owning slaves. Fighting FOR slavery was against their self-interest, so they definitely weren't fighting to keep a perpetual working class that took a lot of their work away from them. Reading Bud Robertson's biography of Stonewall Jackson was enlightening because he used some data to show the seachange in opinion towards secession in Virginia. It didn't happen when Lincoln won, or when South Carolina seceded, or when Fort Sumter got fired upon. It was when Lincoln called up 70,000 troops. Suddenly the Southern people felt like the North was invading. I get that. I also get that the vast VAST majority of the Southern aristocracy wrote often about preserving their state as slave owners.
Posted by: TheJamesMadison, fighting terrorist in Nakatomi Tower at June 17, 2020 05:10 PM (LvTSG) Yup, people forget that the South seceded in Dec of 1860, and it was not until April 12 that fighting broke out. The real problem was that the South thought they could win so they didn't need to change. Who knows, maybe they could've.
*** They stumbled on to the way to win. Make the war drag on long enough that an anti-war candidate wins the presidential election or a majority in congress. Which, you'll note, is pretty much the primary way to beat the US in a war. The problem is the South's western generals sucked and while Lee was dominating his opponents in the Army of the Potomac the South was losing control of critical territory around the Mississippi. Give them a Lee in the western theater and maybe McClellan wins in 64.... Posted by: 18-1 at June 17, 2020 05:17 PM (WdocV) 281

Maybe the history buffs on this site can tell me something I've wondered for some time. I know there were proposals that the Federal Gov't purchase the slaves from slave owners for the purpose of freeing them."
One thing that's easy to overlook now - at that time, the Fed'l Government didn't have nearly that much power, and certainly not that much money. There was no Federal Reserve, there was no way to create money like we do now. The Civil War itself was financed by Treas. Secretary Salmon P. Chase making up a financing system on the fly. Don't see any way the Feds could have come up with the money to do a slave purchase scheme. Posted by: Tom Servo at June 17, 2020 05:21 PM (Kpl3J) 311

Sure, I understand that. But at that time, we had made the practice of importing slaves illegal. So if the Gov't bought the slaves, the supply would be almost entirely gone. Additionally, there was a whole lot of un/underemployed people in the South. So if each slave buyout could buy three years labor of a free person, at least that would have given the Southerners a head start on changing their financial structure. 245:
"Most descendants of the Confederate Armies came from dirt poor families who never came within an inch of owning slaves. I get that." Lincoln's greatest political mistake was asking the governors of the Southern states that had not seceded to provide him with troops rather than remain neutral. Some of the residents of the Southern states still in the Union at that time had immediate relatives who had recently settled Texas and even Alabama and Mississippi. The Corwin Amendments proposed to retain slavery to entice the states to remain in the Union failed because people weren't going to fight their immediate family. It was a war to establish a nation, which would have resulted in another generation or more of slavery, and that obviously would have been horrible. So I don't knock on Southerners who honor their war dead at all. And frankly, if anyone had a clue the war would last four years and result in such a horrific death and casualty count, it never would have been fought in the first place. The Union assumed it would be a swift and decisive win. It's the great unspoken truth about American history. Posted by: Trump poisoned my cat at June 17, 2020 05:23 PM (puu6v) 328

Meh, the two are interrelated. Slavery was integrated into every aspect of southern life, and removing it would have been hugely destructive. At the same time, it also meant that the South was drifting further from the rapidly growing and industrializing North, and Southern political and economic power was waning.
I visited a historic plantation recently and that point was brought up. The North kept up with technology of the time while the South was still using the slave based economy (not to put too fine of a blunt on that). It would have bankrupted a lot of families to modernize instead of relying on slaves. Posted by: Blanco at June 17, 2020 05:24 PM (Ay9RF) 332
Slave holding killed the South long before the civil war - it kept alive an agrarian society that eschewed manufacturing and the development of land for uses other than crops. The mills were cotton mills, or whatever else could be brought to market cheaply. No poor delta farmer got anything out of slave holding - he held no slaves and got no benefit from the aristocracy that did. He got stuck with the civil war because he also had zero political power.
I was born and lived most my early life in the south and for the life of me I still have no clue why they hung onto for as long as they did the Democratic party and the idea that the Confederacy was anything but a way for the connected few to get rich off the many who weren't. Grant knew two things. North had more manpower to draw on. They could replace Armies even if lost. North had more manufacturing to draw on, they could replace the equipment of armies as needed. Given those two factors, it came down to having the will to actually fight. Posted by: Romeo13 at June 17, 2020 05:31 PM (NgKpN) 363

309 Speaking of slaves and the ACW, Juneteenth whenever that is is a new holiday in Philadelphia now thanks to Mayor Kenney. Not that slavery was abolished in Pennsylvania in 1780 matters.
Posted by: Skip at June 17, 2020 05:21 PM (6f16T) ... Someone needs to tell the mayor that a lot of Black Texans are not particularly keen on Juneteenth anymore. It's simultaneously the date of freedom for the Texas slaves and a reminder that they were held in slavery longer, perhaps (likely?) deliberately. It would have bankrupted a lot of families to modernize instead of relying on slaves.
If the North had been more concerned about modernizing and helping the south get past the need for slaves and less being patronizing jerks, they could have worked together on the issue and many would have changed over. Posted by: Someguy at June 17, 2020 05:27 PM (Zm+LZ) From my vague history recall, tobacco is a super labor intensive and land intensive crop - it depletes the land each harvest or something so they needed more and more land and tons of workers- so the south's reliance on tobacco and cotton (also very labor intensive) were not sustainable long term. I mean, I'm guessing you really don't want to piss off a Liberian cop. Especially if he's feeling peckish. But in Western Europe? Jay-zus. It's almost sad really. They're like a gay version of the Cub Scouts. I guess their docile, low-t, decadent post-Christian populace is easily controlled, because seeing a German or French cop as an American requires that you stifle your laughter. Trump's mistake, was hiring several neo-cons. Then again many of us, including me, at one trusted them at some point in our lives.

About 18 unarmed black men die due to police activity a year. In a country of 300,000,000. In Chicago, 187 black men were shot by other black men between the TWO police shootings this year. I don't fault people for blowing a fuse from time to time - these are the most stressful times most of us have ever seen, and it's hard to cope. That's a big reason why I said above, it's important to inject some levity from time to time, that's how we get through times like these.
I remember reading a story about Iwo Jima, some marines were in fox holes, under heavy fire. One japanese attacker carrying a satchel charge was shot down right next to a foxhole, and when his satchel bomb went off, it blew his body to bits, as well as stunning the marines in their foxhole just a few feet a away. The torso of the dead jap had all its clothes blown off and landed, ass facing up, in the lap of one of the marines. Coming to, the marine looked down, saw what he thought was his own ass facing him, and shrieked "Oh my god!!! am I hit that bad????" the teller of the tale said that, in spite of being under constant machine gun and grenade fire, everyone in earshot laughed so hard that they were completely useless for the next 5 minutes or so! and that's how we humans survive hard times.
